Awesome!! I'm getting really pump with these lenses. But, which camera did you use?? The iPhone's wide camera or the telephoto camera? How much the footage changes using the lens on each camera?

@@Randuski okay because I have heard that the moment M Series doesn't work good with the iphone 15 series..there's alot of vignetting. The moment T-series are the ones you would have to buy if you want great results!!
@@steveclarke94 yea everytime they drop a new phone, you end up needing a new lens haha apple keeps making the sensors and lenses bigger, meaning the moment lens needs to get bigger haha
So around June/July last year, I was looking into buying the full range of Moment lenses but I'm in the UK and the prices with tax + shipping pushed it way out of what I felt comfortable spending on some add on lenses. When looking at reviews of the Moment 60mm, a lot of the reviews were actually pretty down on it, specifically one review I found that had one of those charts for focus and detail where the 60mm was only sharp in the very centre and detail dropped very quickly and vignetting, as seen in this video, is also an issue. Lastly, the 60mm also exhibits chromatic aberration but all of these issues seemed to have been fixed with the 58mm update. However, in that same video I previously mentioned, a commenter brought up that a company called Sirui also made add on lenses and they used the exact same mounting system that Moment has and that the quality was much better, at least for the tele and that it was cheaper. I haven't had many opportunities to use it but it is a great little lens so something to consider for those outside of the US.
Thanks for sharing. We’ve heard Sirui are pretty good. Haven’t tried them though. Haven’t used a focus chart yet, but this new 58mm seems to have fixed the previous issues. Solid lens.
Awesome video, thanks Blake! I got to say I hope that the gimbal can hold the weight. I have counter weight but even then it’s hard on the device. But the 58mm looks great 👍
In my opinion the Moment lenses are just too heavy with the Movi gimbal, even with the counter weights. It’s useable only if you add warp stabilizer in post.
Im planning on getting the iPhone 13 Pro Max and using the 58mm telephoto to film in 4K60fps. Will this lens work well for zooming in at maximum optical 6x and 18x digital????
It’s a 2x optical zoom when used on the wide camera or 4x on the tele. You can digitally zoom in of course within an app, but your results will vary. I rarely if ever do digital zooms, but sometimes they’re necessary.
I have a question I have not seen answered anywhere. Does the lens merely zoom/crop in or does it change the whole dynamic to make it work exactly like a 58mm, meaning it could used for portrait with all face flattering of a real 58mm style lens? Thanks.
My 60mm lens was horrifically soft. When I complained to moment I got comments from other users that I wasn’t using it right. I’m so happy to have sold it ages ago.
That would be for a different video. Plus, the iPhone Tele is an f/2.8 and so we much prefer to use the f/1.8 wide when we can. Much better in low light. Although we will sometimes add the Moment Tele on the iPhone Tele for a very telephoto look.
Question: I just picked up the moment anamorphic lens and was wondering if desqueezing the footage in filmic pro using the moondog hardware preset is better or worse for quality than filming it squeezed and then desqueezing it in Adobe premiere after the fact? One thing that concerns me is that the moondog hardware preset says “2.40:1” and the moment lens is “1.33” or that somehow it would be messing with the resolution in a destructive way if recording it desqueezed?
It works fine either way, but if you leave it desqueezed and only preview it squeezed in FiLMiC Pro you get more resolution. Actually 5K, which is pretty cool.
Does the case have mounts for the phone’s wide and tele lens? I read it somewhere of you are using it with the tele lens it goes 4x zoom, is that true?

Thank you for your review! Definitely helpful info, and useful links to go gear I need in the description! Really trying to up my video game. Working exclusively from Google Pixel, however. Had the moment wide-angle, but lost it when I was out filming and nm had a fall.
What's your FPS setting on FilMic Pro? Whenever I use 4k or 1080 24 FPS it looks like it stutters. I"m wondering if I"m missing some setting or not? I'm using an iPhone XS btw
We shoot 24fps most of the time. Two things may be going on for you… One could be a really fast shutter when shooting outside. It will make the image look like it’s stuttering. To fix this you need to use ND filters. The other thing that might be happening is the natural 24P judder that can occur when panning - and if you also have a fast shutter mixed with the judder and can look like that.
If memory serves the iPhone 6 doesn’t shoot 4K, at least not natively. You have to use a 3rd party app. So if you have one of the apps to do that then you can use a Beastgrip and mount lenses to it.
iPhoneographers : thank you so much for the feedback. I am just got MoviePro. What what it said this should film 4K have you used this before? And could you recommend a startup softbox lighting setup? Thanks again t

Reviews for this lens or the older one? This new one is great. The older 60mm not so much. Their very best lens is probably the 18mm Wide, but this one is right there with it we’d say.
@@iphoneographers Yes the 58mm. Yes the best lens reviews come in on the 18mm....but I've always had LG V series phones so I don't need extra wide angle as I already have it. Hopefully they'll make a mount soon for the LGV40. Think I would buy the 58mm.
We stick to the main one more because it’s an f/1.8 vs. f/2.8 on iPhone 8 Plus. On XS Max the second lens is a f/2.4, so it’s faster and better, but not quite as good as the main lens. But if you want a super telephoto look then definitely use it, just probably best with plenty of light.
