However, you've mentioned in this video that these lenses all work better on older iPhones. Which would you say would be a better way to go -- an iPhone 15 Pro Max or an iPhone 14 Pro Max?
15 Pro Max no question. And if you want lenses just go with ReeFlex or Beastgrip or Sandmarc depending on what you’re shooting and which ecosystem you decide on.
Great to hear. I just got mine in the last few weeks and so haven’t used them much but I’m going to do a full review video on those as well, so far pretty impressive.
I tend to shy away from exact pricing just because it changes so often, but I do mention in the video that Beastgrip is the most expensive, and then you should also check out the article I wrote because there I go into more detail about that - link in the description. Thanks for watching!
Yeah I’ve done that in some previous videos with anamorphic and I will again when I do a video on those comparing them, but I was only using the Blackmagic Camera app and it doesn’t technically have that setting. I have to use the native camera app to get the official virtual 48mm. Thanks for watching!
@@iphoneographersThat makes total sense, maybe I have a different question then… I’d like to see a comparison of the native 24 lens at 2X (48mm) compared to stacking a third party lens on a native lens to get roughly an equivalent view. So which is sharper?
Using a third-party tele lens on the 24mm you’ll get much better results in photography as it’s the 48MP camera vs. 12MP on the virtual lens. Also, you can get more shallow DOF with a lens. With video the sharpness is pretty much the same depending on the lens brand, but the 48mm virtual lens doesn’t degrade the quality in video mode.
Can any of these utilise the iPhone's 14 Pro's low light autofocus with videography or do they all interfere with the lidar sensor? I saw a video where it looked like the relatively small Sandmarc worked with the native camera app's autofocus but haven't been able to find any definitive answers.
Sandmarc has a really bad support - I gonna change my eccosystem. Do have Reeflex and Sandmarc 17mm mount so - Can I use a Reeflex Case for my Sandmar lenses? And the Beastgrip has a mount for Reeflex and Sandmarc?
@@iphoneographers Thank that means I can use Beastgrip with Beastgrip, Reeflex and Sandmarc lenses - just asking because of the understanding - English is not my mothertongue
Great video as usual Blake! Do you think the Beastgrip lenses are future proof because of the wider mount opening in case phone sensors get bigger? Also, could I use the Beastgrip lenses with say an IPhone 12 or 13?
They’re probably more future proof than others, but not guaranteed. I have lenses for my 12 Pro Max that don’t work on the 13 Pro Max. But since the 13 they’ve all worked very well. This 1.7x has been around for I think 16 months now or so and still works great as I showed with the latest gen phones. Thanks for watching!
I use the beastgrip pro cage with the telephoto lens, smallrig matte box with their ND filter, a sennheiser mke 400, smartphone clamp for second monitor smartphone connected with hdmi to elgato to usb c. All this together with my Sony Xperia 1 V but this rig works with any phone of any brand. Love it.
Great video. Question though: If shooting RAW with Halide application for example on iPhone 15 pro: wide lens 24mm x 1 will become a 40mm. Still gonna be a 48MP raw photo or way less? I need 48MP for shooting a painting but the original 24mm on iPhone 15pro and need 48MP RAW image for decent printing definition (300DPI) Thanks your great work!
As long as you use the main 24mm 1X lens you’ll get the 48MP. Regardless of what conversion lens you put on it. That’s really the beauty of it. It also makes it more useful in low light (for different looks) and also for creating more shallow depth of field.
It really depends on what ecosystem you want to buy into. They’re all good in different ways. But if you’re looking for Telephoto for sports then you can’t really go wrong with Beastgrip from a quality perspective. Although ReeFlex has a new tele coming that goes over the 5X tele on your camera, so essentially you get a 10x shot. I’ll be doing a video about that very soon.
Fantastic comparison! I have been a moment user for a number of years but lost faith in the quality of their lenses and have switched to the reflex g series. I loved the magnetic system for filters they have. I haven’t had to really put them through their paces but am impressed with the results so far. the only point i would make is that the production version of the game series lenses are different to yours. The Tele and wide are larger and now use a 67mm filter with the need to use an adapter. Will you be getting this version and testing those?
