Nice reaction! Answers to some of your questions/comments:
    1) The Springboks are the national rugby team of South Africa (my home country)
    2) A springbok is a type of antelope and is South Africa’s national animal
    3) The “power-off” you wanted to know about is a set piece called a “scrum” - and it basically is a “power off” between the 8 biggest & strongest players on each team. The Springboks are famous for their scrumming power - it’s one of our major advantages.
    4) Rugby players don’t tend to have their names on their jerseys for a number of reasons. The main one is that the jersey number denotes a position, not a person. So number 11 is always a Winger, number 10 is always a Flyhalf, 12 & 13 are your Centers etc. So each week a squad can swap out players assigned to a particular number. The second big reason is the ethos of rugby - it’s all about playing for your team & your country, not yourself. So Springboks don’t have their names on their jerseys because their individual name & performance isn’t what matters - it’s about the team effort as representatives of their country.
    5) We are currently back to back World Cup winners and 4-time World Cup Champions. This is a big deal as unlike the Super Bowl, the World Cup only happens every 4 years, so countries will spend 4 years prepping for it and will throw everything at trying to win it. Having won back to back (2019 and 2023) means we have been world title holders since 2019 and will be until 2027.
    5) World rugby just announced their world “dream team”. Of the 15 players chosen out of the whole world (the best player globally at each position), 7 were from the Springboks. My country is very proud of our boys!

Just to add to that...the springbok (jumping buck) is small, very quick, agile, with a "spring" in its step (see Cheslin Kolbe) which represent some backline positions. Some other positions are also compared to South African wildlife...the team attitude...wild dogs. Rugby goes much deeper in SA than just a game🙏

The South African national rugby team is called The Springboks after our national animal, the springbok, and are the 4-time World Rugby champions. The Rugby World Cup is held every 4 years and the "Boks" have won it in 1995 and 2007, as well as the last 2 editions in 2019 and 2023, making us back-to-back and current World champions.

As an Aussie, SA and NZ are always my second teams I support (Tri nations baby!) but SA are in an era of dominance that I've only seen once in my life and that was from the legendary Australian Test Cricket team of the late 90s/early 2000s. This SA team will go down in history as being legends of the game. I wish Australia were half as competitive but I'm not even mad to see SA just owning the top spot.

Both the Springbok wingers play with head gear and are often confusing the commentators and crowd as to who is who - They are number 11 and number 14 (Kurt Lee Arendse and Cheslin Kolbe). To make it even more tricky is that sometimes they come off the bench which means their numbers change again (16-23) or that in earlier games of their career they played the other wing. It can be confusing but you can distinguish them by their running style. Thanks for your video and good luck with your channel.

There are also school rivalry between some of the top school, such as the Paarl Derby, which is a huge big deal, and the whole town of Paarl (Western Cape, South Africa) basically stops for that game between the 2 high schools in the area

But that's not where the name for our national rugby team, the Springboks emanate from.. The springbok is a small'ish gazelle found in southern Africa - South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, etc. and it is also the national animal of South Africa.. So, hence the name.. 5:31 the guy with the #6 on his back, is our national captain, Siya Kolisi..

I love the scrum, for me it's what defines rugby and sets it apart from similar sports like rugby league. It adds a totally different dimension to the game, you need big strong players who are slow but powerful. Then you have more well rounded players to support them, followed by the really quick and agile players on the wings.
Scrums are just a way of restarting the game after there has been an infringement or unforced errors of some kind. Similar to the scrum anotjer formation called a maul can occurr in open play, where groups of players from both teams contest for the ball while standing, that's what you saw after the scrum.

SA has such dominance in the game currently because of some special features. Two that stand out are the excellence of the coaching staff and their creativity to lead in player development, game strategy and innovation. And also due to our excellent national management structures that vreates exceptional depth on player excellence. Schoolboy rugby starts at age 6 and many SA scholars are snatched by international teams before they even graduate. Some school derbys in South Africa can attract crowds of 30000. It is not the most popular sport in the country but it is surely the most passionate.

You were right about one other thing, Rugby and Football (soccer) have similarities mainly because the latter is a breakaway sport from the former. Back in the 1800s in England (both sports originated there) these were one sport called Rugby Football. But because some fancy kids in Oxbridge (Oxford and Cambridge Universities) didn’t like how “barbaric” Rugby Football was, they formed Association Football (Soccer) with a different set of rules. If I’m not mistaken, Americans then took Rugby Football and put a few of their own rules in it and created American Football. All 3 sports are known as Football today.

    A basic rules breakdown
    - There are different versions of Rugby (Union & League) further segregated by the number of players per team
    - This is Rugby Union (Mens 15s) 15 players a side (8 substitutes on the bench each)
    - The ball is passed backwards to teammates & kicked forward.
    - 3 ways to score -
    1. A try (5pts) with a kicked conversion (2pts)
    2. Penalty kick (3pts)
    3. Drop goal (3pts) - this is against the run of play
The Springboks are the South African men's 15s team.
    BlitzBoks - men's 7s team.
Rugby is played in from the 5th grade (*I stand to be corrected)
In South Africa, Rugby League is not so popular - it's more in Australia/New Zealand
Welcome to the world of Rugby

Thats debatable. Considering PSDT just won world player of the year. We all know Ox was robbed. Eben was nominated. Sous consistently wins motms. Frans Malherbe, Marx...Arendse has a higher score rate than Cheslin, so does Mapimpi. Siya has an enormous leadership presence. Andre/Damian/Jesse/Lukhanyo are immense. Willemse/LeRoux/Fassi...about the best you can say is Cheslin is an exceptional part of a very great team.

