I like the idea that it is progression. They must be worked consistently in order for them to flow naturally in a game. I coach Special Olympics and sometimes it takes years to develop skills but working with progressions help break down each phase of the skill.
Almost every kid does not have a good crossover. I play teens and adults at parks. I have poor footwork but I'm taller than them usually and can prevent them from doing a layup via startong crossover. Crossovers slow you down some. Only 2 or 3 people have crossed over past me.
