"probably won't build firebats.. " jon.. You forgot the primary rule, one firebat per bunker you Lunker
Having never played Starcraft, can you ever eventually craft a star?
Caden T. can you craft a mine in Minecraft?
Rogue Sierra yes actually, either its a minecart or a mineshaft you can build it..
If by craft a star you mean build a fusion powered battle cruiser that's a hell of a lot like a star destroyer, than yes.
...yes
Rogue Sierra In Minecraft you can mine and craft, I don't think in Starcraft you can "star" and craft
I would love to see a series on this, I love the videos where Jon knows about the game and actively engages with it on a personal level.
Great work Jon! Your channel is literally the best thing on RUclips!
FINALLY
You've been my favorite channel for a long time but revisiting this gem of a game make you soar high above the others!
"Awaken my child and embrace the glory that is your birthright. Know that I am the Overmind, the eternal will of the Swarm and that you have been created to serve me!"
The mood and vibe of the characters and setting were so spot on in Starcraft 1. The voice acting and dialogue were fantastic. The character designs memorable.
Jon, there's an easy solution to you "200 marines is too many for control group count" dilemma - you don't make any unit control groups. I know, it's hard to comprehend, but you just drag-select them when and where you need them. Pro tip, right here.
One of not too many exceptions is muta harass flock.
This game stole my childhood and I regret nothing.
Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader: 1987
Starcraft: 1998
Obviously 40K is a rip-off of Starcraft.
The title of the video appears to be in reference to Starcraft 1 vs Starcraft 2. Not Starcraft and Warhammer 40k.
I am referencing the video from yesterday where Jon stated that he felt that Warhammer 40K was copying Starcraft.
Andrew King I think Jon meant the game mechanics of Dawn of War rather than Warhammer as a whole
Alex Twister I would like to believe that, but he compared the Protoss to the Eldar, even though their playstyles are completely different; it seemed that he was comparing them on an aesthetic level. Ah well, its nothing to get too worked up over lol
Shh. Let Jon believe what he wants.

You Must Construct Additional Pylons - i like it better

"Shooould work..."
Love you man, my fav RUclipsr, never fail to make my day better
Starcraft is literally my favorite game series of all time!
Please make a series out of this... one of my favourite games growing up and I love your commentary.
19:14 "I AM NOT IN DANGER, MENGSK! I AM THE DANGER!"
StarCraft got a lot of 'inspiration' let's say from Warhammer 40k , no doubt . (Yes warhammer 40k was first)
Dragon Blade the release dates for warhammer 40k rogue was 1987 compared to the release of starcraft in 1998 but looking at the races there are some of more obvious similiarities for example the zerg compared with the tyranids however the modern design for the tyranids came out in 1990 when their species was overhauled so they definitely came first, this being said statecraft still did a lot of original thing a and did help to create a major genre and shape it into what it is today so although it may have parroted some of its designs it still brilliant
NO Starcraft was released in 1998 not 1990
Keith Thurston thanks didn't see the mistype on my keyboard thanks for the correction
I think statecraft existed before 1990... but great info man
I always thought that a lot of Starcrafts inspiration came from the Alien (Zerg) and Predator (Protoss) movies
Jon, please do more StarCraft. Although I have already played it myself, I really enjoy hearing your insights about the game's mechanics and the plot as well. Keep up the good work
Oh my nostalgia juices are flowing like crazy...I sure had a lot of fun playing this with friends. I'll never forget the Carrier/Battlecruiser rushes we used to do in Battle.net. But I never played it quite "professional-like", so people used to rush me with anything during the first 5 minutes, from zerglings to SCVs. The story from all three campaigns were fine, but my favorite characters were definitely on the Protoss side.
jon when youre going up a ramp and marines are path blocking, stutter step them by right clicking then pushing a right click so that the damage is still consistent while allowing the others to get up
I hope to see some CnC too if we are talking strategy games :3
Yeah, the original Red Alert is easily the most fun arena RTS (if not necessarily the best) imo.
Nostalgiagasm is an understatement
Mad Miner Michael Nostaljaculation
Ah, the nostalgia. I hope you do all three campaigns.
Sweet, glad to see you playing and still enjoying the first computer game I ever played! I was introduced about 10 years ago by a Korean exchange student, and I was just thinking 10 years later is a good time to start a new campaign!
Oh God the nostalgia. This and Diablo are what turned me into a gamer.
