    I am currently working on everything in my life, all at once. I call it Flat Tire Theory. The tire is not just flat on the bottom, eh? That's what the old timer's always say! And, they are right.
    Also, when you patch the hole, and start putting air in, the air goes throughout the entire tire; not just the bottom (where the grandson thinks it is flat), and not just to the hole you repaired. The air fills the whole tire evenly. Flat tire theory rides the coat tails of university study theory; the idea that you self-educate on any subject at all, since all of reality has something to teach us.
    So, watching your videos is a part of my daily regeme of continuing education. As such, everything I learn here helps to fix every other area of my life (it's all connected), and this channel helps more than most other sources of continuing education I have found!

    I have practiced my willpower without doing any of those techniques (except exercise but that really took alot of willpower to begin) i simply said no to the majority of things that were keeping me back in life, then i started working out eating better and not bother with my ''psychological issues'' at all. I still felt it was imperfect and here i find more techniques to further improve and hone myself so thank you very much for this informative video.

    This reminds me alot about the 12 step program for addiction and alcoholism. There is the trade off betweenSelf Will and God's Will. Self Will would be to have the cigarette, cake, drink. Since the 12 step program is non religious, God's Will is simply "Good Orderly Direction" which is simply doing the right things at the right time and doing the next right thing so the next right thing can happen. Also, the program teaches progress, not perfection and that we can go easy on ourselves, we didnt become addicts or alcoholics over night so we dont recover over night either. Willpower for me is the courage to change, to constantly evolve into a better vertsion of myself than I was yesterday. It means that each day I set my goals and then in the evening I review how my day went and if I achieved all my goals. Following my goals during the day is God's Will (Good Orderly Direction). Deciding on a whim to have a piece of cake which i never planned for in my goals at the begining of the day is "Self Will". Acting on self will either costs me time, money, emotion, spiritual, relationship. Sticking to my goals and God's Will keeps me safe.
    Also, besides meditating, other activities that can help with prefrontal cortex development incude mindful activities such as; drawing, painting, journaling, cleaning a room, washing clothes by hand, gardening,. Mindful activities often distract the mind to keep you in the present. I had difficulty with my mind getting stuck in the past, which filled me with guuyilt and shame or my mind would get stuck in the future and filled me with anxiety, fear or false expectations. Being mindful gently brings me back to the present.
    I've been clean for 9 months off drug addiction, alcoholism, and sex addiction after going to a treatment center for rehabilitation.
    May you all be blessed with a life worth living.

    I completely agree with the positive mental effects of exercise. I started working out with weights a couple months ago, which led me to better emotional stability, and then better eating habits, and now I'm noticing a tendency toward sticking with things I start (something I've struggled with my whole life). Even starting with just a daily walk around the block could grow to great results down the road. Thank you for your motivational and informative videos!

    I have been watching your videos for awhile now. I started playing them in the morning and at night when my husband was at home.
    Exercise is something we have always struggled with, but one night after watching one of your videos he suggested that we start riding our bikes together in the morning and I painted a sign that said "Today is going to be a good day" per one of your other videos.
    Now, ever day we wake up, look at the sign, and say to each other, "Today is going to be a good day". We have been doing that for a few weeks now.
    Monday through Friday we ride our bikes to the park, sit for a bit and catch some sun and just relax, then we ride home. It has been an amazing improvement to our days and really sets the tone for how we would like to remainder of our day to go.
    I just want to say thank you for helping to motivate us and giving us amazing ideas on how to improve our lives.
    Now we go to bed by 11pm and wake up at 7am so we can ride, so that has also improved our sleep. We also drink a shake after we ride because we are hungry and want something both filling and healthy. I know you talked about Keystone habits in one of your other videos and the Keystone habits are a real thing. It's amazing! I am thinking aout creating a video with my experience with Keystone Habits. I will definitely credit yout channel for the information.

