- How to correctly use a jump ring maker for jewelry-making. Learn how to troubleshoot common issues, how not be afraid of your jump ring maker, and how to use it correctly. Make tons of jump rings without a hitch! No more broken blades, uncut rings, and mangled wire. (Video #117)
As a bonus, I've included a link to my chart on which blade size to use with which gauge and mandrel size. www.nancylthamilton.com/resour...
NOTE: I just thought of one more tip: after tons of use, check that the blade hasn't loosened over time. At our jewelry studio at Chimera Arts, our cutter gets lots of use and I have encountered loose blades before. It doesn't happen often but, it could be one of the causes why your blade may break. ; )
In this video, I am using Pepe Tools' Jump Ring Maker 2. pepetools.com/products/jump-r...

Thank you Nancy - I watched lots of other videos on this tool and they just didn’t answer the questions consistently with each other. Consequently I was scared to use this tool. After watching your video, I was confident and understood enough to go for it. On my way to being a jump ring making queen ❤
Just purchased this from Pepetools. So excited to try it. Thank you, Nancy, I wouldn't have the confidence to move forward without you!!
Just saying, I re-watch this video before each use of my jump ring maker. It's a godsend for me. This thing is a wonderful tool when it's done right, but there are so many things I forget when a month or two go by since I last used it. Thank you for all you do, Nancy!
I just got a Pepe jump ring maker and I love it! It’s way too much fun to make them. Now I just have to learn the sizing and things like that.
Thank you Nancy! You are so incredibly thorough. I hate making jump rings by hand and am buying the Pepe tool. You have saved me a great deal of ongoing frustration. And now I can be safe!!!! Loads of thanks!
So nice to see you back Nancy!
The tape tip made all the difference. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing with us!! You work hard and share that hard work with us. Huge blessing!
Wow! Finally!! A Nancy Hamilton video! Yay! I missed you Nancy, hope you are well.
I posted one 3 weeks ago. Did you miss it? Hope not! I try to produce about one a month but, ya never know. Thanks for missing me!!!
Thanks Nancy - we are just about to do a chain making class at our Club using the jump ring maker so this is very timely as well as being super informative. We've all been a little nervous about using this machine. Thank you so much for all that you do - I love your videos!
Thank you for your time and help Nancy❤️❤️❤️😘
Thanks for the video and for the chart you made (I've printed it out and hung it in my studio for reference) the tape trick is great for holding them all together...I also wanted to add (sorry if you already mentioned) but getting the flex shaft to full speed before running it thru the rings has been very helpful to me. If my speed is too low or variable, I run into problems with cutting them.
Just seeing this now after coming across your wonderful, generous and very helpful chart in an FB group. I'm one of those whose device has been mostly on the shelf-- I'd been using the coiler and the mandrels but was cutting my coils with a saw because I was afraid of it after a few fails. Now I can try it again with more confidence. Thanks so much! Saving this to watch when I use it.
THANK YOU!!! I so appreciate your experience, talent, and generosity of sharing what you know!
Thank you Nancy....love the tape tip! Also love my Pepe Jump Ring Make II
Thank you, Nancy! Love your videos!
Thanks Nancy, very helpful
Nancy, it's lovely to see you post again. Your videos are always so well thought out and I've learnt so much from you over the years. You have always been and continue to be such an inspiration :) What's more, you have this great sense of humor that has always made me laugh out loud. I'm sure you have your reasons, but I would love to see your lovely face more in upcoming videos. if that's not possible/convenient, I'll still be watching :) Much love.
Thank you so much for the tutorial. I was scared to use mine. It’s been sitting in the box . I learned so much 👍
I'm sure a few others are afraid of theirs too! Be brave and try again! Have fun.
You make everything look so simple! I am the one who bought 2 different jump ring makers. I couldn't get either to work. I had the entire thing jumping all over my bench. It was smoking and jump rings were flying everywhere. And yes, I was terrified of using it!
Thanks Nancy. Love your videos and trust your opinions. Bless your heart. xoxo
Thanks for the help. I'm doing something wrong with my Koil Kutter, and I'm frustrated. I'm going to recheck the alignment of the blade with jump rings in the holder. Also, I think now I may have been going to slow. Thanks, and good timing. Love the new logo!
Thank you :) you have helped me again.
Thank you!
Good job
Thanks love
Too funny! I just went through this, this week! I saw the arrow on the top of the blade and said hey that going the wrong way!! So, I have reverse on my foredom, the EASIEST cutting I’ve ever done!! Lol
I’ve had it for 3 years and have broke blades and it bound & bind and make an awful noise that would scare the hell out of me so I’d choose not to use it! Now easy peezy, a sweet quick sawing “buzz” and voila! Beautiful jump rings! I can’t believe I didn’t see that the blade should either be upside down on the shaft or to use reverse until now!! 😂😳🤦🏻♀️
Live and learn to tell about it!! 😂
Thank you, I'll try it again now that I know what went wrong.
Great video, thanks so much. I have a love/hate relationship with my PePe maker and I am certain its my doing. It seems that too much metal is being removed from the cut rings, so I dont have nice edges. I cant just close them up when using in a project. the gap is a little too large. This is why I have gone to just hand making a few at a time, by hand, on the mandrel, then having to saw each one individually which is awfully time consuming and still not as a pretty gap as I would like. Any suggestions for me? Again, thanks for the help and the spreadsheet guide!!
Like always one more wonderful video., I have my jump ring maker for many years and I’m desperate trying to find OVAL MANDRELS, but I can’t find them, please let me know if you know where to find it ???
Pretty neat, love how you roll with your issues.
Very curious if you've cut much Stainless steal? I know it's much harder than copper/aluminum.
...also what type of pendant motor do you have? Doesn't look like a Foredom flexshaft, which I expected.
Do Dremels have a sleeve for jump ring cutting?
can this kit make jump rings from a dead soft 8 guage wire ?
Nancy, What is the shortest length of coils that can be cut? Say..I only need 10-15 Sterling silver jump rings???
I'm sorry to ask, because you've probably answered this question a million times, but; the cuts on my jump rings are coming out pinched every time.the ends aren't flat. Is it just the cutter. or am I doing something wrong? Thank you.
❤
Heck, I did not even know that jump rings were measured in miles... ;-)
In my studio they are!
I file down the end of 12 gauge wire so it will fit in the hole.
masking tape, how easy is that!!
Totally!
Nice set up although in the time it takes to set it I could have cut 100 rings by hand
$250 for a jump ring maker? No.
