    1st Q : ans. is option (d) Fe3O4 and NiFe2O4 are inverse spinels.
    2nd Q : ans. is option (c) normal spinel with total CFSE -24 Dq.

    Sir in Gate 2012 one question was asking from cfse i.e
    Co3O4,Fe3O4,Mn3O4 which one is the inverse spinel structure...

      For 1cr III youll get -12 but here 2 cr are there so 12 *2 = 24

    M(Al2O4) M= Fe,Co,Ni,Zn ??? How these are normal spinels??

      These are exceptional cases where Al+3 has a strong affinity towards oh voids.
      So they will be Normal Spinel always.

    how can you compare Fe3+ and Zn2+ size along the period. As size of 3+ is always smaller than 2+.

      Or u can think in this way (which i found helpful in solving such questions) ..
      Higher O.S will have more C.N.
      Here ... Fe = +3 (so it can be in octahedral)
      Zn2+ can be in tetrahedral.
      Therefore :- Normal spinel.

    In last question the total cfsc is -12 Delta. But in option it is not there ,so suggest the correct answer.

      If you find the cfse of cr in +3 you will get -12, but their r 2 cr present in +3 state therefore u will get-24 Dq

      first prefer to fill t2g then go to eg orbitals with weak field ligands
