I have a 2007 Macbook, I replaced the original HDD with a 240 GB SSD and two more gigs of RAM from Other World Computing. My Macbook now boots in about 19 seconds. I highly recommend OWC products.
Thank you so much! I was looking a lot of places for how to do this and could not find it. Any suggestions of where to get the 768GB flash storage from?
Probably a silly question to ask...but do we copy over the contents of the flash drive to another external device and copy it all back? Isn't the operating system on the flash drive? Is there a video out there that explains the pre-installation and post-installation procedures? Thanks for the help.
Hi Jeff, you are correct and I will be uploading a new video within the next few days that shows you how to transfer your files from your old macbook flash drive onto the new flash drive. It will be a 1:1 copy of your system and files. I shall send you a link once I've uploaded the video.
cymode I found myself, rather unfortunately, having to watch your video after spilling a glass of water on my Mid 2013 13" rMBP, frying the entire motherboard in the process. Hopefully I believe the SSD itself is still intact and am trying to remove it. After doing that, however, how can I recover my data from the SSD? Preferably I'd like to be able to somehow copy my whole system to a replacement rMBP I purchased recently - is that possible? Regardless, I would like to somehow be able to browse contents of the SSD. Are there enclosures I can purchase from the internet that allows this?
Hi cymode, i have a macbook pro, Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013. I'm looking for a compatible 1tb ssd internal hard drive. Do you have any idea of which ssd Hard drive will be compatible with my computer? thanks!!
Not from Apple - they don't offer these. You can buy OWC flash online. alternatively have a look on eBay for flash storage that was pulled from Retinas / Airs.
Hi Cymode, Thanks for the video. Please can you tell me if i can do this and swap the 256gb Fash drive from my Mid 2011 Macbook Air 13 with the 128GB one which is in my 2014 Macbook Pro 13 with Retina. I'm not sure if the sizes are the same. Thanks very much.
+PhillTheEpicness i have the same mac as you. i dont think it would hurt your mac if you upgraded the storage. I havent done it on mine but i will soon.
+PhillTheEpicness I've got the same Mac configuration, but basically there is no SSD producer for this particular model of Macbook... There OWC eshop.macsales.com/shop/ssd/owc/macbook-pro. But their SSD are design for Macbook pro Retina late 2013.. So the only way you have is to buy a SSD from another mac mid2014 or higher to change with it.
I just bought a used MacBook Pro mid 2014. I thought I could upgrade the memory from 256gb flash drive. So I can't replace it with this?? eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/Y3ST10HDHYB/
Sure you can :) the process is 100% identical. Search eBay for them as Apple don't sell them. I will also be posting a new video in about 2 weeks time explaining how to upgrade the flash drive in more detail.
Can this work for mid 2014 Mac book pro I'm running out of storage and would like to upgrade to 512? I'm hearing some reviews that you can't upgrade or change the 2014 Mac book pro Retna because everything is soldered to the motherboard is that true.
Good News: it's not true. Only the new 2015 " MacBook" had soldered on flash memory. The 2014 MacBook pro Retina is the same as the one in the video - just make sure you get the correct flash for your Macbook. The 2012 it's not compatible to your 2014 model.
Okay thank I didn't want to take my computer apart to find out i can't do anything to it and run the risk of damaging it, appreciate the help thanks again.
Ye I'm same running out of storage and need a bigger flash storage n been told like 500 & odd British pounds which is totally rip off when u don't have that kind of money in your bank
Can an SSD upgrade be done on the early 2015 MacBook Pro Retina? Cause I'm thinking of buying the 128GB SSD model, an do the an upgrade for more storage.
cymode Whitch is the correct one for mine, Mine is macbook pro 15.4 inch late 2013 with 512gb with nvidia and 16gb ram 2.3ghz and with Irish and intel core i7 and 2gbgddr5
daniel kinney You seem knowledgable with replacing a macbooks HD. I had a question. Since Flash HDs are expensive, can you replace them with a regular hdd? Hope you can help me out. Thanks. I tried googling it but can only find threads on replacing hdd with sdd, not the other way around. Thanks.
daniel kinney Yes. Like If I bought the 13" macbook pro with 128gb SSD, can I install a regular TB hdd? I tried looking for answers but can't find them. Thanks!
tinktwiceman the mb pro retina 2013 like here, uses a different size drive than the non-retina mb pro, which in models like 2012, use a 2.5 inch hdd or ssd. not sure how the 2014 non-retina models are sized, but if theyre just as thin as this late 2013, i would assume they use the thinner longer drive like shown here.
Best place is eBay or Amazon. Make sure the flash is for your specific model. The new Retina with AC wifi has different flash memory compared to the old Retina models.
yes, it works on all MacBook Air and MacBook Pro Retina from 2012 onwards. Retina late 2013 works great. Just make sure you buy the right flash drive as the flash drives are slightly different to the earlier models.
It works exactly the same way, BUT you have to use flash drive that is compatible to your device. Have a look on eBay. There are currently no after-market options available and Apple is not selling upgrades (they'd probably overcharge you anyway).
hey.... i would be really grateful to ya if you could help me out with a issue i am facing with my macbook pro 13" .......... my webcam on the pro suddenly stopped working one day. i dint drop it or anything it just stopped working...... i tried resetting it but nothing happened ....... i went to the istore they wana replace my screen and i am out of warranty and they are charging a lot ...... can you help me ?????
There can be a few reasons for your webcam not working. If they want to replace your screen, then I assume that the cable is damaged by the hinge. Unless you can fix that yourself (difficult) or can find a shop to fix it for you, then replacing the screen is the only option for you (very easy).
Hey! Thanks for the video man! I have a Macbook Pro Retina 13", late 2013 (A1502 model) with 128GB. I want to upgrade to 500GB or more. Is the procedure the same with my computer? Will this one work with my computer - www.komplett.se/transcend-jetdrive-720-480gb-retina-macb/816763#!tab:extra? /Abizer
Aaawesome. Was under the impression it was more difficult with these models but glad to see that's not the case.

