So far video game adaptations have been either straight fire or absolute garbage and I really hope Mass Effect falls into the former category.

Focus on making a game. Seriously what’s the hold up they could do another protagonist that works as a mercenary and just explores the mass effect universe from that perspective and give us omega and some other worlds like Noveria.

@@thelastcrow5660 they get lazy. So it can be mutually exclusive. They do it just to shut us up for few years. It’s been 10 years since the original trilogy. And 7 since andromeda. The amount of wasted opportunity for this franchise is crazy. I mean realising a story that is within the trilogy time frame could’ve been enough or prequel could’ve been enough for a lot of fans. Something that explores the Rachni wars or the Qurian issue. The mastered the formula of the gameplay on me3 and made it even better on andromeda. Just release a good written story with some decision making. That’s all. How hard is that ! The show is a distraction. People want to make their own story and decisions.
@@samirsalim6992 I disagree. Don't see why we can't get both. Just let Bioware make a great game and if the team who gets behind the show is as passionate as the team who directed The Last of Us or Edgerunners, then I don't see the problem.
No it would be horrible take Halo Tv for example, these prevert took a show based on a video game of space marine shooting hostile aliens, and turned it into a porn parody. Now Mass Effect, that HAS character relationships?? THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO HELP THEMSELVES. It would be nothing but seggs and stupid petty he said she said relationship dramas. Just NO. NO NO NO Hell NO hollywood needs to stay away from this.
My guess is that the script takes place between me1 and me2 while shepard is in their coma and has characters we know make cameos. It's the best way to please fans without messing with Canon.
I'd love for them to do a story post-reapers that introduces us to all the changes that have happened since the fall of the Reapers. You can make references to the old characters (or even cameos if it's not too far in the future) while setting up the next major event in the universe. I think the community is rabid for anything post trilogy in terms of direction and story beats that we may expect or experience with the new game.
That would be like having Shepard as the main character, like Kala says it's going to face immediate scrutinization and backlash because it's not YOUR choices.
@christopherhall5361 I didn't say anything about including Shepard. In fact I was advocating for it NOT to be Shepard and the gang. Hence my "maybe have some cameos" statement. If it wasn't clear enough, I wanted a new story with new characters that would reference the past and MAYBE have some old characters make an appearance.
If it's like a thing about the reaper war or first contact war with a new group of soldiers then I think it would be great

IF, that is a very very big IF, this show does come to fruition then it will definitely have to be about anything other than Shepard. No one from the original trilogy could be in it EXCEPT as maybe a very small cameo of some kind. There are so many ways to tell a hero story in the ME universe without it revolving around Shepard. It was a galactic war and Shepard didn't fight every single battle.
I think the tv series should avoid the trilogy and andromeda storylines. There’s no reason to mess with that and it would ensure the show flops. The First Contact War or just something set in the story universe would be best. There’s lots of stories to be had, it’s a big galaxy out there.
I’m hoping that the mass effect adaptation actually fills in some of the story between mass effect 3/andromeda and 5 but most importantly it needs to be cannon, it doesn’t need shepherd but it does need real story to add to the universe.
Not having Shepard allows for more expansion of the universe anyway. Not even because I think he should die, but because he/she can't be everywhere. He or she is just one person.
I dont know if they would want to do the show between 3 and andromeda. Depending how long after 3, bioware might want to keep that time frame to themselves for the new game. Maybe have the series take place before ME1 or between ME2 and 3.

I definitely would hate to see a canon Shepard, everyone's individual character should be their canon. I hated when Lionhead did this with the Fable games where it has its own canon.

I know this is tangential, but have you considered looking up the Star Control series. It's a major inspiration to many elements in Mass Effect.
I'd like a prequel to MASS EFFECT 1 telling about the events that led to the actual videogame and focused on the stories of Archangel (Garrus) and Liara. Since they had long lives I bet they had many adventures even before Shepard was born [on april 11]. It could be the new Star Wars. Just realized Shepard's and I are both aries since I was born the day after him, the 12... We're zodiac brothers!!

