Great Video! I just got the 18mm and was wondering do I need to put it on the Wide Lens of the 11 or would the regular lens of my iPhone8 be good enough?
Sorry for that massive oversight we should've put it in the video! Everything was shot with the same iPhone 11 pro, 1080p, 30fps. Thanks for pointing that out. We are glad the video helped you! Thank you for watching and commenting!
@@KRTLyfe you are most welcome!!! And thank you for replying! ..... I was thinking of getting an iPhone 11 pro for my moment lenses, so I think that if I shoot in 4k with the lenses there should be less noise in the footage. ...... Maybe that could be a future comparison you could do ;)))))) thanks again for your reply. Keep creating!
Great video thanks :) I already have the anamorphic and im gonna buy a couple more. Im gonna get the tele. Do you think that the Wide 18mm Lens is worth it on iPhone 11 Pro?
MrGadgetMe my wife and I discussed it and we think the answer is.... No we have noticed that the Tele doesn’t look as sharp to us. We have also noticed that the image stabilization does not work as well with fish eye lens. The fish eye is really good at reducing noise in wide angle shots when light is low. I would say the Moment lenses are great when used in the right application. However we agree that they aren’t necessarily needed if you have an I phone pro.
Glad we could help. Acquiring new gear, learn how to use it and figure out what works for you is a huge task. We definitely know the pain lol. Thanks for watching!
I started with moment and eventually found myself using adapters for larger filters and lenses. It’s a good starting point, but if you’re really interested in photography or film I found that your best choice is to buy used and use a camera. If you just want to use your iPhone, don’t have to go too crazy buying a bunch of lenses and filters for your phone as it’s already pretty amazing for a phone.
So quick question: When starting to research these phone lenses, I was hoping I would be able to extend the already existing optical zoom in the iphone by putting the 58mm on. Did I get it right that this is not possible and I am instead just replacing the inbuilt zoom lense by the 58mm? So I have maybe better quality but still only a 2-times optical zoom?
Absolutely love real world videos of these lenses, I just got the wide 18mm and was impressed. I am teetering on whether to get Macro or Anamorphic, do you guys have any proper comparison photo's or anything I could check out?
Thanks for this great video. I wanted to ask you if there is a point to using the 58 instead of the native tele on the 11 pro besides a mere stop of light which IMO won’t have a significant impact on the Bokeh?
Fendrix 69 thank you for watching and commenting. I feel like (maybe my imagination) the 58mm in video and photo mode produces some really good images slightly better than the native tele. I also tried tele on tele but haven’t had time to really play with it. I found that it makes the IPhone 11 hunt for focus on objects close to the lens and things far away it gets you in a bit closer. I will experiment with it more tho. Maybe even make a Vlog about tele on tele.
@@KRTLyfe Thanks for your reply, no I agree, I've also noticed some kind of special quality to the way it renders images. Wish I could do a side by side comparison. looking forward to the vlog on this subject. All The Best.
DOF yes if you get close sometimes it is really hard to get good DOF with the iPhone unless you use the telephoto lens you can kinda get it but its tricky. The iPhone isn't really there yet to get the look of a full frame with a 85mm lens but it is getting better.
Romain Provost completely different lenses so really hard to compare them tho. The Anamorphic is very sharp but you have to use the moment app or desqueeze in post. It is really cool tho. The 18mm is good but a little soft around the edges. It is nice and wide with out being super distorted. I really enjoy using the super fish 14mm for some reason.
Antonio Noé Andrada no the old lens will have a halo around the edge of the frame in photo mode. The 14mm will not show this in picture mode. In video mode the old lens and new lens work fine. I believe the old one is the super fish 170 and the new one is called the fish eye 14mm.
Great video. I have an IPhone 11 (the one with the 2 cameras). If you would suggest only one Lens to buy (low on budget :)))) what would it be¿ thank you ;)
It depends on what you shoot honestly. I would say get the tele lens maybe. since the 11 has wide and ultra wide built in. The tele is good for portraits B Roll and things like that. The other things you might want to film can be accomplished with the built in cameras. Just be careful with that ultra wide in dark places. The footage can get real grainy.