    Hi my name is Kacper I'm 28 and i been stuck in a mental rat for most my life and struggling with axiaty and depression for over 10years, i have tried multiple times to seek help from sources such as counseling, Christianity, medication, exercise ect and even though they all helped and thought me alot i all ways find my self spiraling down same path after a monh or two. And I can never figuer out what im doing wrong that every time I get this feeling i can never hold on to it, up to the point where I just except I'm a failure and I can never be happy. I'm at a crucial point of my life, my future wife is fighting with a nurological condition and her mental health at the same time she is 24 weeks pregnant. Without going to much in to it, I found your channel 2 days ago while i was looking for info on how to lucid dream. I have just returned from seeing my partner from the hospital, I remember I couldn't get any weed which made everything so much worst as it was the only thing that was keeping me calm (stress frew/relaxed) however I have noticed positive change in behavior in my partner (Jessica). Seeing her better and watching your channel, I noticed a change in how i felt, I felt determine. And my mind went from zero to a billion and it felt great.
    I enjoyed the animations as they made it easy to understand and vision it, I actually have been awake for 2 days and 3 nights now as my brain refuses to switch off and even i know it's unhealthy i just wanna study study study, I just really badly wanna stop living my life in fear, I'm a good person and I just want to belong somewhere and be good at something and be liked and respected by others and just feel good about my self. I just want to thank you for what you are doing for me and other people, your videos are amazing, I'm gonna go to sleep now my mind been playing tricks on me last few hours but i will be writing you again as I did have a few questions which i can't remember now. I stopped smoking just simply follow the second method, taking deep breaths, and observe them, whenever I breath in I know I am breathing in, whenever I breath out I know I am breathing out. I reduced smoking about 50% for first week, keep practicing that I completely stop smoking after 5-6 weeks.

    I have equated the benefits of exercise with "its supposed to hurt". So even if I go paddleboarding or simply walk in the yard or stretch or bike or hike...if I don't feel heavy breathing or physical aches over it that or the next day I think I didn't do enough benefit and find myself in a trap loop of feeling down because I am not doing enough rather than appreciating that I actually did do something. So, help me end the battle? Is rigorous exercise the key to increasing willpower or is conscious activity without extertion effective?

    • @BetterThanYesterday
      @BetterThanYesterday  5 лет назад +1

      I hope you're not in actual pain from exercising! The goal should be a higher heart rate. You don't have to overexert yourself every day to get the benefits of exercise. And you also need to give your body a rest every once in a while. Conscious activity is enough.

But the material mean nothing if I dont put in the action it calls for... and thats where my Will Power comes into play.🙃 I always feel drained or uninterested when its time to just push out the objectives for the day. I honestly dont know what it is. I have the will power to watch and study the content but not enough push out my objectives for the day. One answer could be my expectations or vision for what I truly want, another could be a weak willpower. Whats the best way to go about this?

      @BetterThanYesterday  5 лет назад

      You should try reading some easier material and build up your English knowledge first. Then after you've built a solid foundation go on and attempt to read some harder books. For recall, I'd say make some notes about the book and it's contents in your own language, as it will help you retain more information. No need to feel guilty, as long as you're improving - no matter how slowly. Good luck!

    I'm attempting to get back on track with my learning Japanese after I graduated with a major in it and forgot it all next year. It's difficult to motivate myself to keep it into gear though while working a full time job. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

      It can be hard if you're tired after your job. Especially if you're not using Japanese on day to day basis. I think carefully defining why you even want to learn that particular language is important. If you find that it doesn't even fit anywhere with your life goals it just might be better to cut it out.

      Better Than Yesterday I'd love for it to become my full time job. That's my end goal. I'm following ur other videos on plan making and sleeping to make sure I put aside a little time each day to study and have the energy to do so. I really enjoy your videos and look forward to more

    Ps.
    As I stated earlier here, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE your channel...the main reason is, b/c you give THE BEST advice on many HIGHLY IMPORTANT topics, A N D ...MY OWN SON would GREATLY BENEFIT from your videos, since he suffer's from EXTREME INSOMNIA A N D as a result, has become a COFFEE ADDICT!!!
    The PROBLEM tho is...you see, I KNOW him, & I KNOW that he'll throw back the following response in my face (if I tell him to watch your sleep vids)...he'll say, "The guy giving the advice in all these vids seems to be ADDICTED TO COFFEE...YOU WANT ME TO LISTEN TO H I M ?!!"

    Willpower only exists in the minds of onlookers with a negative sum of values but a high perception of value for the goal achieved by some else. Willpower will never help you achieve anything on purpose. All intentional actions are the result of belief of values assigned to required costs vs potential reward. You literally will purposefully do nothing else. You cannot do something intentionally if you do not want to do it.

    Actually the willpower is like muscle. If you are using it for long time the willpower will be tired and become weaker but if you are regurlarly using willpower it will get better.
