Persevere with it. I’ve been using mine for a year now and will never go back to towels or tampons. Sometimes I still insert it wrong, but you get there in the end.
Hi Kerry. Love this video. Good for you for trying a menstrual cup, and for sharing the experience publicly! 👍 I'm a recent convert to a menstrual cup. I've used mine for 4 months / cycles now and love it. Absolutely zero leaks. Getting the right insertion is definitely the key to preventing leaks, as you've already discovered! One little trick I've found when sterilising it in boiling water is to pop the cup inside the "cage" of a balloon whisk, this keeps the cup fully under the surface of the boiling water. Hope you find that useful. All the best. 💖💖💖
Oh that’s such a good idea when boiling it :) thank you for the advice :) yes I defo think I need more practise with mine but I already love it :) I’m weirdly excited for my next period so I can try it out again and get it right :) xxx
I bought my first menstrual cup about 7 years ago and after the first couple of months of teething pains, I have never looked back. I usually need to rotate it a bit and give it a gentle tug after inserting to make sure it is sealed properly. If it comes straight out I know the suction isn't there. Definitely persevere with it. It is so cost effective and environmentally friendly and I feel like I can forget about my period much more easily than with pads and tampons and it seems like less of disruptive inconvenience each month (although I have only had 4 periods in the past 3 years due to two pregnancies and breastfeeding😄). It's so great that you are showing the challenges too so that if people try, they know that they are normal and will get there! I don't find anything is TMI really with things like this. Thanks for sharing! xx
Aahh yes in the same.. I never think any of this is TMI either :) I’m glad you said you have to give it a bit of a tug to find out if the suction is there as mine defo isn’t most of the time!! I am going to carry in using it as I already feel like it’s so much easier with periods already even though I leaked!! I’m weirdly looking forward to my next period now :) xxx
Persevere with it - I’ve been using a mooncup for around 6 months now. I love it when I’m out in the hills - you don’t have to worry about how long it’s been in unlike tampons!
Game changer, I love mine. Once you get used to the best way (for you) to insert it, it's amazing. I've been swimming, on holiday, to the gym....all the things on a tampon advert that everyone scoffs at!
This is what I am so excited for :) I have quite heavy periods and I felt like I was always changing my tampon so I’m so excited for me to get the hang of the mooncup 100% so I don’t have that worry anymore :) xxx
I have just finished my first cycle with a menstrual cup and I loved it. Completely agree to put it in, rotate and check around the edges then pull as if you are removing it and if there is resistance then the suction has formed and I can push it back up. But like you it tooked me a few days to work it out. Great video xxx
So glad you had the same experiences as me and that’s how you check yours is in properly too :) I so enjoyed using my menstrual cup too and am weirdly looking forward to my next period!! Lol xxx

I have just come off the pill after 8 years or so and my cycle is still not back, 9 weeks since stopping the pill. I was pleased to hear it took some time for you to get back to normal. Feeling a bit down about it, I want to have kids soon xxx
Oh no honestly.. I would say even after 1.5 years I still wasnt ‘regular’ I am now but it’s been about 3 years but I feel so much better for not having something artificial in my body.. yours will come right.. but just give it some time :) xxx
I’ve recently just started using the saalt cup! My first month was full of leaks this month has been amazing! It’s all about the suction if you don’t get that suction it will leak 💖

Hi,I have just bought a mooncup, waiting for it to arrive.i can't use it for 2 cycles though because I am having a copper IUD tomorrow😱 I have also had 2 kids and I have been on hormonal contraceptives for the best part of 19 years...no more I'm done with that lol,do you find non hormonal birth control better? I'm also afraid of getting heavy periods because mine are a bit irregular atm and quite light.thanks xx
I must admit my periods have been so much heavier since not being on contraception.. but I don’t get any period pains anymore which is a massive deal for me! I am so happy to be on my natural cycle but it’s so much shorter than I thought it would be.. mine is about 28days.. maybe that’s normal? I’m not too sure! It takes a while to get used to but I am so glad I’m off everything now :) xxx
