Damn this week suddenly i watch so many anime, and i heard about "kimi no na wa" and then i tried to watch it.. and damnnn.. that was mindblowing af! One of the best Japan's animation movie ever!
Fun fact: actually when they’re swapping bodies, sometimes their phones’ home screens will appear showing whatever date it is. On 12th September, on Taki’s phone it says “12 September, Monday” but then on Mitsuha’s, it says “12 September, Thursday.” Which is a hint in the early stage of the movie showing that they are not in the same year because the day of the week isn’t the same. (if you can notice it).
Dont want to ruin the movie but, if they always use their smartphone as a reminder, why haven't they discovered that theyre completely on diffrent year?
Cikal Ephraim well their phone didn’t show what year were they in and they were kinda just studying or working all times that they had no chance to actually have a chance to see the year. Like when is the last time of you seeing “2020” other then on news, TV or the internet?
Also, when you wake up and found yourself in the body of a different person and in a different town, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be thinking "Hmm, what's the month day and year today?"
Paulo Lacdo-o Yeah, and they thought it was a dream or something at the beginning so they didn’t really cared about it, they assumed it’s the same date and day.
@@Chesteritea umm there is. Oh nvm its not part 2 its just an new movie of the director called "Weathering with you" and u know Taki and mitsuha make some cameo there.
Taki Gathering Up courage and saying, "Haven't we met before?" Is a huge lesson, sometimes you need to trust yourself too, Guess what would've happened, if he would've just walked passed her? All of those theaters seats would've been on Fire
That's basically how "5 Centimeters per Second" ends. It's one of Shinkai's earlier films with like the same characters and themes of time but it's really depressing.
I cried a little at the end when they asked: "What's your name?". I cried cause after so much they finally met each other in the same timeline and they could now be together. I think this is an appropriate ending and the movie seems complete. I imagine them going on a date and rediscovering each other in the present timeline.
yeah, me too, but I just watched weathering with you, and there is scenes where mitsuha and taki are in, and I knew it was a multiverse but for some reason it looks like they don't know each other.
Can you please explain how the village survived? Because when Taki is in his journey to meet Mitsuha , the records says that the village is gone and people died including Mitsuha and her friends. It's still confusing though. That is the only part I can't get through in the movie lmao hahaha.
Gian Lester, the village survived on what Taki did. He went back to Itomori and swapped bodies with Mistuha again but since he knew what will happen, he did what he had to do. That instance where they went back stating that Mitsuha was dead, it was changed when Kari went to the mountain and everything changes when Itomori was saved. That first event where Kari and his friends came to know that Mitsuha died, that's the initial event BUT when Kari and Mistuha talked and decided to saved the town in exchange of losing memories of each other, everything changes.

I really love the little details in their body swapping. My favorite is when Mitsuha (in Taki's body) falls out of Taki's bed. Because she sleeps in a futon on the ground, it makes sense she'd roll too far, not thinking she could fall. Love it.
But bro imagine you forget about this movie like completely you don’t Even remember it’s name 😂 or that it even exists & so u never get to watch it. So yh let’s just remember the good old memories
Taki writing I love you was actually the best thing he could do because if it were his name Mitsuha would easily forget it just as the memories they've had, but writing I love you causes them to remember a feeling, a feeling that they have been searching for until the met at the end.
@@seanrodz3440 thank you for explaining cause i really thought it was something stupid and more stupid to give her the braided cord that connected them