School boy rugby is massive in places like South Africa and New Zealand, where rugby is the main sport. The top school games are televised and attended by large crowds. We are brought up on this amazing game, and while it looks rough, if you play it from a young age, you learn how to take a hit and ride a tackle, and not having pads ensures that your tackling technique is impeccable. I enjoy watching NFL too, and the number of injuries seem to be higher in American Football, than in rugby. Also, a lot of the big hits in the rugby videos are illegal and they don't show the offending players being sent off once the play has stopped. Any head contact results in an immediate sending of of the offending player. There is massive concern about concussions, and many of the professional players these days have gum guards with sensors that notify the medical teams if a player is concussed and he/she is taken off straight away.
Play can be stopped if the ball is passed forward, accidently fumbled forward, or the referee believes a dangerous situation has arisen, or the ball is irretrievably buried under players, in a pile up we call a ruck. To restart the play, there is a scrum where 8 "forwards" from each team push against each other in a competition to win the ball. If you look carefully at the scrum, you will see a channel where the two sets of forwards meet. The ball is passed into this channel to restart the game, and each set of forwards tries to push the opponents off the ball. Eventually the ball will emerge at the back of the scrum, where it is passed out to the back line players, which are normally the smaller faster guys. If the ball goes out of bounds, the game is restarted with a line out at the point where the ball went out. Once again the forwards compete for the ball, standing in two parallel lines, and jumping for the ball when it is thrown in. This is where you will see the players lifting each other into the air to reach the ball.
A touchdown is called a try, and you get 5 points for each try. You then get the chance to convert the try by kicking the ball between the poles, which earns another 2 points. The kick is taken in line with the point from where the try was scored. Therefore, if the try is scored in the corner, the angle of the conversion kick will be quite difficult, while if the the try is scored under the posts, then the conversion kick will take place from right in front of the posts and will be relatively easy. This is why you often see the players trying to run the ball in closer to the posts after crossing the try-line, in order to make the conversion kick easier.
In rugby, we can pass the ball sideways or backwards, but not forwards. However, this can be quite confusing for newcomers to the sport, as many of the passes quite clearly travel forward. This is because the players are often moving at such speed when they pass the ball that the momentum naturally carries the ball forward. in order to overcome this problem, the referees watch the passing player's hands to ensure that the the passing action is backwards. If this is the case, the referee will allow the pass, even if the momentum of the player means that the ball travels slightly forward.
I have played variations of rugby from the age of 5 to my late 20s and I can honestly say that I never met anyone who actually wanted to hurt anybody else on the rugby field. When there are bust ups on the field, the situation is actually very controlled. No one actually throws a punch. You insult each other's mother a bit, posture a bit, but nothing actually happens. Take a close look at the moments where it looks like there is a brawl happening on the field. There is lots of pushing and shoving, but it is really just hand bags at 50 paces. These guys are universally fit and super strong and if they actually threw a punch, someone is going to go down. They are also all professionals, who cannot afford the match fee penalty and months of being banned from playing for actually taking a swing.
That being said, rugby is a hard game. It doesn't matter where you are from. It can be South Africa, UK, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, France. We are all taught that you cannot play scared. If you are scared you will lack commitment and that is where you get hurt.
However, the best part of rugby is that all people who play rugby are part of a brotherhood. We may bag on different nations and the rivalries are fierce, but there is a universal deep respect and understanding that exists between all men/women who have at some point walked onto that hallowed patch of grass to fight for 80 minutes over that wonderful oval ball. It is the great equaliser where what matters is not the size of the dog in the fight, but rather the size of the fight in the dog. It is a brief period where the mundanity of normal life is suspended and anyone can be a hero.

Head-to-Head Record. Overall, New Zealand lead the head-to-head 62-42 since the first Test in 1921. While there is a 20-game lead, no other nation has a remotely similar record against the All Blacks. On home soil, New Zealand have faced South Africa on 46 occasions, winning 33, losing 10 along with three draws Ref: Google

there's an animation if u search for rugby rules made for Americans. NFL is a by product of rugby that's why it never exist outside the USA.. 5 mains rules mainly..
    1: passing is only backwadds(lateral)
2:the pile is called a scrum, (that would be like going for 1st down when ur on 4rth In 10..
3:the hates are called scrum caps, (equipment wise)
4:tackling = same as nfl no contact between the neck n up, ur down but u keep playing but putting the behind u so that team can make progress, so ur not down if it's by contact but we keep playing(those are called phase)
5:u can fight (nhl+nfl rules) there's no off setting but if the feels it's done intentionally 10min break yellow card warning/red card is for stricter punishment

To understand the rules, you should watch a video entitled "Rugby explained for American football fans". It lays out the differences really well. Also, great choice on reacting to women's rugby as well: those ladies are absolute beasts, in the best possible way! If you get around to watching a full match, try the England vs New Zealand, in the Women's Rugby World Cup Final (2021).