Ohhhh the nostalgia is strong. Played this game so much over the years.
i still have my original disc copies of the original Starcraft and Brood War
still amazing
I remember playing this game when I was about 6, I couldn't even play past the first level with Sarah because that was my skill cap.
StarCraft - The original and the best. *Cuts to Goliath and Dragoon pathing* Sounds about right.
more please starcraft love
Jon playing SC1? MY MIND HAS BEEN BLOWN! This is going to be a great watch.
50:10 except the whole Psi Emitters shtick. You don't train ghost to copy their wavelengths to lure Zerg to attack worlds if you don't plan on weaponizing them.
I'm so happy they made the game free, I lost my original installations disks so I couldn't put the game on my new computer until now
damnit Jon, now I have to play starcraft again too!
I was so hoping you'd play this. I actually expected you'd wait until the Remastered was out.
I would totally be on board for a StarCraft/StarCraft Brood War series
Well, when I played the Terran campaign, I did not even notice that one could make control groups... I was pretty happy when I finally found out!
Jon, you have made my day. Thank you.
Still got the hardcopy right here. Booting it anytime I get homesick of that game :D
How did I miss this? Holy moly
Fuck just seeing that menu just blasted a tidal wave of memories into my brain.
my nostalgic RTS was Star wars Empire at war. love that game
While I much prefer Total Annihilation to Starcraft, the N64 version of SC was even better. Between the universal build menu, and the fact that it gave me medics in the base game campaign, when you add in being able to control a whopping 18 units, it's probably the absolute best version of the game.
PLEASE do the whole campaign!
But the Confedracy DID try and weaponize the Zerg: whrere did you Think the beacons came from?
I love you, thank you very much for playing this game, i will really enjoy this, i hope you make a series.
49:45 Jon, you're wrong. The Confederacy has been doing exactly that. Go play the secret mission.
One of my all time favorite games :) *nostalgic vision* :p with the very nice mix of gameplay and story :). However one of my favorite RTS missions is on Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty with is Zeratul last mission :D
Jon please make this a series and save me the trouble of fighting with poor controls.
55 minute video! I should be able to watch this all before I find a game on Rainbow 6 (currently been waiting for 5 minutes)
I see StarCraft 1, i like, simple.
I need this in my life again!!
This is awakening StarCraft tendencies for me. You gotta build turrets on high ground for better visibility. I audibly groaned when you built one right next to a ramp.
I very much preferred the background story that was set up in Starcraft 1, especially for the Zerg.
oh the story of the original Starcraft, I remember reaching the end of brood war at age 11 and being blown away by the bleakness of. at first I tried to make a happier ending in my head. But then I realised how great it was and I haven't enjoyed happy endings since
WAIT ITS FREE? :D everyone says the original starcraft graphics are bad but honestly i loved them, and i loved the plot as well. Always had the opinion that starcraft 1 > starcraft 2, and everyone thought that was weird.
Dammit Jon you never raised the speed the game is moving at a snail's pace the whole time!
Jon, if you're interested, there's a mod for Starcraft 2 called Mass Recall. It's basically Starcraft 1 in Starcraft 2 engine, and better!
Great play through idea!
That screen, ah the memories...
SERIES YOU MUST
full playthrough lets goo
just as a thing starship troopers was first then warhammer in the 80's . starcraft only started because games workshop didnt sell the rights so they made their own ip based of warhammer.
I personally am a warhammer (more specifically warhammer 40k) fan. but both have their points enjoy what you play but dont shit on another experience. love you MATN.
Jon, would you consider playing the Starcraft Precursor campaign? It was originally the demo for this game and it's canon, plus I barely see anything about it when Starcraft is discussed. It would be pretty cool for you to highlight it on your channel, you could probably fit it all into one episode.
Much luv Jon
Yeah!!
Jim Raynor? I have not heard tell of said noble, but he sounds a SUITABLE husband...
Ah yes, Starcraft, the best 40K ripoff. That spacey prog music never fails to get my nostalgia glands tingling. Totally agree that Blizzard screwed the pooch on Starcraft 2 regarding tone and story. Its like they forgot that Starcraft was a 40k ripoff originally, and therefore needed an edgy morally ambiguous tone. Instead they just made Warcraft in space.
Actually Jon, it kind of makes sense that there would be a 12 unit cap for selecting troops. Dividing your marines into squads is strategically advantageous to going in with all your troops.
This was my first pc game
Holy moly
This soundtrack makes me miss my goatee
Halfway through the video I downloaded the game and started playing having been a fan of Starcraft 2. Wehn I got to this mission I was not expecting my soldiers to start just shooting the civilians. I then made it my mission to not kill anymore of the civies. Only to find out the Protoss come along and nuke everything.
