“We film when we feel like it” ❤ I love that it’s authentic because it’s a snippet into real life, not a staged video where you’re prepping every detail in advance to appear a certain way on the internet. Those kinds of staged videos warp people’s minds into believing that someone’s life can truly be perfect, even when it’s not. Perfection is never the goal, authenticity is. ❤❤❤❤ love you guys so much. ❤❤❤
Hello! My favorite part of SAKFAB is hearing about what is inspiring you 😊. Today I’m actually starting a pair of socks with yarn my husband picked out. It was only his second time in a yarn shop…. and he completely fell in love with a fabulous blue sock yarn. I was delighted to see it was from “Arne & Carlos”. I am hoping he will be inspired to learn to knit!
Those hexagons are really beyond stunning - the two of you not being quilters, per se, gave the hexagons “fresh eyes” and its working out wonderfully! ❤❤
I love it when you get your Barbie out LOL! I hope Barbie gets a new cruise wardrobe. The 1952/53 Parisian elegant patterns are gorgeous. I would love the white dress with the blue stripes. I have a Lutterloh folder full of patterns from the early 1960's. I loved the drawings but never got around to making any of the dresses. It was impossible to choose one, they were all beautiful. I can't wait to see how the quilt progresses. I vowed I would never do another hand sewn quilt but you both inspire me with your quilting shenangians so I started saving fabric scraps. So many projects, so little time! I love you guys so much.
Just love your very diverse conversations and your creative abilities. I mostly watch your videos on TV, but not able to comment, so I go to my cellphone. Love the gorgeous dresses the you presented in those French Pattern books. And the attention to detail that Arne displays in the gowns he creates for his Barbie doll clothing is exquisite. And those magnificent quilts that you both create out of cloth remnants. You both our extremely talented people. I shall continue to watch and enjoy your wonderful videos.
Hi amazing souls ... about 55 years ago I gave my VW bug to my brother because I got in an accident and he was 20 working for a local German mechanic. He repaired it, started his own business and built into a very successful service. He is extremely beloved by so many clients in Northern New Jersey for his ethics, go the extra yard work style, and lovable nature. He still works in retirement and can be found at many shows selling parts and vintage VW stuff of all kinds. We have been a VW family for many years since and found VW peeps to be a very lovely breed. I wish I could pack him up and teleport/send him to you to do a once over on your VW. He's seen it all.
Love all your decor ideas, and all your knitting designs are beautiful. Love the book that you created with all the drawings and designs. Love the cardigan, on my list to knit! Thanks for all your creative ideas!
I’m always surprised by how much I enjoy watching all of your videos. When I see one is going to run for an hour I hesitate to press ‘Start’. I assume it will run long, or I will get board. And then suddenly, it’s over!! I’m shocked an hour has passed. I have been sitting, working away at my own project, and I wish the story telling in the episode would continue! You have truly mastered the art of reeling me in and leaving me always wanting for more💕 Such an enjoyable visit with you in your home. See you next time 👋
Hi guys, It is very interesting to watch you talk about the clothes for Barbie. When I had a Barbie my mother patiently sewed ALL of her clothes! They were beautifully made because my mother was a gifted seamstress. She also made a suit for Ken! I do not remember ( in detail) all of the clothes that she made for my Barbie. However, I vividly remember the cranberry velvet cocktail dress with white satin sash and a very miniature white rose on the sash. It was gorgeous!! I also remember the blue wool suit that she sewed for Ken ( even with the tiny, tiny buttonholes!) My mom was a single parent and she worked all day. She would stay up late and sew Barbie clothes for my Barbie. Elizabeth Goodrich, Texas
In the late 70s I had a Sindy doll. My grandmother was a great seamstress and made her a gold brocade fitted trouser suit - and I believe she had great fun doing it, too!! I was thrilled, it was a marvellous outfit. Sadly, it's no longer around. My grandmother lived to be 100 and sewed all her own clothes until she was 95.
Looking forward to hearing about your kitchen color solution. I painted my cabinets pistachio and used deep purple as an accent in my curtain color. I’ll bet you’ll find the ideal saturated color to complement your cabinets!
I collect Francie dolls, Barbie's cousin. I would love to see your video on how you make the clothes! Ive been unhappy with the choices for her and collecting fabric to make my own, so this will be fun! Good luck with the kitchen, I cannot wait to hear all about it!
