Hey everyone, been reading all the comments here and I would just urge you all to try to be a bit nicer to each other please. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and whether you are defending my performance or criticizing it, it makes me sad to read people attacking each other. There is so much conflict in the world right now we don't need to be fighting over anime. Anime fans are still a minority group and we ought to come together and support each other. So lets just let bygones be bygones and start afresh 'Kay?
If you were put off by the dub trailer please go see the film subtitled. It is a beautiful movie. It my favorite movie of the year actually. I would really like to see the film do well. I personally will be going to both the sub and dub and pay for my own tickets! Many people worked hard on this. Of course, I would love it if people gave the dub a chance even if you don't see that version in the theaters but I understand if that's not your cup of tea. If it makes you feel better the film is pretty complicated and I almost use three different voices for story reasons I don't want divulge *spoilers* and hopefully when seen in context of the entire film you will appreciate it a bit more. You do excellent work and I WILL see this movie and buy it and watch it dubbed because you have done good work in all the roles I've seen you do!!!!

This dub sounds absolutely amazing. This isn't the 90's anymore where most dubs were absolute dogshit. This dub is actually good.

I do think the dub sounds fine to my ears, but I want to add that not every dub in the 90s was bad. There were some gems back then.

I literally got so emotional when i see Mitsuha Miyamizu reading the text written by Taki might evoke strong emotions. The scene beautifully captures the connection between the two characters despite the constraints of time and space. It's a poignant moment that resonates with many viewers.❤

How was it? Was the dub good, or at least not bad? From the trailer it sounds kind of cringey in spots, mainly Mitsusha's character.
Hey! Sorry for the long response. I didn't notice your comment until now. I personally enjoyed the dub and honestly, the English voice actor for Mitsuha really didn't do a bad job at all. I didn't notice any big problems as I was so engrossed into the film.

Just as I thought... sub fans are getting upset over nothing. I know NYAV Post and they've done good work in the past, and to call this one of the worst dubs of all time... that doesn't seem very fair or just. I've seen my share of truly horrible dubs, and this doesn't even come close to reaching that bottom-barrel territory. I don't understand the hate, honestly.

Not sure if the dub works out well by judging this trailer, but yeah we'll see how it works out during the full hours of the film.

Masterpiece. Pure magic and total fanaticism in audiovisual.The story is simple but thrilling and nice.
As someone who mostly prefers dubs, I've seen this both dubbed and subbed and hands down- the sub is better.
Rooney id prefer Latino or Japanese subbed to either English or Spanish, if not English. No offense but English sounds less passionate
Buxenwolf Well, I'm not fluent in Japanese and don't know a single word of Spanish that's not "amigo", "si", or Spanish dish; so I guess I'm stuck with the "less passionate" English subs.
Rooney hope didn't offend you, wouldn't mind showing you examples if you'd let me. Is all about the tone. Frieza cones to mind, the Japanese version sounds like someone who is ultra cocky, so does the Latino one but with a hint of aristocracy tone. Whereas English sounds like an annoying fat child or something.

Yup i like it, the girl's voice sounds a bit off but you'll get used to it during the film, it's executed wonderfully and i don't see any need for judging before watching it dubbed first.

Japanese animation: small cellphone detail looks beyond real... human face looks like 8 year old drew it.
Frankly, I prefer it that way. Making an inanimate object look realistic is fairly easy. Making a human face look that way is SO very easy to get wrong.

Funimation tend to overuse their popular VA's so I'm never surprised at the amount of miscast I see.
I hate how even professional movie critics are comparing this movie to Spirited Away. Your Name was absolutely magnificent, but story wise and with everything else put together made Spirited Away a masterpiece and I don't think any other anime movie has topped it. But even with that said, Your Name and Spirited Away are so different from each other that they're not even comparable. I really wish people will stop comparing Shinkai to Miyazaki :/

Just watched it in cinemas thought it was going to be subbed turned out to be dubbed XD but you know what I loved it nonetheless dub was actually pretty good think it was done really well I can barely differentiate when I watched the dub didn't feel wrong.

I saw the movie. It just stays in you. What an amazing movie! and the music score fits perfectly.
The dub didn't do it for me at first but It settled in quite quickly and definately didn't detract from the film as a whole. The film is excellent, by the way.

The Japanese version actually used real actors instead of voice actors. The dubbed version should have done the same like how Disney does their dubs. Voice actors are good for normal anime but for feature film, this is really underwhelming.

I'm surprised how much hate there is for Stephanie Sheh's performance... First, I don't know how anyone can judge a whole movie's performance from a less than 2 minute preview.
Second, her high pitched-ness reminds me of how a lot of Japanese actresses portray young girls in anime anyway... So personally I hear nothing wrong with her voice... But hey, I guess I can understand if you've seen the original and are used to that voice. As for me, I'm going to enjoy the dub version no matter. That's why it's great it will be showings in both sub and dub, everyone can get what they want!

I hope I didn't sound too confrontational, as everyone is definitely entitled to thier opinions, I just think it's disrespectful to be trash talking so hard against someone, criticisms against her performance are one thing, but it's something else to be insulting a voice actor as some comments here are doing, especially against someone who's as talented as Stephanie Sheh... And perhaps people's criticisms of her performance are legitimate, I just know when I heard her in this trailer, I was reminded of her performances as Yui from K-On! and Mikuru from Haruhi Suzumiya, this performance seems to share the same tone of adorableness, so maybe that's why I have no problems at all with her voice... But still, I think the small handful of lines in this trailer are definitely not enough to judge the whole movie's performance. But yeah, whatever people say, I'm definitely seeing this in theaters dubbed and will undoubtedly enjoy it fully! And I hope those seeing it either dubbed or subbed will enjoy it as much as I will!

In japanese trailer its exactly the same, they say it with implied question, a japanese person would take exactly what you get out of this trailer dubbed. Just saying "kimi no nawa/your name" makes no sense unless its that. Besides it follows right after they are asking each other "who are you?"
Hell, if you google translate kimi no na wa it literally translates into "What is your name?" .

Normally I dislike dubs. Went into the cinema without knowing what format it would be in and audibly groaned when they started speaking but I eased into it pretty well. Some slight issues with lip sync near the beginning but the voice work is all pretty good!

So I'm going to comment about how awesome this movie is an not moan like everyone else about the voices, because I love both sub and dub.
This movie is absolutely worth watching and it kept me on the edge of my seat when things started really unfolding, still gets me emotional thinking about it. Without a doubt this movie left a mark with me and I want to buy the bluray! Beautiful visuals and story

If people want to watch subs, that's fine; they should enjoy their anime the way they want to enjoy it.

The whole "breathy delivery in an attempt to sound mystical or some shit" is a trend I've noticed about dub acting recently. It sounds so stilted most of the time.
Leetao Chakkreytap, Yes he's not bad at all, I really liked him in Summer Wars. But the girl is godawful. She has that "is actually 40 years old but trying to sound like a peppy teenager" vibe going on that I absolutely despise in anime dubbing.

Fun fact: the VA of Taki also voiced Kazuki Shimada( high school one though) in Koe no katachi...also VA of Mitsuha voiced Shoya Ishida’s sister.
