10:35 this gave me an idea. Imagine having a submarine style periscope that when you push up on it, it peeps up lifting a patch of grass. So essentially it’s like a secret way to check your lawn. That’d be pretty cool I think

@@WELLINGTON20 It'd be possible but difficult depending on how the lawn drains. If the lawn is uneven and the periscope is on a high point (and topped with a waterproof tarp or something under the grass) it would avoid most water.

On another note, my neighbor is dumping concrete on-to his grass.
How about a periscope on another bore hole with a garden troll on the top to disguise it so they could spy on those above. Indeed putting it into the bunker would be a cracking bit of fun so those below let their inner U Boat commander out. Colin put vintage phones would be a hoot as well especially if they were labeled so 10 Downing St would be the kitchen and of course Buckingham Palace would be to the parents...

It’s usually hard for me to watch long draw out projects on RUclips but Colin made a long laborious project seem like it was coming together quick, fun to do, and kept my attention the whole time! I think the video making skills are just as good as his engineering skills!
With all the quick editing cuts, fast forwarding, and the music, it can appeal to people with ADHD fairly easily.

Was thinking the same thing, imagine the Rightmove photos, "inconspicuous suburban house, you'll never believe what's in the garden". It's like Fred Dibnah's coal mine in the back garden.
I believe the bunker would actually be a detriment for a lot of owners. Just imagine a big empty hole underneath the house, that was constructed by a (genius) plumber. It's a huge liability and I imagine they'd have to find the perfect buyer for it to get their money out of it.
I know I'd love it, as a fan, but most homeowners aren't looking for a super-villain lair underneath their house.
I'm pretty sure he said in a previous video that if they sold the house they would have to sell a bunker with a house... not a house with a bunker 🤣
I think the biggest reason everyone is so obsessed with this series is he's doing some cool project we dreamed of as kids. He can afford it, knows how to do it, and has the means to get it done. He's also taking us for the ride and he's an awesome likeable guy rather than the crappy couples that do fix and flip house demo projects you see elsewhere. Also, was anyone else sad that it was a furze bundle box and not Colin Furze sneakers??

Dreaming of since a kid? I still dream of having a secret room or underground hideout as an adult. Hell, even in base building games I'll usually choose to have a nice hidden underground base versus am above ground one. It's fun to pretend to have a little hobbit hole with a fancy underground network of caves and tunnels.
30 years from now when this house goes on the market: can you imagine the realtor taking potential buyers for a tour.
I can’t wait to come back in a future life, seeing archeologists dig up this find, and wondering what it was used for.

I remember asking some historian and archeologists about Borobudur temple in my country, it's built by very powerful and wealthy family (House of Syailendra) apparently not only for a landmark, religious stuff, architecture, art, etc. but also flexing. Furze needs to create a Kevlar/plated safety tie that actually works as a protective garment.
Tip: You should always use a core drill at a very slow speed with a lot of pressure into what you are drilling, if you do it fast like this you're doing nothing but dulling the drill.
The same concept is true for stainles steel.

@@jeeperzcreeperzz I don't think Colin is in a major city, he's not going to experience a direct blast so penetration isn't an issue hehe. But more shockwave, heatwave ( these two are what kill you outside the explosion radius ), and then if its nuclear he'll be protected from the fallout afterwards as long as he works on his air filtration. The only Anderson shelters weren't even underground, they just dug a small hole put the shelter in and covered it with the dirt they dug up.
As a civil engineer and foundation specialist, I enjoy watching these videos. Isn't it better/more efficient to pump a fine concrete mixture into the hollow space with a small concrete pump? Good luck digging the rest of the tunnels! Best regards from The Netherlands

I find it really inspiring that despite Colin making all these amazing thingss most of us can only dream of not just for fun but as a living and having way more knowledge about and experience with the skills and tools needed for these fantastic projects than do, I still knew that drillbit was gonna be a disaster against rock without massive gear reduction.

Just making the bunker, was a dream project.
It made sense "diging the pool", then considering it afterwards.
Diging the tunnel from underground, makes for more work, but just incase the coolness factor!
Would probably be easier to dig the tunnel from above, then cover it, but that would not make the same challenge.

I mean, with more than a meter of soil above and the machinery down in the tunnel, that insulates a lot of the noise. (Remember that previously, the hydraulic pump, compressor and all were up in the workshop, rather than underground)

Yeah, if you want a tunnel, the easiest way is to treat it like a very long bunker. Dig the whole thing out from the top as a giant ditch with the heavy equipment, lay a foundation, then walls, roof, concrete, backfill, and landscape. Has to be done before overhead construction, however.

@@reconquista1911 I've seen multiple projects where people make lifts for produce - or disabled relatives - and I'd love to see Colin's take on this. He could definitely make a lift for one of the entrances, maybe the house one for easier access, for example. Or add lift as an option for the current entrance.

These videos inspired my own project tunnel. I used the methods here to quietly dig underground, but used incremental cementing so as not to need a cement truck. After 6 months I reach my neighbors basement and drilled a peep hole for observation. After some time waiting for the right moment I broke through, being lucky not to wake them. I then proceeded then to murder them in their sleep.

I’m genuinely concerned that he might be burning himself out. I can see that his old maniacal enthusiasm isn’t completely there anymore and it almost seems like he has to fake it. Hope he is doing alright.
That maniacal laughter is a coping mechanism. When you injure yourself, if you can laugh about it you're going to be just fine. Same goes with stress, anxiety, etc. If you can laugh about it, things aren't THAT bad. Just keep on laughing and push through the struggles.

when youve finished digging and dont need to use the hydraulics any more you should use it to make a lift from the shed down into the tunnel. like a platform you stand on and it lowers down flush with the tunnel floor

I just figured out exactly what the tunnel needs when it's finished. A trap door lift (like a stage lift) to replace the stairs. Then if you ever needed to move stuff through the tunnel, you'd just walk it on top of the trap door, press a button and the trap door would elegantly decline to the tunnel. Or lift stuff up! 😎
... and that! Is a proper 'Furze' idea
I had a friend who dug out the entire area under his house for a basement. He even built a lift. Very industrious guy..

As a mining engineer I am surprised at how much your digging technique, roof support and ventilation resembles an actual underground mine.