Loved tonights episode because I love sewing ❤ if you decide to get your kitchen painted in the future consider asking a car sprayer to do it for you, they do a very good job. They also make a microwave that combines as an oven, that would be useful in a kitchen transition and also as the future oven as it uses less time to cook food. They are more expensive than an ordinary microwave but will save on your electricity bills in the future which is worth taking into consideration. I'm so glad I'm not driving vintage cars with all their quirkiness anymore. We could only afford old charabangs when we first started to drive, they were not considered tasteful or vintage and had so many problems 😂
I love you guys so much! It's been SO hot here in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It was 105° yesterday, will be 103 today. So I've been laying in bed with my little dog, she's my baby, and watching videos 'cause I'm too lazy in this heat to do anything. Then I saw your new video and my heart jumped with joy. So here I am, in bed with the air conditioner on full blast and relaxing watching you. Thank you for making my HOT day better. ❤
Your quilt is looking lovely! Have you thought about framing each 7-piece motif with a ring of hexagons to separate it from its neighboring piece? A background color to use on the whole quilt would accentuate the design of each motif. Just a thought….whatever you do will be so pretty, I know! And if you make some pieces that don’t quite go with it, you can make a pillow cover. ( I have to confess that almost every quilt I’ve started has not gotten any farther than the “enough squares for a pillow” stage…!) I’ve had old cars for so long that I’ve had everything happen to them; my “jumpy” car turned out to have a cracked distributor cap and when it rained enough moisture got in to mess up the spark plugs. And the problem with the car that had to wait to cool down before it started again had a bad ignition coil. If you have time you might look up those parts and see if they seem to fit the description of your problems. The “shimmy” is probably related to bad tires or something not related to the engine and not what you’re actually experiencing. Hope you had a fun trip to Oslo!
yes, shimmering could be from tyres or needs a wheel alignment; i also asked my friend who loves to do up old cars, says maybe it's a voltage issue? her wires might need redoing & upgrading; also check her carburettor, maybe her spark plugs need a clean? i think it's wonderful that you're trying to keep a gorgeous old lady going; love old VDubs, they're worthy of restoration. good luck
My car is a girl, too. She's also a VW, but not vintage like yours. And she's a Golf. Her name is Wanda - Wanda White :D Your Barbie and doll clothing design remind me of my own passion for sewing a rag doll for my niece many years ago. I used a really sweet magazine pattern I found. It turned out quite lovely and I felt proud. I enjoyed picking the fabrics for her clothes (i.e. dress and apron), the hair yarn and buttons and stuff. Barbie and I go way back, further than I should admit. My mom sewed clothes for my Barbie, too, when I was little (and the same age in years as Barbie herself ;) It was always fun to see my Barbie's clothes made from the same fabric as something my mom had on. They were not as formal and elegant as your lovely dresses, though. Whenever you say Olso, Carlos, I think of the Oh-shlow pronunciation I practiced before my trip to Norway too long ago. It was a truly enjoyable and memorable vacation for me in your beautiful country. You are both so inspiring in many creative ways! Thank you!
Back in the 60s, my second-hand car didn’t like starting in the mornings, so at night I covered the engine with an old dressing gown (& remembered to uncover it before starting it in the morning 😮). That worked well for me.
I was so happy to see Barbie in your video boys. 😊 I went to see the live action Barbie movie on opening night, I dressed up, I made Barbie an outfit to wear, I took her with me and took photos. The movie was brilliant! I’ve been invited to go again next week, so I get to do it all again. Last night I had a mini Barbie party in my garden room. It was a lot of fun. Thank you for the discount on the socking and ball pattern. I’ve started the stocking I’m on row 23. I will be doing it as a when between your mini Nordic Jumpers.
Hi guys I always enjoy sit and knit you always tell us so much about your life I love hearing about it I used to make bed dolls with barbies I would crochet them well I will see you Sunday take care
I can only thank you again for such a pleasant, fun, inspirational episode to keep me company while I knit and enjoy my coffee this morning. I don’t sew but I can’t believe the quilt you are making - it will be an absolutely priceless heirloom! Loving too your love of Barbie :O)
Carlos, I hear you about having preference for drawers made of wood. I like your attitude about the more difficulty in the project, the more opportunities for creativity. Best wishes in creating an enjoyable kitchen environment ❤.
I love your Barbie doll dresses. Gorgeous! I think seeing the movie on a large screen in the theater would be a blast. I'd go with a friend or my daughter or even my granddaughters. The trailers are hilarious. I made a pink dress for my granddaughter's stuffed toy 'Mousy'. I used vintage pink embroidered ribbon at the top and bottom and straps as well. I used tiny vintage snaps I found in my stash (you called them press buttons) for the back closure. The lower back was open for 'Mousy's' tail. She loved it! The French books of patterns are fabulous! It's fun to see all your projects and inspirations. Thanks for the Christmas in July patterns.
