  • In this video, I put together a neat little circuit from a recommendation from Thea Flowers. It is a cool little synth circuit built from parts you probably already have in your junk bin! Get yours here:

The 555 is such a good chip, it really has had a long and useful life.

This is a brilliant little circuit!!!
Genuine 8-Bit Atari sounds are produced by the custom 'POKEY' IC and real ones are devilishly hard to find these days, not to mention expensive. The implementation of analogue and digital components on the same chip make it nearly impossible to mimic via an FPGA design as well. At least that was the situation a few years ago when I was still active in that community. Maybe someone has come up with a cycle-accurate replacement since then. I certainly hope so!

i made one earlier. i thought something was wrong with it! now i know it is _supposed_ to sound like that

Great project, the puppies thought the sound was interesting as well! I did a combined siren, police lights circuit awhile back all with 555 chips. Quite a versatile chip! 👍😀

Nice. I have made a bunch of different APC, and I recomend a baby 8 sequencer, so you can use it to create music without digital additions. I have kind of a long term goal of making a like a pretty advanced 9 volt synth based on a APC, with like 3 voices and some filters and a mixer, with secret sauce in there, to make it pop. Think I dropped some stuff with my lunchbox synth on TikTok, but I will try to do like some more videos on youtube with DIY synth content as I progress on that project, as I have been focusing more on my modular synth latly.

Dude, I literally turned 50 this June and I can tell you with 100% authority of experience that, each time you say, "Im getting old" to yourself or in any context if you truly believe it, that does more to actually Make you old than each year you rack up after oh, I dont know say, 35? Yeah, thats about right. Lol Peace

My question is : can patchpals be connected to the output of the APC?

The 2600 is nothing compared to today. But compare the 2600 to Pong, and 2600 wasn't bad. I still have mine and last I knew, it still works. I also have my ColecoVision. I always thought Galaxion was a cool game. It's graphics were much better than the original Atari.

Any chance you are still prepared to sell them ?

Very cool project, however, my cat is not a fan of the noise this thing makes. :)

That kind of makes it more useful around these parts! Could be a solution to all the songbirds being murdered in my back yard!

I wonder what potential this has for having a second smd board installed to add a bypass CV input to allow for frequency or pitch control with a CV controller capable keyboard?

    • @CatFish107
      @CatFish107 Год назад

No problem to add cv. I picked up a eurorack format apc from a diy builder in Holland. Mine has cv input jacks for both the parameters controlled by pots. It won't track 1V/oct, but if you send the output of another, more precise oscillator (which is tracking the keyboard properly) in to the cv, it is possible to play melodies on it. Another great use is to send short bursts through a vca as a neat textured snare drum sound.

Hey, is there any chance you still have the contact info for Larry?
I'm an electronics engineering student (currently doing digital devices and electrical characteristics of gates), and would greatly benefit from a pin straightener to prevent more finger stabbings in the future!

You could use several classes in the correct use of the English language. A 35-year-old really should have mastered it by that age!

This circuit looks like a pile of junk, sorry. If you are making videos just take the time to make jumper wires that lay down on the breadboard. It looks more elegant and a person watching can follow the circuit easier. Thank you.

well since you have money and a job why dont you give stuff away lol and make sure you give something away to poor people not someone that has everything allready lol anywyas you could always go to your local town and look for a person who is younger and poor and give him 100 dollars and make a video of you doing this and then you might get more viewers you also could do that once a week an make a video series about doing this just saying im sick of people who have everything doing nothing when im poor like so poor im still living with my mom lol im 35 years old and i have a bunch of health problems so i cant work and i cant collect wellfaire not that i would anyways but yeah im poor and ive always gave everything o ever owend away to someone that wanted or needed it lol

What makes you think I have money? If you followed any of my stuff you will know that I have been working only 4 hours per week since last summer, and that the only reason I can pay my mortgage is by taking on these sponsored videos, and I still make less money than my bills cost me.
