I'm more of a longboarder than a snowboarder, but I found that staying as calm as possible is extremely important to not falling. Many people go really stiff when they get scared and lose control of their boards before they even get to a trouble spot. Staying calm and trusting yourself to get through it is important. Not doing anything way over your comfort level is also good to remember. The pros can hit the bigger stuff because they've worked up to it and their experience allows them to be confident and not scared. Start with stuff you're confident in and slowly work up from there. You'll build muscle memory and confidence over time and eventually you'll hit difficult stuff like it's nothing because you'll know how to stay in control the entire run.
Excellently stated my man. I have only spent about 12 hours snowboarding over 3 days and I know once I begin tensing up and not relaxing, I am going to wreck. When you're in that groove, relaxed and flowing, the wrecks come far less often and hurt less when they happen. Definitely gotta progress at a pace that makes sense for what skills you've practiced and repeated.
Thanks for the videos. I've been snowboarding for 32 years now and always have people that want me to teach them to snowboard. I tell them to start off by watching videos like yours to better understand what to expect once they get to the snow and second, take lessons at a resort given by a pro instructor. Best!!
love the videos Tommie. I am a 38 year old beginner/intermediate snowboarder just soaking all your vids in on RUclips and getting amped to get back out in the snow

I appreciate you taking the spills on camera for us! Ive fallen every possible way since this is my first season 🤣 but just got the ollie front side 180 down! Carving switch is rough though
My biggest issue as a beginner is I’m most afraid of staying on the toe slide or heel slide for any amount of time so I switch to the opposite side turn and then end up gaining so much speed I’m out of control and end up wiping out big time. Having a great time and improving though. Thanks for the videos! Much appreciated.
My first advice is to take lessons. They really help. On your own, concentrate on making "C" turns. This means that as you're going across the fall line, in order to control your speed you should be going almost uphill before you take your next turn. If you feel like you're going too fast, just make that uphill turn just a little bit tighter and you'll slow right down. I'm sure Tommy has some videos about this but another RUclipsr I recommend for drills is Malcolm Moore.
I'm a advanced skier and I just bought a snowboard and as a beginner I will learn to ride it with your advices. I like your videos...weirdo...😅, you are funny, also you don't hesitate to make your body pay the price to teach us, and you explain very well. Thank you for saving me the money of lessons...
omg - in just the opening few minutes, you covered all of my falls - and you did it w way more style than I could ever. feeling your pain - hope you didn't hurt yourself! And thank you!
I swear my falls looks to be exactly the same types as yours in the beginning! The 1-2-3 steps, the boat analogy, and keeping the head up is very helpful to me!
thanks for falling for us!! it was a good little test for me to identify why you were falling in each fall and it made me realise the mistakes in my own snowboarding which was very helpful
Love your "Fall" Collection! Thank you for taking all those falls and recording them so effectively. But also, of course, thank you for teaching us newbies how not to fall.
Love the diagram you drew up!!! I’m learning how to snowboard and I couldn’t figure how to get from my heel side to toe side (vice versa) without catching the edge but you made it easier to understand!!!!
I was kinda expecting this to just be a way to kind of brush up on my skills, see if there was anything missing from my repertoire...but I was NOT expecting to see that thorough of an intro. This runs the gamut all the way from beginner to kinda advanced riding, and I was not expecting that. I've been riding for 10 years, and I actually expect to learn something new with this video.
@@tommiebennett Thanks Tommy! Rested today and will likely skip the crowds this weekend. I think I will be ready to ride again on Monday. Ripping a Mountain Twin now and love it.
I Like how you put up the effort and fall so we could relate more. It’s so easy to learn how to do it right, but it’s so hard to relate what goes wrong when we were on the ski field. So, it’s really cool to see this approach of teaching. Thank you so much. 😉
My dude!!! 😂😂😂 this video had me dying!! The accuracy of the falls was on point! Plus it’s super impressive how you can reprogram your brain to embrace/accept beefing it! 🤣🤣🤣
Brooo you are the the beast!!! Great video and thanks for the advices! If it make sense just try to make them a bot shorter and simpler. Best of the wishes for you!!
Looks like you're in some awesome powder!!! BTW I love the intro where you're showing examples of common falls. The hitting of the small tree had me dying! lol
another tip for riding trees from my experience, be comfortable with turning heel and toe side. Riding trees can be tricky because of where the trees are and you might need to smack a heel to toe turn really fast to keep the line.
straps broke every time i was on a run last week :( i’m a beginner and this was a board and bindings passed on by a friend, so it was mt first time on them and it took a hit on my confidence
My step brother coulda used this… he’s 6.5 and used to only knew how to send. Every time he tried to carve, there was a 50/50 chance he would eat it (not good for a honey guy like him). Last time we went boarding, though, both of us improved a lot. Next time we’re planning on trying some jumps to step up our game, so this vid will help a lot.
Love it! Could you do something on the half pipe? I get get sketched out by the icy walls and keep sliding out on my heels and end up upside down at the bottom, not sick!
I like that use use analogies, works really well for me. To add to your braking at around the 9min mark, someone told me this: Try to imagine you are a cowboy sitting on a horse (getting ready to draw if you want to complete the picture and balance, but): bend through your knees while pointing them outward. Bending deeper brakes more. And lift your toes..
Great video! The fall compilation was epic! I bet you were a little sore the next day. Where's the links to those cool videos you told me about? I don't see any.
Tommy, you should get more "killing it" hoodies in different colors other than white >.> im looking for a royal blueish color. love the videos, keep up the good work!
Well this a interesting examples of how not to do turns and man your speech about the fall line sounds very close to the AASI instructor book ! So funny how at all sound the same !
I got to snowboard for 2 days for the first time on a school trip, and a skateboard habit of mine came to bite me cuz i kick turn hard angles leaning forward, it made toe turning really hard for me. But my hill just opened and i'm buying my gear so i can progress, i'll be checking your videos for advice buddy
I'm at the point where I'm unsure of how I should be riding the mountains. Should I be carving to control speed and execute turns or plow snow or doesn't really matter
Thanks for taking all those falls for us. Intensionally catching a edge side slipping, got to be hard to convince your brain to do that.
I hope you didnt hurt your self while doing this vid and your MRI went well. BIG THX for your efforts making us better at snowboarding.