Oh my goodness you were so much fun to watch and listen to today. I am working in my slow stitch book and I really enjoyed stitching with you two funny guys. The Barbie stories were hilarious, thank you both so much. love you both to bits. Xxxx
That VW book is so good, but it helps if you color the diagrams so you can see what goes where better. I love mine, it's so fun to color! I had a 1969 VW Beetle from 2002 until 2007, and my first copy of the book went with the car when I sold it.
Oh kitchen renovations are so hard but soooo worth it in the end. We are having new flooring done- carpet today and hard floors at the end of the month. Sooooo much furniture to move.
we had that same vw manual-- when I met my husband ( in 1973) he owned a 1966 VW bug and a 1955 Willys Jeep-- my first car was a 1969 VW beetle-- he became an expert at rebuilding VW motors--
Thank you for this lovely jam-packed episode. So many cool things were presented. That mustard/red sample could make a nice doll dress with the addition of ties or snaps. 😉❤
I love you guys! Can’t wait to see the Barbie movie. I had Barbie ( and her friend Midge) when I was a young girl. So many memories. Now Im going to watch the behind the scenes for sure!!
Arne I have an electric counter top oven called Nu Wave oven and love mine .Use it nearly every day there is also only 2 of us so very handy for cooking all kinds of things. Love the dolls dresses. The knitted only will be lovely when finished. Cheers from Prue in Australia ❤
A&C, I suggest replacing the spark plug wires and rotor cap. As they age they do not like any form of moisture. Rain, fog, high humidity can do strange things.
I can't wait to see your fabulous new kitchen, I hope it will be complete in time for the holiday baking episodes!😉 I just saw the Barbie movie last weekend and the fashions are to die for. Thanks for sharing info about the RUclips Arch digest, I will definitely watch it.
I saved this episode to watch on my day off, and I’m so glad I did. Loved everything you talked about today (even though - true confession - I’ve never been a Barbie fan). Your enthusiasm is terribly contagious and made me so happy. And, I finished my first mitten ever while watching this episode! I feel like I’ve finally arrived! Thank you for accompanying me on my journey. Love to you both!
Saw the pre-screening of the Barbie movie last night! Much better than I anticipated. Fun and silly and then deeper and female affirming. Greta Gerwig did a phenomenal job as director. Recommend highly!
My mom graduated from FIT and did some design work in foundations and bathing suits before she got married. She made a lot of my clothes and would sometimes make doll clothes from the scraps. She also never had an overlock sewing machine until much later and would do French seams on everything. (She taught me to sew and I have done a little, but I really don't like it. It's a bit too fussy for me. I much prefer to knit or crochet.) Your fashion books remind me of her portfolio sketches (her designs were more late '60s). Thanks for the nostalgia 💜
Hi there, A&K! You've wondered what a 'shimmie' is in the context of your VW. What comes to my mind is a dance from the 70-ies called 'Shimmie shimmie', which is all about shaking and polishing the ground. I hope the hint may be helpful.
Hiya 🌞 Arne and Carlos!!❤your adventures with the cars!Espically the Beetle,"she "is a typical woman!- as my Father used yto say "women aren't meant to be understood, just loved!"Lol 😅 love hearing all about your daily happenings, and trials-many similar to our own experiences. The variety in your many crafts makes me feel "normal"as my home is neat and organised, interspersed with those patches of "organised chaos"!(which often is the greater volume!Lol😊)❤ l agree Arne,l make petticoats for all the Barbies as well as underwear!- My grandees and their friends love these clothes because of their varieties, and the accessories that can't be bought. It's like having a visit with you! Best wishes J.I.M.K Mrs. Brisbane, Australia ❤ 🇦🇺 🪃.
I so remember that I had to spray my rotor cap with anti-moist spray as it always had this in wet weather. Those little beetles have a couple of problems that occur in wet weather. Love it that you cherish your "she".
Love spending time with you two. I was not interested in the Barbie movie before, but your excitement about it is contagious. I can’t wait to see it! 🎉
I had that SAME book when I had my Bug! I learned to set the tappet valves using it. My DH’s Kharmann Ghia had a similar “shimmy & shake” symptom, and it turned out to be a loose wire on the carburetor cap. With only 4 cylinders, when 1 would “short out”, there was an immediate and noticeable drop in the power.
