You nailed it on the head with the iPhone 13…. When I upgraded my phone to the 13 is exactly when I stopped using my moment lenses. I bought the moment case for it, used them a few times out of habit, and then set them on a shelf and forgot about them due to the native cameras being so good comparatively. It just didn’t make sense to carry around the moment lenses when I could cover 95% of the shots I wanted to without them.
Although… I am considering picking up the new 58mm to self film some hunts. The 58 on the native tele would put me at a decent overall framing for 20-30 yard archery shots.
Yeah, the main thing about using lenses and why I like it and recommend them is you can just use the main camera, which is the best one by far - and get different looks with the lenses.
I’m beginning to think that the iPhone 15 Pro Max is better off without add-on lenses by any lens maker. The only reason to add a third party lens may be for a special look - either fish eye or anamorphic.
The lenses are still very useful. It permits you to have wide and telephoto while using the 48 mp sensor of the main lens. The wide and telephoto iPhone lenses are 12. Even more important if you are shooting in RAW.
Before buying the 15 pro max I asked myself, if I should buy the pro max OR the pro with a Moment case and a lense. Well, at the end it was cheaper to buy the pro max. Most of the time, I make videos so that the 48mp argument doesn’t count for me.
The main benefit is being able to use the main 24mm camera and get different looks as it’s the best quality by far (especially in low light)- and that’s for video & photography.
Would love to see a comparison with the Beastgrip lenses. Also what would really be cool is if you could test Beastgrip’s new DOF devise which allows you to use Canon EF mount lenses with the iPhone.
I've been wanting to invest in a mobile lens kit and was holding out for your review of the Moment T-series - thanks for this! With your review and noticing Moment is really putting in a lot of effort into products that aren't related to mobile videography/photography...makes me think they're no longer king of the hill in this market. I'm leaning more towards Beast Grip but may hold out to see your comparison video. Thanks again for making such insightful content!
Your review hit home. I had the 18W and Tele58 T-Series. I sent them back. There was no edge to edge clarity on the W. The Tele would only focus on one spot. I would need to focus stack to get a clear image. Both were super blurry at the edges. Also, my Tele had a purple flare that I could not get rid of on ANY shot. Super disappointed. I too wonder if I received a bad batch. I do know one other person that had the same issue. I read somewhere that the Moment Team recommends manual focusing with their app. Maybe try focus peaking to see if you can get a clearer image. I did not try that. What are your thoughts on the new Reeflex G-Series lenses?
hello, tele lens user here. Yeah... they never talk about the focus in tele lens, only works on manual or constantly touching the yellow square in the iphone camera. Is usable with a tripod and statics subjects
I’m wondering if they didn’t get a bad batch because their lenses are on backorder. My 18mm is great and I’m absolutely using it. The 58mm as I demonstrated is usable but not perfect, but if you push in and reframe in post, it’s totally fine, but that right edge mainly is a little funky. The ReeFlex lenses look very promising and I am a fan. I did some early testing on the prototype ones and was impressed. I’ll be doing a full review I think in January.
Im only waiting for your to review moment t series anamorphic before i order. I hav m series gold and blue anamorphics and they used to work amazing on 12/13 pm. Now coming to 14 and 15 - these lenses are useless. I listed all 3 m series anamorphi on fb market. That 1.55x got sold and left with 2. Hope t series anamorphic turns out good on 15 pro max. Gotta see.
Hey there, good review. But I’m always asking myself, why would you “need” those lenses / this whole rig for shooting on iPhone? Yes it provides more flexibility with better image quality and it’s fun for sure but what’s the point of spending extra money on the lenses, the cage and probably some filters? Why not spend it on an interchangeable lens camera? Don’t the accessories and the extra weight defy the purpose of shooting on a phone that is compact and already has several lenses built in?
Totally depends on what you’re doing. For most people you are probably fine with just the built-in lenses. But for others who either use their phone as their main video or stills camera - or like me who use it as a B cam - they’re very useful. But if you’re just shooting a kid’s birthday party or some vacation pics then the phone alone is good. And no one is saying don’t buy a traditional camera, of course do that if you want. But you already own the phone so there’s no additional expense there. Thanks for watching!