Great vid Kerry and perfect timing as I have just bought one! I've had one for over 20 years (my sister brought it from America for me) and have tried it several times but never given it a good shot - it wasn't the inserting that was the problem for me, it was the exit - you have to break the seal but I always had a panic and that makes your muscles contract and got in a right pickle! They have come a long way and are much more silicone rather than brown rubber which my old one is! I think you would get on better with the smaller one too - give it a go and thanks again! x
So so god you are giving it another go.. yes someone else said to me about a smaller one so if this month doesn’t work I might try the smaller size :) I think they are just such a brilliant concept and I hope it becomes like second nature to me soon!! If you give the base a good pinch when you remove it you will hear the suction coming loose and that when it’s so very easy to remove it :) xxx
Thank you for this video Kerry, I too have been using the moon cup the last 2 cycles and still getting to grips with it! This was my main aim this year to crack using the mooncup, to help the environment and not too by water bottles or carrier bags!! So far so good! X
Those are such great changes to make :) I have invested in a good quality water bottle which I just fill from home and take out with me.. I don’t know why we all just didn’t do this years ago! I also always look at what can and can’t be recycled before buying :) xxx
Great content. I bought one when I was a student 10 years ago but chickened out. Might try again once I’m not pregnant. 👍🏻 thanks for making this interesting review
I would defo recommend it.. even though mine didn’t go so well this period I’m defo going to persevere with it as everyone just raves about it so much :) xxx
Yes defo try again.. I could feel mine lots of times and then I just repositioned it and I couldn’t feel it then.. maybe try a smaller size too if you are petite as the normal ones might be too big for you :) xxx
Love this video! Thanks for sharing! I’ve been using a menstrual cup for about a year now! I swear by it! Wish i’d used one sooner! I think I was lucky that the one I bought fitted perfectly, I’ve read about women having to try different sizes and brands until they got the right one! Mines is a lunette one! I must have watched every video and read every article before I finally thought I’m doing this! I can’t feel it when it’s in which is how I know for me that it’s in right! It did take me a few cycles to get the hang of it though and even after a year I get the odd time I haven’t put it in right! I actually have to set an alarm on my phone to remind me to change it as I just don’t feel like i’m on my period anymore! xx
This is so interesting as I’ve used mine for 2 months now and it’s still sometimes is uncomfortable and leaks so I still need to get the hang of it I think.. or maybe try a different brand?? Xxx
Kerry Whelpdale Maybe you still just need to get the hang of it! It took me a few cycles! I have watched lots of videos and some women bought lots of different brands until they found the right one! My flow is very heavy the first couple days (tmi I know!😂) so sometimes I can have the odd leakage, but nothing too drastic though! So I still sometimes wear a panty liner! I’ve heard of period pants which some women use and was thinking of getting a couple for those first few days of my period! Apparently they hold like a tampons worth and they look like normal knickers! x
I've been thinking about buying one for ages but haven't. I'm apprehensive as I get this really horrible dragging sensation when I have my period. I keep thinking that messing around with my cervix would make the sensation worse. Such an informative video and I appreciate your honesty xx
Oh no that’s horrible :( I don’t know how it would make you feel with the mooncup in but you never know it might make it better? It really is such a great thing and even though I didn’t get the hang of it completely I am weirdly excited for my next period to begin :) cxx
Here I am recommending balsamic vinegar in my last comment and menstrual cups in this one 😂😂 Try the Duchess Cups from Amazon - you get two for about £15.... they are super comfortable! I’ve been using a ‘cup’ for about 6-9 months now after another Ch Mum RUclipsr did a super review of them..... they are a game changer, especially when you’re on holiday! Takes a few months to get the hang of the angle they go in at 🙈 but stick with it X
Haha I know I’m also like.. try cooking this meal and then try a menstrual cup 😂😂😂 heheh!! Everyone keeps saying how great they are so I am defo going to carry on using it and I know I’ll get the hang of it really soon :) if this one doesn’t work for me then I’ll defo try your one out too :) xxx
I’ve been using a mooncup for about 12months now. I keep it in for 12hours a day and use a tiny bit of lube for easier insertion. I wished I had known about them years ago. I really think they should be given out in schools. They are better for the environment and better for your body. Fantastic product. Stick with it.
