I actually prefer Movie Greg than book Greg. Movie Greg is much nicer and more willing to take responsibility for his actions, not to mention that he has better relationships with his family and Rowley.
Plus most of the changes make him a better character. He stuck up for Rowley at the end of movie 1, his reason for doing something to the kids kinda was something that can be seen as a way to protect them, he feels more shame, and he gets out of Spag Union because he didn’t want his father’s honor destroyed and not that he was salty toward him and lucked out.

I agree. But there were reviewers such as Margaret Pomeranz who qualified movie Greg as 'dislikable' and the movie conscensus for the 1st one in Rotten Tomatoes said the movie failed to portray Greg as a likable protagonist. I think the nicest movie Greg was Rodrick Rules, and the worst one was The Long Haul (although I am aware that some people won't count that one).

As a person who enjoys psychology this is a great series, but I will say greg is a psychopath not a sociopath. A psychopath is under the antisocial personality disorder just like a sociopath but psychopaths are more stable and aren't as impulsive as sociopaths. We see this as greg repeatedly diverts all the blame for his trouble onto others. Sociopaths lie and about their actions. Also psychopaths understand emotions but use it to manipulate people and do commonly show signs of narcissism. This series is great and I will ask my teacher if we can do these types of analysis more. We are currently diagnosing characters in the movie The Dark Night. I really enjoy what you are doing and I don't mean to discredit you in the least just sociopath and psychopath are different personalities.

@@abovethelaw4417 Plus, he is impulsive, unlike the far more patient and smooth psychopath. And psychopaths have little emotions, while Greg often shows emotions like anger and embarrassment. To be honest, I don't think he's a sociopath either. I think he is just a jerk. Plus, he does have his good-hearted moments.
@AJR Is My Eternal Love Yeah, I know. As for the sociopath part, people under 18 can't be true sociopaths, so I believe Greg still has 6 years left to redeem himself. If he doesn't...well, our lovable jerk won't so lovable after all (albeit still not a psychopath).

I think Greg has some empathy and a moral code, but when it's difficult for him to follow it he goes against it and makes excuses.
Helping his brother with a science fair project was nice and definently meant sacrificing some time, but it's not a HUGE sacrifice.
Something I really friggin love about the movies is that they show you the perspective of everyone else as well. Making it easier to show when Greg's being a jerk.

I think it would be a good idea to review the movies alongside the books as what "really" happened compared to Greg's perspective. The movies make a big deal out of humanizing every character and making them look like at least decent people, especially Rodrick, who Greg would obviously paint in a negative light to make himself look better, despite all the good moments they share.

i had school state testing this week, i was first and had to wait for 2 hours till everyone finished so of course i read the entire diary of a wimpy kid series, i forgot how good it was wow. memories.

I understand you about Greg being mean because of Rodrick. I agree about the mom, since she has favoritism for Manny (My favorite character). The sympatethic character to him is his dad, but the dad also is a mean person, because in the eleventh book, Greg entered the school orchestra so he could only get invited to a girl’s party, but Frank wants him to stay there playing his French horn. Unfortunately, on the day of a concert, he is locked away by one of his mates and is forgotten that he joined, but, Rowley saves him, only to be also locked by accident. Frank notices this, and goes to see what happend, and gets angry at Greg because he thought he and Rowley where goofying around. Greg tried to explain what happend, but Frank doesn’t let him talk to hear Greg’s side of the story, and he unfairly punished his son with no TV, friends and video games, and didn’t even heard Greg’s perspective, and only let’s him practice the French horn! Frank is a irresposible father, Vailskum!
