The big collection of players you were confused about at 2:43 is called a "Maul". Traditionally you see "Rucks" most of the game. This is when a player is tackled to the ground & both teams can compete over the ball/tackled player, with the attacking team generally retaining possession. A Maul occurs when a player is tackled but stays on their feet & at least 2 more players from the attacking team "bind" onto them & drive towards the goal/try line. There is a lot more details & nuance within both rucks & mauls but hopefully that helps! Mauls occur most often from a lineout (throw in from the sideline), as it can be a great attacking platform, especially close to the opposition goal/try line.
As a South African, America has taken some massive strides in rugby over the last few years. They deserve their flowers - and if they keep at it, they'll keep going from strength to strength. And if there's one thing the USA isn't known for, is giving up when they set their sights on something.

The USA has the potential to be a real force to be reckoned with in Rugby. You just need to invest more and sign on a decent coaching team that has great experience. You have good players but they don't have someone that can assist in developing their rugby skills. The USA sevens rugby team is already doing a good job because it seems a lot of focus and attention went towards the sevens rugby tournaments. They just need to do the same with 15-men rugby as well.
That no 8 is "THOR" VERMEELEN... 😂
Whoever suggested this video was bending you over the dryer he knew what was coming your way 🤣😂🤣
"Couldn't catch Couldn't if he tried" 😂😂😂
Don't right yourselves out just yet! I've been watching Major League Rugby and you guys have got some pretty solid US players in your ranks playing in teams like the Houston SaberCats, New England Free Jacks, Seattle Seawolves and Nola Gold. US rugby will become a force to recon with. With a little time and effort, Team USA could be in the top 5 world rankings.
To be fair, the Springboks are one of the titans of world rugby. it was an unfortunate match-up.