A Mass Effect show could test the waters and avoid stepping on canon by focusing on the First Contact War. Bonus: they'd save on effects with 99% of characters being human, with the mysterious aliens (turians) appearing briefly on visual coms or as casualties of war.
Just doing a take on Mass Effect with the reapers and the first trilogy would make an absolutely amazing show/movie
I fell in love with that game in the first Mass Effect. Just imagining shepherd speaking to harbinger and learning about the existence of the reapers in live action makes me want the og story with a new take. I personally wouldn’t be as interested in an animated show, they’re just not my thing.

Depends. Fallout TV show is quite good. It can work if done properly and with good budget.
I think a Mass Effect show should be animated, not live-action. Live-action would be so much more difficult to get right, not to mention you can get the original cast to reprise their roles.
Live action, about Anderson, rite after he told shepard he wasn't going with him and got on shuttle, all the battles he had on earth waiting for help, or Young Anderson's beginnings and his run in with Saren, No Shepard

Animated series. Also they could make it in Unreal Engine, which means they could possibly reuse some assets they're making for the next game? So they would look the same visually. (And lower the costs.)
An animated Anthology of smaller episodes about all the different characters could be great. So many of the characters in Mass Effect have great stories that happen off-screen that are hinted at. Maybe you could do an episode of Garrus while he's still at C-Sec, tracking down Dr Saleon. Maybe you could show Wrex arguing with his father and eventually killing him. Wrex also tells another story where he's basically fighting with another bounty hunter, around this space-station and they're chasing each other everywhere. The station blows up and then he receives a message saying "Better luck next time." That'd be a cool story to tell. Or you could tell the story of James when he has to choose between saving his unit or saving the collector data. Or the story of how Aria came to be the leader of Omega. There are so many really cool, rich stories that you could tell in that universe, without ever touching on Shepard.
I always picture the first three games as a show. Each season is each game from the trilogy. Shame, not everyone's journey for Shepard will match mine. It's understandable why a live-action adaptation of the trilogy may be an impossible task.
The things I would do for an arcane style tv show that goes deep into Mass Effect's lore. Also, as much as I love Mass Effect's characters, I want any of them to be in the show aside from cameos. Kinda like how CDPR did with Cyberpunk: Edgerunners which holds it's ground without having anything to do with the game.
It would be cool to see how the citadel was initially built/funded and the creation of the first council. Also, a live action show would be more memorable even if it was one season, but pulling a budget like that would mean that the studio already has high hopes for the show and the Fallout show was renewed for a second season before it even hit the platform, which is rare. Of course, only time will tell. I’d love to see it either way.
I don't need a TV show, I want to play. The next game like Mass Effect won't come out until 2029, that's too late for me.

Good marketing strategy would be to release a TV Show shortly before or after "Next Mass Effect" game to boost it's sales.
I would love if it were to start from the First Contact War, or sometime after. Helps give strangers to Mass Effect an understanding of the world building that occurs overtime, and offers a unique introduction to each of the alien races in a time where humans are likely unsure of how to coexist with them. Although that may be too simple of a narrative approach depending how ya twist it.
It'd be interesting to see if Blasto makes an appearance or better yet a full Blasto movie in theatres like some Despicable me vibe going on hehe.
Personally I would like to see a limited series of the Prothen team on Ilos at the end of the last cycle, starting with the lead up to going into stasis then them waking up from stasis working on solving the keeper issue, jumping to the citadel and then dying one by one believing they had brought an end to the cycles. If the Shepard story isn't going to be told in a TV series then the Reapers are surely not going to be a mystery that slowly gets revealed during the course of a series, it will be covered by exposition and flashback.
the effect of live action turians and Krogen (not sure if i spelled that correctly) much like biotics and omni-tools depends solely on the studio's CG budget. Honestly for a streaming serais animation seems like the most viable option, and honestly that Anime stile thing that depicted James Vega's ill fated data recovery of Collector intel made me want to spend the next hour bashing my head agents a wall

