I really love the way that the armor is designed for them in _Dark Souls_ with the hip plates leading down to the tail axe blade, and even the eye shield. It's just a cool look for creatures designed as animate statues that defend a castle using halberds and shields.

I personally love how the gargoyles in DS1 don't look like a statue that comes to life(definition of a gargoyle) but rather a creature/animal/beast that can sit in a guard position for long periods of time that anor londo just decided to put Armor on.

Elden Ring has a recurring theme of multiple identities. Margit - Morgot, Renna - Ranni, Marika - Radagon and even some NPC's like hayetta or shabriri. I knew the gargoyles had 2 faces prior to this video, but I just realised how gargoyles always come with two sets of weapons and change fighting styles frequently during battle. This seems to have a lot of tie in with the dual personality theme, perhaps the two faces each take their turn fighting? Just a thought.

I'll still fight DS3 gargoyles before fighting those horrible winged knights, especially the ascended version. those 3 ones that drop down on the roof before the Twin Princes are a nightmare and I still haven't killed all 3 for the slab that drops. Now, Elden Ring gargoyles can absolutely piss off. I haven't touched Elden Ring in a couple of months or so now, but I tried the Valiant Gargoyle fight a bunch and consistently got wrecked. I can't tell if I'm way underleveled for them or if me going pure melee is making the game several times more difficult than it needs to be, or a combination of the 2.

That Gargoyle that blocks your way to the bonfire right at the beginning of Profaned Capital always felt like a d*ck move. Especially on that narrow, crumbling stone bridge where you can't easily run past it. All that after you've just endured Irithyll Dungeon. I suck it up and fight that one at the very least. They're weak to strike damage, so that knowledge might be helpful. And the spear ones have attacks that you can bait.

Haven't fought the Bell Gargoyles in DS1 yet and haven't gotten far enough in DS2 to see any at all. I don't mind the DS3 gargoyles except for them putting 2 in that cramped area on the way to Yhorm's fight. I gave up fighting those more because of the smaller enemies spewing fire and making things even more difficult. The only gargoyles I've really fought in Elden Ring so far are the Valiant Gargoyle pair in Nokron. I still haven't beaten them and I hate that fight. I feel like they took the Bell Gargoyle fight and ramped it way up while throwing in some stuff from DS3 gargoyles. I'd much rather fight ones spewing fire over ones spewing poison any day. Doesn't help that I'm being stubborn and insisting on completing Elden Ring with a melee build. I use FP for items, spirit summoning, and weapon arts, and that's it. I know I could handle the Valiant Gargoyle fight better with magic, but at this point it's a matter of principle in not caving to using magic for everything.

They look human because they were made from corpses and wax but I agree the traditional stone ones look cool

Well the whole aesthetics of Elden Ring is a distorted and weird version of conventional designs so it kinda makes sense.

Where did they go wrong with the gargoyles in Elden ring? They have absolutely zero weaknesses in the entire game, large and fast and heavily damaging attacks and placed in the worst possible places. I seriously hate these enemies they used to be so fun in the other games just man...what did they do to them
Does anyone else think they are just incredibly hard to fight?

      What lmao
They're perfectly fair 1v1 fights, idk what you're talking about here. They have fair counters to all attacks and have fairly sized punish windows

just stand under their body they literally miss everything while you attack them, just don't panic roll as their attack constantly but it miss as long as you are under them.

@@cardmossdn8058 have you SEEN how big they are? How wide a reach they are as far as their attacks go? In other gargoyle fights & even the infamous Maneaters, they were your size & didn’t strafe so much. And their attacks were manageable, for the most part. And do NOT even get me started on the duo fight in Nokron. It’s already bad enough they hit really hard on their own, even WITH armour & defensive talismans on you, but it’s worse when you have to fight 2 at once because FromSoft fucking said so, and STILL get killed even with max summons, right levels, max weaponry & excellent dodge timings. I just gave up hope on ever understanding why From made dumbass duo fights like that! In fact, it’s design choices like that & countless others why I just quit FromSoft altogether.

@@AlastorAltruistGaming the duo fights in Elden Ring are ass, yeah, but not all duo fights are.
Demon prince, ornstein and smough, and sister friede phase 2 are all examples of balanced, well done duo fights
As for 1v1 fights with the Elden Ring gargoyles, they’re perfectly fine. It’s doesn’t matter how big they are or how far their attacks go, they give you fair opportunities to punish them after attacks/combos. You can always see what they’re doing, and always have a viable way to avoid attacks and punish.
They are completely fair, well designed enemies

@@cardmossdn8058 the other games? Absolutely! I’m not ever going back to them, but I still agree regardless. I can’t understand why From took several steps backwards in terms of boss design, especially for duo & trio fights. I’ve never had too much troubles with Ornstein & Smough, I finally managed to take down that stupid Lud & Zallen fight (even though THAT was horrible), never had too much problems with Lorian & Lothric, nor the Shadows of Yharnam, Demon Prince or the Ruin Sentinels. The Headless Ape & Wife fight is still questionable & boring. But the duo fights in Elden, as you & I have said, are trash. I mean, it’s like FromSoft stopped caring about making fights balanced; Ik there’s Sleep Pots you can use for the Godskin Duo, but I try to at least fight offensively & fight fair! I just can’t understand how this mixed bag was ever OK for release when it could’ve easily had more time to be fixed, nor will I ever understand how THIS won GOTY despite being boring, uninteresting & broken! I genuinely feel like it takes the best of every other Souls game & doesn’t know what to do with itself!