Interesting. I just got these two weeks ago and they’re supposed to be the final versions. But I haven’t used them enough to know. The ones I tested last fall were just loaned and I only had them for two days and I had to ship them back for their Kickstarter campaign. But I will look into that. And I’m actually going to do a dedicated review of just the ReeFlex soon. Thanks for watching!
Ok I just gotta know something: If you happen to have the moment VND Quicklock Filters and ANY 17mm thread iphone 16 pro case, do the quicklock filters fit over any of the camera plates? Alternatively: a 17mm adapter for a T-mount case would also work.
My understanding is the Quicklock only work with the Moment case. There are different cages with different plate mount adapters, but not from T to 17mm that I know of.
can i find a somewhere a comparison (Pictures) of the iPhone without Telephoto Lens and within the Freewell 1.7 Lens? does Objects come much closer and is it usefull?
Pretty sure in this video I show a baseline of the standard 24mm at some point and then compared to with the telephoto, but yes it makes a big difference in focal length and you get more shallow depth of field.
Hi from Italy, I was wondering if it's possible to screw a Sandmark lens on a Reeflex case, as both have 17mm treads they should fit each other on the same thread. You may asking why, I have an iPhone 11 Pro and I have now Moment system, but my phone rugged case it's not available anymore (too old phone), so I would like to buy a Reeflex case for my iPhone and fit a Sandmark lens, I find too big lenses from Reeflex and Sandmark doesn't make case for 11 Pro, even Reeflex lenses are better quality I don't really care for personal memories. Thanks
Hello, Thanx for all your support and video reviews... I am an iPhoneographer~ I get this flickering or glitch type effect in my videos whenever I use the 5x zoom with my beatsgrip 1.7x lens on my iPhone 15 pro max is this a common issue or is there a certain setting I need in the native iPhone app to resolve this issues ??
Haven’t had that issue. But whenever I hear people talk about flickering I typically think of too fast of shutter speed. Are you using an ND filter? I always try to shoot with the 180° shutter rule to get ideal motion blur. Otherwise, not really sure.
Reeflex seems to be out of their MagSafe case for a IPhone 14 Pro Max. Do you know of an alternative Mag Safe case that will accept ReeFlex lense? Many thanks.
Hey, I just got the Neewer cage and grips, but now I want to add a telephoto lens with a CPL filter. Do you know which lens I can use with a CPL filter? I want to be able to attach the CPL filter directly to the lens.
If I want to get the most out of my budget I can only go for Reeflex, but they dont sell an universal mount, so Can I use a universal clamp with 17mm for Reeflex? Or are there any other good performers out there?
In a weird way 17mm has become more universal since multiple brands use it now, so you could get cases and even cages that support it. But if you’re talking about a clip mount they do sell those or you can get them from a third-party, but I don’t personally like using them but they work OK in a pinch.
I'm delving into photography and recently upgraded to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. I'm heading to Monument Valley, particularly Forest Gump Point, to capture some stunning shots. Do you have any advice on bringing the background closer? Also, I'm considering investing in a telephoto lens. Any recommendations?
Hi, random question. I want the sandmarc phone case because it has Magnet on the back. But I prefer the Reeflex telephoto lens over the sandmarc one. Would the Reeflex lens fit on the sandmarc case? Thanks
Is there any chance we can get a chart about all the information mentioned in the video? I mean the facts( weight, mounting options, accessories), not image quality etc.
Between Reeflex and Beastgrip its too much difference in quality image? I was seeing that the Reeflex mount is not that massive, but I am able to sacrifice that because of the quality if it worth it
They’re very good, minus the telephoto. That is on the 15 Pro Max, if you have an earlier phone the telephoto should work fine. And if not, I’m hopeful they’ll fix this issue or replace any defective lenses. Freewell is a good company.