That makes 3 copies of Starcraft in my collection. 2 of which were free.
I always felt like Starcraft 2 was just an extension of the first games. I went into it like that so I didn't expect a mystery story like the first one had, to me it built on the first two. But if someone was to start on SC2 yeah, it doesn't have the story the old one had.
Any chance of a full series playthrough of SC? This was a joy to watch!
do a series please!
Just remember there's an n64 version of Starcraft out there as well. At least you have a keyboard on the pc version
yess one of my favorites
I love this mother f***ing game!!!! ive been playing battlenet every dam day for YEARS everyone join battlenet use map settings sooooooooo FUN
Yo, you can set screens to hotkeys meaning your production buildings never needed to be set to control groups.
I feel like your video title here is in response to your Warhammer 40k Dawn of War III video the other day. And that makes my heart bleed a bit for the Imperium.
That being said, between Starcraft and Starcraft II, I do agree - Starcraft was better than its sequel.
He was comparing Starcraft I to Starcraft II. Notice in the beginning of the video where Jon explains how much better Starcraft I is in comparison to Starcraft II.
TheLastShadowPigz Watch the Dawn of War video.
I will beg again. Pleeeeeeease continue doing StarCraft
Well FINE it's not like I had any plans today anyway so I GUESS I'll go download and play this because nostalgia. Moar nostalgia please :D
please do this as a series. please.
Seconded. I'd absolutely love to see Jon play through this all the way.
Why are people in the comments thinking the title of this video is directed at 40k? He's talking about how he feels the plot in Starcraft 1 + Brood War is better than 2 onward. He says this repeatedly in the video ffs.
For RTS games I loved C&C - need those cheesy cut-scenes in my life and the computer lady whining at me about how the NOD was about to kick my butt.
I was under the impression Matt Horner was supposed to be the magistrate from Rebel Yell, but apparently that's wrong. Artanis, however, is the Protoss Executor you play as.
More please Jon
PSA: To anyone who wants to try this absolute gem of a game but find the combat too unforgiving for those who just want to experience the fantastic story, cheats do exist for god mode, etc. which I won't list here but a cursory google search will reveal :3
My favort game would you please make this a series
Another good old RTS was Aliens Vs. Predators, that reminds me of the old school xbox.
is this the part when you tell us that WH40K ripped off StarCraft?
I'm pretty sure it's clear to anyone paying attention. I mean, just look at the Tyranid. A blatant rip off of the Zerg in every way. Then of course the Eldar ripping off from Protoss, Space Marines ripping off Terran? I mean, they didn't even change the name! It's Space Marine in both games! How lame can you get. To be fair though I fully expect to be downvoted for pointing all this out, since so many misogynistic Trump supporters are fervent 40k fans.
Mrs Brisby Either you HAVE or have completely FAILED to grasp sarcasm.
I do hope it is the former.
Mrs Brisby I really hope you're not being serious..
Hahaha! Brilliant post!
Brisby you best be fooling
Please play Dawn of war 1, it is by far the best DoW. Much like Starcraft 1 was the best. (on a side note, Warcraft 2 Tides of darkness was the best in that series.) Give DoW1 a shot. you will love it.
You said you were having issues seeing the differences in Dawk of War 3 between units.
How is this better?
hey jon, great episode (as usual), i was browsing through some of your older videos and rewatched 'The Curious Expedition' series you had and i thought "wow he should really play the newer version of the game on the channel with all of its newness, shininess, and indie-game-ness, i should write a abertrary comment about how he should maybe possibly pretty-please do a itsy-bitsy-miny-series to show case the changes its gone through, and make the wishes of a patron subscriber come true?" anyway so that's what I've done, and now that my message has been sent of to you in the public web of the internet, i would love to hear an opinion and some good ole fashion 'britishness'
I LOVED it and I am going to go get it .
and then 17 sunken colonies JUMPED OUT OF THE GROUND and visciosly slaughtered jon's forces. Wait that DIDN'T happen? I've been playing this game wrong.
Jon, how is Mengsk lying about the confederates breeding zerg if he didn't even assert that they did so? He just said "for all we know, they COULD be breeding the zerg". Even if he did know that wasn't the case, it's a fair assumption to make about the people who did know about the zerg, refused to take action against them and arrested the militia protecting settlements from the zerg.
Anyone else play the n64 version of StarCraft?
I'd love to see Jon play Company of Heroes.
