Was not expecting to be impressed, but I'm shocked by the Fisker Ocean's good looks. I've seen plenty of EV horrors online but the Ocean is very nicely proportioned. Everyone on Fisker's vehicle dynamics team should pay close attention to Kyle's commentary during the test drive, he provides the kind of feedback that technicians like to hear.

Solar roof can be left out and make the order with black glass roof or normal roof. However, Fisker offers the shade to the Solar roof, which makes it something like 10% less efficient. On normal condition without the shade, it generates energy from both sides of the glass, underneath also.

Great review. Can't wait to get my Ocean One.
    1. This car has all season tires, not performance tires on it.
    2. Torque vectoring is not yet implemented, and will be later this year. This makes me hopeful that the driving characteristics will improve, to be similar to Acura SHAWD.
    3. Infotainment is so-so. As long as it gets Carplay eventually, I don't mind.
    4. I can't believe no one mentioned the taco trays.
    5. Warranty is best in class. 6 year, 60,000 mile comprehensive. 10 year, 100,000 mile powertrain, and battery is warranted to 75% degradation, not 70% like Tesla and everyone else.

I was thinking how come I couldn't see you and the back seats area in the rear view mirror until you mention that it was actually in back-up camera mode and that explains the super wide angle of the rear view too. It is amazing. I wish my Model X has this feature. This Fisker Ocean is lovely. I like looking at that wide-angle rear view right on the top and in the middle of windshield where it should be instead of the center screen of my Tesla. In my Tesla, if I need to do other tasks, I often have to manually remove the rear-views from the screen before I can switch and use other functions on the screen. Wish Tesla can copy this amazing feature. I also like the fact that it has even longer range than the long-range Model Y. My wife drives 80 miles between work and home each day. I may get this Ocean SUV for my wife instead of the Model Y. Solar roof, hooks on the back of the front seats and the rotating center screen, oh it is so awesome! My wife's BMW lease will be up by early 2024. Fisker Ocean ... looking amazing. Thank you for the video Kyle. I have watched several of your videos about different EVs and your trip experience. Bravo Fisker.

    • @johnnygeorgopoulos4072

Having a rear bias really doesn't have anything to do with kicking the proverbial azz out, it has to do with driving dynamics and the way vehicles handle, RWD cars typically handle and behave better than FWD or AWD(unless those AWD cars are rear biased, and why you see the likes of MB, BMW and others who have AWD cars out more and more percentage towards the rear with every step you take going though the drive modes). You don't want understeer, you want slight oversteer.

  • @andrewt9204
    @andrewt9204 Год назад +52

For an everyday driver vehicle, front wheel bias is actually perfect for us northern states when the roads get icy. It's not a huge deal, but my M3LR rear bias struggles a tiny bit when it's really slick, especially regen. Would be nice to have a snow mode that would make it more front bias or straight up 50/50, even if it means a slight loss of efficiency.

The idea of letting my dogs ride in back and lowering the windows in the tailgate and the two small, rear windows is something no other SUV offers. Did you determine whether those windows can operate independently? All videos I've seen of California Mode have all seven windows (and sun roof) going down at the same time. When dogs back there, I'd like to be able to crack the back, rear two windows and the tailgate without opening all the way. Being front biased is for the same reason as why most consumer vehicles are front wheel drive, front wheel drive is safer. It's also far more efficient with conventional cars as it doesn't need the full drive system, but for EVs that shouldn't be as necessary. But front wheel drive also is far better for grip on wet pavement and snow as rear wheel drive causes a bit of lateral force that may cause the rear end to swing out. These forces do exist on front wheel drive, but due to the location in the direction of movement, the effect is vastly less impactful on traction.
The main advantage for rear wheel drive is traction on sharp high speed turns. It also is better for drifting, though that is a very niche advantage. The only two major advantages to rear wheel drive is less shifting left or right on hard acceleration as the drive axel is not the same as steering, and it's superior for towing as it's closer to the mass of the trailer. But again, people have been actively buying front wheel drive cars because they're safer to drive in rain and snow. So do you prefer to constantly slam the accelerator, or do you not want to spin out.

Isn’t there a issue or torque steer and understeer with high powered high torque front wheel drive cars. I recall the FIAT COUPE was limited to 220bhp as that was deemed the maximum
      Manageable bhp through front tyres.
I know modern developments like- eLSD, ESC and torque vectoring can help with these things.
My preference would always be rear bias. And if additional winter traction is needed - Winter Tyres.

If prices don't change from what they show now, even with additional options like a color upgrade and the winter package, it's price came in at under $53k, which is less than what I paid for my Model 3 LR last summer. The only thing that would hold me back from changing to to Fisker, would be the lack of service centers anywhere near where I live. A one way trip for me to the Tesla store is 114 mi/183 km, and there's no location in between, that's likely to land a Fisker service center.

It's funny you mention the front-wheel drive bias. Of course, personal anecdote - I live in Canada, and lacking an AWD option, I much prefer front wheel drive to deal with the snow. I have a reservation on the Ioniq5, and of course I had to shell out for top trim for the AWD option to deal with snow here. Otherwise, had it been FWD, I would have gone with a lower trim. But since it's RWD, I am definitely afraid of being stuck.
Just one anecdote amongst any - if anything else, it proves how different vehicles are better for different areas. Excited about all new EVs regardless though.

    • @TechnicalLee

There are two major checkboxes I want in an EV... gobs of instant torque and minimum 300 miles of real world range... after that I don't really care as long as the price is competitive with comparable ICE and hybrid vehicles. The Ocean claims to have those boxes checked, but didn't seem acceleration was impressive and no word on real world range yet. The only thing we know for sure is that all rear glass roll down... which I really love. That said... no one-pedal operation, no frunk AND small rear cargo area, UI sucks, car has to be stationary to re-orient screen, apparently soft brakes. Idk, seems like there's a LOT of stuff missing the mark here. People seem to be saying it they sacrificed frunk for more interior space... but where is this space coming to fruition? The rear cargo area is tiny. I'd like to be excited for this but it seems that they're asking you to pay $50k to check those first two boxes, and giving you almost nothing else of value.
