Hello Barrie i m in a similar position as yourself i remember when 30 years ago i first sang songs for my ex wife she said why am i singing in an american accent ? and as Joni Mitchell described with negro affectations ? I was shocked but she was right Rod Stewart sings like Sam Cooke Van Morrison sings like John Lee Hooker Stevie Winwood sings like Ray Charles even eric Clapton plays like Freddie King and as for Zed Lepplin dont get me started We all grown up and admire the the great american song book ie the Gerswins Irving Berlin Cole Porter Carlos Jobim Stevie Wonder Brian Wilson etc Even the Beatles admited and soundef like the Miricles Isley Brothers and Carol King in their early careers but found their own voices and style with the help of George Martin ? There are many indiginous British songs out there which might be suitable for rearection ? And also original ideas which can be develooed ? Music is a great hobby and if we feel for say Indian raga theres no reason we shouldnt explore and study it ! All the early mid 20th Century songwriters had all had some kind of classical background which is why they are great to study and play By the way after 15 happy years we divorced im still playing and occaisonly get paid but even if i didnt i would still continue learning songs and stuff As the great modern guitarist Martin Taylor said we are all in the Laboritory experimenting Bon voyage

Good tunes Try using barre chords for Leroy Brown, makes it’s easier to play and you get to work on those barre chords. Start on G, then A7, B7, then C, D, C and back to G. You can use the D7 by moving a couple of fingers and using strings 5-2. You can also move up the neck 1 fret on each beat 4. Watch a live version of Jim on RUclips.

Hi, I’m a bit barre chord challenged so I mainly play open chords. Is there a particular video or other reference that you could recommend that would show examples of how to play the specific barre chords you suggested? If that’s the better way to play this song I would like to be able to try it. Thank you

@@Doowopsid sorry, I learned it in a guitar class I took. You can use the E shape barre chord on all of them as you go up the neck. The 7th chords you would lift your ring finger and keep the rest on the strings. Those can be a bit tricky, I still have problems with them.
There is a video of Jim Croce playing the song on Midnight Special. You can see he doesn’t seem to play the 7th chords but does play the D7 on the turn around.

One thought is that if you are going to play Last Kiss, make sure that if they sell beer at the venue that it's served in paper cups and not glass bottles. Either that or put up chicken wire to protect yourself from flying bottles.

Lately for me, Country Roads has been a hit. I may have to give Bad Bad Leroy Brow a go though. Thanks for the suggestions.