Such a good idea for them to be given out in schools :) that’s a great idea to use lube.. I definitely found the wetter it was the easier it was to get into the right position.. :) xxx
Really honest and informative review. My Wife asked me to check this out and I hope she tries the Mooncup as she has very heavy periods. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.
This was such a helpful video. I’ve been thinking about trying a mooncup for a while but haven’t been brave enough to do it but I’m going to give it a go now. Thanks you xx
Yes you defo should.. I just think it’s such a brilliant idea.. I can’t wait to be at one with mine and being really confident with it.. it takes some getting used to but I do already feel very confident with it :) xxx
Thanks for this honest review, Kerry. It's just good to hear other women's experience with the moon cup. I've been thinking about starting to use one of these, but still have my doubts 🙄 Will definitely wait for another one of your updates on it till I decide 😁
I am going to do another update after my next or the one after period.. I like being totally honest as it’s something I had been thinking about for so long but felt scared to try and I think so many women feel the same as I did :) xxx
@@KerryWhelpdale That is definitely true. The first time I heard about it,I immediately thought it is probably uncomfortable to use it. Thank you for talking about it so openly and sharing your experience ❤️
I don't want to sound weird but have you got the right size? The only reason I ask is because I went up a size for various reasons. However I found it hurt me when I put it in so I went back to my normal size. Just a thought that's all. Xxx
@@KerryWhelpdale It might be. I'm only saying that because I had trouble when I went up a size. It does say that if you are over thirty and had a baby naturally your vagina will be the bigger size. I would look it up on the internet if I were you. Hope this helps. xxx
Kerry Whelpdale I was just going to say the same thing Kerry, I think you should try the other size, to me it sounds like it’s too big...if I were you I would get the other size before you write it off xxx
Thank you for this. I have a few more questions though. How do you clean it? Just rinse out before using again straight away or does it need a deeper clean or just a deep clean between cycles? How easy is it to take out? Did you ever remove it in a public place? I’m guessing it’s probably not necessary unless you’re quite heavy? If so, how did that work?x
I didn’t ever remove it in a public place as most of those toilets don’t have a sink in your cubical and I always washed mine out each time I removed it.. so if I was going out and it had been in a while I would empty it before going out :) washing wise.. I just rinsed and washed each time I took it out and emptied it.. then sterilised before and after my cycle:) to take it out you need to pinch the bottom bit of the cup (where the ribbed bits are) and then squeeze then together until you hear the vacuum unseal itself.. and then it just comes out really easily :) xxx
I’ve been using mine for quite some time now and can’t recommend them enough. I’m sure that my periods don’t last as long as they used to and are less painful. Even now though, I find the first day or so I seem to leak and then I don’t leak at all after that. I’m going to try some of the other folding methods and see if they work better - I think I might have an awkward cervix 🤦🏼♀️
Yes I wondered if I have a weird cervix too!! I have to really feel around the cup to make sure it has fully opened up! I also thought my period this month felt so short and easy.. how crazy is that! I thought that was just me going mad 😂😂😂
Kerry Whelpdale mine only seem to last around 3 days now, which is great 🙏🏼 I’m really hoping some of the other folding methods work as I’m due on tomorrow and we go on holiday Monday!! My friend uses her cup and goes swimming but maybe her cervix isn’t as awkward as mine ☹️🤣
I’ve always been a tampon girl. I’ve been holding back from trying the cup because I’m not keen on inserting my fingers in, I find it a bit icky. I can’t even use non applicator tampons! I’d be interested to see a vid on your thoughts of the cup 6 months down the line. Like, is it much easier a few cycles in? Would you still use tampons in certain circumstances or have you stopped buying tampons? I’d like to switch but I want to see if a diehard tampon girl can be completely converted! Xx
Hahaha I know EXACTLY what you mean.. I have always found using non applicator tampons a bit yucky.. I’m not going to lie.. it’s not the most pleasant experience using a moon cup as you do need to imagery your fingers, but then I found I didn’t have to change the mooncup as often as I did a tampon.. so it made up for it that way.. if that makes sense?! Xxx
I have been using mine for 11 years now (i am on my second, sized up after birth). I think it is one of the best things made for women's. Easy to use, last forever and much better for environment too. Ps! I wouldn't cut it so short, you will get use to longer edge and it much easier to pull out. I would also say if you can feel it you should take it off and put in again, you shouldn't actually feel it without thinking about it (it will leak if it is too low).
