love seeing her sleep omg. those dreams are the cutest. i swear there is nothing more rewarding and fun as the human friend to an animal as watching them have a really intense dream and get all into it. i wonder if my cats ever catch ME having a crazy dream lol.
Aw, sweet sleepy Gracie, with that element of fear underneath the trust and relaxation. We all wish we could cuddle her on our laps and tell her it's all right
I don’t understand why Gracie would prefer to eat sand than lie on her side. lol. You have done amazing work with her. It brings me back to the day you first met this troubled, frightened 4 yr old. I really loved this video. Getting closeups of their faces when sleeping and just enjoying the feeling that I’m there, too. Thank you.
This reminds me of the time I went out to the paddock at night to check on my yearling colt. He was sleeping like Gracie with his legs tucked underneath him. What was so neat was that his pasture buddy who was also a yearling was sleeping exactly like him with his head about two feet away next to my colt's head. They looked like two bookends side by side. As I approached the fence to get a closer look it woke them up and startled them. I quickly backed away so they wouldn't get up. They looked so cute together.
There is something so mesmerizing about watching such big and powerful animals be so calm and trusting with their surroundings... warms my heart every time!
One of your best videos yet! I appreciate it the peaceful narration and comforting feeling you emit to allow your horses to relax and feel safe...such a calming video. Thank you.
Thank you Graeme! 😎 Us horse people are a special kind of weird proven by camera rolls full of oddities… poo, hooves, facial expressions, sleepy times, random shenanigans and soooo many butts🤣
Gracie pinning her ears at gravitation before falling asleep must be the most adorable, funny and peaceful thing that I've seen in about a month. I bet that she tries to bite and kick the old relentless hag in her dreams as well :D
I truly enjoyed this video. Gracie fighting her sleep along with your commentary 😂 I do wonder what she's dreaming about, hopefully, playing with her besties. Luke said, "I'm too old to fight my sleep...I'm out!" 💤💤💤 Thanks for sharing Graeme
I like that little snore-y sound Gracie was making. When Roni came over it probably looked like it was naptime for the three of you to him. It seems like a horse's head would be awfully heavy to prop up. I am amazed at how they do that.
What a treat, watching Gracie sleeping. It's amazing how far she has come since you rescued her, proves how well your methods work with kindness and patience. Just what I needed after a stressful day at work, thankyou for sharing
Knowing where Gracie started to where she is now is so amazing. She fought hard letting go that last little bit but she finally got there. If someone had told me I'd be entirely invested and rooting for a horse to lay flat for a nap today, I would have told them they were delusional. Who knew, lol! But I'm all the better for it 😊😊😊😊😊😊
I'm so grateful you took Gracie in those years ago so she can lead the peaceful life she deserves. Thank you, Graeme. I can't remember his name right now, but he is a pinto. I just remember he used to love to wake up Gracie if he saw her asleep.
How wonderful! ❤ Her neck muscles are amazing. She snorkels just like my husband. I love it. Animal behavior is so fascinating. Thank you for sharing. I love learning about horse behavior. Please keep it sharing.❤
This is so doggone funny that you are narrating Gracie’s attempt to actually fully give in to sleep! Who but you would teach us about this! Thanks -it breaks up my busy day for sure!
True I guess, I find everything horses do to be interesting and these are things I think that can only improve a relationship with a horse. It's good for everybody!
She is a beautiful mare, so dainty and delicate looking with her legs tucked up to nap. We know she is a powerhouse when she wants to be and so quick in her movements. She seems to have a lot more good days than when I first started watching. Some might be due to maturity (you would know better than me), but I am sure the majority of her improvement is due to your patient teaching and love and also Roni's influence. He seems to be her "chill pill".
I was thinking on this and I think it also has to do with her just getting older, it helps that she is surrounded with chill horses too I think. Slowly but surely becoming a bit calmer and level headed.