Omg Carlos I had a Barbie Ballerina. It was my first Barbie of my own. I had hand me down Barbies. The funniest was my Mom's one that was the first Barbie but something happened to her along the way and she had some green staining around her eye like battery acid green. Lmao. I never had any of the big stuff either. I made my Barbie dresses out of socks. I would steal all the fancy socks from my Grandpa. He thought I was a genius for making my doll dresses out of socks and never got mad that I had stole his socks. He just wore odd ones.He was the best❤
I had a '71 beetle bug back in '74, '75. I did get another in '76 they were both boys, they were both named "George" the first one was really dependable, the second one wasn't , it hated to start when it was raining. I did most of the maintenance and the repairs and used the original how to keep your colleagues alive for the complete idiot. I enjoyed working on my bug since it was so easy. Good luck with yours
I can make patterns from drawings too, i was taught by my grandmother who was a tailoress. Also i learnt at college i am in uk. I make dolls clothing too, i overlock the raw edges. Usually i make dresses that match a childs garment.
I love the Barbie dress designs!! (I still have my Barbies and little sister Skipper) The first dress is lovely! When Carlos turned her around I thought it was designed with an open tear drop back, which I thought was gorgeous, before I realized you said it was too small. Would it be possible to put an open back in now to work for Barbie to wear that dress? It's stunning! I enjoy learning about all your adventures. Thank you for sharing !!❤
True, there are no rules for how long to wear you pajamas. My mom, who raised 8 children, loved summertime because it meant she had a lot less laundry to hang out on the line. We wore either our pajamas or our bathing suits all summer long, except for our Sunday clothes when we went to Mass. If it was a rare day when it rained all day, it was declared a 'jammie day' and we were allowed to stay in our PJs all day.
Your video is so inspiring! Between your Beetle adventures, your renovations, Barbie, her dream house, and on to haute couture! I have so many happy memories or sewing for my dolls, using a sewing machine from a very young age!! Then on to knitting and finishing your knitting. So many inspiring topics! Thank you!!!
I love the blue and white quilt pieces… it reminds me of Carlos’ favorite kitchen pottery dishes. The final quilt is going to be stunning! Christmas in July 😊yay‼️. Love it! I think Arne is bragging hahaha 🤣. Blessings to you both💕
can you someday show some ideas how you would redo a lampshade? For my refurbish thrift shop rescue, I wound a wire shade with rose quartz color wool yarn and then crocheted a large rose and suspended it on a string to land midway on the shade. Then a satin rose color bow, and the shade sits on a base of plaster roses in blush color and looks quite nice. I wondered what you would do to refurbish a lampshade having seen the lovely lamp behind you. I didn't want to do fabric, I wanted something light and soft so I chose the yarn.
Like to hear about your new kitchen it’s exciting ! I went through the same with nothing in kitchen except gas and water pipes! It’s good fun exhausting but fun! My cabinets are painted colour French dove grey but sometimes looks blue! Oak benches and door knobs to match and now it will last life time! Just bought my first Barbie doll for my great niece umm might do some dress making!thank you as always for your podcast! Xx ❤
Thoroughly enjoyed this video. You guys are AMAZING!!! Love the Barbie clothes and beautiful hexagon pieces. I'm not a knitter, but I definitely appreciate the lovely items both of you make! Wow! Thanks for sharing and adding joy and laughter to my day in the mountains of NC💕
I own 1959 original Barbie. My mom made a white brocade evening gown wth a black net with velvet waist detachable overskirt with beading at the bodice. Also have original dream house from 1960s.f
We had an old car that often had engine trouble when it rained. My husband would take out the spark plugs, dry them and put them back in. Sometimes this would help.
Good afternoon guys…. Settled with tea as you chat. What is the background for today… plates? Discs? Interesting….cannot wait to see new kitchen . Car must have been having a bad- car day ! Gorgeous gorgeous Barbie gowns !!! Lucky dolls! You can design my clothes anytime !!! Peacock scarf is lovely Arne. Hexie quilt squares are gorgeous! Hope you’re having a good trip today.. Love Marilyn NJ USA x ❤❤
Outstanding episode!!! Loved it all! So much variety of content! Sewing, knitting & crocheting! Perhaps an applique on the pant leg for the model doll. I LOVE th Christmas stocking and ball with the bullfinch! Georgous! Thank you all for making and sharing this beautiful video! Be well, be safe.😊❤❤
The talent the two of you have is beyond amazing. My Mother and Grandmother used to sew and knit clothes for the Barbie doll and regular dolls as well. I was never really into playing with Barbie dolls as a child but had ones from my older sisters. I love your quilt pieces and it will look so amazing when done and I love that you are using old items with the embroidery on it as well. I hope you get the VW problem figured out. I love seeing all your projects..... past and present! Thank you for another great SAKFAB!
