Putting an anamorphic lens on my iPhone 11 Pro Max with a DJI Osmo Mobile 3 and a few other things to make a build for my senior college project - gonna shoot a short film with it. Can’t wait to use it!
That’s gonna be a capable setup!!! It’s gonna be cool to see how many people think it’s not an iPhone. Good luck with the senior college project. I remember those days when I was graduate school. I don’t envy you haha. You got this! 🙌🙌

Mario Devon Visuals that’s so greatt. So for the lens, does it matter what phone? (Ex: different lens iphone 10 vs 11?) or you just have to buy the case for it?
You are an above average RUclips personality. You've got this more (and much better) than most and this is coming for a guy that almost literally NEVER posts RUclips comments. On Facebook (yeah, I'm old) I comment all the time but on RUclips... Not. Peace, I've subscribed, keep up the great work.

Thanks for your comment! And not sure what you mean by filter. I only used the anamorphic lens without any ND filters. But I have a video coming soon covering that topic!
Just found you through this video! Love how much detail is in the coloring and everything else! and you make sure you tell every detail there is to be told! Glad to be a new subscriber!

10:30 I was having trouble getting my phone with anamorphic lens to balance on my Osmo Mobile 3. It’s been awhile since I took them out, I will try again. I kept putting it in the middle and it kept falling over, now I see why. Do you use the Moment app or another program to squeeze the footage?
Sorry for the delay Michael! I have been able to balance the iPhone 11 Pro Max with the anamorphic lens and the filmmaker case. Also I have used this set up with the Biodegradable Thin Case. I’ll do a video showing how it’s done!
Finally a great review with the iPhone 11 and the Moment anamorphic lens. I was trying to find footage with people instead of bushes and trees. Nice job!
Haha! First off thanks so much for watching! And I 100% agree! Like, we are going to more than likely be shooting subjects with our cameras. So I think it's extremely important to test with people instead of objects. Thanks again!
Just purchased this lens👍🏻 I haven’t tried it yet. If you’re using the lens with a gimbal, are you supposed to shoot video with the lens app or the gimbal app?

Great stuff man 👌 keep up the content really nice, I’m sure you’ll grow your channel fast. Finally got an iPhone 11pro and jumped in on the moment case and lens so looking forward to trying it out when I go snowboarding in Austria next week! 😀
Thank you so much for watching! And thank you for your comment brother! And man you’re gonna love the quality coming out of the iPhone 11. Working on a “cinema” build for the iPhone haha
Mario, I’m replying to your email in which you said: “I meant to explain the point of this lens. Number 1: The quality of glass from this lens actually enhances the image. My team and I have shot video with and without it. The image quality is very much improved. Number 2. The software isn't throwing away the top or bottom. The lens actually squeezes the full image just like an anamorphic lens used on cinema cameras. Once the footage is desqueezed, you get the image from the FULL sensor along with the black bars on top and bottom.” First, quality of a lens is never improved by adding anything to it. Lens quality is measured with an MTF value (Modulation Transfer Function), sort of a goodness value, with 1.0 being the theoretical upper limit. A really good camera lens may have an MTF of 0.95. An inexpensive, 2-element anamorphic adapter may have an MTF of 0.8. The MTF of both used together is the product, 0.95 x 0.8 = 0.76, which is significantly lower than that the original camera lens. The way to measure the quality of a lens is with instruments on an optical bench, not subjectively. On your second point, yes, with an anamorphic adapter, you’re getting the full width of the sensor, as I said in my first comments to your video Read the last six words in your reply and you’ll see where you’re loosing resolution in the vertical direction, under the “black bars on top and bottom”.
The point of the lens is for the landscape cinematic look for your phone. It's not intended to be used vertically. So you have to keep intention in mind. Also, the image is absolutely improved. Many have tested the lens on various cameras. I've edited footage as low quality as a smartphone all the way up to a 6K cinema camera. It is visually better. Remove the math. Remove the measurements. If I simply use my eyes, I can see the value in having this lens if you want to add a little spice to your cinematic smartphone footage.