When do you use the Retina Display Pentalobe screw driver? You only mention the T5 in the video when referencing the screws that you removed....

Will the screw damage the logic board if you put it slightly(probably much) harder?
What SSD did you use? Did you have to take the SSD out of it's form factor so that it would fit???
Not from Apple - they don't offer these.
You can buy OWC flash online.

Hi, this guide is good for macbook 13'' A1502 model?
Quick question. Will this process work with non-retina MacBook airs? Specifically the 2014 version?
What Flash drive should I buy for a late 2013 Macbook pro? looking for $150-$250
Hi would this work for a mid 2014 macbook pro retina?
Thanks!
Where can I purchase these SSD? I'm trying to find a 1TB for my 13" MacBook Pro w/ Retina Display for Mid-2014 version.

will this work for mid 2014 macbook pro retina? my model is A1502. thanks

Hi, I own a early 2013 macbook pro retina 15 (SATA SSD), am I be able to install a PCIe-based Flash Storage on my mac?
Will you lose all your stuff when you replace it?
You need the Pentalobe screwdriver to take the bottom case off (the part you see all the way until 0:52
i have a 13 inch macbook pro late 2013. do i need to use a usb to copy my data on so when i upgrade to 256 GB i just recover it or something?
Hi, thanks. Your best bet is to look on eBay.
can you send me a link to the ssd that i need to buy im wanting the 512gb ssd
I have a macbook pro retina 2014 13.3 inches. I want to update my 128g flash storage to SSD .. which one is better between 256g and 512g ? help me..
I have a Macbook Pro Retina 13 Mid-2014 with 128GB and seriously need to upgrade to like a 1TB. But I am so frickin scared I will screw my macbook up!
+PhillTheEpicness You can buy a 1tb external drive. Even though its not as fast as the flash drive/ssd it still works
Already got external hard drive but it's still not as efficient as a internal one
+PhillTheEpicness i have the same mac as you. i dont think it would hurt your mac if you upgraded the storage. I havent done it on mine but i will soon.

You have to look for the model of your MacBook Pro and look for the compatible the pins of SSD are not the same compared to this video...
Im sorry I cant find this anywhere, is it not possible to upgrade the SSD in a 2014MBP manually?
Sure you can :) the process is 100% identical.
Search eBay for them as Apple don't sell them.

Sorry, the SSD was $140. More than a regular HDD but worth the price.
