This is the best video game soundtrack of all time. So much emotion and atmosphere in the tracks, yet plays to your ears so well. Such a soundtrack from 1993 is amazing and remains unmatched. And to the US fans out there... The US soundtrack is the second best of all time!

Sonic CD is a good game in my opinion. In the beginning it's like, "The hell is with these level designs". The Japanese soundtrack is lovely by its bad future music that fits right in, and good future music does well too. For a lot of people, the level design is confusing and makes it hard (sometimes) to find that dame machine you need to destroy to have a good future. If your experience with the game or get used to it, you'll probably do well. In the original version (Genesis CD) the spin dash is not that useful and you'll probably use the super-peel out and then you just spin. Happily they fixed that in mobile and PlayStation 3 versions. In the other side; theirs the US soundtrack. The US soundtrack is pretty ok with its opening animation. But the negative part about it is it doesn't really fit in with the zones in the game; but Tidal Tempest and Wacky Workbench fits in with the music. My favorite level in the game is Quarts Quadrant. When I first went to that level the music is great and fits in well. For me I got used to the level design quickly so I went ZOOOOOOOOOOOMMMM and that was satisfying to me because I never ran without running to a wall. My least favorite is Wacky Workbench and everyone who played the game knows why. By its name, you can already tell why. The level design is to wacky. There's these things that if you land on them you'll be shot up to the highest it goes. I'm a little used to the zone so I came make the first two acts with less than a minute. Sence I've been playing this game for a long time, I can make through the zones under one minute, except all three acts and Matalic Madness zone two. I like this game and always wanted to play it when I heard about it. P.S.- did you guys found the secret in Wacky Workbench zone 1?
I keep coming back to the soundtrack much more often than the US version. I give props to Spencer Nilsen and David Young for recreating a soundtrack for the US market so quickly. But, I disagree that the US needed a more "rich and complex" sound. This is rich and complex enough for me! Either way, IMO, I'm happy that we were left with a really great ost, and another pretty good one.
I had the mobile version, and I'm honestly so glad you can change which one of the two play. Sucks that I bought it before the ads and now I have to pay again to not have them. And I'm stuck on Wacky Workbench Act 3.
Out if this BEAUTIFUL soundtrack my top 3 have gotta be: 3. Tidal Tempest present 2. Quartz Quadrant present 1. Stardust speedway (all of them it’s literally perfect)
Great great job. Generally, the pasts are more basic. Present is poppy dance music. Good Future is (not a surprise) very upbeat, happy music. And then the Bad Future music is more industrial dance. All excellent
+Simon Nader That's just the pure evil of Dr. Robotnik aka "Dr. Eggman" in which he tries to curb the enthusiasm and willpower of Sonic to get through his levels of doom by musical influence. His doctorate in music isn't just for show you know :P
+Simon Nader I feel because they are generally more energetic and the laughs and extra sounds put into the songs generally add a little personality into them.
IMO metallic madness good future sounds better than bad. It feels kind of like some sweet-ass utopia place that really makes the final act feel like that's where it should end.
I think that I will never get tired of this soundtrack. Easily in my top 3 of best soundtracks of all time. Tidal tempest present is my favourite track in the whole game it is so good specially when I just wanna relax after a long day. Best water level music of all time. Also SS Past and QQ Present are incredible (the whole soundtrack is but those ones just a little bit more imo).
Palmtree Panic B mix is pretty disturbing but funky at the same time. The children and audience that cheered for Sonic and the player became *Instruments* for the music, which gives a pretty dark theory for what happens to Little Planet in the Bad Future.
@@sonicphoenix7 thunder force iv, mega man x1 and x4, x5, x6, persona 5, mega man 7, mega man 9, mega man 10, mega man 1-6 NES music, shovel knight, sonic r, street fighter ii, streets of rage 1 and 2, pictionary nes, silver surfer nes, treasure master nes, sonic mania, sonic 2 and 3, dbz mega drive soundtrack, undertale, hollow knight, shinobi iii + several more that i recently discovered... lol
Sonic Team had amazing composers in the 90's and early 2000's. They still do, mind you, but I prefer their sound from those years. They haven't made a single mediocre soundtrack.
The buzzing sound constantly being played in the Wacky Workbench Past keeps startling the crap out of me lmao. I've heard the song hundreds of times without it and hearing it here was unexpected.
Depends of what humanity do with it. If it gets past corporate greed and stops to fuck up, it can be one of the greatest things it ever happened, just like the good future in Sonic CD. Robotnik represents those two.
The irony is that looking back, there is no way the industrial revolution could have been avoided. It was a transformation of nature, society, and the economy that followed necessarily from the philosophy of the Enlightenment, which itself arose as a necessary criticism of feudalism. The industrial revolution, capitalism, and the planet going to shit because of it are the natural course of events that happened because we did not actively decide against any of these things. The only way to get out of this trap is, as suggested in the game, to realise this, and artificially create and choose a new, good future.
Almost completely sure that the reason why there are four versions of every zone is because they took inspiration from house vinyls, which would usually include 3-4 different mixes.
I like the US soundtrack and feel like it fits the tone of the game a lot more, but I can’t understand why they would even want to change it in the first place. This version is already perfect.
Pure jammies all the way through. One of the greats in music composition in early video games. This OST alongside 3 & Knuckles are some of the best funky fresh beats from the time FR. I hope this OST pops off in views at some point in the future. All the love to everyone who made this original score.
Can we just talk about how almost every bad future of the songs sounds like 80's edgy songs and every good future sounds like Show Intros like Health show, Cooking show, Exercise channel, etc
I just realised that in the original Sega CD version of Sonic CD the Little Planet actually changes its sprites according to the time, when it's night the planet has more of a dark blue color, when it's dusk or dawn more orange and pink, while in the 2011 version it's always the same sprite no matter what time it is.
To this day, I wonder what some of the areas on the Little Planet are supposed to represent in-game. There appears to be a hovering factory. Could it have been a cut level, or is it part of Wacky Workbench? Also, where exactly is Tidal Tempest!? I think the mountains inside the Little Planet's ocean are supposed to represent it (as there are volcanos in the backgrounds of TT 1 as you begin the level), but I don't know for sure. I'm also assuming that the continent to the right of Stardust Speedway is part of Quartz Quadrant, as the levels have an outside forest to it that was connected to a diamond mine.
+Ritchie Cantwell I agree. It worked really well for the Metal Sonic boss fight in Sonic Generations and I personally think the bad future version sounds the best.
+Ritchie Cantwell I agree. It worked really well for the Metal Sonic boss fight in Sonic Generations and I personally think the bad future version sounds the best.
1:26:08 I have the XB360 Port/Rerelease, (since I didn't have a Mega Drive, nor a Mega-CD back in the day) and this one was also used for the Main Menu.
Both versions are great but it seems like the Japanese version is more focused because each time era is a reworking of the same melody. Seems like the US version is a bunch of interesting music that fits, but isn't thematically glued by the idea of a repeating motif.
I honestly don't understand why people to this day still complain about the US soundtrack. The easiest versions of the game to obtain let you pick between them. There's literally no reason to be upset anymore. If anything, the US soundtrack is a nice bonus to the Japanese one. It's fine if you prefer the Japanese soundtrack(in fact, I prefer a lot of the tracks from that to the US one), but to call it perfect and to completely dismiss the other one is plain silly.
The Japanese ost is ... magical I don't know how to explain it but it is beautiful, meanwhile the American ost is ... ugh ... weird, bad and it doesn't fit with Sonic, it disgusts me just listening to it ... the only good thing about the ost Americano is Sonic boom, I prefer You can do Anything .. but Sonic boom at least is decent
Stardust Speedway (Present) and Metallic Madness are So Good to listen while working, i just dance to the rhythm while working on my animations....The soundtrack Overall is a Masterpiece! Ahhh.... Good old SEGA... ;_;
EDIT: No, it just turns out I was really stupid 7 months ago. The Japanese soundtrack is better in every single way. Original (completely wrong) comment below: Okay, here’s my thoughts on which OST is better. In terms of *general composition and jam factor,* the JP soundtrack reigns supreme. In terms of *music that fits the levels they are composed around,* the US soundtrack wins in my book.