I am confused that people are confused by the ending; she told her dad to evacuate, her dad listened, comet hit but they are safe, 3 years later he heard on the news comet hit, he couldnt remember who this déjà vu feeling, they both missed each other like crazy and felt their lives empty, then finally riding a train they saw each other and heart went boom, rushed back to meet halfway, but felt awkward not knowing what to say(what if the other person thought they are crazy), passed each other on the stairs but just as he reached the top he courageously turn around and called out to her, and they both were crying but happy and asking ur name is is a way to say hello this is my name, like all relationship start. From then on they definitely end up together . The end
junel 1023 They switched bodies BUT Mitsuha experienced it first in 2013 and Taki experienced the switched bodies with a 3 year delay in 2016. That's why Taki didn't recognize her on the train when she gave him the ribbon. Then in the twilight scene (after Taki drinks the Sake to transport back in time), 2016 Taki (with Mitsuha inhabiting his body) and 2013 Mitsuha (with Taki inhabiting her body) meet in the underworld where time and space converge, then they switch back to their original bodies and Mitsuha carries out Taki's plan and Itomori's residents evacuate. Hey guys, i am from Tokyo. I am originally an Indian but i shifted here many years back, so I am a Japanese now :) Actually i wanted to tell you guys why the japanese loved this movie so much. Well. No doubt the beautiful portrayal of romance and emotions was something everyone loved but there was a cultural impact on the Japanese people as well. Modern Japan faces the problems of increasing urban population. The teens living in small towns are longing to come to cities and they hate the boring life there. So what mitsuha, who hated her town actually learnt from the switching is that... She realized the importance of her town somewhere deep in her heart. She realized that people of tokyo just come and go away, whereas her town felt connected, like a family and esp the scene when taki goes through her memories and he sees that scene where her mother dies, you can see that many people of her town had come for her funeral. She also understood that taki also had his own problems, that city life was also very difficult. And she really was devastated to see her town get destroyed. This was what hit the japanese audience to the core because everyone started missing their hometowns, they realized how culturally rich these towns were and the portrayal of braided cords and the shrine dance was so realistically well that people cried in that scene itself, that's why people loved it so much. The cultural realistic portrayal amplified the people's love of the film even more. If you read this comment, arigato!! I might have spent your time, sorry for that. Hope you have a nice day :)
Why was she worrying about it at that point though? If everyone was gonna die, including me, if I didn't hall ass and do what I needed to do, I would focus on doing that thing all the way. It wouldn't matter what do or don't remember if you's gonna die. I found that part really hokey.
I never cry during movies But this was the first one that got me crying - multiple times. First when Taki wrote "I love you", and the second at the end of the movie. I didn't even know if I was crying out of happiness, or sadness - just... crying This is by far THE BEST movie I have ever seen, just an absolute masterpiece
The part that made me cry was when Mitsuha was running and then fell and when she saw her hand instead of Taki's name, he wrote I LOVE YOU. It was so beautiful and my heart was touched. Whenever I repeat that scene, I just can't get enough. Truly an amazing movie.
2NE1 BIGBANG WINNER BLACKPINK iKON are my baes Well, for me that was an unreadable japanese sign( I though Taki wrote his name on her hand,I trusted him)
2NE1 BIGBANG WINNER BLACKPINK iKON are my baes, Mitsuha's grandma told her after they put the sake into the cave, "if you get the power of god then you will lose your most important in exchange." So Mitsuha and Taki both got the power and they lost each others name wich are the most important to them. BUT BECAUSE OF DESTINY of course they are STILL GONNA BE WITH EACN OTHER
Jacopo Dam, what if he REALLY DID WRITE HIS NAME but because he drank the sake he lost the most important ... to him which is MITSUHA (her name) *also maybe when Mitsuha was SUPPOSED to WRITE HER NAME on Taki's palm she quickly vanishes because taki drank her sake and they can't do anything because of the legend ...
I just rewatched this today and I noticed that she does write her name on his hand earlier in the movie and you can tell when she begins writing on his palm at the end that it was going to be a completely different word
This movie had a core message. Love can break through everything, even time and fate, and they delivered it really well. Im not sad they forgot about each other, because they will get to fall in love for each other again, and that's what the whole movie was leading up to. I didnt find the movie sad at all, although I did cry a bit in the "I love you" part and when they met after 5 years, but the later were tears of joy.