A good Mass Effect would be a bigger hit than the other game IP shows, but with the aliens it would need a MASSive EFFECTs budget. They could keep that cost down by following Cerberus operations to reduce the interactions with the aliens that could only be CGI.
If they wanted to force a canon ending, for the new game, then retelling ME1-3 as a TV series would be a way to lock that in for a new audience.
I think the 2 coolest options would either to be set right before me5 or right before me1. Where at the end they lead to shepard or the Normandy without actually showing shepard. I do think to prevent all of the aliens from looking goofy it should be animated
I think a Mass Effect TV show that is parallel to the game series would be great, it doesn't need to have any character from the game whether they're companions or peripheral NPC's. A story following an Alliance officer and their interactions with the other races would bring more depth to the universe and better outline human and alien relations. As is said in the game, humans are the newcomers in the galaxy and we explode across the galaxy, are granted an embassy faster than most races and put on the council faster than the Turians were. Seeing more of how the other races react to that other than some words of dialog from a few NPC's would be interesting. Especially the Batarians, having a conflict with them would be great, there's very little that deals with them other than the Bring Down the Sky and Arrival DLC's, with a few NPC conversations and codex entries but the animosity goes very deep.
I think it’s so obvious that ME tv show can start from the books of Drew Karpyshyn and story of Adm Anderson and his first love.

I tell you what I want, badly... "first contact". Yes, how humanity comes to out space, the first collonie, the rackni war. Something that make those leyends brights or if you preffer more to the "present", Last days on earth. The reaper invasion and how other flanks deals with this threat.
I think, because of money, an animated story could be the right solution. also, they can have a huge freedom in doing what they want, with the action scenes, risky stunts. but a live-action, could be great

id definitely want a series vs movie(s). if they tell shepards story i think it would have to be animated. a new story could be live action though. we'll probably hear more after dreadwolf is out and focus shifts to the next ME game.
My only issue with the First Contact War, though while it could be great, is that it’s dealing with pre-history to the main games, and would have little to do with the new game/s coming out while she show is out.

I really hope someone does a ME TV series as long as it's something new and good. I think Amazon has an idea on how to do these at this point. Fallout is giving me hope at least.

If a show focused on Shepard, it wouldn't be a problem for me. It's no different to watching someone else's playthrough. Think of it as the showrunners playthrough, it doesn't take away from your own.
That being said, I would still much prefer a new story in the same continuity. When adapting an existing story, you risk writers wanting to do their own thing with an already well written narrative. If that happens, you get things like the Halo show.

I would prefer the show doesn't feature Shepard but let's be honest Amazon will just make the choice they want and what they feel is marketable .
In that case it will likely be BroShep as he has more brand recognition (and Bioware player stats has him as the most popular), I imagine Amazon going with that.
1. Live TV series (main) + Animated shorts (character anthologies) - learn from ME Paragon's mistakes.
2. No Shepard. The character's story is done!!! (Jennifer Hale and Mark Meer can do other characters)
I loved the comment that Shepard is -I30. I would love to see a first contact but rather see Anderson focus story and prefer to see a new story unfold with new characters to love. Live action or animation doesn't matter to me, as long as, either are done well, animation would be much easier. I think it's a bit out but I do think it'll happen. Amazon has had good success with games turning into a TV series.
I wish Amazon wasn't getting the rights and instead it was Paramount/CBS. They would do it better.

