    Best presentation I found. Thanks Foer producing it.
    Recommendations for sandblasting polymer gun forearm & stocks
    My project - Polymer parts. Brand new non coated. Not a stripping application.
    My goal - Prep the part surfaces, best adhesion for a DURACOAT spray finish.
    ■ Media recommendation. i.e. 180 grit aluminum oxide
    ■ Pressure i.e. 30psi
    ■ Protective glove type?
    ■ Distance from nozzle to part?
    ■ Part Cleanup after done?
    Thanks for helping me.

    Thanks for the reply Jeff. when I buy the sand I use it right away. Today I bought another piece of pipe to tape next to the one that comes with the sand gun. The reason why I have done this is because I thought it would help with the suction. Of course I saw this being done on a RUclips video. So I drilled a few holes at the bottom of it thinking that would solve the pulsing problem. well it didn't. however I did notice that when I get low on sand it seems to work better. I also bought a water separator as well because. Water vapor keeps getting in my airline. even after I put it on I still got water vapor. It didn't make any sense why I kept getting water vapor. well, when I was done for the day, I just happened to look at the bottom of my air tank and seen this valve. My compressor isn't all that old so I never realy paid any attention to this mystery valve. So I read the sticker that was above the valve and it told me to drain the tank everyday or after each use. So I opened her up and let the air out. I read a little more and it said to tilt the tank to let the water out and boy did the water come out. I want to say half a cup of water. shocked the shit out of me. I had no idea. so tomorrow I will be buying more sand and now that I have an empty dry tank, I am hoping that will solve my water vapor and pulsing problem. Also I have been sifting my sand through this metal grate I bought at Walmart. "I think the woman use it for flour or something", anyways, works great but takes up a lot of my time. So I have come up with this idea to drill a hole close to the bottom of the pipe and stick a cotter pin through it so to keep out the big rocks. no more sifting I hope. Got any more tips to share by all means lets hear it. Will let you know how it all turns out. Its all just a process of elimination...

    Hi Jeff. I have the same blasting gun and it works OK. If you use the gun outside, spread a large tarpaulin on the ground and if possible pull it up one side to form a backstop to catch the grit. Then sweep it up with a broom later. Saves waste. Cheers Rob

    Hey jeff, josh from phx az.. i love the sand blasting man. Im just about to buy one so i can save time on cleaning vehicle parts for my rebuilds and refurbishing.. i do engine rebuilds and refurbish older vehicles. I love how fast the sandblasting works. Its a ton faster then doin it by hand. Having the right tool for the job helps you put out a better product. Ill be gettin one soon. Thats awesome man. Keep up the good work.

    Good stuff. .. I have been toying with the idea of buying a blast cabinet for a while now. I did buy a small DIY powder coat kit from Habor Freight which came in handy on my Harley re-build. ..... BTW, I'm in New Haven county so not too far from you.

    I did a little research, this compressor is older than I am and there is no manual. Judging by the size of the heads and how fast the tank reaches 150psi I would estimate it to be in the 18 - 20 CFM range.
    The sandblast gun I use came with the "Sandy Jet Abrasive Blasting Cabinet - 36in., Model# 41391" off the Northern Tool website. Hope this helps :)

    Hi Dana & Jeff. Thanks for the video, it was very helpful. I just have one question. I'm looking to get into sandblasting and the only thing I'm a bit stuck on is finding the right sized air compressor. I've found one that's 4.5 gallons, 2.5HP, 230V, 115PSI, 8 BAR but only has 4 CFM. Would you say that 4 cfm is a bit low for sand blasting? What sort of power etc would you recommend? Thanks!

    find an old vacuum cleaner which can be used for a blower so that you will not get oil particles in your lungs and attach it to the back of the helmet to have positive air pressure in the face mask to carry away the moisture when breathing and keep out the sand

    • @jeffreysanto

      You could... in fact I have seen people put down heavy duty tarps to catch sand and then just sweep it up. As long as you can keep it free of dirt, grass, and the weather is not damp you should be good.

    Hi Dana & Jeff, If you hook up a low pressure air line to the top of your helmet it would keep you cool & fresh air and the air flow will keep the dust out. My car alloy wheels are well past polishing but they need oxide, paint & road dirt cleaning off any advice you can give me?

    • @jeffreysanto
      @jeffreysanto  10 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the tip on the air line, going to give that a shot over the summer.
      For your wheels I would contact a local powder coating guy and find out what he would recommend. I mostly sandblast steel and don't need to worry about the abrasives I use. Someone who powder coats would know how to clean and prepare just about any kind of metal.

    • @jeffreysanto
      @jeffreysanto  4 года назад +1

      Your compressor should be fine, this time of year it might be a moisture problem due to humidity. It can cause the media to clump together. Check your tank and line filters too, drain any water that accumulated and see if that helps. I start with the easiest things to trouble shoot first then move my way up from there.

      That’s a bad idea. I know people want to believe that they have found something much cheaper than what is made for the purpose, but usually, it’s not true, what they’ve got is something inferior, that may very well cause problems down the road. I would never powder coat over play sand sandblasted surfaces.

    Do you know how many scfm it puts out? Im running a 60 gallon 3.5 hp 220 volt and it runs pretty much nonstop while sandblasting. What kind of sandblast gun is that? Mine tends to spit and clog at times. Might be normal.

  • @outlawflyer7868
    @outlawflyer7868 7 лет назад

    I use play sand and its very cheap at lowes for less than $5 bucks before taxes. What are you using? I have the same gun and for some reason mine pulsates when i use the gun. its not the compressor so what do u think is happening?

    • @jeffreysanto
      @jeffreysanto  7 лет назад +2

      I use Black Diamond Blasting Abrasive medium grit. I generally get it at Tractor Supply, 50lb. bag for $7.99. As far as the pulsating mine does the same thing with old sand. I find it the sand is to fine the suction has a hard time getting it into the gun fast enough. If the sand becomes dusty or breaks down over time you end up getting more air through the gun than abrasives.

    • @jeffreysanto
      @jeffreysanto  4 года назад

      @@cubul32 It is a 220 volt motor with an Ingersoll Rand Type-30 compressor head. It is capable of 16.8 CFM at its max output which is 175 psi. Compressors with this head have been in use since World War II. The one I have came out of an old auto body shop back in the 1970's.
      The Type 30's are still made today. An entry level unit costs about $1700. I'll include a link to one so you can see it. If I had to replace my system I would expect to have to pay over $3000.

      @@jeffreysanto Yes it helps a lot Jeff. I only have a consumer 27 gallon Powermate 6 CFM at 90 PSI ... And I sit and wonder if I'll be able to do my car parts (brake parts cleaning, and under the car in certain rusty spots). Have anyone tried this type of a gun using water instead of air?

    • @jeffreysanto
      @jeffreysanto  4 года назад

      Water would cause the sand to clump up and clog the system. There are abrasive systems that use water but traditional sand blasting only uses air.