For me, it was a sad movie because of what the movie says about time. The movie has a very happy ending, but all it made me think about was all the time that I've wasted. All the things I never did when I was growing up, all the stuff I avoided, and how I'll never get to go back and try those things again. I'll never know what it's like to experience silly, naive teenage love because I'm about 13 years past due on that one. And it's not even limited to awkward lovey dovey stuff either, just life in general. There are so many things I've missed out on that I'll never get to go back and experience from that time in my life ever again. I'll never get to do any of that over, and I'll never get any of that time back either. It hit me so hard that even a day after watching it all I could think about was the time I've wasted. Nothing has ever moved me like this. It also goes beyond emotions like this, too. The movie was very much a callback to 3/11, the events of which shook the entire population of Japan and the effects of it were felt worldwide. Imagine if you could go back in time and just undo that, save loved ones from certain death? Taki and Mitsuha got a second chance at their lives because they got to unravel the threads of time and start over. You can't do that in real life, and even thinking about it now it's hard not to cry about it.
My heart stopped when the pen dropped while Mitsuha was writing her name in Taki's palm and I totally lost it when Taki shouted out "what's your name" at the crater. When Mitsuha saw what he had written in her palm, I got so teary eyed I had to wipe them tears away furiously cos they were obstructing my vision.
I've watched this 11 times in order to get the ending! In my point of view, the ending is not really cliffhanger. When Taki and Mitsuha asked each other: "kimi no...namae wa?" which translates to "what's Your Name?", what they really are doing is starting their lives togther again and they are going know each other all over again. The ending is so beautiful and heartwarming, I cried so hard! PS: At the end of Weathering With You, (the film after "Your Name.") Taki and Mitsuha got married! I'm so proud of these cinnamon rolls!
@@al7392 It's seen in the light novel of Weathering With You! When the male protagonist sees the wedding photo of Taki and Mitsuha. In the movie, Taki's grandmother is wearing a braided cord on her wrist made by Mitsuha. And the director confirmed it at an interview
And what would the sequel be about? Don’t get me wrong, I also really want to see if they got together but they can’t make another hour and thirty long movie that’s just about them getting together
reason why taki wrote " i love you" on mitsuha's hand and why they able to meet up again was because Tsukiyomi (moon god who is associated to red string of fate legend) protected those feeling from being erased
trycon40 I really don't know, I just don't know but i get the feeling that Mitsuha will write "I love you" too on Taki's hand, if she only had the time writing on it to him.
trycon40 nah buddy, the thing that will make them forget will take away any traces of them meeting... by memories, by phone (which you see when taki tries to check got all deleted) and even by handwriting on her hand, that thing will erase everything connecting them, zero, nada. So what taki wrote, "i love you" is the best possible thing to do cuz if anything that looks like they might connect will get erased, so at least she knows that someone loves her and never forgets, same goes with taki... Im just really glad they didnt move on like normal people and got gf/bfs after years of imagining "SOMEONE LOVES ME, BUT I DONT KNOW WHO THE HELL HE/SHE IS!"
Jaydinator Ahtanamax what musubi took was their "memories" but the "feeling" they shared for each other where not erased. if you want a more in-depth explanation check out Your Name Timeline Explained | Kimi No Na Wa | 君の名は。- The Kumihimo Theory [SPOILERS] by Silver Screen Otaku
Tubble Stop Hey, keep your hating on this movie on your mind, because some people here love "Your Name", and if you say that people might start to fight between opinions
I finally got around to checking out Your Name after a few of my friends recommended it. I felt the same way. At first I wasn't really sure how to feel about it, but as the movie went on it started to grow on me. And then the credits rolled. This movie hit me on so many levels that I don't know how to really describe it. I don't think I've ever been so moved by something before. It was a sad tale that got a really nice, happy ending. I should be happy that the two of them got what they needed. But I'm not. What makes it so upsetting for me is it just made me think about all the time that I've wasted. It made me think about all the things I've missed out on experiencing, all the things I neglected to do when I was younger, and how I'll never get to experience those things from that time in my life ever again. It made me feel so uncomfortable and threw me off so badly that even a day after watching it, I couldn't stop thinking about all the things I've not done with my life. All this time that I've wasted doing nothing, and how I'll never EVER get it back. Even thinking about it now is bringing tears to my eyes. This movie gave me an existential crisis, and that's what makes it so good to me. On the surface it's a tacky romantic comedy with a side of Freaky Friday, it's got a confusing and weird plot with time travel and magic and all sorts of weirdness like that. People can poke through all the plot holes all they want. The adventure itself isn't what moved me. It was the lasting message after it was over that hit me like a freight train. Taki and Mitsuha got a second chance with their lives by unraveling the threads of time and starting over. I think we all wish we could do something like that, too. This might explain why a majority of the box office success for this movie came from ~30 year olds who were so enthralled with the concept that they watched it multiple times, and not from the expected target audience of teenagers.
