Its so cool that you do this because it really unleashes the potential of these sets. It's taking "e-waste" (I dislike that term) restoring it, then going a step further and then letting it shine with RGB.
@@RetroTechUSA I tell you what man! Dang ol crtisdabestdangolwayto experience retrogamesfromdangolddentimes .. jungle chip .. I want this mod.. I’m boomhoward lol
It blows my mind that the geometry is near perfect on a 35" consumer set, i've never seen that on such a big CRT, thanks for the great content as always.
Are you worried about those charred spots on the board? I wonder if the wattage or temp on any of those other components weren’t adequate from the factory
Hello! Please allow me to ask you a question: What do you think of the Panablack line of TVs? I have a 27inch Panablack from 2005-2007 but my landlord just told me she has a 27inch Philips from 2003 and offered me to take it for free, she doesn't use it anymore. Both of them have component inputs (the philips also has s-video). These tvs are huge, so I can only have one at home. Would you keep the Panablack or switch to the Philips? I hope you can help me decide. Thanks in advance!
Hi, there. Sorry for this unrelated question, but I can’t figure this out with google and my lack of electrical knowledge. I have a monitor with discoloration in the corners. I tried to fix it with all the different magnet tricks, but no luck. I want to try out a degauss coil like yours , but can’t find one made for EU wall sockets. Could I just use a US to EU socket adapter or do I need something like a step down inverter 220v to 110v?
Those boards have been available for years and are quite nice to work with. You kind of missed the benefit of the mux mod vs a standard RGB mod - the point of it is that the on screen menu isn’t lost - so you can still see things like the volume display and the OSD menu while it’s active rather than “replacing” it with the injected RGB. I’d still recommend putting in a switch to change to RGB as not all scart cables have the 5V line wired which is what this uses to trigger the switch to the OSD/RGB. It’s also kind of annoying to have to unplug the scart cable or power down your scart device if you want to use a different input. If you want the functionality of both, you could have a 3 way switch that chooses auto (5V present on the scart line), off (ignore scart input), or scart select (force to show Scart).
@@RetroTechUSA You didn't explain any of the information in the comment above at all, the only thing you said was "this is cool because it doesn't need a physical switch". You didn't even explain what "mux" even means, or why Sunthar's pre-made mux board is helpful for this application. It's great that Sunthar got a shoutout here for his great work, but I really wish this video was a little bit better researched.
@CMskittles bro, you should learn to relax a bit. This is literally an "entertainment" style video... like, did someone hold a gun to your head and force you to watch it?
@@michaelcard1973 No one forced you to reply to my comment, either, but here we are. I think this is perfectly valid criticism for a video on this subject. His reply claiming that he "explained pretty much all that stuff" is straight up false. It's clear that he doesn't have a great idea of how this mod actually works. Sorry that I'm not praising this guy like everyone else in the comments. Not sure why you got offended by it.
@@CMskittles it's weird you posted your original comment because at no point did I hear him state that this was going to be THE definitive guide to end all guides on how to install this mod. Holy shite! I've got the 27" version of that exact Sony TV. And I KNOW that it has really low hours, because I bought it new, but I'm really an audiophile. I hardly used it. But I live in NYC, for another month, and after watching with my own eyes while taking my wife to work, it's the TV that I watched the Twin Towers attack on, so it's got some history. It only has S-Video, and it's never been serviced. It hasn't even been turned on in over 15 years....
Hello sur. Do know if a Mistubishi CS-40509 can be rgb modded. It has s-video which looks great with nice fat scanlines but rgb would would make it my ultimate crt?
Thanks for the info, I went to the Sunthar website and learned that my tv model IS moddable... but there are many types of RGB board and I don't get what type to buy for my Sony KV-36FS100. Could you help please ?
@Retro Tech Do you or do you know anyone that I can ship my 1985 Sony Trinitron 19inch PVM to, to have some maintenance and testing done to it? It works fine but I bought it off of marketplace and I drove to purchase it, I just don’t know if it’s performing at its best because this is the first one I’ve ever owned so I don’t have a prior experience to compare it with.
Could you find a way to bypass the light sensor on the Bang Olufsen MX 7000 so you can have full brightness all of the time? The auto dimming drives me insane.
My TV has this card that plugs into a slot (pins) the card contains the jungle chip. Is there a method that involves unpluging and setting this card aside, and then tapping directly into the pins in the slot for RGB?
Welcome to Scart world my friend :D I'm over in the UK so these are standard on our sets. I have a couple of Sony screens myself, one is needing a bit of attention. You've inspired me to get my finger out and give my screens a service and get some work done. Also, subbed!
oh lol it's got legs in but isn't soldered. I thought the wrap around wires were an intentional part of the device, for a minute. looks like a good device
I have this same set, but the diagonal orientation of it is wrong, and the service menu doesn't alleviate the issue. I don't think there's anyone in my whole state that does this. :(
More information on the RGB Mux mod can be found here: www.retrorgb.com/rgb-mods-for-crts-just-got-better.html
When you say something like "This could change the game", USUALLY, that's a load of baloney. Coming from you though, that carries a lot of weight.
Thanks brother

more of this type of content please! Awesome!
If Hank Hill was into crt’s and crt modifications.
Now listen here, Bobby. The only thing more pure than propane is the glow from a CRT on a clear Texas night.

Nice demo! Coincidentally, I just picked up Sunthar’s mod board. You’ve encouraged me to go ahead and get it done.
You look more like his friend in Truman Show

After the RGB Mux mod can you use the service menu to adjust h-size, h-position, v-size and v-position?

Wish I could do this to an old KV-27V65 I still have lying around. I'd be too scared to open my set and shipping it off would cost a fortune.
Many thanks to the French. They released the scart input for European TVs in 1982.

SCART sockets are standard in the UK, my 12 year old LG plasma has 2 of them
good info.
have you an idea how to convert old PAL CRT to 60hz ?
What's up with the discoloration on the board at 12:24? Are those resistors producing a bunch of heat?
DO RGB mods introduce lag?
Wow. It looks magnificent after the mod
STEVE TIME 🕰️
After turning off a PVM how long should i wait to turn it on again?
This will be fun
CRT CREW!!! LET'S GO!!!!!
Looking forward to this one!!!
Awesome thanks for the extra notice!

Man what a timely video! have a KV-27S42 I’m planning on modding soon with this mux kit! Your videos and sunthars instructions are super valuable!

Yes, I am in Virginia. All services are offered through my Patreon
good stuff
The only time I noticed the background noise was when you mentioned it.
how does he remember wich caps go where everytime? lol
nvm i saw the list of them lol
Excellent .. Thanks
Glad you liked it!
El euroconector (scart) es lo que se ha usado en europa desde siempre xd
is there a way to rgb mod sony with only RF out
In most circumstances, no. It's not. You can check Sunthar's site for the list of RGB eligible CRTs.
@@RetroTechUSA thank you !
