I worked on the AN/APQ-120 in the first half of my Air Force career. You guys have done an amazing job of recreating the look and feel! One thing I can comment on is that the pilot's display should be set back further inside of the HUD, since the AN/ASG-26 LCOSS mounted to the front of the radar display group. It was about a foot back inside, since the gunsight (LCOSS) contained a precision mirror, the reticle light and several servos and servo-potentiometers for moving the mirror, positioning the reticle in the combining glass. Overall, an amazing job, Heatblur!!!
Thank you for your kind comment, and thank you for your service! Sales pitch as I heard it: The AN/APQ-120 radar in the F-4E is a masterpiece of frustration, a technological relic from the era of disco and bell-bottoms. Picture this: you're cruising at Mach 2, ready to take on the enemy, only to find out your radar can barely distinguish between a pigeon and a MiG-21. Its range is about as reliable as a fortune teller's crystal ball, leaving pilots guessing whether that blip on the screen is a bogey or just cosmic interference. Accuracy? Forget about it. Trying to lock onto a target with the AN/APQ-120 is like trying to thread a needle while riding a unicycle on a tightrope during an earthquake. You might as well close your eyes and hope for the best. But fear not, brave pilots! TRAM wasn't a radar. TRAM was the EO/IR ball under the nose. TRAM was matched with a new Norden AN/APQ-156 radar. The BN could use both TRAM imagery and radar data for extremely accurate attacks, or use the TRAM sensors alone to attack without using the Intruder's radar (which might warn the target). @@_Am0N_ I'm worried about how it will perform as well. But the issue I'm describing isn't due to local machine performance, it's a multiplayer thing. For some reason DCS doesn't smooth motion of animated objects (like pilots, gear and flaps) for aircraft in multiplayer. I get that they don't want to send 120 updates a second for their positions, but still that's no excuse not to smooth the motion. And it will make these rather excellent animations look very low frame rate in MP (unless HB have found a way around it).
@@AdmiralQuality (HB dev) This is actually up to the coders and we did it "proper". The animations are smooth in multicrew. They are stuttering if you sync the current pos. Instead, you have to sync the target position and compute the actual movement to that target position locally on each machine. That way animations play smooth :)
Now I think I know why Heatblur needed to upgrade Jester AI. Holy smucks this is just pure chaos for the WSO. Additional voice lines from Greywolf are also amazing as ever.
At the 14-minute mark, I had to pause the video and go out and look at the sun. This is so ridiculously complicated. It's why at my age I like the beautiful simplicity of the Spirtfire. I'd like to hear from an F-4 WSO who can say, "Oh, it's simple once you get the hang of it."
It's intermission between DCS updates. Heatblur is up at bat. Viggen on third base, Tomcat on 2nd, Eurofighter and A-6 sitting together in the dugout going back and forth over A2G vs A2A. Meteor playing in the background getting the fans pumped up! (COOOOOLD BEER!) Here comes Greywo1f with the latest video drop on the big screen ........... AWESOME!
I’m thoroughly impressed by the immersion and fidelity of this system. Now the question that comes to mind now is what flight sim equipment company (ie WinWing, Virpil, Thrustmaster, etc.) is gonna develop a panel to help us with turning these in the detail it demands? It looks like it may be difficult to fine tune with a mouse in comparison to slave switches and dials. I’m optimistically waiting to see who will provide the panel setup for our/us WSO’s.
I find this legacy aircrafts the most enjoyable, as a human factor is everything. Plus i can see their history in my mind, inspiring. Waiting for a Phantom II sim since Strike Fighters. Thanks for fantastic job.

@@AdmiralQuality i guess the whole phantom will be a chunky mess for my pc. Sat yesterday in the f14 with stuttering every 3-5 seconds. I can play every other module on high graphics and on full servers without any big trouble but if the F14 is even lagging that hard on everything low and they already said the phantom will have worse performance than the F14.. makes me wanna cry😢😂
@@AdmiralQuality yea i know. It just triggered my dcs performance ptsd😂
And this is only part one, well done HB! Looking forward to the next preview videos!
I so can't wait for release!
I'd like to hear from an F-4 WSO who can say, "Oh, it's simple once you get the hang of it."
amazing hardcore stuff! Incredible work 🤘🤘🤘
It's intermission between DCS updates. AWESOME!
PART TWOOOOO!!?? I wanna know MORE
Phabulous stuff...
Me: DAMN THIS IS SO AWESOME
Brain: *please... stop this madness...*
This is incredibly impressive.
Let´s hope Jester brings his A-Game!
HeatBlur: above and beyond! 🥳
I finally found a good guide on how to use my microwave!
Yeah buddy! This was awesome!
I serviced F-4's in Germany a few years, before then it was SAC with B-52's. Back to the analog years without the crappy Russian Flameouts.
In the current DCS world of darkness…. This is the light I think we all needed! Thanks HB! We’re glad to have you with us! 🙏🏼🤘🏼
Cool, looks like jester will have fun using that.
I find this legacy aircrafts the most enjoyable, as a human factor is everything. Plus i can see their history in my mind, inspiring.
Waiting for a Phantom II sim since Strike Fighters.
Thanks for fantastic job.
I can't wait to spend months utterly failing in this beauty.
500 kb! Wow! We'll never need more memory than that.
I cant wait to get my hands on this monster.
F4 and F14 my favourite. Good to see the best devs took on the challenge too.
Well... this is going to be a fun learning experience!! 😎👍
