Looked like a good day and I love a jerk shad for flounder fishing. I use only dark colors because our water at oak island is so dirty
That makes sense. Oak island has to deal with that river water outflow.
I enjoyed the fishing, but if that dog of yours cracks a cold one he truly is man's best friend lol. Man it's been a long time since I did any coastal fishing which is a crying shame, but I used to trap mud minnows and had good luck with them on flounder.
You are the third or fourth person to mention trying mud minnows. I just happened to get luck and net a bunch of mullet this particular morning.
@@ericwilliamsfishing Im just glad that hurricane stayed far enough away not to mess up your fishing.
Glad to see the fishing videos man !! What a great day on the water
Thanks Roger. I need to get back up your way and see whats going on in my normal marsh area. I bet there are both reds and flounder hitting bait on the banks.
it's that time of the year! Good stuff dude! Love it when you get a flounder when you thought you were hung up lol
I thought I was hung up all day long. It shows that they love that structure.
Ol’ Griff is a trip!! Congratulations on the slam!! Caught my first keeper flounder 2 minutes after putting in the kayak 🤣. Luckily it was the biggest of the day and didn’t break my heart.
Haha. Thats the best kind of fishing trip though!
Way to go on the slam! Agree artificials will catch a lot of fish (including junk). If, however, I'm after my one 20" flounder for dinner, live bait is the way. Last Friday on day one we went out with some borderline too big mullet. Ended up being nice because the pinfish don't bother the 6-7" mullet as much. First cast hooked up and fish got off. Second cast was dinner. Sweeter than Yoohoo. Next up, trout season, which I'm waaay more terrible at.
Lol. This comment cracked me up. I'm sure you are much better at trout than you give yourself credit for. 😂
@@ericwilliamsfishing nope. If you want a flounder, I'm your guy. Getting halfway decent at finding reds. Trout...I don't know if it's the spots, how I work baits, whatever, but I stink. I'll maybe find a dozen a season, and all minis. I've caught one keeper trout ever, and it was dragging a paddletail behind my kayak just trying to get some exercise!
Quality discussion. Artificial allows you to find and present to them covering more water. But there are some really big ones that aren't wanting to eat anything except an easy delicious live fish.
Completely agree with this and I wish I mentioned something about how you can cover so much more ground and faster with artificial. I do enjoy artificial fishing more but I also love those relaxed days where I kick back and throw the live bait down and wait. I just have to be in the right mindset.
I am scheduled to come down this weekend to try and find some flounder, weathers not looking too good for that right now
We have a pretty nasty weather system moving through in a couple days. I don't know what to tell you but I wish you luck.
Never know until you go. I hope it holds out for you.
damn make my mouth water thinking about blue crab stuffed flounder!
I bought some crab meat to do that and it was sour! Major bummer.
For numbers, I like my zman w/ pro-cure or gulp shrimp, but a fat mullet Carolina rigged has found me some quality. Glad you found a break from the wind Friday, it was nasty in FF first thing lol
I agree man. If i need a fish, gulp all day. If I have time and want to relax - soak live and wait.
Cmon now Eric. You need to break out the Fly Rod for some of those places!
Lol. That would be a great spot for that. You aren’t wrong.
great video, do you encounter a lot of lizard fish, I am a bit north of you "beaufort"
Thanks buddy. Yes sir. They are terrible in the ICW and ocean feeding flats.
Always takin some notes from your videos!😎
Whats funny is that Jon always told me about fishing in the cape fear river and this is only the second video that I have made from there. I haven't spent much time in the river but I will moving forward.
I have two PBs, one with a gulp shrimp, one with a tony mud minnow.
Everyone keeps mentioning mud minnows and I haven't really fished with them.
@@ericwilliamsfishing its the best live bait overall for flounder honestly. There are whole towns in SC that only use mud minnows and have been fishing for 50 years with all kinds of bait. You can let em soak or troll them slow on a flounder rig
Love the videos. Would I be able to catch any big flounder off the surf near wrightsville? Or would I be better going out on a kayak? I’m new to saltwater fishing.
Man, both are going to be tough. I fish areas that are really only accessible by boat. I’d say a kayak in the Intracoastal is probably going to be the easiest, hitting docks at low tide.
@@ericwilliamsfishing ok, thank you. If I’m fishing in the surf what fish should I target this time of year? I just moved into the area so I don’t know a lot about this stuff.
My opinion is artificial = quantity. Live/cut = quality
I agree with that completely. Goes with redfish too.
All shorts for me so far
I fished on opening day and caught 5 shorts, no keeps. I feel you buddy, keep grinding.
What size boat is that
16’
Endangered….. lololol
