- Thundercat Performs "Them Changes" with Jon Batiste & Stay Human
Live on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert
i remastered the audio a little since it was pretty quiet in the original - Видеоклипы
Man has 6 string bass, a bass and tuba.
BASS HEAVY
Exactly. I was thinking it was gonna be overkill. But it wasn't.
YES LAWD!!
Yup.
he uses his more like a guitar though
@@hasbullabelgianfanpage i would say like a synth
That tambourine guy has more energy than everyone in the audience combined
Lol. Yes. :)
John Lampley is the ultimate hype man.
You should hear him play with Cory Wong and The Wongnotes
Hell of a trumpeteer
🤣
I think the audience took Thundercat singing "nobody move" too seriously. *HOW ARE THEY NOT BOPPIN TO THIS HEAT??*
Stiffs!!!!!
they're afraid.
Wouldn't the floor manager have asked them to chill so the band can sound its best for TV?
It is overrated music. "One thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain!"
@@francmittelo6731 what?
The band looks like when you get a bunch of randoms on your team in COD, but y'all fucking crush it.
Hey Cowboy, you play drums? Cute girl, grab this guitar. You, guy, I like your energy, here's a tambourine.
Bass player? We’ve already got one, but fuck it. Tuba? Sure, bring it.
This is best description of a band I have seen. Haha
💀💀💀
gg
I don't think anyone's tambourined so hard before...
I only revisit this video for the tambourine man 😂
My first thought exactly
NIN did a show with Gary Neumann in London. Take a look at Trent Reznor in *that* one....
Ya'll should see tambourine guy from post modern jukebox
He looks stupid
I did something right. Ive come full circle. I used to give my sons music to listen to and recently my oldest put me onto Thundercat.
😁💙🙏💙😁
That’s the way to follow. Sharing art through generations one way or another is gold, is knowledge and culture. I have a dad like you, that’s a blessing 🙏🏻
what a beautiful story
Raise 'em right. Well done.
You love to see it
This man once again proving why he deserves the signature bass he's holding that Ibanez made for him
It really is
That lick at 2:08 made my ears cum
It has the largest pickup I've ever seen! 😅
3:43 !! Especially
Skill wise definitely, he's got mad chops, especially cosidering the singing along with it. Only the sound he's using for his bass gives me a huge headache 😅
Everyone was astounding but Jon was doing some insane stuff on his keys, he was was a perfect counter to Thundercat’s bass
ok idiot lolol
@@RobertELee420 says the idiot
Jon was burning up the keyboard!!!!! Lots of of intricate funky runs, and his bass synth groove is impeccable. Lots of that Jay Dilla rub groove in this song. The bass, drums, percussion notes all rub up against each other and create a lope feel.
Some Bernie Worrell kinda funk in thurr
It was biblical
This man really dressed like Chiaotzu for the late show, I knew I liked him.
Who are telling! Instant fan!
Love it.
Lol, for the show? have you seen this man's style overall? Just like Mono Neon he dresses like that, and he is awesome, check out his song " Thundercat - Tokyo" also Mono Neon is worth checking out if you like Bass, Colorful clothes and insane talent.
he dresses like that all the damn time lol
He’s dressed as a Dragon Ball character called Gohan
By the time you hear the next pop the funk shall be within you.
*gunshot
aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh
Now if I give you fownk you gonna take it
We want the funk 😩
King kunta
I'm a musician (amateur my whole life) and this is a musicians song. I think that's why you can so easily see the joy in the other musicians faces while they jam with Thundercat. This song is just so good on so many different levels. But yeah the pure joy to jamming out to this song is so clearly visible on everyones' face.
If the crowd isnt feelin it , whats the point?
Playing is the point
The fact people enjoy listening is secondary
I guess the crowd took the song 🎵 literally.
Yes this is indeed that! Musicians love this and makes everyone want to go in the lab and cook.
Everything about this is fucking gangster. The chiaotzu outfit, that super underrated tuba and the ridiculous electric piano fills. You can tell the whole band was feeling that vibe.
Jesus Christ what a live performance.
That fit was the First thing that caught my eye..... cool ASF
Homie that's what Gohan wore in the saiyan saga before training with piccolo
@@Feedmeakitten me when i never watched anything that came before saiyan saga lol
@@Feedmeakitten colors are the other way around with gohan. this is chiaotzu's fit.
The band was having fun and getting down. Thundercat was great choice for musical guest. Whoever got him booked for show, I applaud them.
“Nobody moved” is so fitting. That crowd was dead.
how could they not dance? so dead! they had no idea how great a line-up there was on stage!
lmao yea. dumbass crowd lol
They have no idea what they're witnessing
Normie yups, they don’t get it
