It really just depends on what kind of guard this team needs. Do we need a guard that can come off the bench who’ll give us shotmaking & playmaking off the 2nd unit, if so then Dinwiddie should be the target.
Or do we need a true POA, pesky guard defender that we can put on a some of the good PGs in the league to make it difficult for them, if so then DSJ should be the target.
If you ask me I’m going with DSJ. We are already going to have Hardy (Who I’m high on) that’ll be the main scorer off the bench. Also one of Luka, Kyrie or Klay will always play with the 2nd unit. I don’t worry about scoring on this team.
This team doesn’t have a true defensive minded PG, and it’s clear that is DSJ’s main calling card. Also he would give us some much needed athleticism that we’ve lost with DJJ & Green gone.

@@Jorlaxe I would like to go see that comment. I can’t find it when I search it up. I believe Jones was a very good defensive wing, better than what the Mavs have had in a while. But let’s not act as if he was Kawhi Leanard out there. The Defense was already good before he started playing more minutes and starting in the playoffs. I can’t say he was our best defender when the defense got better once PJ and Gafford started getting chemistry with the rest of the team. Jones will be missed, but I have high hopes for Grimes, who can easily take minutes away from Hardy and even Klay if he’s struggling like last season. Grimes can Defend as good as Jones. Jones was not known as some defensive stopper before coming here, you never know, maybe Klay becomes himself again on defense as he was when he was younger under Kidds defensive scheme. Or maybe Naji is a better Jones defensively next season. That’s to be determined obviously, but we haven’t seen these players play under Kidd, so we’ll see. DSJ won’t play much here because he can’t shoot, or is big enough to defend 6’6” wing players. I doubt he would take minutes from Hardy or Exum. Kidd likes tall players on the floor. I honestly only think he’s ok with Kyrie because it’s Kyrie and he’s gifted offensively.

As much as i love dsj but with his 3pt shoot he is almost unplayable beside kyrie or luka. He is no long enough to be switchable aswell. He just doesn't fit at all into our system. Widdie though would actually be a great addition. He showed he can play the perfekt 3. Guard role from the bench and is big enough on Defens. He would be the only player from the bench which can create his own shot and still pass out of this situations. That's so valuable. ... winwiddie is a nobrainer for the last spot to me, even with what he said last season.

The fit was perfekt because he is big enough to gaurd 2s and some 3s. so Brunson could Guard the smallest player on the court. He was a great fit back then and still would be a great fit now. Tall for his position, good enough of a shooter when open, can create his own shot, can pass out of his own creation, awesome finisher around the rim, was clutch back then. I was leaning on Dinwiddie but overall fit, chemistry, no difference on playmake on both side really makes DSJ a better option.

    6. Gafford
    5. Lively
    4. PJ
    3. Klay
    2. Kyrie
    1. Luka
Hardy and Exum are interchangeable based on whether you need Exum ball handling and defense or Hardy scoring and shot creation.
Everyone commenting will say Maxi is to high and although I would agree, this is what I think Kidd will do not what fans think he should do. We have to face facts that Kidd loves Maxi and unless Lively becomes an really good perimeter defender for a big and an occasional 3 point threat Maxi will play. He was 6th on MPG for both regular season and playoffs last season of the guys left on the team. The 3 guys we added will be above him but no one else.

I would say Spencer, need another guard that will be effective offensively and create so the usage rate of Luka & Kyrie isn't so high in the regular season. Spencer can easily get the Mavs 8-10 PPG with some assists. I like Hardy but he's not a PG, he's a scorer first, let him score. DSJ plays solid defense, but after that he can't shoot the 3 or space the floor to inconsistent offensively, & defensively has no kind of wingspan, with DJJ he could at least give you about 33-35% from 3. Spencer was solid on the Mavs. Fans need to remember he played perfectly behind 2 guards in Brunson & Luka. Im looking at guards out their and not much, so to me Spencer is the most comfortable and good option to me, to put the Mavs over. Then if they have another spot go after the other Morris, and roster is complete, good balance.

But Mavs lost a ton of above the rim athleticism from Green/Jones. I mean, prob the 2 best high-flying dunkers at SG in the NBA- Huge! DSJr is that, then some. Need some of that back.
Note, if Kyrie goes down, we'll need that extra PG and since Exum plays Point, id like the defensive counterpart option in the backcourt.

The question is “what players will play in all four quarters and have significant minutes in the fourth”?
I only see eight guys now.
    Lively/Gafford
    PJ
    Klay
    Luka
    Kyrie
And Marshal and Grimes……not that Grimes will be great but that he’s proven with his playoff experience to be more ready than Exum, Hardy AND MAXI.
But it’s a long season and who knows if any of these guys will stay healthy. All have shown a propensity to get nicked up. As always it’s who wants it the most
And who we inevitably trade for at the deadline. No one can predict the future.

1st team: Luka, Ky, Klay, PJ, Lively/Gaff
2nd team: Hardy, Grimes, Naji, Maxi, Lively/Gaff
    Stash: Exum, Omax
Team is set. I don't know why Dallas is enamored at trying to get guards every freaking free agency. Dallas hasn't needed to get a guard, much less a high profile one, ever since 2018. Since Luka was drafted, the team has always needed athletic defenders and/or shooters rather than guards. If for some quirky reason they REALLY need to get a guard this season, might as well trade Hardy coz every guard signing has been holding and will continue to hold him back. Maybe trade him and then get Tyus Jones or something. Otherwise, if the Mavs use the roster spot for vet presence, how about Taj, Lowry, Patty Mills, PatBev, Thad Young, or even Tristan Thompson. Or they could pick up KJ Martin as some sort of a project. Given Maxi's injury history, he can probably even compete for minutes as a backup PF.

Who would be more motivated? Probably DSJ. Better player now is probably Dinwiddie provided his health matches up with 2022

  • @highfalutinman
    @highfalutinman Месяц назад

DSJ did get treated like dogwater by Rick Carlisle, he was young, talented and developing, don't blame him one bit for asking to get traded. Carlisle tried to pit DSJ against Luka, which was completely unfair because we all knew what Luka was even as a rookie. Pretty sure he's grown and matured since then. He deserves a second chance.
    Dinwiddie can stay in LA.

DSJ > Dinwiddie IMO. More of a dawg, I think he would be motivated to produce at a high level within his role the 2nd time around. His athleticism is needed not to mention the fanbase would welcome him w/open arms. Aside from his contributions on the floor, it would be a good PR move with that roster spot.

Kyrie is not a slouch defensively. Mavs got to take Spencer to spell Luka and Kyrie.
Luka was fine defensively prior to injuries. Pick the player that makes the regular season easier for the stars.
You sign Dinwiddie and he’s the first guard off the bench for Kyrie.
DSJ will not save this team come playoff time.
I think they’ll play Omax because they need Maxi replacement. Maybe not as a big man but PJ backup.

For me it’s Dinwiddie, Mavs are in Win now mode, I don’t care for the young guys like Prosper or Hardy. Luka and Kyrie need experience next to them. DSJ can’t shoot for shit and is short if he had to play with Luka and Kyrie in a guard lineup in a spot minutes. Dinwiddie shot the ball well in his last 15 games for the Lakers and is a big guard. Which Kidd likes. If the Mavs don’t get Dinwiddie, just resigne Bullock for another 3 and D wing. And if they do want another guard, then trade for Brogdon, who played well under Kidd and off the bench for the Celtics or give John Wall a chance.