Ordered the Moment anamorphic T -series in August 24th. Still to be delivered today, Nov. 17 2023. It does not make any sense selling a product which you have no stock and there no short term prevision about availability. Probably the iphone 16 will arrive quicker. It was my last time with Moment. SandMarc moves faster.
Very nice video, thank you. i just got my 18mm T-series and i find those similar issues as your 58mm; blurrier/ soft images with a cooler tone. i also noticed that the image pixels are larger with the 18mm, which is why the images seem blurrier...
Have you tried on smaller main sensor phone (android or iphone)? If you take a little zoom on main cam (1.3x or 1.5x), does the smoothness/CA dissapear?
Thanks for the info. I decided to temporarily put the Sonys away and focus on my iPhone 15 pro max. I am investigating the different lenses etc. and had pretty much ruled out Moment. But with the introduction of the T-series I added them back into the mix. Unfortunatly, the T-lenses are listed as back ordered, and your honest review has moved them back to end of the line. ShiftSCAM is now permanently removed from list. Will be interested in seeing how the new Reeflex lenses will fare. The whole ShiftSCAM debacle has unfortunately tarnished the Kick starter option.
Interesting that you mention this. I backed the Reeflex G-Series campaign. I am super hesitant after my experience with Moment’s T-Series lenses. I have chatted with some of the Reeflex beta testers and they all have great things to say about the new G-Series. I love the long-range macro in their previous series.
Are Shiftcam slow to ship? I’ve personally had a great experience with them and their lenses. Working on a 15 Pro Max video with their stuff actually now.
The ReeFlex G-Series are very promising. I got an early look at the prototype and was impressed. Great build quality and the image was excellent in my initial testing. And I really like that they use a 17mm mount too. I should be getting a set around the Christmas holidays and will be doing a video about them.

Info I need right now. Upgrading a 12 pro max with a Moment anamorphic. Thanks for helping me decide the direction I should go. When will you get the anamorphic from Moment?
When I bought the tele lens series M for my iPhone 12 Pro Max had the same issue, basically didn’t use it! Made me think I shouldn’t buy moment T series for now
I was really interested in moment lenses but they don't make specific cases nor app for android phones. Having an S23 Ultra it would be hard to justify to buy lenses and be dealing with trying to align correctly a lens. I bought other brand which does produce cases for my phone and many other accessories.
Very helpful, thanks. The ShiftCam 60mm has the same type of soft focus and CA issues. I wonder if there is some sort of limitations with longer lenses and the new iPhone sensor?
I've had it with proprietary solutions. Imagine if we could put C-mount lenses on our phones - there are thousands of choices of high quality optics in that mount. Same thing for proprietary filter mounts. Gimme a break.
Do the M series lenses work fine with the iPhone 11 Pro or do you get soft edges with that combination? The reason I am curious about the M-series is because the telephoto 58 mm lens is light enough to be used on a DJI mobile phone gimbal whereas the T series is too heavy.
They don't seem to work on Android although Moment assured me they would when I asked about purchasing......bought the T series 58mm and it doesn't seem to be working unless I am doing something wrong - also bought the universal mount which I was told I would need......this doesn't really work either as for a start you can't really tighten it up tight enough to grip, if I had tightened it any further it would have cracked the screen, so tends to slide.
Those universal mounts can be tough to use on any phone. Too bad they don’t make a case. But it does seem like the lenses are having issues with certain devices.
Something that no one tells is this 58-60 mm lenses from Moment, Sandmarc , Shiftcam are not 2x magnification in reality. They are 1.75x - 1,85x acctually. So they are 42-45 mm equivalent. As i have Shiftcam 60mm and 18mm, Moment lenses seems to me a bit softer.
Seems to unfortunately be the norm for this lens on the 15. Others have reported similar issues. Shiftcam Tele has subtly soft edges too, but it’s better than Moment.. I’ll be comparing others soon.
