I have an old snap on blaster that had a broken flood light on the inside and the ground wire wasn't even there so when I plugged it in and blew the circuit, that's when I said: "yup I need a new light in this. " Because just like you I didn't wanna spend $60 on a new one I bought a corded Craftsman LED work light for $20 and just wired it in to where the old light was wired and it works great.

you need to explain about sandblasting on angles, heavy metal can be shot straight on, but sheet metal you must do at a 30 degree angle or you will turn it into a cup shape. Pressure and grit play a huge factor in blasting too.

I sift the sand about every 4 hours of use. If it has a lot of surface rust I'll take a wire brush to it and get all the heavy stuff off and to the final cleaning in the blast cabinet. I also have a bucket of used sand I can use outside the shop that I don't worry about reclaiming for future use. :)

Anyone have any video or links that goes more in depth? Like what air compressors to use, guns, technique and all?? Really want to get into this to have for my project cars an little things like walnut blasting my valves.
What type of air compressor do you recommend? HP, cfmn, one stage or two stage, # of gallons?

Sandblasting does clean metal up real well

Hopper - noun - a funnel-shaped chamber or bin in which loose material, as grain or coal, is stored temporarily, being filled through the top and dispensed through the bottom.
Unprotected metal will actually rust overnight if its humid outside. Best bet is to sandblast what ever the object is clean it with something like denatured alcohol and a rag, then at least hit it with a coat of suitable primer.

Jeff. I just bought a Sears Craftsman sandblaster for 35.00 off a guy. Has the same gun. I have a 150 gallon compressor. It has sand in it. What material do u Recommend and PSI for stripping dirt bike frames/ BMX. Thanks Bud. Great Video
@YoureAlwaysRight: For some reason I can't reply to you directly but here is your answer. If it is a lot of small parts I can do in the blasting cabinet where the sand gets reused I charge by the part based on size and shape.
If it is a large item like a car bumper I charge $45 dollars an hour and $15 per bag of sand used.
+Jeffrey Santo cool video - I've been sandblasting at home for some years now. Started at 17, now 32... I use a cheap gun and tried and tested almost every possible abrasive material known to man or beast. To date the best media is Kulu 200c --- it's dirt cheap ---- I've paid the overpriced blasting media R150-00 per kg ($11-00 per kg) it's not up to standard. Try it sir

Great video guys! Any suggestions on a simple outdoor setup for blasting paint off an aluminum bicycle frame. Just want to strip one or two frames and loath the thought of using stripper/scrapers/sandpaper/etc. Been there, done that. I do have a smallish compressor. Thanks.

Hi Jeffrey! Nice video. I bought the same gun and have not found where to buy replacement nozzles yet! Where do you buy and what size nozzle do you use?
To be honest I cheat, I had a heck of a time finding them and when I did they were of such low quality I decided to make my own. I buy a 4 foot piece of 1/2" round mild steel and cut 1 1/4" sections off of it. I use the lathe to face each end of the stock then drill a 7/32" hole through it. Its not the best situation but I can make 34 nozzles in about 2 hours. Each one lasts me about 2 solid hours of blasting.
As a suggestion. You really do need at least a good dusk mask. A respirator is better. Silica dust even in small amounts escaping or even opening and closing the door is nasty stuff. Really enjoy your videos by the way.

I have built a blasting cabinet, got the gear including a syphon gun.
Problem is it will not syphon up the medium, any suggestions??
Depending on the manufacturer of the gun there could be different tips for the it.
Another thing, I had the same issue when I first got mine. I shortened the feed hose to only what I needed. I had about 20 inches more in the cabinet and I was loosing a lot of the performance . It really helped cutting off what I didn't need, it create more suction in the system.
Foggy plex... Sand with 800 grit, clean it... Paint with 2k clear coat... Crystal clear again

