A professional tubist recently told me not to use a large mouthpiece on a 6/4 tuba. Would you agree or disagree? Which one do you use?

It is all a matter of personal preference. I think it depends more on the individual’s embouchure, than the size of the tuba. I do avoid using extremely large or deep mouthpieces on bigger tubas. But I personally don’t believe in using “small” mouthpieces on big tubas just for the sake of clarity. Again, it’s more dependent on each player’s individual embouchure size and playing ability. I hope that helps.