@@spartan456 So true mate. It's been 2 weeks since I've watched it. My friends forced me to watch it last year but I was too busy with other anime especially bleach. They eventually gave up. After getting fed up of studying for 9 hours straight without any break, my brain was completely exhausted and so 2 weeks ago I decided I'd give it a try. Bad timing. I think I should've waited until May 2020 i.e, after my entrance exam cause now I'm unable to get over it. I thought that the rush and celebrations of Diwali will help ease the effect but damn was I wrong. Even today, 2 weeks later that is, I can feel the cortisol rushing in my blood as I think about Kimi no na wa and the sound of Mitsuha whispering _taki kun_ resonates in my ear. No Hollywood film/Netflix/American series has been able to affect me so strongly. I just want to forget that I ever watched this movie and carry on with my life as it was earlier. You may say I'm being over dramatic but if I weren't I wouldn't be here @ 3am even though I have to get up at 6 and move my ass to college. Also another mistake that I did was watch Koe no Katachi the very next day and binge read its manga the consecutive day. So now I am a bag of mixed emotions and I don't know where should I dump all of these. I guess the last anime that was close to moving me this much was Code Geass (a must watch I'd say). Same. Like they constantly felt the pull but they didn't do anything to the end and I was so scared that would be the last chance they get and just not do it
it brings back memories when watching the movie for the first time and makes you watch it again. which is a testament to the film's immense quality, there are not many pieces of art that can have such an emotional impact on so many people.
mari garcia you should. The good thing about the movie of Makoto Shinkai is there are always meanings behind it, and his trailers usually show you what the movies are about, but you cannot expect how things happen in the movie and what the ending will be like.
Kenji XD The music is called "Mitsuha's No theme" i really don't know but i feel really nostalgic about it even though i didn't heard it at the movie, not even a little, not at all.
I thought it was obvious that they became a couple in the end because despite Taki and Mitsuha forgetting their time together, they both kept saying how no matter how quick time passed for them, they always had this feeling that something was missing from their memory. A promise. A feeling. A someone who was close to them. This itself should of implied that despite Taki and Mitsuha severing the tie so they could no longer be connected, there was already a long lasting connection that intertwined with their fate. Especially when at the end, both Taki and Mitsuha were crying as they passed each other, implying that their memory knew each other at one point, and was trying to make them understand that in the end, their search to find that someone, that feeling, that promise they made, they finally reunited.
Fun fact: Mitsuha's mom is called Futaba (双葉) which means Double Leaves or Two Leaves. Their name scales by 1 for every person of their lineage after the Grandma Hitsuha, (1 leaf). The mom Futaba (2 leaves), Mitsuha (3 leaves) and her sister Yotsuha (4 leaves).
Taki: "Let's write our names so we won't forget" Also Taki: * *wrote I love you* * WELL DAMN THESE FEELS. But then I thought Taki's really smart, since he knew theres a possiblity that if he wrote his name it would just disappear(just like the diary entries) so he wrote I love u instead!!! ARGH I STAN A SMART HANDSOME TOKYO BOY
Interesting analysis. This movie has so many layers like I didnt know that about the names meaning leaves. I've seen it 4 times in theaters because it speaks to me about the humanity of strangers. How a mass of people will mean nothing until we feel their humanity and then will do almost anything to rescue them
Rachel Wagner I've seen it 6 times in the only theater that's featuring this film, can't get enough of it. I feel like it's such a breath of fresh air, cuz unlike most of Hollywood movies with similar plot devices, this film speaks to the heart rather to the mind, and i love it so much xD
You're lucky enough that you could rewatch the movie in theatres, wherever you are in your country... I could only watched it once and that's just because I happened to be at a place where there's many theatres showing it, I mean Kuala Lumpur... heck, Your Name is on all 3 largest theatre chains in Malaysia (GSC / Golden Screen Cinema, TGV / Tanjong Golden Village, MBO / MCAT Box Office) though not all branches actually screen them... after I get back to college room (in Perlis) from there (8 hours journey by express bus) then I can't really watch anything unless I have enough time (because of classes), enough money (transport is usually 2 times higher than movie ticket price) and enough energy (to walk & wait for transport) because the only theatre that shows Your Name that is near enough is quite far from my room. I think the nearest is around 160km away. Most of the time, I would only watch anime movie once (exception: LoveLive! The School Idol Movie where I watched twice, premiere screen and normal screen) because it's hard to get to the theatres that screened them... I did wrote an article on my journey to watch some anime in my blog/website, I'll just leave it here in case anyone wants to read how hard it is to go watch anime movie here (it's not Your Name though, it's some other 2 animes ... but you could see the hardship, it's the same hardship) en.mnh48.com/2017/03/my-experience-watching-two-anime-movie.html