Oh ok so maybe mine was too low.. I did think after cutting it this short that I had taken a tiny bit too much off!! Lol!! I’ll have a go and if it isn’t right I’ll get a new one maybe? I am really enjoying not using tampons though :) xxx
Thank you so much for this extremely informative video Kerry. I’ve been toying with the idea of trying one for a while but am definitely going to give it a go after this. So much better for the environment than tampons and pass. As an aside, please may I ask where your London map is from? I’ve been looking to get one of these for a while. Many thanks x
I’m so glad you enjoyed this.. I would say to defo try one as they really are so brilliant :) My london map is from Desenio.. they do such lovely prints in all different sizes too :) xxx
I’ve been so curious about them for so king now and finally took the plunge.. I already am so pleased I did even though I had a bit of a bad first month experience.. but I really do think it will get easier with each period :) xxx
It took me about 4 periods before I was comfortable with it and now I'm able to insert it correctly and comfortably. I have a heavy flow and now I only change it once in the morning and once at night. It is full when I take it out but it holds so much more than tampons so not an issue. I love not having to think about it all day. I found it VERY uncomfortable those first few periods x
Also if it feels uncomfortable I just push it up a bit further without taking it out just push on the end and it usually stops it feeling weird because its sat too low
I used to go through tampons so quickly and it would get me down constantly having to change it.. the last day I used the mooncup I felt so happy with it and am already looking forward to my next period!! Lol xxx
Thanks so much for sharing your experience Kerry, really informative and such an honest review..brilliant! 👏 this is something I've been considering too, so sick of being ruled by heavy periods.. especially for the first couple of days each month, so will definitely give the moon cup a try! 🙌😗 x
It honestly brilliant and even though I did leak, it almost didn’t feel as bad as using tampons as I knew it wasn’t the mooncup but me instead!! It’s defo worth trying and persisting with as it defo doesn’t come right straight away! Xxx
I need to persevere with mine Iv got the duchess had a few successful days and a few disasters I find it gradually moving down and not as effective towards the end of my cycle need to try the different folds x
Maybe yours is too small if it’s moving? I mean I really don’t have a clue so just guessing? Have you contacted Duchess as they will be able to help you and give you ways to hopefully stop that?? That’s what mooncup did for me :) xxx
I’ve only ever used pads as I’m too scared to try anything else but this is really intriguing me. I’m nervous about the whole removing part though, is that quite easy? 😬 Also, how do you go about cleaning them? Obviously not something you could do whilst at work?😬🙈xx
The removal of it at the beginning is weird but once you get the hang of it it’s really easy.. I would say put it in just before work and then take it out again to empty and clean once you are home.. it’s fine to leave it in that long :) xxx
This maybe a silly question, but I was wondering about what the cups are made from? If it will seep into my blood stream etc as its inserted. Is it safe and are there any long term testing.