Elaine! Thank you so much for watching! And yes yes yes! Working on a discussion video today. Another Moment review. And I have a new gimbal to show you all. :)
That footage looks stunning!!! I'm shooting a home-made low-budget film using my iPhone and videos like yours are super helpful. Are you adding any color corrections or filters in post-production or is this straight out of the camera? Any post-production video cropping to remove vignetting? Please tell me what presets you use such as FPS and shutter speed, it would be of immense help!
I use the Moment app to dial in all of my settings. So FPS was either 24fps or 60fps. Shutter speed is using the 180 rule just as you would for a camera. Yes, the video is color corrected and graded. But it was very easy to do. No post crop or vignetting adjustments.
Haha during this quarantine I've cut it off and regrown it and repeat! Thank you bro! And slowly but surely things are growing. Thank you for your comment Tyler!
@@mariodevon_ I have held strong through out and grown it out haha, then got a nice clean line up and fade at my barber after things opened up. Much love from New Zealand!
Thanks for your content amigo! You really helped me decide to get K&F variable ND from your affiliate site. Question: is there a better way to de-squeeze anamorphic footage so you get maximum number of pixels???
@Mario Devon I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max and a DJi Osmo OM 4. However, when I use my phone with the Moment lenses and a filter, the OM 4 acts like it can’t support the weight, even with Moment’s counterweights. Is there anything that I could potentially be doing wrong or anything that you could recommend to possibly fix the issue? Thanks. Great video, by the way.
The Moment lens alone works well with the OM4. But once you add a filter, now you have take the OM4 a little over the weight it can support. I would recommend using a smartphone cage and putting it on a small gimbal like a Zhiyun Weebill S or Weebill Lab.
Listen I’m still in shock at how fast the channel is growing lol. And I didn’t think me creating with a smartphone would be the content that’s the most popular haha! Thank you so much!!
Thank you so much Hawaii! I think it's all dependent on taste. I personally love the look but I can understand if anyone feels it's a bit too much flare.
Dude what camera do you use for your video that looks nice and crisp! I gotta good feeling about this channel. I just hope he doesn’t give up. Keep up the good work!👍
Thank you so much bro!! I really appreciate it! And nope I don’t plan on giving up. I have about 6 videos in the pipeline that I am working on so more coming soon! And the camera in front of me is the Canon EOS R. Check out the full review also on my channel. The top down is the Canon M50
Hey Mike! sorry for my delay! do you mean without using lights?? The Moment app helps. Dialing in your settings as if you were using an actual camera will optimize the look of your footage.
I use the Moment App. I wanted to use everything Moment for this review. If there is a desqueeze function in Filmic Pro, then I am sure you can use the Anamorphic with that app.
hey brother, i just watched your video all the way from Jamaica. The quality was amazing. One question thou, what camera did you shoot the video with, was it a sony? I must say, it is crispy clean
Jason all the way from Jamaica! Thank you for watching bro! And I am using the Canon EOS R for the shots that are not from the phone. It’s always very very crispy video 😎
Do you experience any blurry during video or photos? Because mine doesn't look as sharp for some reason... Also, for iPhone 11 do you rotate the hole to the M, 1.33x or the V?
I use the M mount and yes you have to rotate the lens to have it attached. It sounds like you have to adjust your lens. Use the instructions manual that comes with the Anamorphic lens. Also, not sure why it’s not sharp but I’m gonna assume you need to make that adjustment first
GREAT Video. probably a dumb question, but why is vignetting BAD? I heavily use vignetting in post. My variable ND filter on my DSLR adds vignetting as well. I think it looks cool. Am I wrong? Anyone out there willing to explain to me why it's bad?
