Hi, thanks for the comment. No. An electric grinder cant be used due to the restricted access and the water present in the excavation. The main has been live and may still contain water. Water and electric don't mix well.
On that situation lots of time lots of prepiration, i been 4yrs of experience in tie-in main water line here in Qatar. Different sizes of pipes from 100 to 600 mm. i use only gridder to cut the DI pipes.
ICS powergrit hydraulic saw with the 24" bar will make short work of a bit of ductile does not matter how much water is present ,we do quite a few cutouts with them i did a 20" cast main ,inch and a half thick both cuts in an hour and 10 mins i really like doing the bigger stuff
Done using tools and fossil fuels-no marx fairy tales here, folks! Ductile invented in 1943, which contains the addition of graphite; diff properties than cast iron.BTHS '79.
Looks like 18 or 20" TYTON pipe! I cut ductile iron pipe a lot with a K-12 saw where there is room to do it! I work for a Ductile iron pipe manufacture in the states called McWane /Clow .I have worked for 28 Years in the ductile iron pipe industry!

Hi Manuel, thanks for your comment. The authorities in the UK do not permit cutting by grinder in this situation unfortunately

Amazing an such a simple idea, very effective, well done!
Hi Chris! What is the brand of the chain cutter?
Can an electric grinder be used to cut the main?
it would have taken me less than half the time you guys spent playing around with that cutter with my stihl 420 but hey you're union right
Companies like Balfour Beatty ban the use of Stihl Saws in the UK so we have to use reed cutters and we all now have arms like Popeye
@@DaBriars How come you aren't allowed to use a petrol saw (or as i take it, any disc cutter)? Is it due to potential contaminants in the main?
Is it me or does it look like there's a garden known on top of the pipe?
this was very helpful 😊