I do use a vacuum, an older shop vac but I do not use it all the time. When you first buy the sand and its new the dust is not to bad. Once you have been using it over and over again it breaks down and the granules of sand eventually turn to dust as they become more and more pulverized. The vacuum separates very fine particles which are useless in sandblasting for the most part.
Are you allowed to sandblast fiberglass car parts or will it get eaten up?
Yes you can sandblast fiberglass but you have to look into what material you need to run through the sand blaster. Some blasting systems can use sand, glass beads or baking soda. Some environmentally friendly systems use dry ice. When they "blast" old army tanks in the US they shoot steel ball bearings at the metal to clean it.
I would suggest talking to a local marina, lots of fiberglass boats there and many marinas have people who maintain and repaint boats. They may be able to give you a good idea of what needs to be done to sandblast it safely without damaging the material.

Best way is to Bath your foot in hot water with salt u will find its so good don't forget to dry your feet with hair dryer
I see that is not an incandescent bulb but a fluorescent one, but still, if it emits any significant amount of heat, I would worry about the hydrocarbon fumes (carbon monoxide, dioxins, furans, etc.) that are released when you heat that mayonnaise jar. Food grade plastic is not meant to be heated, and the resulting fumes it creates are harmful. An LED bulb would probably be okay, but I'm not sure about a fluorescent one.
What do you use for the blasting media ie sand?
Its called Black Diamond, you can get a 50lb bag from tractor supply for about $8

It basically gets blasted into dust. The main thing you should be wary of is lead paint, and not only because aerosolizing lead is a health hazard; lead paint dust will seriously clog up your nozzle and tubing.
Might any of you know if one could effectively utilize a Campbell Hausfeld (aka, El Cheapo) siphon feed gun for wet sanding? The infuriating, ceaseless task which currently requires me to dry an endless supply of media has become monotonously angering. Admittedly, the significantly less troublesome alternative of replacing aforementioned 'endless media supply' is simply unacceptable. Three hundred plus gallons is in no way....well, I'll just acknowledge that it is certainly not what is commonly referred to as 'chump change'.

Are there any health concerns if doing sandblasting without a chamber? I was planning to sandblast my car chassis outside my garage.
+clima You'll want to wear a dust mask and you will also want to cover all your skin, lots of ricochets! In the part 2 video I talk about sandblasting outside, I show the safety gear needed.
Jeffrey Santo thanks for your time, I was planning to wear a tyvek suit , gloves and a 3M mask, with a face shield or googles. I will check your other video.
+clima Those 3M masks on Amazon at $20 are one of the greatest deals you will ever find. All you need is a P100 filter set for blasting and then get a set of charcoal filters for spraying your primers .

3M 6000 Series Half Facepiece Respirator, Medium . Just search that up on Amazon. Only 15 bucks, cheaper than I thought. You can get a wider size as well as different and replacement filters.
Didn't watch the whole thing but what happens to the rust and other particles that are brushed away?
Karl P. Most of the sand that is pulverized into dust and other light weight debree gets sucked out the side into a shop vac.

wouldn't electrolysis remove the rust better? the downside being you'd have to leave it in the bucket overnight, as i recall.
Electrolysis has its merits and cleans rust off really well if it is done right. Sandblasting is a lot faster and I can use it to remove surface corrosion from more than just steel, I can stand blast copper, brass, bronze and aluminum. Plus I reuse a lot of material and the sand blasting process also removes paint.

Yes, but to work properly it needs to be Skippy Chunky Peanut Butter... not sure why, I don't make the rules...
Built myself a homemade sandblaster once out of a old 100Ib propane tank bad idea.Ended up having a hose pop off and sandblasted my hand didnt feel to good lol.Was thankful that there was only about 40psi in tank when hose popped off.

Isn't that mayo jar going to melt on that bulb??
If it is an old style bulb, over say 60 watts and the plastic jar is resting right on the bulb they I would think it would melt or deform a little bit. I've was using a 75 watt bulb for a few years set up like this and the jar was fine. Today I have a 150 watt LED bulb which emits almost no heat at all, its brighter and safer, just a little more expensive.