There isn't anything inherently bad with vignetting, and like you mentioned it can be used creatively to get a certain look in your image. On a technical level, it's bad because it's not an accurate representation of what the camera is recording.
Glad to see other people interacting in the comments! Sean is absolutely right! I personally do not like to use vignetting but vignetting can give you a retro look if that's what you want. My opinion?? If this is your style and you can own it, do it! The best ideas come from filmmakers breaking the rules. Good luck!
I remember watching a video once explaining how light flares/solar flares used to be the biggest filmmaker faux pas. Now, you see it in every major film.
Yeah, my phone fell off the bed with the Filmmaker Case and it cracked on three of the corners! I contacted them and they gave me a credit on the case towards their main Photo Case. I have a Pro Max too, and I need to see how to balance it on my Osmo Mobile 2.
Man I am so sorry!!! I tried my best to get this video up as soon as I got mine in the mail. Because I know people were ready to get this thing. But I can honestly say, go with the Photo Case if you're not using a gimbal much. It may be hard to balance if the gimbal is not as strong as the Osmo Mobile 3. Not sure about the Osmo Mobile 2 though. But the 3 is very strong. I have even balanced the iPhone 11 Pro Max with a Speck case on it....which is comparable to the Photo Case. Thanks for watching!!
I’ve been using the Movi for a few years but it’s now discontinued and I’m looking for the next best thing to recommend to folks who follow me. Question: is this the same setup you would recommend now that we have the iPhone 13 - or is there a better combination and gimbal out there now?
I understand! So question? Do you still have the instructions manual with the tool attached to the lens bag? If so, you have to adjust the lens for the vignetting. It’s really simple. At the end of this video, I tell you all to keep that manual. You neeeeed it haha. Let me know if you have any other questions
Awesome!! I was able to figure it out. The vignetting ended up going away. And yes that small tool is very important as well, super important to hold on to those things it comes with. Thank you so so much!! I really appreciate it! For anyone else with this issue, try doing this! ^^
This is the Filmmaker Case but that case was so easy to break. Moment has since taken it off their site which i commend them for it. I now mainly use the Biodegradable Thin Case. Very light and actually protects your phone
I just got a Pro Max and came here to watch your review of the anamorphic lens by Moment. Found out you have an Osmo 3 like me, now I know my Osmo can handle the case and lens. Now I’m more likely to pull the trigger on the lens/case. Have you tried using the 58mm lens by Moment with your Osmo? Great video as well keep up the good work
Thank you so much for watching Will! And also thank you for your comment! And I have mounted the 58mm telephoto lens to the Osmo Mobile 3. This lens gives me a little bit of bokeh. So if I am not using my real camera, I'll use this lens if I am looking for some separation.
Do you use counterweight for use iphone 11 pro max with anamorphic lens on osmo mobile 3 ? Because some people says without counterweight, the Osmo was having trouble balancing, and was almost impossible to use without overworking the motors.
Hi Romain! Thanks for watching man! And thanks for your comment! So with the iPhone 11 Pro Max and the Filmmakers Case with the Anamorphic, no I did not need to use a counterweight. Worked perfectly. After shooting with this combo for an hour, I still had nearly full battery.
The Pedro Show DOPE! It’s not enough vlogging going on around here so I hope more people like you and I start to get it going. Good luck with your vlog bro!!!
Haha thank you for watching! Glad I could help! And yes that’s still not a cheap camera even with the A7RIV out! 😂 if you have one of the newer phone cameras, this will hold its own until your get your camera is
Hey Mario, thanks a lot for the great value! Did you use the Osmo and the lens with the iPhone 11 pro or the iPhone 11 pro max for this video? Thanks again for your awesome content- Alejandro
I absolutely used the Osmo during the day time shots with Reyna. Using the Filmmaker Case it worked without any issues. I’ll be using the Thin Case soon to compare as it is a more durable lightweight case
I found that I needed a little extra weight to balance my IPhone 11 with the Moment lenses. I found a weight kit on Amazon that is cheap and effective that screws into the threaded port on the Osmo Mobile 3 phone clamp and adds only 60 grams to the loading . This was necessary because the side buttons were in danger of being compressed by the phone clamp.and needed a little clearance.
