    I listen to a lot of channels for ideas, coaching, and motivation. It's funny that the one that makes the biggest difference isn't the guy on stage with a 6" diamond watch and Louie V suit, it's the channel where some guy in his basement gives advice in a soft voice. 😂 Actually I think the magic of this this channel is 1/2 Ebay advice, and 1/2 the way it's about keeping organized. Everything from the shelves in the background, the details of the purchases and sales, even the app.... all about keeping focused and organized and taking the details seriously.

    One of your viewers asked about selling from his RV. I don’t sell from an RV, but I sell from 3 different locations. I carry as much as I can in my RAV4, but I always have several items I just can’t take with me. Keep in mind my “store” is 100 items or less. My technique wouldn’t work for big time sellers. I end the listing of things I can’t take with me. I then sell similar and keep the items in my drafts. You can keep draft items for 90 days, but all you have to do is open a draft item, erase and retype one letter or digit and save back to draft and you are given a new 90 day window. I just got back from being away 4 months and I’m going through my draft items and listing them back to active status. I also have to change the item’s mailing and return location, but using bulk editing works well.

      My personal experience, living on the Canadian prairies, by using the recent eBay discounted shipping, I am getting much better value on shipping rates on an overall scale. In fact I find it costs equal to or less to ship to the US. I offer flat rate shipping and haven’t had any issues. Now if you want to open a US Poshmark then you would need a shipper to mail your stuff.

      @@steverogers7624 There needs to be a channel just for understanding shipping up here! 🤪Expedited goes up to 5kg and does larger than the 90cm total. I just discovered(by a recent combined shipping experience) that it is now way easier to ship larger items because of this. I live in the middle of the Bermuda triangle of Ontario(Toronto/Ottawa/Montreal) so I have no discount shipping companies near me but the eBay/Canada Post arrangement is a really good one and I print all my labels with eBay. I usually make a little money on the shipping to cover material costs but I can make a little more when the parcel goes across the border. I never set free shipping. I only sell about 2 items a week at this point though. Not sure if the shipping is the reason. I also always have offers on but I mostly send them out.

    • @jaycollings2790
      @jaycollings2790 4 дня назад

      @@steverogers7624 it’s a tough one for sure. I do try to avoid bigger items. But for shipping within Canada eBay 2-5kg, I see if my measurements align with the Canada post prepaid boxes. Those are 5kg limit and ship anywhere in Canada. So I know that’s the max I’ll have to pay to ship. If someone within Canada buys, maybe eBay’s shows cheaper, if not, I go with the prepaid. The over 5kg stuff, I don’t mess around, it’s calculated shipping. That’s the best use of calculated in my opinion. I will also look at similar solds to get an idea what it might cost.
      A question I have is if I look up similar solds, someone who sold with calculated, does the sold shipping adjust to my location or does it show what the buyer paid?

I updated better titles and added as much as possible in the item specific section (even if it had to be unknown or N/A). I haven’t run the report since, but I did sell a tie. Then 2 more notices with a return to sender date. If the customer doesn't pick it up, it's sent back.

    Do you find that sales take awhile to rebound after using eBays Away feature? We had an all time best September and took just 4 days off the first week of October. I set us to Away and allowed sales during that time (and continued to list new items from my draft queue.) Our sales plummeted to about 25% of normal during our Away time and continued to stay low for about a week after our Away ended. They are now (hopefully) climbing back toward normal as I did a few mass end and relistings. I cant help but think the mystical eBay algorithm drops visibility to Away listings and this continues even when back and fully active. I'm likely just reading into something that's not there but, then again, my data and metrics dont lie. The dip was real. Have you seen this?

    When I factor in the tax savings from deducting my health insurance premiums, deducting my max contribution to a health savings account (HSA) - which is only available because I have a high deductible health plan, and not having to pay for preventative medical care because it is included in my plan, my health insurance as a self-employed reseller is very affordable. Something as relatively common as a broken leg requiring surgical repair would wipe out the last 5 years of my total health insurance costs. At 61, my odds of having a massive financial wipeout from a common health issue are way too high to risk going without insurance. Everyone has unique circumstances, though, and we all need to make our own choices. I just wanted to point out that when you factor in tax deductions and free preventative care, the overall annual cost of health insurance is way lower than just adding up the monthly premiums paid.

    Two questions:
    1. Does running a sale or sending an offer to a potential buyer cause eBay to charge you more if someone buys these items?
    2. Is it possible to get eBay to remove negative feedback you received if the buyer won't revise it. I had a buyer give me negative feedback claiming he never received the item, but tracking shows it arrived to his post office 2 days after I shipped it. I called that post office to find out they were holding other packages for him and leaving noticed on his door because he refused to put his address on his mailbox (in a group of other boxes). I just got the package returned to me. I refunded the amount minus the shipping, but the negative feedback remains. He wrecked my 100% positive feedback.

    Be careful with free shipping on clothes. Clothes have a very high return rate in general, and if you have free shipping on your clothing item, you lose the ability to withhold original shipping.
    Wouldn’t advise free shipping on electronics either. People will purposely buy bigger electronics with free shipping (VCRs are a good example) and say they don’t work. You are then faced with the decision of eating the return shipping charge, or if it makes more sense to let them keep it. Charge for shipping-if you really want to be competitive, then just charge less, but always charge SOMETHING.