I got the T wide 18 mm. Have you noticed that when mounted in the main camera ( iPhone 14 Pro Max, ), the image is not as sharp as with the native lens?
Typically adding any type of conversion lens will degrade the image slightly, but it shouldn’t really be very noticeable and if anything it helps because iPhone video is often over sharp. But if you’re talking about soft edges or chromatic aberration, that’s a different story and haven’t really noticed any with the 18mm.
What fisheye lens would you get for an iPhone 13 mini? I know moment has the M-series and T-series in a 14mm, which would work best with a 13 mini? Or does someone else make a great fisheye that would work great with the 13 mini?
The 18mm here is very similar and a smaller build, but the 58mm has issues - so I’d say the Sherpa line is probably better (although they don’t have a telephoto yet).
Yeah, I think so. Though Freewell are very good too, but they don’t have a telephoto yet. Reeflex is reporting their telephoto works, but their lenses aren’t available yet - should be early-ish 2024.
Why I will NEVER do business with Moment again. I ordered the newest T-Series case, drop in mount and anamorphic lens for my iPhone 15 pro max only to pay and find out that Moment couldn’t fulfill the order. The lens was now on back order for like 2 weeks. So they shipped the case and mount. The case is extremely cheap! Well not in price as they charge $40 for the POs case and $5 more for the cheap ass plastic drop in mount! When it came time for them to ship the lens as the order stated they said they didn’t have any lens yet and hoped it would ship the following month. That didn’t work for me and I asked for a full refund. They refunded the lens and then sent me the return email for the case and mount. Now it says they are charging me $10 to return something I never opened or used! On top of that you have to print their return label and packing slip! $10 to return something I never used and on top of that I have to pay to print out a return label. Not because I didn’t want it but because Moment couldn’t fulfill the order I paid for. Welp, that will definitely make me never purchase anything from Moment again.
@@oldrango883 I understand the frustration, on the other side, perhaps lens were out of stock, because they're actually good? Luckily, i can get all moment lense locally, just want to make sure im doing a right move with either Moment or Shiftcam.
Which phone are you using? If you have a 14 Pro or earlier than the Shiftcam would be my choice. If you have a 15 Pro then neither of those tele perform that well. The wide angle are both fine. I’m working on a comprehensive video covering most brands and it’ll be out hopefully in the next 3ish weeks. But I have a very in-depth article I posted on my website that you might find helpful… www.iphoneographers.tv/post/next-gen-iphone-lenses
@@iphoneographers I have iphone 15 pro max. I want to achieve bokeh effect with the iphone, but not using built in cinematic mode, rather recording in BM app. I'm shooting talking head videos. Which lens would you recommend? And actually will any lens attached on the iphone crate the bokeh? Thanks.
If you add a 58mm tele (or 60mm depending on the brand) to the main 24mm iPhone camera you can get shallow DOF if your subject is not too far away. So an interview setting could work if your say 5 or 6 feet away - that’s a guess, you would just need to experiment. But I have done that before and it looks pretty good. Now don’t expect bokeh like a mirrorless camera, but you can get some separation. The other way to achieve bokeh is to use a DOF adapter - and for interviews they can work very well.
This is the exact video I was waiting to see before pulling the trigger on a set of lenses for my 15. You've used Moment, Freewill, Sandmarc and Smallrig lenses, what would you recommend for a iPhone 15 Max. I'm looking to spend about $500-$600 on an anamorphic, wide, and telephoto. Are you able to confirm if your 58mm lens was possibly faulty?
Freewell any day the kind of convince have with magnetic filters one filter covering all 3 camera I used moment, sandmarc gave up on all of them also their new lenses are the only one I have found with best sharpness even when comparing to beast grip that my friend has.
Check out this post I did about which lenses to buy depending on what you’re shooting… www.iphoneographers.tv/post/next-gen-iphone-lenses I’m now testing Shiftcam and will be looking at Sandmarc soon too. More videos coming.