For anyone who doesn't know, when Mitsuha was about to write on Taki's hand she wrote a horizontal line but the first syllable of her name is "mi" which starts with a vertical line. So she wasn't going to write her name but instead something else, the most probable word would be す which starts with a horizontal line which also could lead to her writing "I love you" like Taki. credits:iMands
"We're switching places?!!?!?!?" Then enter the RADWIMPS music really is my favorite scene!!!! The soundtracks I believe really adds up to the overall charm of this movie.
The whole time I was confused but yet heartfelt, so much that everything I've known from animated movies have changed. This is not like any other movie I've seen, and is unique. It went from silly, to beautiful and heartfelt, every moment was a wallpaper, and the ending hit your heart like a meteor falling down
at the first hour and a half it's the most confusing anime I've ever seen then it hits you hard with emotions and the stress they both have to find each other I believe they could've been given some dialogue in the end but at least it's safe to say they're together
I'm struggling to find where and when they switch bodies sometimes, though it's obvious but feels off at times, nevertheless the emotions still hit me hard.
They got together. However since the disaster was averted, the memories are wiped away. Get the book written by Makoto Shinkai (I just finished reading it), it explains everything and more that the anime didn't mention.
Honestly when he says its incomplete, I thought the whole thing felt like watching a series compressed into a movie. I still love this movie very much but I do agree the story could've been expanded on.
I felt that the romance development part was a bit lacking. Felt a bit surprised to see Takki liking Mitsuha so much just after a short period of time. Perhaps there was no explanation to it - just their red thread of destiny.
I loved it. And I think people call Shinkai "next Miyazaki" because they sense his importance for anime, not because they compare their art itself. Am I being too optimistic?
Name me a single fucking Miyazaki film that is better written than Kimi no Na Wa. A SINGLE ONE. Ghibli movies aren't known for their story structure or plot, they are known for their characters and the beautiful animation. Kimi no Na Wa has some of the tightest and most cohesive storytelling in an animated movie that I've ever seen. In one regard I do agree with you. Shinkai won't be a better animator than Miyazaki for a very long time. In fact he may never be. However he has already passed him in aces and spades in the writing and directing department. Miyazaki couldn't produce something like Your Name in two lifetimes.
Guys, seriously? Comparing the real OG and the new generation? Shinkai's "next Miyazaki" is just a praise for how successful his movies are. Now that Kimi no Na Wa is his glorious crown for defeating champion Spirited Away highest grossing that are made more than a decade ago. For his importance in anime, I don't think Shinkai is suited for that though unlike Miyazaki influence on anime community. Probably Shinkai has influenced the world. People are starting to realize Shinkai's movie is clusterfuck of beautiful art. Tech evolve and so do art and story.
I think they compare the two director based on the fact that those two both created masterpieces, which both did huge ticket sales (that's why they compare Your Name with Spirited Away). But well, when you are compared with somebody, it is frustrated, and usually we never love that feeling though, at least i can feel that part from Makoto.
When she saw "I love you" written on her hand instead of Taki I started tearing up And when they asked each other what their name was at the end i started crying.
My boyfriend hates anime and when we watched 'Your Name' or 'Kimi No Nawa' he absolutely, LOVED it. I was shocked he thought the movie was extremely, beautiful both plot-wise and graphic-wise and I couldn't agree more it was such a wonderful film!
Honestly, Asian Cinema in general. As someone with an international background living in Asia, I can personally tell you how much better asian movies are compared to Hollywood in terms of quality or culture. You can tell from the Asian directors that they produce movies based heavily on their cultural upbringing and their personal beliefs. They make movies because they want to the audience have a glimpse into their memories, their past experiences , and not because they have to fulfill coorporate demands.
I feel like maybe the dates (day+month) did match up, but just not the year - Which as they were switching maybe wouldn’t be as noticeable? Especially if you’re already assuming you’re in the same time. That’s how I rationalized it anyway.
There i manga "Your Name - Earth Bound" in 2 volumes containing all the stuff missing in the film. For all that content was no time to put into. Thats why Shintai calls it "incomplete".