As always, great review! Comparing the moment tele (on the native wide) vs the native tele on its own, could you really notice a huge difference? My guess is there’s a visible difference but not unless you put them side by side. That’s why I’m a bit hesitant to get this lens for a phone that already has the built in tele lens. Furthermore, with the lens, you lose the ability to do portrait mode photos, so any gains you get in depth of field, you more than offset by losing portrait mode (at least for photos). So in my mind, the only real utility of the tele lens is to put it on the the native tele to get 4 x zoom. Do you think it’s worth it just for tele on tele?
We don’t use the iPhone Tele very often for a couple reasons... first on the 8 Plus it’s an f/2.8 vs. the f/1.8 on the wide. So it’s not great in low light. Second, it doesn’t always play nice with third-party video apps like Filmic Pro. Even when you lock the exposure you can get exposure shifts when panning contrasty things or something crosses the frame. Heard it’s an iOS issue. So it’s often better to use the wide lens with a Tele added. Adding the Moment Tele to the iPhone Tele is nice for certain things for sure, but you can still run into the issues above. So, for us it’s a lens we really like - especially for video. Thanks for watching!
moment 60mm lens lacked sharpness. i thought mine was faulty , then i got the cheaper sirui 60mm tele lens.. then I realized it surely lacked sharpness.
Love your videos and guidance, so helpful.... Question. I already use Moment’s Anamorphic and LOVE it. After watching this video I decided to order the 58mm as well but where I’m lost is how I’d go about merging my footage overall. I mean, my Anamorphic footage/sequence is super wide. If I pulled in footage shot with the 58mm would I need to scale this up & crop the top/bottom? And if it’s done this way is there a setting in Filmic Pro that might allow me to see how it’s going to crop as I shoot? Hope my questions are clear. Thanks again! 🤙🏻
Typically you probably wouldn’t use those two looks in the same project, but you definitely can. 3 ways in post-production... 1. Edit in 16x9 and then letterbox the footage within that aspect ratio - so the anamorphic would be desqueezed and the Tele footage would be normal and you’d add a letterbox so they’d match. 2. Shoot 4K and edit in HD. This way you can either edit in widescreen to match the anamorphic or 16x9 to match the Tele - then you just reframe & reposition the footage as desired (since you have the 4K resolution in the 1080 edit). 3. Edit 4K widescreen anamorphic and then push in on the 16x9 Tele footage and you’ll lose the top and bottom (so when shooting keep that in mind - you can add a guideline or marker in Filmic Pro to help with this, but DO NOT actually crop it in Filmic Pro as you’ll lose the top & bottom and won’t be able to reframe). Hope this all makes sense. Thanks for watching!
Will share this too… It’s a letterbox pack that we offer and it has videos that explain what we’re talking about also... www.iphoneographers.tv/product-page/aspect-ratio-overlays-pack
@@iphoneographers I'll need to think on these 3, and wow - I really appreciate the break-down. Super helpful... Love your channel, man! -- Please keep'em coming. :)
Great video! This one is very helpfull. :) I think it depends on the purpose. If you choose an analog look, the 60mm is better. It looks less "digital". But I also like the improved sharpness of the 58. On the other hand, I like the price of the older one more. xD At the end of the day, you need to think about the project or the type of work you want to do. And can your audience recognize the difference?
I just got mine (and some more) thanks to your videos! BTW I love my OSMO Pocket; what a great camera for its size (perhaps I am not as picky, er, particular as you may be about it ;0) )!
Awesome! And we’ve been using the Osmo Pocket a lot recently and think it’s great. We’re fans for sure. We were just comparing it to the other gimbals and feel if you’re only going to have one then the Osmo Mobile probably makes more sense. But if you can afford them both then by all means we think it’s a winner. 👍🏻 Thanks for watching!
I've compared the Moment lenses with the Sandmarc lenses and found the better value with Sandmarc. The Sandmarc lenses are equal or better in image quality (depending on which lens is compared) but also general less expensive. And in terms of customer service, Moment is an epic fail.
i wish moment kept upgrading and made a much higher mm lens. like 100-200. i know thats a lot of glass but its the one thing our phones cant do great. zoom
This video doesn't talk directly to how good the lens is (title). Only how good it is compared to the V1.Change the title and you'll have a more accurate description.
I’m very disappointed with my 58mm Moment lens on my iPhone 11 Pro Max. It has a ton of chromatic aberration. It doesn’t work with my iPhone’s portrait mode in terms of selecting f-stop. I thought it would. Stay away from Moment lenses. They add nothing to the newer iPhones.
Hi #IphonePhotographers , I’m a upcoming filmmaker , i have more ideas for Awesome Short Films . But I don’t have good camera. But then by seeing your videos I learnt to make film on my iPhone but then also i don’t have good lense. So Can you Help me . Please!!!
I think the lens on your phone should be fine (depending on the story you're trying to tell). Moment lenses are one of (if not the) best for phones but if you need cheaper ones, you can find it on ebay a lot for a few bucks, just don't expect the quality to be out of this world. Now, if you can't spend anything, use the lens already in the phone; shooting in 4k gets you up to 4x the resolution (and you can use this to reframe or zoom your shot) if you export in 1080p, which is standard in youtube and most streaming sites.
