When my band played this, my director would always put a good sized pause before the last note. One practice close to the concert we were running through this piece and right at the end, before the band director cued the last note, one of the trumpet players accidentally played before everyone else. And it was not a pleasant noise either. He then stands up and leaves the band room. My director thought it was funny enough that he incorporated it into the concert. He played the note purposely bad and the band director pointed him off stage before the final note. We also pour a bunch of bouncy balls on our director as the last note played. Still the funniest concert I've been apart of.
we're playing this for our april fool's concert. our director is going to put all these pieces on the program and then say "welll, we planned to do these next thirty songs, but we ran out of time, so we'll have to play them at the same time" :D
When I did this at Music School, each group of instruments (I play Trumpet), stood up when they were playing particularly noticeably, this is very fun and good to watch, but my GOD we were knackered by the end of it!
I played eb alto saxophone and absolutely loved playing this piece!! it's a shame I am unable to do band again this year and this song makes me emotional when I hear because of great memories and a great first year of band, never played or read music in my life until last year and I'm grateful for it all, play this piece, it's a work of art💘😭👌
The North Shore Concert Band in Auckland New Zealand is practicing this at the moment and I who play the drums have to say I have rarely enjoyed anything so much! One of our trumpeters who shall remain nameless says he can't stand it, for what reason, I have no idea!! But I love it, and this rendition is excellent!
I used to be in the Golden Eagle Community Band in Mount Holly NJ back in the 1980s. We played this piece so often that after a few years we had a running joke................... We called this piece "Constant Insert". At christmas time we also pulled out a song called "Adeste Fidelis" but we sometimes called it "A Dusty Fiddle". With "Instant Concert", we had a little fun with it. Between 0:32 - 0:40 a few of the brass players and I would hoot and holler for a few seconds with "Yeehaws" and "Yahoos" while the wind instruments played what you hear above. And then @ 1:05 we'd really pronounce the "UUUHHH" sound. It would get the audience laughing. Yeah. those were great days back then.
Thanks so much for posting this - in the 1970's I played the french horn in my high school band and we played this as the encore at every concert -- I can still sing along with it in my head after all these years -- great memories!
Im playing this in band, every time we need to grunt, only a few people do it, but they do it in a way that makes everyone laugh and we have to start over a few times. I play 1st trumpet in this, some of those high notes are HELLA hard.
I'm playing it in my state youth string orchestra! I'm very honored to be in it, and also only the second bass player. There are only two double bass players. I'm playing to tuba's bit. We play a bit slower though, but yet again we only just started it! ^^
Im a junior now in high school, but my freshman year we played this and our director had told the audience to count how many songs were in this piece and no one could figure it out and it was the funniest thing in the world #flute
I have fond memories of playing this in my high school Marching Band at Lane Tech High School in Chicago, IL. However, I have to say that this performance sounds much more polished and professional than the high school kids doing it, and it's so cool hearing the piece done right since I only heard it done the amateur way as a kid.
We played this song in high school band. I loved it. I played the crash cymbals, woodblock, triangle, and tamborine (we didn't have sleigh bells for the christmas part so we improvised)
We're going to play this tomorrow at the Halloween Parade in Takoma Park. I can't wait! I love how it mixes all of the popular tunes in one piece. The clarinet part is lots of fun!
I like how everyone else's band is playing this, along with mine. I find it hilarious how it switches songs, from happy to sad to blaringly loud to quiet. It's like the theme song of bipolar disorder.