@@knowun pure top tier magic
0:17 Thundercat's beanie still has the security tag on LOL
It's for added style purposes
That's how you know it's FRESH AF. Lol
I about died. do you think he had to ask for it special like that, or did he find one with the tag still on at like a thrift store.
@@kerianpearson9796 or did he awkwardly tell the cashier he was going to steal that beanie straight to his/her face, and walked out the door?
Haha! Awesome catch!
I love the contrast of Thundercat's outfit with everyone else in the band. Also Tambourine man is giving us everything and I love it
He’s usually their trumpet player, and he’s the happiest man in the band consistently.
At 4:04 Jon Batiste immediately turns around to let the drummer know his fill was absolute 🔥. Drummer knows what's up and gives him a head nod like, "yeah, how about that?"
Thought this was gonna be referring to the fill at 3:57 and I was like who cares? Then he does the actual fill and my jaw dropped, what a power move
Came here to make this comment. That fill was nasty and right on point.
I saw the drummer at a little jazz show in CT.. he's mean on a tambourine solo too!
Hahaha that WAS 🔥
I wanna propose to the drummer just for that
the tambourine is killing me, he is so happy
my mans Jon Lampley!
I'd be that happy too if I was on stage with Thundercat
The stank face tho😂
1:59 when the band comes back in, tambourine and keyboard are FEELIN IT
IKR??!! He's a whole vibe ‼️🤣😂🤣
idk i feel like this performance speak a lot about how great thundercat is... the way jon batiste & stay human are just straight VIBING with his shit. i think it speaks a lot about your music when other skilled musicians love it.
he’s got the jacob collier effect
Jon is FEELING it. So is the tambourine man
Live music played by humans is back! I am so happy 😁
This the comment I was looking for. VIIIIIBING to his shit!!
1:52-2:01 that shit was so fucking cool when they all pause for just a second then play like perfectly on time i love this man. Live performance 10/10 and it seems like such a hard song to do live so even more props
and they come in at the same time, it’s so satisfying
Dude this whole band is vibing
Much respect to Maddie Rice, the guitarist you can barely see on the back of the stage here. Her playing is so good that you don’t hear it; you feel it. Her tone and volume lays in the mix in just the right way to support Thundercat and the rest of the band.
Dude, I caught a glimpse of her towards the end. She was laying it down the whole time!
She's outstanding!
right at the beginning it sounds especially nice
I was about to post this earlier absolutely supports and makes the jam flow so well.
and the multitalented Louis Cato laying down the foundation. You're right you feel that chemistry
Came here for Thundercat, stayed for the tambourine guy
Love that Tuba in the band. Very rare and unseen.
You might like Sons of Kemet! Shabaka Hutchings on sax, two drummers & tuba on their first two albums, incredible funky jazz :)
Batiste on keyboard is amazing, all the musicians sound great. Thundercat is a genius of base. This song it’s pure flow.
God I just love how happy people look when they’re jammin.
music is everything.
Yea! It made me smile to see how happy they all were.
6 string hollow body bass might be the coolest thing I’ve ever seen.
Fellow slapper
With 2 outputs one di I think, also it’s big on him and he’s big
6 string bass is just a guitar with extra steps 🤔
uncurbedthoughts I know, it doesn’t really make sense when you think about it. I think that’s why I like it so much
@@uncurbedthoughts not true B E A D G C
It's 3:42 am on a school night when I should be studying for my LSAT. I just watched this 10 times in a row. I regret nothing.
shout out to the guy in the back at 3:57 for being the only alive person in the crowd
One of thundercat’s greatest written songs of his career yet. What a performance!
Indeed!
I’ve looked at the lyrics for a lot of his songs and this one definitely was the best in my opinion
If this is his best, im glad ive never heard of him.
@@RobertELee420 That was unnecessary. Let's see you do better.
@@mikem4481 Been around about a decade, came up with Mac Miller and Flying Lotus' generation!
Him using his normal singing voice makes it sound like he's doing karaoke of his own song
That plus the slightly different instrumental really seals the effect.
And the fact that it's ~5bpm slower, making it sound like a way too talented high school band doing a cover.
I think it's more about sound engineering. Every instrument in center.
Get Michael Dunlap on keys if you want to be better.
I'm a 63 year old Old Hippie and I love music this guy here just got my attention and I absolutely love him ❤️❤️
This old school music in a new day. These lads don't nothing about that.
1:57 That beat drop hits hard, even for professional musicians.
It’s the magic of not playing on the 1.
Especially for professional
they suddenly broke a knee
nah, and they nailed it