The Mass Effect TV Show script got mistaken for the Halo script.
With Dragon Age, each game has a different protagonist. Which, I personally was annoyed by. I was attached to my Cousland character in Dragon Age Origins. I put a lot of hours into him. The Dragon Age 2 came out as an almost completely unrelated game, with the game itself unrecognizable as a continuation of DAO in style, gameplay, everything. One or two DAO characters make quick cameos but in a very contrived way.
Regarding a Mass Effect show, I'd be fine with either Live Action or Animated. But if I had to choose one, I'd lean towards Live Action. I enjoy animated shows, but I think a live action Mass Effect show could be far more impactful if done well.
I would like to see a TV show of the first contact war or show that follows Alec rider And him building Sam to go on Andromeda initiative his interaction with Jean Garson and if they do it right we would never see the benefactor only their voice not until they revealed the benefactor in the game. Would we get them to be revealed in the show or not at all which would always give that error mystery I think a show like that would be great
I think season one should be about humanity finding the prothean ruins on mars and going into the first contact war I would like to see a season covering the morning war, rachni war, krogan rebellion, and the turian civil war. Hardly anyone watched absolution, otherwise they would have renewed it for a second season, which is a huge shame, I imagine they have to consider that with a mass effect show as well

If I were doing it, I'd do an N7 Anthology show. Maybe this would be later, after the events of the trilogy, so maybe could be an offshot series in the future. For Shepherd's story, I want to see the Skyllian Blitz. Keep them off screen preferred, but refer to them for sure. maybe have a monument with several Systems Alliance immortalized including people that look like traditional mShep and fShep. Maybe have a couple radio transmissions done by Meer and Hale to kind of give some nods to both. 100% Keith David should just be Anderson.

I’d prefer an animated show without Shep on-screen. I would be fine with Shep’s voice actors filling in some lines over a comm call or a recording. I’m nothing if not a fan of the series voice cast. But yeah, it’s likely that Shep being on-screen wouldn’t fit some people’s preferences. I mean… I’m probably one of the few that plays a default male Shep through the whole series, which might have a higher than average chance of being the on-screen representation, and I still think it would ruin the fun for too many people to have Shep visible.
I want to see Kaidan’s journey to become a Commander with a touch of him realizing he’s Bi. I think it would be a good storyline to tell, showing him contending with all the changes to his life piling up. I think it would make a good anthology entry and Kaidan deserves some screen time to flesh him out since so many people don’t like him as much as Ash. Plus it would be awesome to see him making full use of his biotics as it can be hard to fully appreciate mid-gameplay when I’m focused on keeping Shep alive.
I don't think Amazon has Mass Effect. We would have heard something by now from somewhere, like casting being underway or studios putting "Untitled Mass Effect Project" on their credits. It's just not there. It will happen eventually though. Hollywood hates original films atm so they'll be making it eventually
A high-quality live-action could be possible. I'm still on the fence if tackling a different story or simply doing the main game story would be best. The main game story is iconic and even if every choice didn't follow my moral choices, providing it didn't deviate from the main story and so something stupid like kill off Wrex, it would be exciting. I'm glad they didn't do the movie, there just isn't enough time to do things justice unless it was a trilogy for each game. Although I have nothing against Mark Meer and his voice is just as iconic, I was always a FemShep guy and LOVED Jennifer Hale's performance. When the movie was announced a long time ago, I could only come up with a suitable suggestion for a male Shepard, I thought Michael Fassbender would have been great at the time. I struggled to think of someone who would have done FemShep justice.
I binged Fallout yesterday and agree with Gamble. As foor the ME tv show, it will be more costly than Fallout so i dunno what if ever it will happen. If it would happen i would be in favor of a totally new storyline playing during the first contact war as well. Would be a good introduction to the series. Maybe with a character like the girl in star wars outlaws. (Being an independent "rogue")