your fake falls are spot on and look so real. Wonder how many people on the slope saw you doing that and think you are a noob. Cheers!
This man out here sacrificing himself to teach us how to not suck - big props Tommie!

Finally! It's nice to see this dude falling every once in awhile, 'cause he's so smoooooth it rarely happens!! Keep killin' it Tommie!
I'm only 3:30 in and man I appreciate you taking all those dives. It's not fun. My first 2 weeks sucked bad, I wash someone taught me like this.
My biggest issue as a beginner is I’m most afraid of staying on the toe slide or heel slide for any amount of time so I switch to the opposite side turn and then end up gaining so much speed I’m out of control and end up wiping out big time. Impressed he took all those falls for us. I lol’ed at the “I’m not excited about it” before he face-planted 😆 will like and subscribe just for that
Mad respect to this guy for actually taking the falls because seeing the fall really helped me learn what I'm doing wrong and how to fix up my ride.
ive been riding for a few seasons. your videos helped me progress so much. now i'm killing it!
Those clips in the beginning really gave me alot of insight and perspective on the small and simple mistakes that causes me to fall.. thank you
The commitment. Way to be. My body fights me so hard when I try to demonstrate the “wrong” stuffs.
I’ve seen a ton of snowboarding videos in my lifetime and this is easy top 5. Well done all around, subscribed
It's always fun watching someone that's good at something try to be bad. Great video
First Time boarding I broke 3 Ribs trying to stop on my heels and caught my edge, made it down the mountain and just got my own board!! Hyped
I swear my falls looks to be exactly the same types as yours in the beginning! The 1-2-3 steps, the boat analogy, and keeping the head up is very helpful to me!
THANK YOU for falling at 3:00. This is soooo helpful for beginners to see. Cheers dude. Keep ripping!
thanks for falling for us!! it was a good little test for me to identify why you were falling in each fall and it made me realise the mistakes in my own snowboarding which was very helpful
Going for my first time next month. This video is building confidence thank you
Tommie this vids are absolutely blowing my lid. On point. Thank you, bless you. Love the vibe. Like JOB on snow (but also teaching).
Thankyou for eating it & showing us how to fall. You are a blessing Brotha!
Damn dude, harsh falls for the video haha. 1:17 was the best
Love your "Fall" Collection!

Thank you for this video! This helps. I fall a lot. And when I'm boarding I replay your videos in my head.

I love it how you change your whole outfit when its time to record the falls :D:D You rock Tommie, sending good vibes from Bulgaria
This helped me improve riding and helped fix a lot of bad habits I had. Thanks for the great info!
So ironically, I am watching this video from my condo in Keystone with ice on my groin from a mogul wipeout that looked exactly like yours!
@@tommiebennett Thanks Tommy! Rested today and will likely skip the crowds this weekend. I think I will be ready to ride again on Monday. Ripping a Mountain Twin now and love it.
Thankyou for all the falls, was well worth watching just to see the splatter tbh. Keep up the solid content bro.
thanks so much for savaging thru those falls just to teach! awesome videos, learning so much thru them!! much appreciated
Dude! This is one of the best all around videos I’ve seen. Thanks for all the info.
Thank you for your video. Such a wonderful snow condition that you have there. I wish we have something like that in southern California.
Funny watching you try to fall on purpose....love your content as always...
Thanks for your commitment! Catching edge on purpose must feel awful :)
Great crashes , please do more of these this is so soothing watching
Thanks Tommie!! I watched your video about carving (using ankles more) and it changed the freaking game for me! Thank you dude keep ripping!
I've been snowboarding twice and I did all of these falls..hopefully this video will help on my 3rd trip!

Another great video, ouch so many deliberate falls. Great work as usual Tommie. Can't wait to try out all your tips in our oncoming season down under.

man , srsly, i broke my arm falling on a box like that and you do it for demonstration purposes ^^ this is going to be good
