      Muhammad Muizz yup. I edit most of my RUclips videos on a mid 2012 just fine. The others I’ve done with the iPad Air 2. Just bought a 12.9 iPad Pro (2018) and will try to make that my main workhorse.

    I did this conversion recently it was as described very simple and the performance improvement was very noticeable. I used the OWC CD converter (nice blue color) and i put in two 1TB drives and an external 2TB. the laptop now acts as a server

  • @koichiyasutani9732
    @koichiyasutani9732 7 лет назад +1

    Good going. Today we can get two 2TB SSDs to form RAID 0 to get 4TB capacity within the MBP. That's some serious capacity for laptops (though may not be in a few years),
    Have a few RAID 0 2TB system on my hand. Bought many 1TB HDDs so making it to use as a back up to a single 2TB in my Mac Pro 3,1. Yep, considering getting MBP sometime soon.

    Hi Lou
    Quick question:
    Is it possible and is it advisable to upgrade Mac`s HDD to a new 1TB Hybrid drive as a cheaper version and replace an Optical drive using an adapter with a 500GB SSD drive?
    Would you keep both drives the same type or mixing them would not make any harm and would not cause interference of some sort?

    the reason in flash memory deteriorates over time (hence a 480gb drive truly has 500, just 20gb is used to replace the deteriorated parts) not shutting down lets it deteriorate (not really faster, just giving it more time to do so)

Buying a used retina with top configurations costs around 1000US more. Also retina has its draw backs and I sold my retina and sticked with this.

    That only applies with the MacBook Pro Retina Displays. Those are very difficult to upgrade due to the fact everything is soldered down to the motherboard. The Non-Retina display MacBook Pro's have normal HDD so yes these would apply, bear in mind don't attempt to do this if you have no idea what you're doing. You should only attempt this if you have very good knowledge of this and have had previous experience doing something similar.
    Good Luck.

    Possible counterarguments:
    1. 200$ cheaper
    2. Almost 1TB storage in RAID 0 !
    3. Non Glossy Screen !
    4. Why should the warranty be lost ? Reversing the upgrade process is soo easy ! -> warranty not voided :)
    5. Thunderbold SSD -> external! Extremely important since it should be a portable computer :)
    Aside from that, i would have also picked the retina version.. :)

    If someone has two solid reliable drives and a solid backup solution RAID is excellent. I'm running two neutron GTX drives in a striped setup and I'm obtaining ~1050MBps read speeds. High end drives likely won't fail for some time and even if they did I have a solid backup solution.

    SSD's are energy savers, but constantly writing and reading will just damage them as more as a standard HDD.
    So, either going for the speed and possibly losing your files if you don't back up, or just go to a standard HDD.

    Yes, the easiest way is using the preinstalled software called bootcamp. what it lets you do is partition your hard drive(s)/SSD(S) to run both Windows or Max OS X. Then if you want to you can also buy a Third party program called Parallels which will let you install a virtual machine of Windows (Though I wouldn't do that for gaming) or even access the Bootcamp partition you may have made. PM me if you wish to know more.

  • @vajiraism
    @vajiraism 11 лет назад

    Completely agree, except the fact that any sort of upgrade will void your warranty.
    The hard drive and the ram are user upgradable components (the DVD drive, however isn't)
    And the retina macbook pro delivers lesser real life battery performance than the non-retina one.
    Just wanted to point out the upgrading the ram and/or the hdd won't void your warranty.

      Kushal Salvi Ive had those issues. Spilled a glass of juice, had dropped it a couple of times etc... but yes, overall I have tried to take good care of it. I think I might be replacing the battery soon as it only holds charge for an hour or so. But somehow I love this macbook pro.

    No, you can use cd's and dvd's but you need a external optical drive.

    if your laptop can support something like the procedure of the MacBook pro, then go with that (google around to see if it's possible), if not, you may need a hard-drive enclosure so you can use the 1TB drive as an external drive. I have a mid 2010 MacBook and I have the seagate 1tb hybrid drive, so that's something to consider if you want storage and increased speed, not quite SSD speeds, but still reasonably fast.

    Anyone could help me here? I did an upgrade on my MacBook pro (mid 2010 dual core). New ssd crucial mx500 to replace the hard drive and two crucial ddr3l ram sticks 8gb each. The thing is, I'm having issues with the ram. Whenever I plug the two sticks the MacBook won't boot (the screen remains black as when is off), then I try with just one of the new sticks and one of the old ones I had (2gb) and the computer starts normally showing 10 GB RAM (which proof the laptop is not limited to 8gb but can go up to 16gb instead). Why wouldn't the 2 sticks work together?

    Now you should understand me.Am not trying to argue. You are actually right. RAIDing your drivers isn't really the best thing to do. yes it boost your speed but if one disk failed for whatever reason, you can kiss goodbye all your data. Raid drivers are two time more likely to fail. Anti-glare screens are good but glossy ones have deeper blacks and more vibrant color with is better for video,photo editing.Apple sure knows what their screws look like.Upgrading will sure leave marks on them.

    So I've set up an SSD in the optical bay. And after using carbon copy
    cloner, i've copied everything onto my ssd. Now if I want to transfer
    files back and forth between my HD and SSD how would I do that?
    Also, if I use carbon copy cloner, and booted the SSD, is everything backed up from the hD?

    What's the point of even getting the secondary drive bracket if it's an SSD? vibration won't hurt it. just yank the rom and plug er in!

    Hi! i have a late 2012 13'' MBP with Retina display i5, 2.5hz, i know i can't upgrade the RAM because it soldered, but can i upgrade it to the 1tb ssd? i was thinking about samsung 850 evo 1tb. I really need the answer. thanks

  • @vampire5003

    Because the 480GB is a SSD (solid state drive). SSD are more reliable, up to 10 times faster, and can handle drops and physical abuse better than a mechanical (spinning) hard drive. So 2 480GB SSD is like 960GB or 1TB in RAID.

    In 2017 how much would this cost on say a 2011 MacBook Pro 2.8gz 16g ram and 1TB hard drive but with the graphics card and logic board being shit that would need to be replaced. By now can you get a 1tb ssd so you can keep the optical drive???? Please give a reply

  • @mfarrell123456
    @mfarrell123456 4 года назад

    When you use 2 480 GB hard drives in raid configuration, you don't get 1TB. You get 480 GB's. The two drives are mirrored. If one is crashes, the other keeps the computer running.

    My startup disk is full. I can't install apple updates because I don't have enough space on the startup disk. My downloads and MP3 files take up the most of my space....25K songs on my Mac. Someone suggested using the TimeMachine back up on a external HD. I thought about doing the HD & RAM upgrade just as in the video here. Any suggestions????????????

    I think the idea is that with upgrading the old macbook pro that then if you want to upgrade anything else later on in time when technology improves you can.
    With the retina model as its all secured down you cannot change anything out so if you want to improve it later on you dont have much of a choice.

    Cam you do a pc build where you take an average consumer case and max it out with the best stuff you can? This would mean including filling the drive cages, maxing those PCIE slots, and fitting so many fans in there you would feel like there's a tornado next to you. Best ATX board, best ram, server class cpu, more gpus than you will know what to do with.

    Hi. How are you? Could I upgrade the memory ssd just changing the HDD of my macbook pro 17 early 2011? I mean, without touching the optical drive, cause I found a SSD of 1TB and change the ram for those you recomend. 2x8 corsair, and my battery I must to change cause the macbook is saying that, and I bought already. Will work what I said? Without changes in the optical drive?