I got all the M lenses. I could not get any of the new lenses cause they didn't not make a case for samsung. I ask them if they will make a case And not repply
My issue has always been with my anamorphic having vertical bars when moving side to side no matter how much I rotate the back plate on a xs max, 11 pro max, 15 pro max. Sad
Unfortunately, Moment has seemingly let others run ahead of them after a promising start, by branching into fashion accessories rather than developing photography gear for mobile such as cages, grips, BT triggers, etc. It's a shame to see that even when they do update, like with the T-series, it's got quality issues. They should've been first to market with products like Beastgrip, Fjorden, PolarPro's litechaser, which with the 13 & 14 supported moment lenses which it then dropped it with the 15. That said, with the quality of the 15 Pro's lenses, I think only specialty lenses are worth it - either fish eye, anamorphic, or the 75 mm macro. Would be cool if they came out with a more powerful tele that didn't have quality issues... like 3x or higher so we can zoom in further with the primary camera. Oh, and the 5X tele won't work with ANY mobile lens accessory due to the distance of sensor from the lens surface relative to the other cameras. It's a physics issue, not a manufacturing issue. Thanks for the review!
Yeah l like Moment and have used them for a long time, but now mobile is only part of their overall business. I’m glad they’ve updated their lenses and look forward to testing the other offerings. I do like using lenses to get the best results on the main 48MP sensor, but agree that the speciality ones are probably the ideal options.

I hate these smartphones lenses, why pay soo much for all stupid accessories and 2 grand on phone when you can buy awesome or micro four thirds with way way better price in second hand market. Moment is a rip off even sandmarc too. I have used these and regretted buying. The main issue with smartphone is there is resell value in the market for accessories you loose soo much money if you ever loose interest or these accessories doesn’t meet your criteria. Just invest in a pro camera, it will pay off in a long term!
These lenses are dead end now ever since DJI Osma 3 dropped. Mobile filmmaking will be dead soon too because of DJI. Active track, low light, log, different shoot techniques and possibilities in a small form factor, yeah mobile film making won’t survive
@@SuperSinamatic nice selling pitch but the reality is the Osma 3 looks good also with it 10 bit log and it’s far more versatile and can easily be on you at all times also not to mention there’s little to NO prep for it.
Depends on which phone they go on, but yeah the specs have always been an approximation I’ve found.
i am talking about iphone 14-15th@@iphoneographers
Can you test the Pro series Mk1 Beastgrip anamorphic lenses on the 15 Pro Max?
The v1 won’t work they don’t even work on the 13, but the v2 will. I’m waiting to get a new cage for the 15 though.
What is the cage that you’re using from Beastgrip? I cannot find that exact half type of model anywhere, thank you!
I use the Beastgrip Pro, which is universal, or the Beastcage which is for specific phones (not available for the 15 yet). amzn.to/3sTu73Q
Gr8 video! very insightful. Does the new 18 mm T work with the M case and M drop in mount?
You have to have the T series drop in mount, but I think the cases are the same. Thanks for watching!
That 58 lens: any update if it was a bad lens or mounting issue?
Seems to unfortunately be the norm for this lens on the 15. Others have reported similar issues. Shiftcam Tele has subtly soft edges too, but it’s better than Moment.. I’ll be comparing others soon.
Have you tried tele on tele and what are your thoughts 😮
Nvm I saw you’re disappointed 😢
Does it make a difference if you use the Moment camera app?
No. The only thing it does is give you lens metadata if you choose it when shooting photos.
I ordered mine last September. It is now Feb and has not arrived. Production delays. 😅
Yeah, seems to be a problem industry wide. Hope you get it soon.
Questions. Im using samsung s23 ultra. Can i still use the M series lenses and the M adapters? Because its hard to find T series in my country.
I don’t know that phone so I really can’t tell you for sure, but what I do know is the larger sensor phones don’t work very well with the M series.
Hey, do you think this lens are better then Freewell Sharp?