I think these have been around for 10-15 years now and it’s made from silicone which is chemically stable which experts say are safe for your body :) so I think it’s ok but I’m not an expert by any means so I would say to definitely check up on everything before using it :) xxx
I’ve been really curious about them but I still don’t understand them. How do you know if it’s over filled? / what happens if it’s overflowing, does it clog up? If you are in public bathrooms, are you meant to pop it out and wash it in the sink and reinsert because that sounds like a big faffle? :/
You just start to leak if it’s over filled or isn’t in right.. so that’s when you would know you need to take it out and empty it.. I would suggest not to remove it in a public place (once you have the hang of it and know it’s in properly) as yes I agree it’s a faff and more often than not you don’t have a sink in your cubical to clean it out secretly!! So if you are worried I would take it out and empty it before you go out and you don’t have to remove it again for 8-12 hours so then when you get back home you can then empty it :) it’s actually quite amazing at how little blood you lose on your period.. I always thought it was loads but it’s actually not! When I had mine in for 12 hours it was only half full! Xxx
You will learn to know when it is time to empty it, for average woman it is 4-5 time, I can easily do with 3 and even can do night (but then quick run to toilet in the morning). In public toilet I empty it but do not wash, if you miss one wash nothing will happen. Obviously good wash in morning and evening is needed. Try it, you will never regard it. It is all about learning to understanding your own woman body and cooperating with it for easier life.
I’m scared of not being able to get it out or if it goes to high up and then can’t get it out,I have came of all contraception, as I want my body doing it’s natural thing, my biggest problem is I leak during the night and blood everywhere,
Have you thought about doing video on periods in your 40s and how our body prepares for the menopause as it’s something I’m wondering my self as I’m 40 odd
Wash with soap and water between insertions (unless you are out in a public toilet and it's more difficult) and sterilise at the end of each period before storing it. This should help: www.mooncup.co.uk/using-mooncup/how-do-i-clean-my-mooncup/
I sterilised it at the beginning and the end of my period and just washed it in between.. it was perfect :) but defo sterilise before you start your next period :) xxx
I wash it really well during my cycle, each time I remove it.. and then finally wash it really well again at the end and yes u could definitely go to the £1 shop and buy a separate pan for it :) xxx
@@KerryWhelpdale thanks, I guess if it lasts a while before needing to change it you can make sure you are at home to clean it. Randomly (😉) my facebook feed this morning has just shared an ad for a different brand and they sell a starter kit with a sterilising pod thing! Xx

Well done, all I can say though is thank goodness I don't need to bother with any of that anymore, early menopause and no more periods 😄😄
Period are rather annoying!! So if you are all done with your family you are lucky to go through early menopause:) xxx
This is so informative. Thank you. I bought one but I’m so petite and I could feel it all of the time. I panicked and removed. I should try again.
Here I am recommending balsamic vinegar in my last comment and menstrual cups in this one 😂😂
Try the Duchess Cups from Amazon - you get two for about £15.... they are super comfortable!
Kerry 😂
I bought a tulip stem cup first and it was a disaster - so painful. It’s definitely a case of trial and error 🤷🏼♀️☺️
Its so very good and I would highly recommend her trying it out.. everyone says it’s a total game changer :) xxx
Xxx
Oh really??? I do think mine has trouble opening up fully.. could the size be the reason do you think? 🤔 xxx
Xxx
Yay 😀 I use cloth pads they are also amazing keep going think of your body and the environment xx
I’ve never seen cloth pads before but feel it’s the way forward these days! So much better than sanitary towels :) xxx
Kerry Whelpdale send me your P.O. Box and I’ll send you some
Cloth pads to try from my business and you can vlog them hell to change the world lol xx
@@KerryWhelpdale i am sure you will love it, it is like a friendship with time gets only better x
Off topic....where’s your blouse from please? It’s lovely 😊
It’s from primark but last year.. but I do think they are selling something similar this year too :) xxx
Kerry Whelpdale Thank you 😊 😘
Thank you so much for this extremely informative video Kerry.
I would say to defo try one as they really are so brilliant :)
My london map is from Desenio.. they do such lovely prints in all different sizes too :) xxx
Many thanks indeed Kerry xx
During mental cycle? Nice to see a really sensitive subject tackled too. Xx
So glad you enjoyed this.. I think it’s very important to be honest about things and explaining what really happens whilst using products :) xxx
That was so interesting, thank you. I'm curious about menstrual cups but haven't taken the plunge yet!
