Toby, you just gave me a ray of hope and light after we lost our most precious Jeff Beck. I worked a little on his 2000 album You Had It Coming and spent some precious moments with him. As a guitarist myself, all I can say is this is beautifully performed, and I can see it rolls off you like water off a duck’s back. Just wonderful.
Wonderful job Toby. I knew Jeff a long time ago back in the "Wired" days, and I know he'd be really chuffed to see someone keeping his chops alive. Keep it up, you're special.
I had to ask this and I don't mean to offend you... Were you a child prodigy?? I've been playing for over 50 years and I couldn't play at that level if my life depended on it. Hell, Jeff Beck Couldn't sit in your bedroom and replay that any better than you!!! Please make music your life, no matter what it takes... we have enough doctors and engineers... God Bless...
Bollocks - that song is all about guitar prowess - the only effect is a reverb and delay. I know exactly how to play it, but I can't get even close to this standard. (Incidentally, I'm an engineer and a guitarist - maybe if I'd spent less time engineering I could play guitar this well.)
Toby, you nailed it. Well done. Not only did you get all those “Beckish” nuances but you even added your flair and flourishes at the end. Bravo, young man. Bravo 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Well done young man you give me hope for the next generation of guitar virtuoso's being able to fallow in the Jeff Beck style of music and guitar playing.
Returned to hear you again, Toby. You are a truly gifted musician. Thank you for posting this. A whole lot of people should come here to feel your playing. I wish I knew how to tell the world about you.
Thankyou! It's the vintage 6-srew trem.. It's set up with 2 springs, at angle that allows a 3 semi-tone pullback on the G string. I could be wrong, but I think jeff Beck can pull up 3 semitones plus room for some vibrato (3 and a half semitones?!) I think his 2-point trem is floating AND slightly at an angle, but I can't be sure. For the sound, I played around with GuitarRig4,.. it's basically an over driven tone with reverb/delay and a slight mid range boost...
OH WOW 😃, THAT WAS AWESOME, IT REALLY WAS 👍. I'VE ONLY JUST STUMBLED UPON YOUR VIDEO TOBY &, IT WAS POSTED 8yrs AGO TOO 😲. SO COME ON Mr WONDERFUL, LET'S HEAR WHAT OTHER STUFF YOU HAVE TO OFFER 👌.
Jeff has been playing a Jeff Beck signature fender Stratocaster guitar that has a 2 point tremolo you can’t say it’s the 6 point tremolo on the guitar this dude can play!!!don’t get me wrong you still need a floating tremolo but this guy has the gift! Well done mate
And Jeff had a clever string choice,,he put a heavier low E on which increases the tension on the trem which would allow you to angle the bridge more forward at concert pitch thereby increasing the pull up range .
Dear Toby, can you explain why you used 2 springs instead of 3? And are they parallel to each other or in a triangle position? Thanks for this beautiful piece.
I play the guitar for the last 40 years and I just know that this is one of the most difficult songs to play. And you nailed it! Tone, feel, clarity, personality... It's all there. And you played it with no difficulty at all - made it look very simple. That's the way to go!! Congratulations. Jeff is the best of all.
you can teach people to play guitar, you cant teach them the feel, you have it in abundance Toby, a pleasure to watch and listen to, keep up the good work..
Dude, that was awesome. Not only do you nail it but you threw some flare of your own that I think JB would would be proud to hear. Anyone can figure out note-for-note covers, but it takes real musicality and inspiration to make a song your own. You’re well on your way to greatness, dude👍🤘🏻
It's good to know that ANYONE can figure out note-for-note covers, let me know when you re ready to release YOUR new album of note for note JB covers, I'll be the first one in line to buy it, unless I'm busy making MY new album of note for note covers of Jeff and Jimi tunes! btw, Great job, Toby!
Awesome dude! You make it look as easy as Jeff in regards to the tremolo bar work. I'm so glad to see a young guitarist listening to the right guitar players.
Maybe the beautiful piece Jeff ever wrote. It reaches into my soul. I have been working on it for 5 years and still am not that good. Great job Toby. Very inspirational!
@@gitaaa7740 I can’t recall where I read the interview, but Beck said that he and Tony messed around in the studio improvising to create it. And, that it was originally edited together from snippets of that improv session for the album, which he subsequently learned to play as a single performance.
NICE ONE TOBY 😃, THAT WAS BRILLIANT 👍. I'VE JUST TURNED '60' THIS YEAR & HAVE TAKEN MY PENSION POT 👌, A FENDER STRAT IS #1 ON MY LIST OF WANTED GUITARS 🎸. THOUGH, I WON'T BE ABLE TO PLAY IT LIKE YOURSELF & JEFF 😕.
Probably the best cover of any song on any instrument here on RUclips especially when taking into account the crushingly sad news we all got this past week. RIP Jeff Beck.
Beautiful song that I've played for decades. Great job. Great technique, and tone. Jeff Beck is a great guitarist to emulate into your guitar vocabulary, and this is a Great example of a song we guitarist can go back to ten years later and still learn from.
Big Jeff Beck fan here saw him live in the early 90s with SRV & drummer Terry Bozzio they played every cut off guitar shop absolutely phenomenal drummer! This was a most excellent rendition of this song💙
I was thinking of getting a roller nut, but my MiM Strat has a slightly narrower neck than the US-width roller nut :( I think the problem with my strat is with the bridge.. either a new 6-screw is needed, or an entire 2-point upgrade! The pickups are stock vintage noiseless.. almost like the Jeff Beck noiseless but a bit weaker, I think.. I just run it through GuitarRig4 and mess about with amp/pedal settings until it kinda sounds right!
I truly hope Jeff saw this.
Came back to listen again. You nailed it
Amazing! I’ve never heard any guitarist come close to sounding like Jeff! Bravo!
Toby, you just gave me a ray of hope and light after we lost our most precious Jeff Beck. I worked a little on his 2000 album You Had It Coming and spent some precious moments with him. Dam!
I’m speechless!!
That’s the best I’ve witnessed to anyone close to being Beck.
Wow!

Wow !!🙏
Beautiful, Toby.
Wow . 😮 can’t believe he has gone . You did him proud.

the devil cried Uncalled for. A level of respect for the man's compliment would have sufficed.
Every time i listen to this i cry, just beautiful.

Good job
Maybe it's because of his hair 😐
I didn't know what to expect beforehand,
but man,
Jeff would be smiling...
Great!
beautiful beyond words

Hey Toby... just beautiful. Thank you.
Well done young man you give me hope for the next generation of guitar virtuoso's being able to fallow in the Jeff Beck style of music and guitar playing.
Very, very nice job. It's unbelievable. Perfectly reproducing his tone/pitch movement.
He's only playing over the recording..you wouldn't get acoustics like that in your bedroom..
Beautiful, well done.
Excellent Toby!... Thank you my blood brother.. 👍 JB approved... 👍
MY FAVORITE JEFF BECK TUNE OF ALL TIME RIP BROTHER 10-12-24
Simply amazing

I think Tony Hymas wrote the piece. He is the keyboard player.