Oh wow! That actually is a good problem to have. It’s better to need more weight than for the Osmo to be too heavy. That just means you can build onto your phone with things like mounts and filters. Dope brother!
I bought an Ulanzi Anamorphic lens and a Moment case for my Galaxy S8+. Is their a conversion piece that will allow my Ulanzi lens to fit the Moment case?
The only way there would be a conversion is for Ulanzi to create a mount for the Moment case. Which I don’t see them doing considering that’s a direct competitor. Your best bet is to buy Moment accessories for your Moment case
Why go to the trouble and expense of using an anamorphic lens, which can twist and warp the image, when you could use a wide-angle adapter, and crop the top and bottom for the anamorphic aspect ratio? In either situation, you’re getting the full horizontal resolution of the camera, and software is throwing away the top and bottom to give you the wide/short aspect ratio.
Steve sorry for my delay as I meant to explain the point of this lens. Number 1: The quality of glass from this lens actually enhances the image. My team and I have shot video with and without it. The image quality is very much improved. Number 2. The software isn't throwing away the top or bottom. The lens actually squeezes the full image just like an anamorphic lens used on cinema cameras. Once the footage is desqueezed, you get the image from the FULL sensor along with the black bars on top and bottom.
there is wobble in some shots that makes them unusable , I've see this same effect in some other footage with this adapter. Is it caused by the OIS on the iPhone while using the gimbal, or is the anamorphic lens itself wobbling?
If you’re talking about the night shots, my bag was full with the EOS R and A7III with accessories. So I didn’t use the gimbal at all. The only time I used the Osmo Mobile 3 was during the daytime sequence
Let's give our iPhone filmmaking a little MICHAEL BAY vibe!
Mario Devon Visuals I have to tell you. Moo dogs is better.

Yes I purchased everything in the video. I don’t have the audience to get free gear yet. But working on it!

King Blueprint 4K 24! For my work, I would neeevvver shoot 30fps. The client would have to request it lol

Mate you and I have big beards and both have Moment gear thats a insta-sub! Also 830 subs? Mate with this quality you'll smash it!
This comment aged well
Thanks for your content amigo!
Love your channel, my friend! I'm subscribed and ready for more. Keep looking around!
thank you so much Scott!!!
You went from 60 subs, to over 700 in 4 months and I’m not surprised! Great video. Got a sub from me!
Listen I’m still in shock at how fast the channel is growing lol. And I didn’t think me creating with a smartphone would be the content that’s the most popular haha! Thank you so much!!
Video quality is awesome bro - subbed!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it bro!! 🙌
Great video brother man keep them coming
My brother! Thank you so much for the views, comments, and support!
Awesome video, man really appreciate you making this
And thank you for watching!!
Very enjoyable show. But I am feeling that the Moment anamorphic flare is a bit too prominent. Moondog's seem more subtle? Comments?
Thank you so much Hawaii! I think it's all dependent on taste. I personally love the look but I can understand if anyone feels it's a bit too much flare.
Hey man nice vid! Did you record the videos above in 4k or HQ mode when you use the anarmophic lens for your iphone?
Thank you so much bro! I record everything on my iPhone in 4K. Gives you the best cinematic quality
subbed, because I like your energy! :D
Man that means so much! Thank you so much Arnold!!
That’s cool mario, makes me want to make more videos!
Keep it up mate ✌️
Join me on RUclips!! Make some videos!! Haha! Thank you for your comment!
You need some much more Subscribers! Awesome!
Thank you so much for watching! And just started this RUclipsr life. So hopefully we will get there!
Can u review Ulanzi anamorphic mobile lens?
