The last thing we are gonna do in this video is look at a major Switch 2 leak. It's not so much what we are looking at but what we are not looking at. If it sounds confusing... It kind of is. Let's break it all down.

It has always been a second half 2025 game. No idea who started thinking otherwise. Nintendo has told developers shoot for a fall 2025 release window for games made with next console in mind.

There has been a pretty major paradigm shift in how render engines in games operate that a lot of people just haven't been addressing, that makes comparisons between the old style systems like ps4 and ps4 pro, and modern ones like steamdeck and switch 2 misleading if not accounted for.
And this shift is on the importance of prioritizing compute performance over raster performance in modern rendering engines.
Everyone's familiar with a slice of it, fsr and dlss are pure examples of what performance improvements using shaders for compute over raster can bring to the table, but general purpose compute on the gpu has many many many use cases.
Probably one of the biggest is its made polygons "limitless". This buzzword of course is not accurate to the letter, there are limits, but pretty much in spirit, you don't really need to be as concerned by them anymore.
This is because there is now so much more compute, and its so fast, that rendering engines can now cull unnecessary to render polygons that wont be seen, with vastly superior speed efficiency, and accuracy than before, even before they are textured. Which saves a massive amount of resources that can then be put back towards what CAN be seen, instead of just being wasted performance. Essentially, theu can double or triple the APPEARANCE of how many polygons there are, because they caught and repurpose ones that wouldn't be visible instead of wasting time processing them. Polygon culling is not a new concept, it's just vastly better now. Vastly.
As a pertinent example to this situation, with ps4 being compared to deck and switch 2, the ps4 was an 18 CU gpu, balanced with 14 CU's for raster, and 4 CU's for compute. While you were free to use all 18 cu's for raster, holdong back those 4 for compute actually led to better performance with higher fidelity visuals than going all raster, the vast majority of the time. I'm not even aware of any cases where it didn't.
So PS4:
Raster: 14 CU's @800 Mhz = 1.433 Tflops fp32.
Compute: 4 CU's @ 800 Mhz = 0.409 Tflops fp32 Compute. Base Ps4 doesn't support fp16 acceleration.
Steam Deck has 8 cu's, but they are clocked up to a bit more than twice as high as ps4. But deck supports 2x fp16 acceleration. So let's use 2 CU's for steamdecks compute.
Steamdeck:
Raster: 6 CU's @ 1.6 Ghz = 1.228 Tflops fp32.
Compute: 2 CU's @ 1.6 Ghz = 0.819 Tflops fp16
It has almost the same raster performance as ps4, but twice the compute performance.
Switch 2 uses an Nvidia RTX GPU. These don't use the main shaders for compute, they use tensor cores, which can run at the same time doing their own thing, and have an 8x hardware acceleration over fp32 for fp16. Switch 2 has 12 sm's, with 1536 fp32 cuda cores for raster and 1536 fp16 (48 tensor cores, 32 per core) Let's downclock the potential switch 2 clock speed even more than switch 1 was downclocked, just to be safe, all the way down to 1ghz from amperes normal 1.7 ghz.
Switch 2 (docked):
Raster: 12 Sm's @ 1ghz = 3.072 Tflops fp32
Compute: 48 tc @1ghz =24.5 Tflops fp16.
Nvidia, and through them nintendo are banking on the upcoming compute shift.
The further modern games lean into compute over raster, the better off switch 2 is going to be.

Off topic, but if Nintendo decides to have backwards compatibility, I think you would be able to buy a product that will be able to plug into the dock and connect the old cartridges in that way

Edit: kay i realized i have a shitty phone cuz i used my same earbuds on a tablet and this works better/louder (plus my earbuds and tablet are both samsung so that may be a problem with my non-samsung phone) also yes i was complaining cuz i wanted to hear and watch the video confortably, is that too much to ask?

As strong as a Steam Deck? Highly doubt it.
the steam decks performance isn’t even all that great, the switch 2 can easily surpass it.
Not really if they load one of the new high-end Qualcomm chips that are competing with the Apple chips. Keep in mind the steam deck is running a couple year old processor at this point, and ARM does scale better in such low-power applications.
That said, the new AMD APUs will be another step above, so... the Steam Deck 2 will leapfrog, whenever that shows up.
It'll probably be slightly worse than an MX 570, so 30% - 60% better than the Steamdeck/PS4.
