  • On march 4th 2022 i saw this little guy in petsmart. I asked if i could adopt him and they said yes. Adopting at petsmart means you get the fish free, you just have to fill in some paper work. i took him home and treated him for swim bladder disease and finrot. 6 weeks later he looks like a completely new fish.
    Epsom salt bath:
1tbsp/gal for 15 mins (this can be repeated a couple times a day for a few days).
    metronidazole fish food:
    Can be bought online
    OR
1 tbsp of food, 1/8 teaspoon of api general cure or seachem metroplex, 1 scoop seachem focus, and enough garlic guard or flavoring to soak food.
Bettas should ideally have tanks at least 2.5 gallons, with a filter and heater (unless you live in a tropical climate). water changes id recommend 20-30% every 1-2 weeks.
any questions feel free to ask :)

    Update 1:
The glow Betta is now living in my 10gal and the blue Betta is living happily in a 30gal serrority.
    Update 2:
Unfortunately I lost almost all my Bettas to a fast moving unknown disease in a matter of a few days. Including these 2 rescues. However They lived happy lives while I had them.

I’m looking forward to watching your videos and learning more about them, and sharing your lessons with others! 😊

Not sure if you saw the update yet but he along with almost all my fish suddenly passed a few weeks ago. I go into more detail in the video because there’s a lot to talk about but essentially we suspect it was some kind of fast moving virus or bacteria. Thanks so much for your kind words though :) I do love fish.

Hey Emma - this was a brilliant video. I adore my four fish - they are little characters, interactive, & playful. One of my girls gets constipated regularly, & you can bet I'll help her every time.
A friend said she would have her ten year old look after my fish if ever I went away - until she saw the care document I have for them! It's far more than just feeding them - which I wish more people would understand 💗

im so glad you enjoyed it :D she must be very greedy to keep getting constripated xD. one of my other fish was a complete pig.
Indeed fish really are tons of care! food, water changes, ferts if you have plants. everyone thinks its simple till they find out just how much maintenance they are.
hopefully as time progesses and information becomes more and more accessable, more and more people will understand their care. :)

Aww glad you could help that Betta! I just rescued one from PetSmart too. While buying some snails, I noticed a betta looking absolutely miserable in those cups. And its fins are all tattered and clamped, and it also has some stress stripes going on. It is completely gray and has no color. A worker told me that the little female betta has been in the cup for a couple of weeks now, and people havent bought it due to it having no colors and looking sick. So i brought her home with me. I am hoping now that she is in warm, oxygenated, and clean wster with a wide open space to swim, she will come around. The poor fish has some ammonia burns too it appears. I put her into a ten gallon tank, so hope she gets better! She definitely seems to be relieved to be out of the cup.

Go into almost any petsmart and you’ll see a sick fish being sold. Just because they aren’t supposed to doesn’t mean they wont. A lot of employees don’t even know they are sick. But also he wasn’t ‘sold’ to me. He was adopted out. Meaning I had to sign a bunch of paper work stating I know he’s sick and I will provide him necessary care. Although this practice was discontinued several months ago at my local petsmart. No clue if others still do it.