I look into getting one and all the things it takes to use it properly with the iPhone 11. Thanks for your comment!
That peter mckinnon impersonation though 😂
Haha it was still funny for me even while editing the video
I loved your review man. All the best.
Thank you so much Taufique!!
And you got one more subscriber 👊
Man thank you so much!!! 🙌🙏🙏 much appreciated!
how do you get such crisp footage on iphone with using lights
Hey Mike! sorry for my delay! do you mean without using lights?? The Moment app helps. Dialing in your settings as if you were using an actual camera will optimize the look of your footage.
Great video 🤙🏽
Nice channel, I like your energy :)
Thank you so much Eugenio!
Can you used gimball (osmo mobile 3) with moment lens and case ? And do you use filmic pro app or moment app pro ?
I use the Moment App. I wanted to use everything Moment for this review. If there is a desqueeze function in Filmic Pro, then I am sure you can use the Anamorphic with that app.
Hello from Turkey ! Nice job !
hey brother, i just watched your video all the way from Jamaica.
Great content and review quality! Really enjoyed watching your review. Keep it up!
Thank you so much!! More Moment content coming very soon!
@@mariodevon_ Jyeah! Can't wait! Waiting for my Moment lenses to arrive!
Well said
@@seankirby6727 Gotcha! Thanks for the thoughtful reply.
You should continue with this channel playa
Man I appreciate it!!!! I plan on keeping this going for sure! I have 4 new videos in the works as I type!
What’s up Mario!?
What uuuuup!!!
I am having trouble with the lens on the iPhone 11 Pro Max. There is so much vignette on the edges. Any tips for how to get rid of that?
I understand! So question? Do you still have the instructions manual with the tool attached to the lens bag? If so, you have to adjust the lens for the vignetting. It’s really simple. At the end of this video, I tell you all to keep that manual. You neeeeed it haha. Let me know if you have any other questions
Awesome!! I was able to figure it out. The vignetting ended up going away. And yes that small tool is very important as well, super important to hold on to those things it comes with. Thank you so so much!! I really appreciate it! For anyone else with this issue, try doing this! ^^
So good video!!!
Thank you!!
Is that the thin case or the regular case? I have the same set up and gimbal and I am thinking of getting into moment lenses
This is the Filmmaker Case but that case was so easy to break. Moment has since taken it off their site which i commend them for it. I now mainly use the Biodegradable Thin Case. Very light and actually protects your phone
Proud of those guns man
Haha thank you so much Danielle!
Great video Mario!
Jacob!! Thanks so much brother!!
Did you use a special app on your phone or is it raw footage from phone into post
I used the Moment Pro Camera app just to dial in my settings like shutter speed for 24fps. From there, it was edited in Premiere Pro
Thanks Mario I appreciate you taking the time to answer your vids are awesome
Great video!
Thank you so much Danny!!
Since when did the hulk start doing reviews? Damn homie! LOL great review. Just purchased the case and iphone.
Hahaha! Busted out laughing as soon as I read it! Thank you so much Rudy
Nashville ! I’m just starting my vlog career and boom come across this.
The Pedro Show DOPE! It’s not enough vlogging going on around here so I hope more people like you and I start to get it going. Good luck with your vlog bro!!!
Thanks for the entertainingly honest review. Heavily considering this, as I can't justify a Sony a7r3 at the moment😂😂😂. Keep grinding. I'm subbing💪🏾
Beautiful model 😉
Thank you! She's one of my favs to work with. More to come with Reyna!
Excellent content. You were made for this haha.
Haha thank you so much! Still getting the hang of it but man that means so much!
Does it fit the regular iPhone 11
this case is now discontinued but they have other cases specifically for the iPhone 11
Sick shades!!
What shades are those??
Haha thanks for noticing bro! They are actually by a company called Quay Australia
there is wobble in some shots that makes them unusable , I've see this same effect in some other footage with this adapter.
Nice videos man
Thank you Tiago!!