I wish I could be a member at this time I can’t. But I totally enjoyed being with you today watching Gracie and I could watch her for hours on end any of them. If I could be around horses, I could die and be happy before the death and then happy with the Lord later, but you know, I mean, I hope, thank you thank you for this
I remember your walks with Sweet Gracie 😮. You were so so good with Her little anxious heart . Now here She is living the life of a Blessed Horse ! Just as all of your Horses are doing . OMG I love this sleepy time with Horses . You are my kind of Horse Trainer ! Love to , Laura 💜Bear
YOU'RE SO KIND AND GENTLE WITH YOUR 🛟 RESCUE HORSES‼️🐴🐎 I WISH I COULD BE RESCUED AND LIVE A PEACEFUL LIFE THAT GOD MEANT FOR ME‼️...GRACIE, YOU ARE BLESSED‼️💜🐴💜🐎💜🤓🫶🏽🙋🏽🔥🙏🏽👑✝️📖🔥🕊️
It's a common question actually, lying down a horse will generally get up to a couple of hours a day, they doze a lot though standing up, which can be up to maybe 6 hours a day I think.
The fact that Gracie was able to perceive the fly on her muzzle, in spite of being asleep, shows just how sensitive a horse's skin is. People that 'pat' racehorses hard, after they've won a race, would do well to remember that. It must feel like a slap.
Do your horses lay down to sleep at night? I'm just wondering whether, as prey animals, they feel safe enough to lay down and fall asleep when it's dark.
Out of curiosity, would you be able to have any of your horses lay their head on your lap while they rest? And if so, do you see that as beneficial or detrimental for building trust with the horse?
I probably could but I imagine it's not comfortable at all as it's not how they are built. Try sleeping with your head half on a hard pillow. Without the support for the neck too, it's uncomfortable. I don't think people should do it overall but I don't see any real harm, a horse can choose to get up. It's probably the safest place to be around a horse too if you're going to sit with them while they lie down as they have to lift their head first. Amazingly you can hold a horse down on the ground too if you can keep their head down (common method to keep a horse down, or cow or sheep etc). Probably super scary for them though....
@@StableHorseTraining Thank you for your answer. I honestly haven't thought about it being comfortable for the horse or not, I just assumed due to their longer neck that it wouldn't be that problematic. I'm looking into things to do with a horse apart from exercise to deepen our bond / build trust :)
There's a great RUclips channel from a lady with a horse called Squidward. She calls the lying flat sleeping "carcassing" because the neighbours have called her several times to say they saw her horse laid out and thought she might be dead. It's so great when horses - prey animals - feel so comfortable that they can just carcass in the middle of a field.
Horses take about an hour nap on their sides. It is dangerous to linger on their sides because of their weight, which could crush their organs. So, that is why they spend more time resting on their sternum or standing. Neat fact: Their ligaments are designed to lock in place so they won’t collapse while standing/sleeping on their feet.
For this first item, that's an old wives tale. Plenty of horse sleep for extended times lying down. Nothing dangerous about it at all. They spend more time on their stomach because it's easier to be alert and get up from that position than a full lie down. For the second item, it's kinda true. The ligament can hook over the patella (bone) which causes it to "lock" in to place to help the horse just stand there. Interesting stuff for sure.
love seeing her sleep omg. those dreams are the cutest. i swear there is nothing more rewarding and fun as the human friend to an animal as watching them have a really intense dream and get all into it. i wonder if my cats ever catch ME having a crazy dream lol.
Very peaceful watching sleepy horses. 🥰
That's me, sitting at my desk after lunch. 😉
😅😊
There is just something special about being able to sit near a sleeping horse. The level of trust and safety cannot be underrated.
Aw, sweet sleepy Gracie, with that element of fear underneath the trust and relaxation. We all wish we could cuddle her on our laps and tell her it's all right
I could watch sleepy horses all day. ❤❤❤
Wow, that's so cool, think back to how she was when you rescued her. Also her lovely feet now 😊
Lukes breath at the end melted my heart. Well they all do.
Gives a whole new meaning to "Another One Bites the Dust". Literally, biting the dust in her slumber!!
It's so nice to her so relaxed and calm!