these people are not ready for this man...he's literally the best out right now...
Mononeon: am i a joke to you?
@@jjeshop come on man, music aint no competition

THESE PEOPLE!?
That's got to be one of the nastiest base lines/harmonies I've ever heard. That groove felt like a sun-kissed black hole, warm and gentle with imperceptible depth. That percussion was crispier than twice-fried hasbrowns too. I almost stood up at my desk and started dancing.
love how much his whole crews feeling the funk... sick performance
3:42 he plays that run like it was nothing
Ikr that was impressive.
Bruh what scale is that
Lol he had to answer back to Jon's solo with a swift, fell swoop
@@ranggasaktibudiputra1547 all of them

I could hear this song in 40 different versions and it slaps every damn time
I get a wonderful amount of joy watching how happy all the musicians are while playing this tune.
I listened to this video 20 times. And it keeps getting better every time I see it. Thun-Der-CAT!!!!
How Jon plays the song like he owns it, is amazing.
I wasn't ready
THUNDERCAT giving Jon Batiste the Miles Davis look at 3:12 lol
Hahaha, yeah feels like it
He wanted the solo lolooooll
I've had the pleasure of seeing Thundercat play live twice to date.
Amazing talent. Amazing man.
The tambourine guy is really happy to be there.
Thundercat made me want a 6 string bass for the first time in my life. 😂
i got a 6 string but had to sell it. it was the best.
Squier bass VI
@@mistercath are they much harder to pick up than a regular bass?
@@Selectcopyy i mean if you play guitar it's not that hard at all. i was a guitarist that got a 6 string bass tuned like a baritone guitar (B E A D Gb B)

no lie, this is a band favorite. i've never seen a live band who didn't lose their shit playing this song. it's the perfect skeleton to a master jam session
Hearing Thundercat sing with such ease never ceases to amaze me... and then, just like that 3:43 - Full circle virtuoso, kudos!
Shout-out Tuba guy he plays so well that he just fits right in, you almost don't notice him because he is that smooth and blending in with the 2 bass's
3:30 Jon back handed that solo baby

It should be illegal to be this adorable and this funky at the same time 🔥🔥🔥
I remember when this was only on SoundCloud. How far the man has came
Jon Batiste & Band + Thundercat - thats what I call synergy
Dude looks back to make sure everybody's on queue for the ending. Not to worry, you're in good hands with Jon at the helm. Tight as a mouse's ear.
Batiste is legend.
Well they are all professional and the lead decides when to conclude or bridge etc. It's live.
Christ... that bass fill at 2:08
Speedy fingerrs
Lost my shit when I first heard it, fucking crazy
Like John Entwistle
Playing rhythm and melody and another polyrhythm underneath. And singing lead. Lol. Thats just unteachable. Incredible musician.
No one can ever talk smack about bass players not playing hard phrases, the man’s bass guitar was smoking from that fire performance 🔥
01:58 that feel
Lol look at the tambourine player then
So relaxing 🔥💯
I love the tribute to footsteps in the dark here.. no other backbeat could do justice to the most epic bassline ever composed in modern musical history. Go Thundercat!!
Why have I never heard this before?!?!? This deserves a Grammy, Emmy, Oscar and restraining order ASAP
The tuba adds so much character to the bass. Love it.
this performance is so electric! I LOVE seeing musicians just having the best time when they play together, look at all those smiles and bops. a fine group of musicians having an amazing time making beautiful magic together.
Bro it's crazy how much soul the whole band has they all feel the song equally adds to the experience
Come for thundercat, stayed for the guy grooving on tambourine
Thankyou Thundercat for giving music the CPR that it has needed for years. True talent.
I love the fact the whole band is bopping and grooving so hard!
This man is dressed like Chiaotzu on a live show. Thundercat is a GOAT.
I wish I could be half as happy as the tambourine guy. 😂
3:10 am i the only one who noticed, that Thundercat really wanted to start a solo at 3:10? He looks so sad that the piano man still playing :D
Yeah, I was waiting for his solo to blow everyone away
His volume was also low considering that his crazy fills practically went unnoticed
They ain’t let him go super saiyan
Holy crap I was just thinking that
Keys was thinking “I’M LIVE BABE”
Let me steal the spotlight during this live performance
tbf hes so insane in the normal sections
The house band is having so much fun with this track! 💪🏾💪🏾
I love how the Tuba is carrying the bass line so smoothly
What a haunting groove that song has! Amazing performance! Incredible musicians! That man can dress however the F he wants given the way he has managed to position himself in mainstream media through the power of his talent and years of dedication. So hard to pull that off in a Pop world! Congrats Thundercat!
I love that everyone playing looks so into it!
I love musicians that boldly go where no man has gone before.
Such a dark statement on the national TV machine. Bravo!
I still can't get over how much Jon Batiste steals every possible solo opportunity away from one of the craziest bass players in the game.
The hypest tambourine player on the planet.
Tambourine guy is literally me
If you’re gonna play the Tambourine, then you better PLAY the Tambourine 🔥🔥
I absolutely love the album version, but this was incredible... what an insanely talented group of musicians! The funk could not be contained
that dude is vibing so hard. im pretty sure hes not just playing the tambourine, hes channeling the whole song thru it