One of my favorites is tidal tempest bad future
P.S.- did you guys found the secret in Wacky Workbench zone 1?
the USA soundtrack is terrible.

Great great job. Generally, the pasts are more basic. Present is poppy dance music. Good Future is (not a surprise) very upbeat, happy music. And then the Bad Future music is more industrial dance. All excellent
How come the bad future version of the songs sound much more awesome than the good ones? :p
+Simon Nader the good music better
IMO metallic madness good future sounds better than bad. It feels kind of like some sweet-ass utopia place that really makes the final act feel like that's where it should end.
i think all the acts sound better in good future than the bad

If there's one thing this game taught me
it's that
*THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION AND ITS CONSEQUENCES HAVE BEEN A GREAT DISASTER FOR THE HUMAN RACE*
Depends of what humanity do with it. If it gets past corporate greed and stops to fuck up, it can be one of the greatest things it ever happened, just like the good future in Sonic CD. Robotnik represents those two.
@@gonubaxthefrench6144 The joke flew over your head: look up Ted Kaczynski
@@gack1015 oh no :(
The irony is that looking back, there is no way the industrial revolution could have been avoided. The only way to get out of this trap is, as suggested in the game, to realise this, and artificially create and choose a new, good future.
ppp (palm tree panic past) has to be one of the most relaxed and calming game songs to exist
I love all the themes to Stardust Speedway, Sega can do nothing wrong with it
Can we just talk about how almost every bad future of the songs sounds like 80's edgy songs and every good future sounds like Show Intros like Health show, Cooking show, Exercise channel, etc
Then there is Tidal Tempest past, which sounds like something you'd hear when put on hold when calling for the support of a company
I agree
Past songs: chill vibes
Present songs: almost wanna make you dance
Bad future songs: rock vibes
Good future songs: *sleeping vibes*
This is incredible, and the Japanese make amazing music. You rock Japan!
I'm also assuming that the continent to the right of Stardust Speedway is part of Quartz Quadrant, as the levels have an outside forest to it that was connected to a diamond mine.
interesting ideas man, truly :D
So many fantastic hyper techno references and inspiration in this soundtrack :)