Lol xxx
Aaah Kerry this is the best vlog I’ve seen in ages! Thanks for road testing it for us 😂👍🏻 you’ve really inspired me to get one myself! X
Aahh I’m so glad you liked it :) thank you so much for watching it and let me know how you get on if you get one :) xxx
Xxx
So sensible and informative and honest. Thankyou
So glad you enjoyed it :) thank you for watching :) 😘😘😘
Really appreciate you making this video. Well done and huge thank you ❤
So glad you like it and thank you for watching xxx
Kerry Whelpdale ah okay great, thanks Kerry, I think I’ll definitely have a look at it xxx
This was so informative. I look forward to the follow up! Xxx
In so glad you liked it :) thank you so much for watching and I promise I’ll do a follow up video very soon :) xxx
Kerry Whelpdale thank you! Xxx
Love your honesty! Thank you!
So glad you like this video :) thank you for watching xxx
This maybe a silly question, but I was wondering about what the cups are made from? If it will seep into my blood stream etc as its inserted. Is it safe and are there any long term testing.
I think these have been around for 10-15 years now and it’s made from silicone which is chemically stable which experts say are safe for your body :) so I think it’s ok but I’m not an expert by any means so I would say to definitely check up on everything before using it :) xxx
@@KerryWhelpdale thank you for replying, ok great will look into it. Fed up of sanitary towels plus plastic n all. Thanks again xxx
Kerry Whelpdale thank you. This has been a very helpful video and really appreciate the detail! X
Jelena Ol thank you, I’m so sick of pads and don’t like tampons!
Love the honest review. Thank you
So glad you enjoyed it.. I’ll be doing an updated one soon too :) xxx
I’m scared of not being able to get it out or if it goes to high up and then can’t get it out,I have came of all contraception, as I want my body doing it’s natural thing, my biggest problem is I leak during the night and blood everywhere,
I’m on my period again now so will be doing an update to this very very soon :) I’ll answer this question in it too :) xxx
Have you thought about doing video on periods in your 40s and how our body prepares for the menopause as it’s something I’m wondering my self as I’m 40 odd
Thanks for this video ! I’m tempted to try but I was wondering, how often do you need to sterilise it? Is that every time you have to empty it ?
Wash with soap and water between insertions (unless you are out in a public toilet and it's more difficult) and sterilise at the end of each period before storing it. This should help: www.mooncup.co.uk/using-mooncup/how-do-i-clean-my-mooncup/
I sterilised it at the beginning and the end of my period and just washed it in between.. it was perfect :) but defo sterilise before you start your next period :) xxx
Does it spill when you pull it out are they hard to pull out, do you have to sterilise it every time you empty it xx
I promise I’ve written all of these questions down and will be answering them in my new video :) xxx
What do you all do about cleaning it? I guess you could buy a separate sauce pan for boiling it....
Xx
Had mine for a while but can’t master it x
Ive heard some people say this too.. did you try lots of different folding methods? Also.. I think sometimes trying a different brand makes a difference too :) xxx

Love your beautiful green floral blouse. Where is from?
Nakkita Jasper it’s primark. I’ve got the same one 👍
Yes.. I love it so much and get so many compliments on it :) xxx
It’s from primark but last year.. but I think they have something similar this year :) xxx
Also how many do you need? For example would you have to change them like pads and sterilise them in between?
No you use the same one throughout your period and sterilise it before and after your cycle :) xxx
1st ❤️❤️❤️
😘😘😘
I use clothe pads.
Yes lots of people are saying about those.. I’ve never really seen them before but might try them next time I see them :) xxx

Aahh thank you so very much :) 😘😘😘
I'm trying this inserting it is fine but trying to get it out is a nightmare 😫
Can u do another moon cup video please
The size guide confuses me a bit. They say to use cup A if you're over 30 and have given birth and to use cup B if you're under 30 and haven't. Well im 31 and have never given birth.
On the mooncup website there is a part that says if you are 30+ and haven’t given birth then you should use cup A ☺️
Omg 😮
Sounds like too much faff!
