I hiked the Highland Bowl at Aspen this past season. it was a long and tiring 30 minute hike but it was well worth it coming down the bowl. one guy fell from the very top all the way to the bottom but luckily was ok.
I would say big and quite common mistake is bringing new untested gear on splitboard or hike mission. What is minor problem in ski resort could be major problem in backcountry. Especially new bindings, boots, poles or skins usually need some tweaking before you are 100% used to them. So its better to sort these things out before backountry trip :) Also if you are in group make sure that at least one person has first aid kit.
@@dingomatic ive been riding a volcom combo for 3 seasons now and can confirm it is quality! But my jacket needs to be replaced as its showing signs of wear and tear but the ziptech is legit “the goods”
One mistake is using the word safe when it comes to hiking and snowboarding Avalanche prone terrain. You can have a hundred people with you but that does not make you safe. You could have all the Avy gear on the planet ie. Backpack, probe, shovel, Beacon, airbag, Avalung, helicopter with a rescue crew and that still doesn't make you safe. The word safe doesn't exist in any conversation about backcountry snowboarding or skiing. Your best approach is to know the terrain you are about to snowboard or ski. Know where your safe zones are at every point along your route and stay close to them. You should rehearse that line in your mind before you ever actually do it. Your reaction is critical when things go bad. If you have to think about what you're going to do after shit goes down you're too late. Always have a plan. The sad fact is is if you get caught in an avalanche and have to be rescued, you may not survive. You could be extracted from the snow in a short 5 minutes and still be dead. So your best bet is to not get caught in an avalanche.

I use Leki poles when splitboarding for example. It folds so can leave it inside backpack when you dont need it
