Much appreciated! I junked music ages ago in favour of more detailed editing (close ups, pictures etc) and I think people prefer it generally. And switching to a wireless lav mic really helps with consistent and clear vocals. Not always 'perfect' but then, these aren't Pinewood Studios blockbusters, lol.
Further to my previous comment: Following on from your excellent video, I have just done the job on my Fiesta and it went exactly as you explained it. I did deviate slightly: I found it better to insert the small, square nylon type bush on the small ball joint at the rear, once greased up, then just slide it into the square hole on the end of the selector rod so didn't need to use grips. Other then that, I followed your vide step by step! Many thanks! :)

Many thanks for a superb video, a recently acquired Fiesta had just this problem. I looked as if it has recently had the gear change cables replaced and the clutch feels like a new one as well so someone has obviously had a go at fixing it previously. The hardest part of the job was undoing the 8mm bolts holding the plastic cover on. Thanks again.
Thanks for making this video. I’ve been able to apply this fix to a 5 speed 2015 mark 8 Fiesta with 70k miles. It only presented the issue exiting 2nd gear, normally after a long steep uphill climb. It would be the shift back to neutral that was very stiff, it would easily take all other forward gears in these cases. I used a pillar drill to bore out the phosphor bronze bush with a 12.2 mm bit. Upon reassembly with high temperature grease, I can confirm the issue is no longer present, even after some hard 2nd gear climbs. A notable difference on the mk 8 is that you will need to remove the gear selection sensor magnet and unplug the connector. The magnet sits next the rubber boot, removal is with a T30 Torx.

Many thanks for the guide. Just bought a 2009 Focus, with IB5 gearbox, which has stiff gears when warmed up. This repaired it and managed a 60 mile round trip today without issue )

Slowing down I'll either pull to a stop in 3rd then restart in 1st or be real careful with it and 'feel' for it going into gear. Reverse? Well, same thing... I just 'feel' for whether the gears are going to engage before lifting the clutch pedal. You should be able to feel through your hand whether the gears are meshed or not.

Nice one - I bought a fiesta ST150 a few days ago and it started to have stiff gears straight away - took it to a garage who just tried to Lube the joints, but I’d already bought the drill bit and told them what to do - amazing difference in less than 20 minutes.. thank you!
@@theaccountant8043 Hiya, mine got stiff after about 15 minutes.. basically, when the engine gets hot, it’s quite close to the gear linkage and causes a bit of expansion. Drilling the hole a bit bigger fixed it completely and cost about £40 at a garage - a pretty easy fix, and certainly worth a go before even considering replacing a gearbox. It’s a very common issue

Just bought an st150 for track use and had this exact problem, thanks for video, on test drive car was fine after an hour on motorway gear selection was very stiff thought box problem, after a bit research it was just this tight bush problem, took apart drilled out greased up hey presto all done. thank you
Couldn't even get the first gear cable off.... And I didn't want to apply heavy force since I needed the car the same day So I dowsed the pin in quite a lot of CRC 5-56 and called it a day. Maybe not a long term solution, but heck, now I can change gears with my pinky! EDIT: But I wouldn't even have tried it without this excellent video, so kudos!

@@CycloneCyd i've been under the car & it looks different. i took the cover off & the two cables aren't the same. They don't have the twisty parts where the orange nipples come out. I'll have to try & muddle through it. My daughters is a MK7 2011. cant find anything on the internet, i'm sure i'll work it out. Your video was still a great help though 👍👍👍

My wife just bought a 2006 fiesta some weeks ago. No problems with the test drive. But if the engine is hot the gear shifting is really hard. Tommorow I will try this fix. I will let you know the result.
Hey, saddly did not find it before. Tool the car to a garage the gear cables were replace, it seems better but now it seems that the shifter lever is not centered correct and to gear into 3rd we have play a bit, not really good. Is there a simple way to center it correct? I am guesing it is one of the cables
The honest answer is I don't know as we don't have the car anymore. IIRC though the cables can be adjusted at the 'box end. I should go back to the garage and ask them to readjust the cables.

Hi my issue is first gear is hard to engage , if I waggle the linage at the gear change arm it will then engage easily but then is difficult the next time you try first. All other gears are fine
Would you be able to do a gearbox oil change video for the Mk6 Fiesta please? Most of the IB5 gearboxes don't have a drain plug and the official method is to suck the oil out through the filler hole. There is a nut below the filler nut which can be removed to drain most of the which a lot of people have had success with but its apparently not advised as it can cause issues if it doesn't go back in right. But I'm guessing you know all this. I wouldn't want to remove a drive shaft to drain the oil. Cheers.

Hi, great video, really informative so thank you. Carrying out this procedure on my son's car has improved gear shifts from almost impossible to just "stiff". Are mk6 fiestas prone to stiff gear changes generally? I can't work out if there is still some kind of issue, or is it now how it should be. A lot stiffer that any other car or van I've had. I drilled out the bush to 12.5.m so wouldn't want to go any bigger.

However, if you pump the clutch or turn the car off and on again, it may shift smoothly. Does it sound like a problem this vid would fix? Cheers!
Try adjusting the clutch cable (they are cable, right? - if not, bleed the clutch). It does sound like it might be the clutch is near the end of it's life. Also check the 'box fluid level.

Try changing the 'box MTF, but it might be the clutch is on it's last legs
I have ford mondeo 2003 stiff gear 1st and reverse gear it can fix with this job
@@ratheeshkrishnan1623 most probably, my figo(fiesta) has stif 1st and 2nd and I know it's probably this or other part of the linkage.

Do you mean the plastic bush inside the gearchange arm? Notavailable seperately, you'll just have to drill out as I show.

Super detailed and useful vid, thanks very much! I've got a 2014 Ford Fiesta, North American model. It occasionally has trouble shifting into or out of gear. However, if you pump the clutch or turn the car off and on again, it may shift smoothly. Does it sound like a problem this vid would fix? Cheers!
Try adjusting the clutch cable (they are cable, right? - if not, bleed the clutch). It does sound like it might be the clutch is near the end of it's life. Also check the 'box fluid level.
i have the issue where moving across in neutral is stiff rather than into the gears up and down - would this also be the fix?