I have a question. What file system should I use on my SSD? I use PC (Windows). I have an iPhone 15 Pro. I want to shoot in Apple LOG and edit AE and AP@@iphoneographers
The chart or tripod never moves, but each lens is mounted to the phone, removed and then a new lens and case is put on the phone and put back in the rig, so none of the shots are 100% exactly the same.. And on top of that, all these lenses aren’t the same focal length. Some are 60mm, 58mm or 2x or 1.7x. They’re all cropped to the same right edge show any softness or aberrations.
I recently bought an anamorphic or 1.55x lens on Aliexpress and I really like it, but it doesn't have a brand, I only notice that the side edges, when I move the camera suddenly, tend to lose a little quality. Greetings from Colombia
Yeah moving the camera with the anamorphic and using image stabilization you can get some vignetting, so try turning IS off. But sometimes it’s just there and you can crop in post production to get rid of it. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for posting this. I was close to buying the Freewell since I already have the anamorphic, but I’m switching over entirely to Beastgrip now. I can’t stand Freewell’s proprietary locking system either-definitely not a brand I’d purchase from again.
Yeah I like their lenses actually, but the telephoto was disappointing. And their proprietary mount isn’t great - would prefer if they went more universal. But again, the other lenses are pretty nice and I actually love their traditional ND filters I use them all the time. Thanks for watching!
The iPhone 11 will work with pretty much any lenses as long as you have the correct case and mount. The issues didn’t arise until the 13 with the larger sensor and camera bump. So the older Moment M-Series telephoto would fine.
@@iphoneographers thanks for that feedback. My main priority is image quality/clarity when looking for the best lens to pair with my iPhone 11. Systems, filters etc are less important for me as I don't have any existing ones to account for. If I understood your review with the iPhone 15, your ranking in terms of image quality was Beastgrip, Reeflex, Sandmarc, Shiftcam, Moment and Freewell (?) Hypothetically, if you did the same test but with an iPhone 11, would the ranking be the same for these lenses? (I do understand that the Beastgrip wouldn't be suitable as it only works with the frame which I wouldn't want, but would the Sandmarc Shiftcam or Reeflex still be better on that measure than the Moment?). Or are you saying the Moment M-series would be the best?
@@iphoneographers thanks again - though I am still unclear as to whether the Moment M -series or any of the other lenses featured in your review would be the best with an iPhone 11? And is a T-series better than the M-series on the IP 11?
A couple of things come to mind here. I have to wonder what a photo comparison would be like because with video, the entire sensor is not being used. A comparison with photos should give the viewer a better idea of the image quality that’s to be expected from these lenses. Also, I think a more fair and accurate result would be attained if each lens was used with its proprietary case/mounting system. Using multiple lenses on the cage lends itself to some of them being at an improper distance from the sensor. Otherwise, a well thought out video. 👍
Actually using the cage makes it more precise. In my experience cases and those mounts can sometimes be slightly off if the phone or mount aren’t exactly positioned. I mainly focus on video on this channel, but yeah photography you can get great results using the 48MP sensor. Thanks for watching!
@@iphoneographers I'm using an s24 ultra, and never used external lenses/filters. Want to explore more and buy anamorphic and ND filters, total beginner in this area, what would you recommend?
Me too! Moment watched this video and they’re sending me a new lens, so I will update it if it changes. They’re wondering if I got a bad one. I’m not sure on Freewell because all the other lenses work great. I’ll update the associated article when I have news. Thanks for watching!
It seems a real shame that, other than Beastgrip, the manufacturers have generally gone for proprietary filter and lens mounts. I'm particularly disappointed that Moment, having made a new lens design, have stuck with their rather clumsy filter arrangement. I will be interested to see if your replacement Moment lens is any better than the one you have. I have an iPhone 13 pro and invested in the Moment system but was so disappointed with the results that I have got rid of the lenses now. I wonder if the very large exit pupil of the Beastgrip lens will allow it to be more compatible with new iPhone cameras in the future.
I actually wasn’t going to because they all pretty much work well with all the phones, however there are differences in the various brands… So by popular demand I’ll probably do it now. :)
Hey mate, I just bought the beast cage for my iPhone XS Max, they said they don’t have m-mount plates. Do you know where I can get some or do I have to MacGyver one in 3D print?
