I think calling Greg a sociopath is kind of harsh considering he's a middle schooler who grew up being bullied by everyone. He's desperate to be respected by everyone because nobody has ever respected him before, so his ideals on friendship and how you should treat others is pretty skewed. I think the only reason that theory even comes up is because he's not at all like most child protagonists and he seems starkly evil in comparison. But I think he's just an average middle school kid who should have just been treated with more respect when he was younger.

Yeah, I have to agree. Getting bullied messes with your mindset, for some people it makes them easier or targets to manipulation, as their eager for even the slightest hint of friendship. And for others, that makes them unlikable people, of course there could be more outcomes.

Unfortunately for that theory however, sociopathy is undiagnosable in children. These personalities can often be outgrown or changed from childhood to adulthood. I honestly think Greg is just a kid with a behavior problem.

You missed the fact that he and Rowley dug down a time travel box. He had a need to get junk food, so he decides to get the money out of the box. Rowley, not knowing this, does not see this going on. Anyways, he finds Rowley’s stuff in there. He decides to STEAL his stuff to use it in HIS house.

The cartoon X over Rowley's eyes isn't the typical eyes portrayed when somebody dies in a cartoon. Sometimes those Xs are used when a character is unconscious or knocked out in a cartoon.

If I were Holly, I would also prefer Rowley more than Greg. I know sometimes he's very naive and so, but at least Rowley is a true friend. In comparison with Greg. And if Rowley gets any true friends, he might even realize one day, what a jerk Greg actually is and how real friendships work.
I hope Rowley finds a better girlfriend than Abigail from Hard Luck.

This was My all-time favourite book of all. I know it's a forgettable classic, but, to me it's the funniest to me! I love how Greg has a crush on Holly, gets nervous about being shipped to Military school (Spag Union). It was also the first Diary of a wimpy kid book that made me interested to the book series. I love it when Holly literally calls Greg Fregley. I know it's not the most popular, but it will remain as my favourite book.