In my opinion, if we want to all people be happy. We need two Shepard´s protagonist, one male, one female. But, ¿how? I´m thinking that both be brothers or half brothers. The overall story will be the same but now this "familiar drama" will be included. Alot of storys can be made in this situtation. So, ¿what do you think? (Don´t forget that this movie or serie will be an adaptation)
One of the problems pointed out is which Shepard to portray, Femshep or Maleshep. In a video, such as ME, you play a single character thus all the point of views are your own. But, with a television show is different. The point of view can change scene to scene. You certainly can NOT have two Shepard's. That would be ridiculous. However, in a show with a Maleshep, a Paragon perhaps, you could have a character in the image of a renegade Femshep. My suggestion in all these forums through the years was to gender swap XO Lt Commander Pressley. Some away missions would have Maleshep, some would have the female "Presley" in the image of Femshep.
Another issue is that Bioware is moving on to a new story in the next Mass Effect. One would have expected that Bioware leverage the Legendary release with a TV series. But, since the next Mass Effect is years away, the story of the show would be the original trilogy. It would make sense if Bioware coordinated the show premiere with some big DLC Packard. Something at least as big as the Omega mission in ME3. This new DLC could have a new supporting cast, like Arrival in ME 2 and Omega in ME 3. The reason is actor Robin Sachs died a few years ago, so no Zaeed. And Brendon Keener the voice of Garrus seems to feel being typecast as Garrus is interfering with his on screen acting career. He hasn't participated in an N7 day in years. In the last webcast, Jennifer Hale mentioned that Mr. Keener didn't want to participate to her dismay. But she said she understood.
Also, Lance Hendrickson (Hackett) has gotten so old that he probably isn't up for it, as well as Carolyne Seymour (Chakwas)is probably retired, for the same reason. Not sure Maggie Baird(Samara) has the time being Billie Eilish's actual mother.
Actual live action might be prohibitively expensive. However, ultra realistic CGI could be feasible.

Years ago when Paragon Lost came out, I was very disappointed. To me, the animation had to be MORE realistic than the game's graphics. It just didn't make sense to me that it was stylized anime. Using hyper realistic CGI animation, you can still use the voice actors that don't look like their characters. Which is most of them. Miranda does look like the actress, Yvonne Stravoski. It goes with out saying, a realistic Krogan or Turian costume would be impossible. Liara's face and body model, aren't her voice actress. Same for Maleshep. It's some Dutch fashion model. And unfortunately, Michael Hogan, Captain Bailey, suffered a bad stroke a few years ago, and is only finally starting to walk.

The idea that any studio is going to spend 10s or 100million producing a live action TV show and then not use the face of the franchise is absurd. Superfans don't pay the bills. And this idea that it "hurts the player" to have a TV canon is simply false and misrepresents the entire purpose of an adaptation.
Long story short, the surest way to get no one to watch is a some weird anthology of superfan stories.

I think TV show set in the original trilogy can work pretty well, I'm not a very good writer but even with my limited experience I could cook something very good, there's just so much potential for drama, space horror, character development and even romance there's no point in wasting that just because there would be some controversy about canon. I dont get why people would expect their shepard to be there it's just a story. Honestly the only thing I would be slightly pissed about would be the romance choice lol but I would get over it quickly. So yeah I hope they will go for the original trilogy.
It’ll still be annoying seeing broshep when I and others play as femshep or vice versa, regardless you’d be pissing off fans, it would better having a completely new character and if need be only a mention of Shepard, that way no one would be complaining about Shepard being either male or female and who they’re romantically involved with. You’d still get people complaining but limiting it would be best.

There us a new story it’s already been confirmed that gamble was given a new script for the show franchise, and yes shep is a woman as he referred to her than him . There has already from halo by the showrunner team that it starts from the bartarians attack that made shep the hero , or sole survivor, there’s talk that the script is more halo as is in there vision than faithful, as far as I know the cast isn’t as wide and anti alien isn’t really a big thing due to current events

I love Shepard's story but I don't want it in a TV series. It won't be anything new, would be very narrow in scope and a spoiler given we all know how it goes
I want a new story. There is so much lore to explore. So much in the galactic politics to go into. In fact, don't make it central to one characters story.