Yeah I literally just got those lenses and I inadvertently left that information out. I’m doing a full review of them soon and I’ll include that. Thanks for watching!
Be careful when buying the moment T series gold flare anamorphic lens I wouldn’t want you to crack it again like what happened with the 1st one the M series gold flare lens
it realy annoy me that some compagny does a case for all iphone model, but the other brand even Samsung, they are like '' hey here a little clamp to fit are pricey lenses. but we dont care'' even reeflex, their app is iOS on thier site
I've been eyeing getting lenses as a way to avoid buying a real camera for a while just to cut down on expense. Hope to see updated reviews someday for the 16 pro. So far it looks like Reeflex is the first to start making Iphone 16 moves with their upcoming tele lens, but the fact that they only have a plain black leather magsafe case is kindof a turnoff. Guess you gotta suffer for your art huh?
The ones I use the most in my own work like short films etc. are Beastgrip. It’s not only because of the image quality, but I like how I can use bigger, traditional filters that I already own. To me that’s very important. And all their gear is super solid, especially their cage. But I don’t do travel kind of stuff and that wouldn’t work for it. So there you go. 😃
@gabricks1224 Moment were by far my most used and favorite from about the iPhone 8 to the 13 and then it changed once we got the bigger sensors. So I really like them and the T series, just need to figure out whether they work well enough on the latest generation phones (i’ve been having issues as I demoed). But definitely a solid option!
@@iphoneographers well I got the moment anamorphic lenses Blue and Gold flare 1.33x T series, I’m still waiting for the filter mount to arrive and I tested both of them and they work well on the 15 pro max
Lens manufacturers pretend that there are no other smartphones except Samsung and iPhone. At the same time, iPhone and Samsung are not leaders in mobile photography, but manufacturers of cases and lenses ignore this. This is very annoying. I do not want to be in the iPhone sect and in the Samsung sect, my camera phone is Oppo and Vivo smartphones. I need a telephoto lens with a universal mount that will not be useless after changing the smartphone in a year.
iPhone and Samsung are the best selling accessories and that’s the main reason they do it, however, many of these lenses will work on other phones if you use a universal cage like the Beastgrip Pro and an adapter, as needed. But that is really geared towards video and not photography.
I am very disappointed with Freewell lens, apart from very soft picture also has huge issue with aberration chromatic - this is a useless lens... and of course also I do have an issue with mount of the back cap
Yes their telephoto is not a good lens, but I am hopeful they’ll update it or revise it. It’s unfortunate because the other lens in their set are overall quite good.

Love it.
Nice setup!
Great video. Question though:
If shooting RAW with Halide application for example on iPhone 15 pro: wide lens 24mm x 1 will become a 40mm.
Still gonna be a 48MP raw photo or way less?
I need 48MP for shooting a painting but the original 24mm on iPhone 15pro and need 48MP RAW image for decent printing definition (300DPI)
Thanks your great work!
As long as you use the main 24mm 1X lens you’ll get the 48MP. Regardless of what conversion lens you put on it. That’s really the beauty of it. It also makes it more useful in low light (for different looks) and also for creating more shallow depth of field.
@@iphoneographers Thanks a lot for clarification!
Planning to do sports photography like basketball, what lens do you recommend for iphone 14 promax and iphone 16 promax. Thanks in advance
@@iphoneographers I will look forward to that video as i always find your videos informative and uncluttered with unnecessary info.
Great video.. only missed some dof portrait comparisons
Yeah I focused on traditional video here not photography.
I ordered the Reeflex yesterday and after watching this great video, I think a made a good choice.
Great lenses!
can i find a somewhere a comparison (Pictures) of the iPhone without Telephoto Lens and within the Freewell 1.7 Lens? does Objects come much closer and is it usefull?
Pretty sure in this video I show a baseline of the standard 24mm at some point and then compared to with the telephoto, but yes it makes a big difference in focal length and you get more shallow depth of field.
Is it possible to buy a lens that you can zoom in and out with for iphone
Not a physical lens. But you can add a lens and then zoom within the phone.