The 18mm here is very similar and a smaller build, but the 58mm has issues - so I’d say the Sherpa line is probably better (although they don’t have a telephoto yet).
can you do the 1.33x anamorphic, I don't see any channel reviewing that lens 🥹
Yep! Once I get one. :)
@@iphoneographers i mean the T series anamorphic, you got one???
No. I have the 1.55x not the 1.33x. I hope to get one in the near future.
Please compare beastgrip pro tele 1.7 on iPhone 15 pro max ? is it recomended ? Or frewell?
Definitely a comparison is in the works.
@@iphoneographers Yes great. Moment T 58 mm on iphone 15 pro max vs beastgrip pro tele 1.7 ?
Sooo BEASTGRIP still number one choice for quality?
Yeah, I think so. Though Freewell are very good too, but they don’t have a telephoto yet. Reeflex is reporting their telephoto works, but their lenses aren’t available yet - should be early-ish 2024.
great and i mean, great review! cheers
Would you go for Moment or Shiftcam lenses (wide+tele)?
I suggest SandMarc Lens and cases.
Freewell any day the kind of convince have with magnetic filters one filter covering all 3 camera I used moment, sandmarc gave up on all of them also their new lenses are the only one I have found with best sharpness even when comparing to beast grip that my friend has.
@@LMOF01 For what it is worth, Sandmarc does not recommend using their new telephoto lens over the 15 Pro Max 5x tele.
Check out this post I did about which lenses to buy depending on what you’re shooting… www.iphoneographers.tv/post/next-gen-iphone-lenses
I’m now testing Shiftcam and will be looking at Sandmarc soon too. More videos coming.
Good to know, thank you! @@kalannash
Thanks!
Thank you! Appreciate it.
I got all the M lenses. I could not get any of the new lenses cause they didn't not make a case for samsung. I ask them if they will make a case And not repply
Will these lenses work on a 12 pro max?
If they have a case for that phone, then yes
My issue has always been with my anamorphic having vertical bars when moving side to side no matter how much I rotate the back plate on a xs max, 11 pro max, 15 pro max. Sad
Vertical bars? Not sure what you mean.
You mean vignetting?

Does Moment acknowledge their lens errors or it's just one reviewer's words against another?
They acknowledge it. They actually sent me a new Tele lens and I did a follow up because the one I got was bad… ruclips.net/video/K6-FaOOLnm8/видео.htmlsi=iHmifWHIlD3LKDqT
@@iphoneographers O, that's relieving.
I am done with Moment. I am staying with Beastrgrip for now.
Beastgrip are great. 👍🏻
Great
❤❤❤
There was a time when I loved moment. But then they talked absolute bullshit about compatibility for years when their lenses no longer worked. I lost all trust and faith in them. I moved onto Beastgrip and Sandmarc. Will never go back to moment.
Those are both very solid choices. 👍🏻
No one is saying not to invest in other cameras. These are just nice options for a phone/camera you already own.
58mm looks like cheap chinese copies around internet.
No thanks. I'm done with Moment. Wasted money buying the previous line of lenses. Even this new line looks soft compared to the native lenses.
These lenses are dead end now ever since DJI Osma 3 dropped. Mobile filmmaking will be dead soon too because of DJI. Active track, low light, log, different shoot techniques and possibilities in a small form factor, yeah mobile film making won’t survive
totally disagree.. the iPhone still looks better overall.. and its with me 24/7
@@SuperSinamatic nice selling pitch but the reality is the Osma 3 looks good also with it 10 bit log and it’s far more versatile and can easily be on you at all times also not to mention there’s little to NO prep for it. Your iphone still has to be somewhat treated with gimbals, 3rd party lenses, Apple lightening or type C accessories, for audio and more…. So yea… within the next 12 or less you’ll see massive decreases in sells for all this mobile film making stuff AKA… Dead!
Osma 3 is a nice piece of kit, but the bulk of people want to use the Camera phone in their pocket.
Maybe if DJI included a cell phone with their camera. You wouldn’t know it from watching RUclips influencers but the vast majority of people don’t use their phone cameras for mobile filmmaking.