Yeah, pretty much. :) Kind of like a phone. But most of the cameras like this have about a 3 to 4 or so year lifespan, technically speaking (meaning the tech changes pretty fast).
@@iphoneographers I mean cloth bag for lens, not whole packaging. Old bag was nice microfiber and it lets you safely clean your lens when needed. New bag is plastic and it could scratch lens when used to clean. Or maybe they ship worse quality for "third world countries" in Europe. But also, phone case for 8 plus was much nicer (hard plastic, transparent cover in paper box vs just paper box) . Anyway nobody gives a s*** for case box, you see it only when unboxing. Cloth bag is main storage method for lens.

How much cost the 58mm lens ?
Per Moment’s website it’s currently $99.99 USD. There’s a link in the description that will save you 10% though if you’re interested.
iPhoneographers thank you for your answer , I'm looking forward that i can have it.
@@iphoneographers I wish you released this sooner. I bought the lens a few days ago :(
Just got ours 3 days ago!
58 mm here I come!!
Great video! This one is very helpfull. :)
I think it depends on the purpose. If you choose an analog look, the 60mm is better. It looks less "digital". But I also like the improved sharpness of the 58.
On the other hand, I like the price of the older one more. xD
At the end of the day, you need to think about the project or the type of work you want to do.
And can your audience recognize the difference?
Yes, agreed! Great points.
@@iphoneographers Thanks ☺️
why not put the tele lens on the iphone tele lense?
I just got mine (and some more) thanks to your videos! BTW I love my OSMO Pocket; what a great camera for its size (perhaps I am not as picky, er, particular as you may be about it ;0) )!
Awesome! And we’ve been using the Osmo Pocket a lot recently and think it’s great. We’re fans for sure. We were just comparing it to the other gimbals and feel if you’re only going to have one then the Osmo Mobile probably makes more sense. But if you can afford them both then by all means we think it’s a winner. 👍🏻 Thanks for watching!
O bought both. On iphone x the 60m make lot vignette and lost shape. Now i want sell this lens
If you bought it recently I believe you can send it back
Yeah the 58mm is much better, worth the upgrade.
Isn’t that a coffee roasting place in the scene where you’re shooting the clouds?
Not sure. Lol. Just some random shots we grabbed.
this video is best super good
The moment he said he is lazy to go outside
I've compared the Moment lenses with the Sandmarc lenses and found the better value with Sandmarc. The Sandmarc lenses are equal or better in image quality (depending on which lens is compared) but also general less expensive. And in terms of customer service, Moment is an epic fail.
We’ve heard good things about Sandmarc but never used them. Want to though along with Sirui.
you’re better off with the Sandmarc version! far superior glass quality by a long shot!
Yeah, we've been impressed with Sandmarc too.
I try to buy it but Sad I can not get it here in Germany 🇩🇪
Germany Today with Mahmoud 🇩🇪 try use a us box service ( alternative posting service) but you will pay a 50 dollars more +-
Sorry to hear that. We’ve heard Sirui lenses are similar and available on Amazon. Might look at those.
Try the Amazon they sell the products there as well just got my case last week.
i wish moment kept upgrading and made a much higher mm lens. like 100-200. i know thats a lot of glass but its the one thing our phones cant do great. zoom
Yeah it would be nice to see that. Besstgrip has a great 3x lens that helps a lot.
@@iphoneographers unfortunately they don't really support non iPhones well
This video doesn't talk directly to how good the lens is (title). Only how good it is compared to the V1.Change the title and you'll have a more accurate description.
Thanks for watching and the suggestion, but we feel it definitely shows how good it is. 👍🏻
@@iphoneographers ...but does it for the average person buying their first add-on lens?
Nice 👍
I’m very disappointed with my 58mm Moment lens on my iPhone 11 Pro Max. It has a ton of chromatic aberration. It doesn’t work with my iPhone’s portrait mode in terms of selecting f-stop. I thought it would. Stay away from Moment lenses. They add nothing to the newer iPhones.
External lenses don’t work with portrait mode as iPhones use two lenses - the Tele & Wide together - to achieve the effect.
Great info from Gabriel! 👍🏻
I thought that the 58mm give a good bokeh
is this good enough to produce high quality beauty videos?
Sure. Just use a newer smartphone and a camera app like Filmic Pro.
What happens when the OSMO Pocket's battery can no longer be recharged? They all have a certain life.....I guess time for a new OSMO then?
Yeah, pretty much. :) Kind of like a phone. But most of the cameras like this have about a 3 to 4 or so year lifespan, technically speaking (meaning the tech changes pretty fast).
😅 I got the 60mm
The 58mm is soft.
New moment lenses are shipped with terrible quality plastic bags instead of microfiber bags like before... consider this.
Not ours. Just got it 3 days ago. Was in the black box they’ve used for a while with the foam insert along with the microfiber bag. No plastic.
That’s interesting. Our new lens bag is cloth. Not plastic. We show it in the video.
