    Colin:
    An adjunct to your magnificent sphere experiment is that of stretch forming sheet metal over a mandrel. IE 0.02" - 0.25" thickness.
    Machine mandrel to exact size. Calculate true length of sheet metal blank, (cylinder, cone or otherwise) and subtract approx. half a thickness. Butt braze, silver solder or tig weld to close then heat to around 500C and place over mandrel. Stretch formed in this way the resulting cylinder or cone is a carbon copy of the mandrel OD. Easily within a couple of thou'. It stretched to shape. Gently tease the butt joint flat with a planishing hammer and a shim of similar radius. Set upright, heat with a big soft flame all round, watch the perfect cylinder slip off.
    Incidently, it was myself that forwarded the cone forming trick to you which was taught to me by an old geezer back in 1954, in England.
    I am now an old geezer and am so pleased to reciprocate.
    Love your enthusiasm and inventions.

Whenever im working on a project and looking for something i misplaced in the shop: don't try looking for it, it will probably be out of sight anyway. Colin, to flatten a ball of dough into a nice pizza shape, use a stainless mixing bowl turned upside down. You'll have to squash the ball of dough a bit flat to start with on your board, lubricate the stainless bowl with semolina or wheat flour and you can virtually pull the partially flattened dough into the desired width and thickness by pulling the dough down using both hands either side of the bowl. Of course, avoid ripping the dough by pulling evenly on the dough's surface. Et voila, fast and easy pizza base!

    • @KT-Awake
      @KT-Awake Год назад +4

      Problem is this removes all the air from said dough. Never roll or squash. Always stretch/push out and if you can learn the fling, do that!

    • @nephos100
      @nephos100 Год назад +3

      @@KT-Awake The dough was partly sour dough and produced the best fluffy texture inside, and a beautiful bubbling on the outside edge that would slightly scorch. Together with rustic Italian style toppings, those pizzas won national comps several times. They were cooked in a conveyor oven with stone tiles attached to the conveyor at 400 deg C for 100 seconds. That high heat for a short cook produced the best results. Don't worry about the air in the dough. All was perfect.
