I have worked on many Toshiba dvd/vcr combo, the vcr part always fail, but they are very easy to work on as most combo from that era are rebranded FUNAI. All they need is cleaning the dirty mode switch or replacing a burned laser emitter, re-greasing the whole mechanism and cleaning the video head.
I feel like there are still so many crazy CRT TV’s to discover. I recently discovered a Panasonic Quintrix ACUITY model that is crazy and maybe the best I have ever seen.
Crazy, I just picked one of these up about a week ago. Mine is a cheaper version without the card slot though. I spotted it sitting on the curb while working and went and nabbed it on my way home.
any luck finding a universal or replacement remote for it? I've been going through quite a few to no avail. Separately, I was able to program a universal for a different Toshiba CRT I have that's a 27" (TV only). Would just love to find something that works so I can interact with the DVD menus
I have a rebadged version of this set, an Orion 21FVD. The great thing about this model is it has an RGB scart socket, making it a great all-in-one TV for gaming and movies.
Looking at the service manual, the micon sends RGB to the jungle chip for the OSD. assuming it's analog at regular voltage, an RGB mod should be possible.
I had the 2004 version without the SD card slot bought brand new in 2004 when I got it as a birthday gift. I used it SO heavily. one of the things I did was record RUclips videos onto VHS using the Wii internet browser back in the day. It developed the same aforementioned issues with the VCR no longer accepting tapes and the DVD tray acting weird. Mine also got the dreaded retrace lines on the screen after a few years...
13:26 I understand that it would be a lot of work; however, would it be possible to replace all of the solder on the board to standard Sn / Pb or would the pads on the board not be compatible?
I have the 2004 version without the card slot. Did your vhs / dvd player work? My vhs cannot play back tapes well and the dvd drive doesn't read discs. I tried cleaning the vhs heads but that didn't help much, still has massive tracking issues. Does the entire tray slide out that hold the dvd and vhs decks? Great video!
I have an MW20FM1 that's similar, but no SD card slot either. No issues with dvd player or VCR thankfully. Hope you can get yours working properly, it's a great unit!
@@danielaguilar8424 Tbh I ended up selling off 2 or my 3 crt's, including this one, to make space in my apt haha. But it was a cool set for sure! Just too many projects to fix not to mention videos to edit...ugh! hah
I wonder what that media card input supports, if it has any video playback options. If anything you could load up 240p test patterns on a card and display them I guess?
Love the fact that you used a cky2k to test the DVD player lol. Also a pretty awsome and unique TV! I just got myself gifted a B&O mx5000 us version with remote which I will be trying to tear into myself.
Sir I need to change CRT tv anode cap but the problem is the original cap is used of size 7.5cm diameter but I have 6.5cm cap can I use it or it is not safe.
Nice little combo TV from Toshiba! It would be great if one day you have the opportunity to check out what some believe are the kings of Toshiba SD CRT TVs: The AF41, AF42, AF61 or AF62 series. Either in 27”, 32” or 36”. Or the AF43 in either 32” or 36”. Since all those have japanese Toshiba tubes, and not Orion tubes.
Oh wow! I remember being really tempted to buy one of these units in Kmart and it was offered at a reasonable price Steve. Some reason, I passed on the offer. I don't recall why, but I think I had to buy books for school that was distracting me to avoid purchasing it. Oh well, live and learn. 8^) Anthony..
My friend bought this TV off FB market and the VCR accept a tape but doesnt play and the DVD tray won't open. It also only turns on once right after it is plugged in but if you turn it off it won't turn back on. You have to unplug it and plug it back in. I'm going to crack it open for him and see what is wrong. I am expecting a gear or belt to be bad on the VCR and a belt on the DVD tray. TV I'm not sure but maybe a capacitor or voltage regulator on the psu.
I have a similar crt but with a USB port instead of a memory card slot. Love this thing, i just wish i knew someone that can help with the geometry being somewhat off. It is a little better with the remote. Using the software service menus is far more doable with the remote, and its quicker to switch between menus, but other than that i haven’t been in a situation where i would need more features to find and the service menus don’t do enough alone to adjust the picture geometry to my liking.
That thumbnail with the CKY2K disc brought a smile to my face.
What a great combo CRT, love it! 🤩👏

Man, this brings back some sweet memories.

@retrotechusa --- Why didn't you redo the solder?
Could a Zenith universal remote work?
The DVD drives in these TV's usually uses s-video as it's internal video connection.
So you could s-video mod this, most likely

I clicked on this video solely because I thought the CKY2K dvd was going to be featured. Nice thumbnail! haha

Any way to tell if at least the DVD unit is connected to the main chassis through composite, Y/C or RGB ?
y/c i believe

I have seen some of these models with component imputs from 2006

If it doesn't do S-Video, can you really call it a great VHS combo?
If it doesn't fly to the space can you really call it nice combo?🤔
Yes. Isn't there a distinction between S-VHS?
nice tv good you told people not to mess inside as well

Same! Love the CKY2K choice for the media sample! Brings back the memories and makes me think of the creation of Jackass.😂
Let's go! 👍
How similar is this model compared to the toshiba mw20fp1?
You can still watch TV shows on this one with digital antenna broadcast.

Some guy gave me this tv for free recently. It smells terribly of cigar tar. What’s the best way to de-oderize?
Lmao, a friend recently gifted me cky2k on dvd that she flund when packing for a move
great until something breaks then its a nightmare to repair
You should have said Toshiba's comb filter maximizes dot crawl and narrows chroma bandwidth. The thing was junk.
needs scart
thank god my toshiba isnt lead free lol
This isn’t very all-in-one when Toshiba produced a model like this w/ all these features but also a component input, USB port & ATSC tuner
@@MikeLindquist That's the All-in-one Mega Toshiba Mike.