Gracie is a beautiful horse even when sleepy! Sweet dreams Gracie!
How sweet is this ?!! I loved being with my horses while they would sleep.❤
and your voice is soothing im even falling asleep too lol
No matter what Gracie does, she is beautiful ❤ Just love her

What a change from the reactive, squealing and kicking horse she was when she first arrived. This change is all because of your care Graham.
Possibly! but I like to attribute it to the other horses here telling her to be quiet and relax :) and the amazing role models they are for her.
Love this. How sweet.
This was calming and therapeutic. Loved it. Could watch it for hours.
Now that's a bunch of happy horses. It's nice to see Gracie showing trust in you and her horsey friends!
Lovely to see how much she trusts you to be around her when she is vulnerable
That is a power nap. Now I'm getting sleepy. Véry relaxing. 😔
Sweet Gracie. Fiesty even in her sleep.😊❤
It’s the neatest thing ever. Watching horses sleep are so relaxing ☺
One of your best videos yet! I appreciate it the peaceful narration and comforting feeling you emit to allow your horses to relax and feel safe...such a calming video. Thank you.

It's always an honor when they sleep on the ground next to us. I`ve had wonderful moments this spring, even caught one on video and posted it here.
Thank you Graeme! 😎 Us horse people are a special kind of weird proven by camera rolls full of oddities… poo, hooves, facial expressions, sleepy times, random shenanigans and soooo many butts🤣

Beautiful, trusting sweet Gracie hit pay dirt when you brought her home, along with all the special quirks she decided to bring along just for fun 😁
this was so peaceful 😌 thank you for posting it
You're welcome 😊
I could watch this all day! Amazing to be part of this. The birdsong was gorgeous as well. Thank you!
I've never seen a horse settling down to sleep before.
It's fascinating, and relaxing.

horse heads are very heavy actually, I too am amazed they hold them up all the time.

Too cool and sweet and peaceful. I did in the past think that horses only slept standing up.
Ah Gracie, story of your life girl, you have to try so hard with everything, will always adore you ❤
What a precious gift she is!

I could watch them sleep all day. So good to see her relax and fine comfort and security in your voice.
Thank you!
My cat likes to nap outside in summer & I always check if he is breathing!
Amazing insight. Excellent content. Thanks so much Graeme! Gracie is very cute, Luke is super sweet! I could watch horses sleeping all day long!
Just big dogs. I love all the sounds they make in their sleep! Great video, made me feel better.

After watching these guys fall asleep I'm for sure gonna get the best snore in tonight thanks !
Seems like they were up all-night partying.
Oh, that fly!!

Aweeee Gracie
Look at her neck muscles! Holding her head in place, I guess. Sweet to see her so relaxed.

Almost as if Luke wants you to "tuck him in"!
Soo relaxing thank you ❤❤❤
Gracie has become so trusty over the years😍 to sleep in the open without a buddy standing beside her as horses do.. She feels safe...
true, she has found some peace and quiet finally I think.
@@StableHorseTraining she is now entirely settled

Next video Graeme, you have to tell us what she's dreaming about 😊 ❤ from Scotland 🏴
Good question! Probably about kicking all the other horses around and sorting out where she wants them to be

Love this, thank you for sharing this experience with us!! ❤💤🐴
Just beautiful ❤ thank you.
Absolutely fascinating! Thanks!
Thank you ! So very Beautiful and peacful
Gently pushing Luke over while measuring him seems to be the equine equivalent of a parent tucking a child into bed with a gentle kiss good night...
Sticking her nose in the sand just cracks me up.
She needs a pillow 🤣🤣🤣

Just a random question: How many hours of sleep do horses usually get in a 24 hour period?
It's a common question actually, lying down a horse will generally get up to a couple of hours a day, they doze a lot though standing up, which can be up to maybe 6 hours a day I think.

Absolutely! Even when a fly will land on their back you will notice their skin twitch to shake it off, as you said, they are quite sensitive.
I missed a few videos, what happen to Yoka?
She left: ruclips.net/video/53_JDSRHigI/видео.html

Yes
Will you be creating a meadow for them At the back of the arena?
trying... but we just don't have a good climate for it. See this video: ruclips.net/video/KlQQPQT8Aas/видео.html

if you've ever experienced a dead horse, especially one you care about, you'd literally never say this. Morbid....
Finally…💤💤😊
Lol awsome❤
What is with her neck? It looks really squished or bunched up somehow. I guess it is her neck automatically keeping her head up while she sleeps.
Ya, she's just bending it normal