@@tahj9476 To be fair, there's a reason for this. She was going to write "I love you" as well. We've seen Mitsuha write her name before, many times. The starting hiragana for her name starts with a downward curve. But when she goes to write on Taki's hand, she starts with a straight horizontal line. "I love you" written in hiragana also starts with a straight horizontal line. Neither of them were planning on writing each other's names, and the reason why is because, at this point in the movie, they are both probably familiar enough with the situation they're in to understand that names don't do much for either of them. If they actually did write down their names, eventually they would forget the meaning to them. Just like how they both forgot each other's names shortly after Twilight ended. They would have had some random name on their hands and not known who it was or what the significance of the name was supposed to be. But something like "I love you" from a person you fell in love with from what is basically a previous life? That might stick with you, and this is a super common theme throughout the movie. Both Taki and Mitsuha know they're looking for something but they don't know what it is. All they have is a feeling, they know there is something missing from their life and they have no idea how to find it. It's like remembering something from a dream. And this movie even exemplifies that several times. It can be very hard to remember specific things from a dream, but the feelings never leave you. You can feel them so vividly but the specifics of them are blurry and inconceivable. Feelings are eternal, and that's why Taki wrote "I love you", and why Mitsuha was planning on doing the same.
I explain it to you the two are not know each other and the places. The choronogical of the stories when they switch like they in a new timeline in their dreams where its before the timeline where it feels in the time in real world then they feels like they are in different character that they feel in a dream that they can stop or think what will be the scenario of the timeline in their dreams it means, that the dreams are in a constant scenarios where in if they not see what will coming because they know it is a dream that will forget after they dream it. They will not know the consequence if they not believe that the dreams are real so they want to stop the upcoming twist that will story goes on.
Joe Plasma I have watched "5 cms per second" 2 hours ago and I hate it more than anything else coz of the fucked up ending. I felt so happy when they met on 4th March but the ending is engraved in my mind and saddens me more. I can cry just by remembering that the girl was engaged to someone else.
no t cool Can you plz tell me if ending of Kimi no na wa is sad or satisfying, coz I really want to see this but can't handle sad endings. Plot can be super sad but ending should be happy or atleast satisfying. People say its bittersweet, so........?????
it’s been 2 years but i still comebck here there’s something with your voice and your story telling that is so compelling and somewhat satisfying. I love how the bgm simply ignites connection with you and your audience. I love this.
The Adventure of Arsy yeah, if you know The Dark Knight Rises from C. Nolan, he said that with the good story which is finished incomplete make better impression to the audience, make them wonder is it good or bad ending, but we know it's happy ending
"And finds out SHE DED" "Mitsuha saves the village AND SHE AINT DED" "pause to ask "whats your name?" and END CREDITS" "Before enteing the priesthood. YA HYPOCRITE" What am I doing
I didn't find it funny. Yes, endearing, but bittersweet at most. It shows that, whether or not Mitsuha remembers his name, he wants her to remember that, at some point, there's this guy that loves her in spite of their huge difference (in timeline, more than any), that the existence of the guy and his love for her is not just a bizarre illusion or a vivid dream.
I am failing to understand how this movie is “incomplete”. Sure, there is time traveling and multiverse theory involved, but how hard is it to grasp vs. an enchanted rose, a talking grandma tree, sentient gargoyles, an entire cast of talking wildlife, and Michael Bay making Transformers battle in the city vs. open spaces because blowing up buildings sells more?
Tbh I already understood the plot of this film but having this video to make a concise summary and put it all together was a really nice thing I didn’t know I needed. Also had no clue the lakes represented infinity, trains representing the two ‘destinies’ and the camera angles changing during the switch scenes. Great vid, keeping it concise without losing the details! (Ik u prob won’t see this comment but the fact still remains true❤)
Makoto Shikai draws reality in his works. In this movie to; he does the same. Instead of making the movie an idealistic fairy tale he just made it natural. Making the time travel to be a dream and the ending. The ending just shows that they remember the feels but forget the physical details. They forget name and all but since now Taki has drunk a part of her they both search for each other as they are now like 2 halfs of a soul. Also the end symbolises start of a fresh relationship. One in a sense of real world. One where they will start from the "name".
I just finished watching it and then i come here for more insight on the events since this has so much detail im sure ive missed alot of things... and this man straight up tells to stop rewatching it...