I am an iPhoneographer~
I get this flickering or glitch type effect in my videos whenever I use the 5x zoom with my beatsgrip 1.7x lens on my iPhone 15 pro max is this a common issue or is there a certain setting I need in the native iPhone app to resolve this issues ??
Haven’t had that issue. But whenever I hear people talk about flickering I typically think of too fast of shutter speed. Are you using an ND filter? I always try to shoot with the 180° shutter rule to get ideal motion blur. Otherwise, not really sure.
@@iphoneographers Ok I will try that, Than you~
great review thanks a lot. just wondering... thought the blackmagic camera app is for video... how do you use it for still photos?
Yeah it’s a video camera app. For still photos I use the native camera app or a dedicated photo app like Halide or Reeflex. Thanks for watching!
If you have a cage/case with a 17mm mounting point, will a 17mm to 37mm step-up ring allow you to use the Beastgrip lenses?
Yes, on most cages that should work. Probably wouldn’t do it on a case though because of the weight of the lens.
Reeflex seems to be out of their MagSafe case for a IPhone 14 Pro Max. Do you know of an alternative Mag Safe case that will accept ReeFlex lense? Many thanks.
Sandmarc uses the same 17mm mount. Or a number of cages like from Neewer, SmallRig and Beastgrip do as well. But Sandmarc prob only MagSafe option.
@@iphoneographers Many thanks.
@@iphoneographers I Will take a better look, cause I am quite a beginner, and this whole ecosystem thing is a pain to learn.Thank you.
Wonderful content. Thank you very much for the useful information, you probably saved many of us time and money.
Do these lenses work over the iPhone 15 Pro Max 5x camera? Could you do a video showing some shots using that camera?
Most do not work on the 5X.
Is the Moment lens in the review T series or M?
T-series
Hi, random question.
I want the sandmarc phone case because it has Magnet on the back.
But I prefer the Reeflex telephoto lens over the sandmarc one.
Would the Reeflex lens fit on the sandmarc case?
Thanks
Yep! ReeFlex has both standard cases and MagSafe cases too.
Is there any chance we can get a chart about all the information mentioned in the video? I mean the facts( weight, mounting options, accessories), not image quality etc.
Would love to see a similar test for photography, and portraits.
Between Reeflex and Beastgrip its too much difference in quality image? I was seeing that the Reeflex mount is not that massive, but I am able to sacrifice that because of the quality if it worth it
They are pretty similar. Reeflex are smaller and use a 17mm mount.
is it possible to use the iphone camera app CINEMATIC MODE with theese lens ? Sandmarc looks balanced in terms of size and quality
and using portrait mode or the "adding later" portrait mode for taking photo in iphone 15 pro camera app new feature.
It’s possible, but you definitely get mixed results. Here’s a video I did… ruclips.net/video/ZEFRlM-TQW0/видео.htmlsi=Ap3Gmw0s-7z5dnWH
I recently received my Sherpas. I hope I made the right choice
16:11 The charts aren't even aligned between the shots, and they're not even cropped to the chart so it's hard to see the details.
Great video very informative for beginners!
is about that time for me to grab one of these bad boys! thanks for the information!
size and weight... how well will that work when on a DJI osmo mobile 6 ... I would think not very well.
That gimbal won’t hold telephoto lenses very well, but it’ll do ok with lighter anamorphic or some wide angle lenses.
Thanks for this great review! really what i was looking for - greatly made - no fuss and a lot of footage and content to see for yourself. great work
Thanks for watching!
it's so great review! We need much more reviews like this! Thank you
Thanks for watching!
I have settled on the Reeflex-G Series and Beastrgip.
Nice choices. :)
Which one is best for 14 pro ?
Really any of these would work fine, just depends on what ecosystem you want to use (and which case you prefer).
Excellent video. Very informative and helpful. Thorough too. Many thanks.
Are the reviewed lenses all suitable for an iPhone 11? Which telephoto is recommended for the 11?
@@iphoneographers so are you saying if used on the iPhone 11 the Moment M series is better than the Sandmarc, Reeflex etc in terms of image quality?