I feel like a neutral kitchen would just be a blank slate for your creativity - you may end up never painting or changing it because you can add a million pops of color any time you wish with stuff like beautiful crochet or knit hand towels or potholders or embroidery hanging on the knobs, beautiful plates, bright colored teapots, and things on display etc. I'm sure whatever you land on will look amazing! Also- omg that second Barbie dress is to die for and I want one in my size 🤩
I have a 1967 bug that would act up in a similar way. Our gas filter was getting plugged. So, I kept a supply of new filters in the glove box and would change it out when the bug was having a fit.
It is unfortunate that sewing and tailoring skills have been lost. Luckily, Arne and Carlos are helping to keep fiber arts alive and thriving.

The barbie gowns you have are masterpieces. Couture 😮. Beautiful 🤩
I thoroughly enjoyed this Sit and Knit! Thank you for all you do to share with this community and bring joy to our days💕

My favorite part of your video today was the VW problems. I had a 1965 convertible that would not start if it even looked like rain. Loved that car.
My 1st car was a super beetle. I've never loved another car more.
How is your new years resolution going.
we had that same vw manual-- when I met my husband ( in 1973) he owned a 1966 VW bug and a 1955 Willys Jeep-- my first car was a 1969 VW beetle-- he became an expert at rebuilding VW motors--
Thank you for this lovely jam-packed episode.
Hi! I live in Iceland, Reykjavik and I make icelandic woolsweaters for many years and also started greenhouse gardening. Love your channel ❤️
I can't wait to see your fabulous new kitchen, I hope it will be complete in time for the holiday baking episodes!😉 I just saw the Barbie movie last weekend and the fashions are to die for. Thanks for sharing info about the RUclips Arch digest, I will definitely watch it.
I love that piece of art behind you ❤
I saved this episode to watch on my day off, and I’m so glad I did.
We are glad you liked it and well done on the mitten!
❤❤❤ I thought the garment sewing discussion was very interesting, thank you!
Good luck with the new kitchen! We're hoping to get ours done next year. After putting it off for many years we're finally facing up to it.
❤️
I really enjoyed everything about this episode! You are both so inspiring! Thank you so much! ❤️
Thank you for a lovely episode again. Hope you had nice time in Oslo.
I LOVE LOVE The Pyjama Gardeners series! I may have been known to garden in my PJs myself.
The vintage patterns are beautiful- love them !
Sounds amazing
Xx ❤
Thank you for the Christmas in July discount! I love the bullfinch motif and ordered your patterns last night. Birds are a year round joy for me. 💕
You are welcome!
I think all of us who work at home have learned that pajamas all day means you don’t get much done.
Very enjoyable episode.
Cute doll sweater. Thank you for the sewing tips.
wow, your Barbie designs are gorgeous! your English Piecing work is really beautiful too; your Xmas in July designs are super cute
Love that you give so much love to old things❤
Love the beautiful Barbie gowns, enjoyed your talking about the Barbie movie, and like your hexagon blocks - so unique and very different from Kate's.
“We’re not minimalists, we’re more like maximalists “ 🤣
Quilting is very very pretty! Love design it’s gorgeous!
Christmas in July .. I’ve started making my Christmas cards a mixture of cross stitch and paper craft ❤
I own 1959 original Barbie. My mom made a white brocade evening gown wth a black net with velvet waist detachable overskirt with beading at the bodice. Also have original dream house from 1960s.f
You guys are so talented. Thanks for sharing your love of all things beautiful.
Thank you for mentioning the Architectural Digest about the Barbie House. Very interesting. .

Thank you for watching!
Looking forward to to watching this episode after work tonight! SAKFAB rocks!!! ❤
Me too. I'm watching a quick 10 minutes while on my break then can relax after work tonight with my crochet.
My grandma also taught me how to use clothing to make patterns. She was very talented
Thanks for showing us your genius in action. Beauty in the making. ❤❤
New Tshirt slogan "I'm not here to brag". More Arne-isms!!
Hi guys! Thanks for the new stocking & holiday ball discount! I bought these patterns yesterday plus the turquoise scarf pattern!
I love to hear you two talk about design. Thanks !