Woww, you are so detailed person. I cant notice that detail hahah. Thanku!

They switched bodies BUT Mitsuha experienced it first in 2013 and Taki experienced the switched bodies with a 3 year delay in 2016. Movie carries out till the end.

But this was the first one that got me crying - multiple times. First when Taki wrote "I love you", and the second at the end of the movie. I didn't even know if I was crying out of happiness, or sadness - just... crying

Same. That part got me good
I cried so hard when Mitsuha was gonna write her name on his hand, then the pen just , fell and she was gone.

She was actually going to write “I love you” as well , you can assume as much by the single stroke she does make
I just rewatched this today and I noticed that she does write her name on his hand earlier in the movie and you can tell when she begins writing on his palm at the end that it was going to be a completely different word
Is it bad that I laughed because it was so abrupt?
Still prefer silent voice
the RELIEF i felt when they finally asked for each other’s names
This movie had a core message. Love can break through everything, even time and fate, and they delivered it really well. Im not sad they forgot about each other, because they will get to fall in love for each other again, and that's what the whole movie was leading up to. I didnt find the movie sad at all, although I did cry a bit in the "I love you" part and when they met after 5 years, but the later were tears of joy.
True
Yeah and if you can travel through time, you can do anything you want, like prevent death.
"They'd feel entertained even if the're confused"
Dang that's completely true
My heart stopped when the pen dropped while Mitsuha was writing her name in Taki's palm and I totally lost it when Taki shouted out "what's your name" at the crater. When Mitsuha saw what he had written in her palm, I got so teary eyed I had to wipe them tears away furiously cos they were obstructing my vision.

U sound so much like a teen dude

Me too. Got me so hard.
The ending is so beautiful and heartwarming, I cried so hard!

trycon40 I really don't know, I just don't know but i get the feeling that Mitsuha will write "I love you" too on Taki's hand, if she only had the time writing on it to him.
trycon40 nah buddy, the thing that will make them forget will take away any traces of them meeting... by memories, by phone (which you see when taki tries to check got all deleted) and even by handwriting on her hand, that thing will erase everything connecting them, zero, nada.

Before the Movie
Me: oh another lame ass love story, how boring..
After The Movie
Me: *cries* where are the god damn tissue?!?!?!

Dane Walzer We want to *see* it. We already know that it probably happens, it's just that we haven't actually seen it
Liam-Ethan Wallis you don’t need to, not all films need an ending like that.
Dane Walzer I know, we're simply saying that we'd like to see such a thing. Some people just have different preferences about how plots are tied up
The ending where Taki says "Haven't we net before" really shows that when you are trusting your instincts,it can actually turn out to be true! What if after all this struggle, they just walked past each other?Thank you for making the ending a perfect one as for me!I can totally imagine them together. This movie is about feelings, instincts, timelines, traditions, modernisation and everything we would really imagine or talk about in the present world! It will never die out, more people will definitely see this even after many years..it is EVERGREEN....