@Nispete No, just at the M-series work great with the older phones not the new ones.
Huge help! Thank you so much
How about anamorphic lens comparison?
That’s coming soon. 👍🏻
@@iphoneographers I'm using an s24 ultra, and never used external lenses/filters. Want to explore more and buy anamorphic and ND filters, total beginner in this area, what would you recommend?
At the end, the Iphone built-in lenses are the best of all.
They’re totally fine, but they’re limiting. That’s why external lenses can be helpful.
Great comparison! I'm really surprised that Moment and Freewell were among the worst performing lenses.
Me too! Moment watched this video and they’re sending me a new lens, so I will update it if it changes. They’re wondering if I got a bad one. I’m not sure on Freewell because all the other lenses work great. I’ll update the associated article when I have news. Thanks for watching!
Price ?
Thanks for the video 🔥
This should have way more view way more likes!!! Thank you...
Thanks for watching!
I think Moment and Beastgrip are the only 2 lenses which allows us to use third party filters
They are the easiest for sure, but you can adapt the Sandmarc ones though I have learned.
I wonder if the very large exit pupil of the Beastgrip lens will allow it to be more compatible with new iPhone cameras in the future.
will you be doing a video for the wide angle lenses because to me thats the most important one
I actually wasn’t going to because they all pretty much work well with all the phones, however there are differences in the various brands… So by popular demand I’ll probably do it now. :)
Just clapping and thanking 👏
Great video, thank you.
Nice test❤
Awesome & Thanks Sir :)
I owned Sandmarc lenses and their 58mm telephone can adapt Neewer 43-67mm step up ring for standard 67mm filters.
Hey mate, I just bought the beast cage for my iPhone XS Max, they said they don’t have m-mount plates. Do you know where I can get some or do I have to MacGyver one in 3D print?
Hi, thank you for such a great comparison.Just an addition to the reeflex lens. It also comes with a bag and a lens hood.
Yeah I literally just got those lenses and I inadvertently left that information out. I’m doing a full review of them soon and I’ll include that. Thanks for watching!
Спасибо большое за данное видео.
Be careful when buying the moment T series gold flare anamorphic lens I wouldn’t want you to crack it again like what happened with the 1st one the M series gold flare lens
😂 Yep!
it realy annoy me that some compagny does a case for all iphone model, but the other brand even Samsung, they are like '' hey here a little clamp to fit are pricey lenses. but we dont care''
even reeflex, their app is iOS on thier site
I've been eyeing getting lenses as a way to avoid buying a real camera for a while just to cut down on expense. Hope to see updated reviews someday for the 16 pro. So far it looks like Reeflex is the first to start making Iphone 16 moves with their upcoming tele lens, but the fact that they only have a plain black leather magsafe case is kindof a turnoff. Guess you gotta suffer for your art huh?
Be honest man, what’s your favorite lens brand?
The ones I use the most in my own work like short films etc. are Beastgrip. It’s not only because of the image quality, but I like how I can use bigger, traditional filters that I already own. To me that’s very important. And all their gear is super solid, especially their cage. But I don’t do travel kind of stuff and that wouldn’t work for it. So there you go. 😃
@@iphoneographers well that’s a good choice, I use moment lenses for filmmaking and travel
As i see reflex is the best.
ReeFlex are definitely good.
@@iphoneographers but what you recommend?…. I want the best. I cannot choose between “ Moment” or Beastgrip?
Proprietary lenses are a non-starter for me...
Why use an iPhone when there are smartphones with an inch matrix?
💙💙💙🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍👍
Freewell's world's best Telephoto?! More like World's worst telephoto!
Ha, yeah it’s not very good. I’m not sure if they’ve updated it yet or not but I’m pretty sure they intend to.
@@iphoneographers I’m sure they did, you never know, btw Freewell made their own cage for smartphones
I have the Freewell 1.7 tele. It's junk. Pure junk.
Yeah it’s really surprising because all the other lenses in their lineup are quite good. Definitely hoping they fix the issue soon, which I’ve been told they are…