Personally i would choose the 18. I have 5 of of their lenses and I use the 18 and 58 (on the tele/bottom lens of the 11Pro which gives you 2x tele). If you shoot a lot of landscape or interiors choose the 18. If you shoot portraits or details choose the 58. I like the14 FE but use it less. I also like the anamorphic even for stills but would not be first choice. I have the macro and occasionally use it but it’s really a niche lens and I generally shoot macros with my regular camera and macro lens.
Thanks for this video! It was particularly helpful seeing all the different lenses being compared at the same time. I just got the 15mm Superfish yesterday and trying to figure out what my 2nd lens is going to be. I'm leaning towards the wide 18mm.
Thank you for the video and moment lens test...I really enjoyed it. Could I ask about the sound recording setup you had on the iPhone? I noticed that despite some wind near the barn the audio quality was quite good.
I just got my anamorphic lens and I noticed a blur on the sides. I took the lens off and adjusted the bayonet and now the blur is gone. I’m not sure wearer or not the iPhone 11 max has a vertical or horizontal cam system but the instructions advise changing the lens depending on that so.... help someone please!!
So, I'm looking at the video and it shows iPhone 11 with the 1x lens so you are shooting through the normal lens? What happens if you should the Moment 18mm through the iPhone wide angle lens?
There is not a mounting point over the super wide if that what you are referring to. I am pretty sure if you could mount a lens over it your would probably see a ring around the image from the inside of the lens being in the frame.
Love the bokeh on the tele but I’d like to know how far you’d have to be from the subject to get a talking head type shot. I’m not sure how close the camera was to your wife in the car but it seemed too close up for me and I wonder if that was as wide as it could get from the dash cam in the corner. Or were you holding it closer to her?
You use the FE or wide 18 on the top lens of the 11Pro because it’s the best native lens of the phone. It has an aperture of 1.8 which means it allows the most light into the lens. The aperture of the 2x lens is 2.2 I believe and the xW even less light, thus the Any lens used on the top lens of the 11Pro will have less noise, allow more light-and be better than the native ultra wide.
Hey guys, great video! Question, did you ever notice any distortion later on from the Wide 18 mm, specifically around the corners? Like the vignette photo effect that you guys talked about in this video. I have an iPhone 11 Pro, just tested out the Wide 18mm, and got that vignette effect. It went away though when I zoomed in slightly, but obviously thats not ideal. Thanks!
PJ D. Yes we definitely noticed that the 18 is soft around the edges. I guess you could film in 4K then crop a little to get rid of it. We only film in 1080 and crop very rarely so we just live with it.
Sorry just came across this video. It sounds like you don’t recommend the moment lens if you have the pro max. Correct? I have the pro max and have been trying to find real reviews (not from moment or paid moment people) to see if they are worth the money
grumpylicous I would say they are good for certain situations and give you a bit more flexibility for certain shots. For instance if you need something super wide but you don’t want all the noise that comes with the built in super wide. I think you can completely work around them. I also think some of the lenses affect the built in stabilization and clarity as well. The moment app is okay but we have noticed that the audio can drift if you are recording a long video. To sum it up I like the lenses a lot but I don’t love them or use them for many of our vlogs. Maybe 10-15% of our vlogs since the IPhone 11 Pro came out we use moment lenses.
Awesome. Thanks for the reply. I’ve been watching the videos and they seem fine to me. Maybe I’ll hold off on ordering them. I mean $100 each additional lens is a lot for not much improvement

Does the Moment app have a way of reducing the fisheye distortion when shooting video? The iPhone super wide angle is rectilinear.
I don't think it does, it might be possible to do it in post.
In the Moment app you choose the 14FE and there is then a slider for distortion correction.
Diane Fields I’m running 3.13.1 I looked for that didn’t see it. I only see the option for anamorphic.
KRT LYFE Ah, sorry, missed in video. No, can’t correct distortion in video, just stills.