Shouldnt you be comparing it to Endgame instead? Since both are time travel movies about changing fate lol
Yes Kimi no nawa is the best
Absolutely

its kind of hard to compare an anime and a marvel movie
I got so frustrated when they just kept walking past each other
Same. Like they constantly felt the pull but they didn't do anything to the end and I was so scared that would be the last chance they get and just not do it
for some reason I cried at the end of the video

mari garcia you should. The good thing about the movie of Makoto Shinkai is there are always meanings behind it, and his trailers usually show you what the movies are about, but you cannot expect how things happen in the movie and what the ending will be like.

Reuben Tirkey I completely agree
Wait until you see Les Enfants Du Paradis.
I did wrote an article on my journey to watch some anime in my blog/website, I'll just leave it here in case anyone wants to read how hard it is to go watch anime movie here (it's not Your Name though, it's some other 2 animes ... but you could see the hardship, it's the same hardship)
en.mnh48.com/2017/03/my-experience-watching-two-anime-movie.html
Rachel Wagner Well you should check A Silent Voice, it has a lot of emotion and about the human qualities.
For anyone who doesn't know, when Mitsuha was about to write on Taki's hand she wrote a horizontal line but the first syllable of her name is "mi" which starts with a vertical line. So she wasn't going to write her name but instead something else, the most probable word would be
す
which starts with a horizontal line which also could lead to her writing "I love you" like Taki.

The whole time I was confused but yet heartfelt, so much that everything I've known from animated movies have changed. This is not like any other movie I've seen, and is unique. It went from silly, to beautiful and heartfelt, every moment was a wallpaper, and the ending hit your heart like a meteor falling down
Why does Japanese anime make you cry always still your name is soo left me without words
xxgamerguyxx What
at the first hour and a half it's the most confusing anime I've ever seen then it hits you hard with emotions and the stress they both have to find each other
I believe they could've been given some dialogue in the end but at least it's safe to say they're together
@Bronze Azir Same name. Makoto-san made the anime first and then wrote the book.

Thank you! I didn't know there was a book!
Miyazaki isn't even that good, so no, I wouldn't call it too optimistic.

Daniel Cuevas agreed
Anyone wondering why both of them have phones but never cared to see the danm date
yeah, same!
That was a plot hole. I'm not sure but I guess Makoto did address that in one of the interview. Can't say for sure though.
He did say it was incomplete
I feel like maybe the dates (day+month) did match up, but just not the year - Which as they were switching maybe wouldn’t be as noticeable? Especially if you’re already assuming you’re in the same time. That’s how I rationalized it anyway.
@@amoeller41 this makes sense as your phone shows you the date and time but only the year if you go see your calender
It's crazy how makoto shinkai's "incomplete" movie was a masterpiece for us

Her: tf am I supposed to do with this?!
@@tahj9476 Yeah
But he doesn't care if she remembers him he just wants her to know that he loves her
@@tahj9476 To be fair, there's a reason for this.
Feelings are eternal, and that's why Taki wrote "I love you", and why Mitsuha was planning on doing the same.

the plot twist fucks you up bad.. the most beautiful anime ive ever seen
I’m here because after two years my brain still doesn’t understand how the time traveling work... :(((
I explain it to you the two are not know each other and the places.

I remembered when she opened her hand to see his name but it said "I love you" instead and she was like "How tf is this gonna help me remember" 😂😂
Vaniji omfg yeah that was fcking hilarious
that was my best part... And I guess not just me
I didn't find it funny.
Sure, there is time traveling and multiverse theory involved, but how hard is it to grasp vs. an enchanted rose, a talking grandma tree, sentient gargoyles, an entire cast of talking wildlife, and Michael Bay making Transformers battle in the city vs. open spaces because blowing up buildings sells more?
the part when he said
“she dead”
got me dying
The whole story is very similar to manual weaving like a braid where two strings may meet and seperate but ultimately meet in the of the knot