    I am from Canada, initially I offered Free Shipping which is not good in my experience. Canada Post is expensive so try to offer fixed shipping, it works for me as most of my customers are from USA and nobody complained about the shipping prices. Most of light items I charge C$12.95 which works and if the product is less than 200g, its very cheap shipping. I almost buy all shipping through Ebay which is way cheaper than if I buy direct from Canada Post.

      Not offering FS is a huge competitive disadvantage, If you find otherwise you are in one of the remaining skus where it is not so much the issue. The one overriding factor in all reselling is eliminating pain points. Buyers want a huge easy-button when buying. FS takes the movement issue off the table. People today are fickle, lazy and really really stupid. Turn the table and make them feel good for choosing your listing where they force you and I to do all the work and worry. Charging shipping creates worry for them.

    Thanks, Justin, for sharing. Been selling one year, about to get top rated seller, and now tackling advanced (for me) issues. So I have several questions:
    1. Item specifics: I sell art. If I enter dimensions, won't it prevent a match in the search for most buyers? I can't wrap my mind around
    the item specifics being not useful for many features such as color, etc.
    2. Item specifics: The rule is to finish item specifics for best algorithm placement, but some are obscure or not valid.
    3. Top rated return policy: I have noticed some art sellers do not accept returns but are top rated.
    4. I send quality and fragile items with no returns, good customer service, and no breakage, but I receive feedback maybe 1 out of 6. Should I
    be asking for feedback in a note in the package or in an email when I ship? I am afraid to. Thank you Thank you Thank you, Thank you Kathy

      Called bird feeding. Ebay spreading the sales around so everybody is motivated to pay their fees. You will get eyeballs based on your long term store's metrics. If you were killing it then eBay was doing the same to balance out your numbers.
      There is only 2 ways around this...sell ultra high demand limited items they cannot hide, or to constantly be adding items to your pile which forces you past the bird feeding drill somewhat. The rub is stopping. Once you lay 30-60-90 days of vacations and stuff you should not have bought to your store, its back to bird food. Ideally you want 250 items which turn over close to 100% per quarter at an avg sale price of $35 This is all my opinion based on years of eBay reselling. Your mileage will vary.

      @@scottneville76 When you create a listing you have the option of making it live or finish it later. Finishing it later puts it into the Drafts. A draft can stay for 75 days, but if you open the draft and just make a minor change and save it back to drafts you get another 75 days. I was away for several of my items for 4 months. I ended each one and then I selected sell similar. Instead of listing live I selected finish it later. This put the listing into drafts where they stay for 75 days, but at about 70 days I would open it up and save it again to get 75 more days. I just got back and now I’m going through the Draft items and making them into live listings. I didn’t have to redo any listings.

    We have not had any kind of health insurance for 8 years. If we need to see a doctor, we pay cash. We funnel the money we would pay for insurance into our food and supplements. It has worked just fine for us and we have 4 kids. If we had extra money or the amount insurance would cost, we would just invest it into a Health Care Savings Account. Just to be clear: our job was offering insurance at $600 a month with a $5000 deductible. That was the lowest monthly offered with a huge deductible. Not anywhere in the affordable neighborhood. It's not just about the monthly cost, the deductible is something that has to be considered as well. Hospitals do have payment plans if an emergency arises.

    Although I’ve mostly found eBay to be super easy, the obstacle I struggle with is….
    1. how to best sell multiple items and
    2. also manage the shipping costs associated with that.
    I use calculated shipping, as flat rate is hugely impractical, based on my location. My current problem is when someone buys multiple items on a single order - especially multiples of the same item, eBay multiplies the weight per item to create a new calculated shipping cost - but it oddly leaves the box size the same as for one item. It’s almost never enough (especially with fine china, because of extra bubble wrap and bigger boxes), and almost always leads to me having to cover the difference.
    Is there a setting I should look at to alter this, or a better method in general?

    • @angelad.8944
      @angelad.8944 4 дня назад

      I had the same experience and I panicked. I even asked eBay support to make a ticket to review this issue. I would have liked it if I could have choose to group them in a combined shipping scenario, where I could choose the number of boxes, their sizes and weights, etc. It an issue. I did end up, by sheer luck, covering the cost of the larger parcel by upgrading it to expedited and having that shipping discount with eBay. I am not keen on multiples at the moment. I have to really rethink it going forward. An option is to just list what you can fit in the box size that works for you and then relist with the rest after they sell. You could always chat with the buyer to see if they would like to buy the others and then set up a listing for it, etc.

    • @marklewis3579
      @marklewis3579 4 дня назад

      @@angelad.8944 there’s a way to set up invoicing, where the buyer chooses but then you have to create an invoice after considering the actual new box dimensions and weight. But I’m not sure how to do that because, even though I got an order like that once - I had no idea how it happened. Maybe it’s just having the pay immediately option turned off?

I also have no returns setup on my ebay account. They did send a photo but of cource it was the side not saying the dvd title so not sure if it’s really the one I sent. I told them to do a return though ebay but he also stated he tossed it in the trash and no longer has it. He did ask ebay to do a return but I know he doesn’t have it to return. Tell him to open a return and send it back. Regardless if he is telling the truth, eBay WILL force you to give him a refund, guaranteed. If he is telling the truth, he will send it back. If he is lying and is just seeing if you will refund without a return so he can get a free item (the whole "threw it in the trash" thing is usually a scam), he won't return it and you keep the money (add him to your BBL regardless.)
