I'm 64 and would love to do this. (Wish I had started younger.) It is NOT a dying art. More are wanting to get into blacksmithing now than any time in my life. People still want hand made items and pay well. I'm just today setting up a brake drum forge and railroad track (makeshift) anvil to make a couple of knives. I admire this man.
Brilliant video of a delightful lady and gentleman. It was beautiful to see an artisan at work and a close friend talking us through his activities.Germany and its people are indeed beautiful.
Blacksmithing is a lot of fun and you can make more money than other trades, because you can make stuff and sell it and even do welding. A blacksmith can make $100,000 a year.
Very nice video, too bad they got the temperatures wrong. The temperatures in the "forge" as it is called in English, can reach temperatures up to 1800C (very bright yellow color) The work temperature for the smith is about 1200 to 800C
Hey Garry! Thank you for your video! One little remark though. I am not sure if you are German or Bavarian. In Bavaria, including in lower Bavaria a local shortcut for "Joseph" is "Sepp". Given my personal experience that I never heard "Zeb" as name, I might guess she called him "Sepp". Still... Thanks for the video!!!
Well, it's not the hot end, and if it is a little warmer than the average guy could handle, it's because he's got really tough hands that have gotten used to picking up hot things. I was that way when I welded, not so much now.

Top old boy. A true master makes his work look easy. The rest of us would be sweating our heads off just watching! Bravo I say!

Great Video! Love watching a Master at work!

Ein interessantes Vergnügen. Danke
Got news for you- as early as 1300 a lot of the work in "old world" shops was done with a water-driven hammer.
Merci
Excellent! 83? He doesn't look anything like it.
Best Wishes, Brendan.
hes still going strong, thanks for watching
at 4:55 he says something like "If you do more at once, you can get two at a time in (the apparatus to bend the hot metal)".

as I understand he said it can reached "achtzehnhundert" that is eighteen hundred and working at "sechzehnhundert" - sixteen hundred
