- This is Edgar Allan Poe´s Tale "The Black Cat" with subtitles. It has been edited in order to make it fit in with sir Christopher Lee´s narration.
Thanks Mr. Lee for helping me pass my Poe class from beyond the grave.
Same
Even in death, he can’t help but be awesome.
yo... not gonna lie. Poe writing is insane... but you gotta love it!
Him wishing us a good night at the end was so ironical.
Branislav Stropkai a year late but yeah lol
@@Dinonwt 5 years late but yes I agree
7 years late. same
I have a black cat and I love her so much 😍 she’s sleeping next to me right now so cute. I hate when people abuse animals that man got what he deserves.
I like how we can get Christopher Lee to just read us bedtime stories that's awesome
Anyone else falling asleep to Edgar Allen Poe’s stories? I have a copy of almost all his works and I read them as Sir Christopher Lee reads with me. Makes me sleepy
I love horror and I was assigned to read this for a class, thanks so much for this exciting listen.
For ms Lewis?
Sir Christopher Lee has a very strong posh accent. Like it.
Allan Poe was a very dark writer, that story scare me as hell.
ingemaleja Lol, I got into Poe as a first grader, I started with The Raven, and then read The Tell Tale Heart and then I decided to read this. I was traumatized.
Fr my teacher made us read this:/
@@kaworureal1736 you were in first grade?...What the hell were you thinking?
@@jimhuffman9434 I don't even know. Lol
The master
Edgar Allan Poe was truly a literary genius .
Indeed he was,but also an unfortunate soul who lived a difficult and troubled life of addiction and psychological issues...
Why's that? I just accepted it when my teachers said that, but I never asked them why?
Great to have Chris Lee reading with the words as well. I just recommended this to a 2nd language english writer as a good example of a short story in the first person. Thanks for posting.
Is this British accent ??
I remember accidentally coming across this story in a game, when I was just a little kid
What was the game?
Unusual ❤
Dark, yet beautiful.
I think “feeling insane” is a lot more relatable now. Unbelievable things for you may not have happened to others, but the difference between real and what happens is blurred. It is real when it happens to you, but some how doesn’t exist if others haven’t felt it. How are we supposed to gage experiences when comparing it to others, when all we have for reality is our own experience?
This is a frontier of the science of consciousness.
I would insist that the 'black cat' seen at the end of his tale was a real hallucination (born of his guilty conscience) that his wife also witnessed, at his insistence.
Two gentle reminders: don't drink to excess, and don't mistreat your animals.
Imagine getting exposed by your own cat.
This is such a gen-z response and I’m LIVING
You guys give some of the best succinct literary analysis I've ever seen, "no cap."
ratted out by the cat
What if all these stories were actually his journal or diary entries instead of fictional books
That'd be wild if they were journal entries lol
This was my one of the best stories by him 😍
On paper it isn’t that creepy but when read and added sounds god damn it’s scary. When you make a horror story more realistic it makes it more imaginable and only then it gets to the extent that it makes you look behind yourself every 6 seconds
This story scared and depressed me but I am glad I listened to it! Thanks for uploading this! Also used this story in a final English project!
FYI: This might contain spoilers!
I hated the beginning, but I have ALWAYS LOVED Poe! But, I heard this story many years ago and remembered it barely. I had a black cat when I was 1-10 years old. I had to leave him when I moved away because he was half an outdoor cat half indoor. And he hated planes and would have had a heart attack and died because he was 9 (which is like 60-70 for an outdoor cat) Hearing this story I thought back and remembered him... His name was Bagheera, like in the Jungle Book. He wasn't the nicest cat because he had been left at 2 weeks old by his mother. His mother, like him, was feral and was not spayed so she had so many children. My older sister found Bagheera wandering around and picked him up. We kept him (I was like a year old so I obv don't remember) because it was OBVIOUS he DID NOT belong to anyone! Fast forward and we're leaving.. he stayed with close family friends for about a year until he got sick and died. We think it might have been stressed for us leaving. But he was also old for an outdoor cat. My family didn't tell me until I was about 11 and a half. I begged them to tell me because I KNEW something was wrong. I hated my family for a long time after that... I still think back to him and it's been many years since his death. I miss him so much and hearing the fact that this guy cut his cat's EYE out because he was DRUNK and UPSET for NO REASON makes me so angry! Am I the only one!? Poe is a great writer, but everyone is ignoring that his cat had its eye cut out and then it was HUNG. HUNG! How AWFUL!!! I started to cry at the thought... Please, PLEASE tell me I'm not the only one who thought this was wrong to the cat. Then the guy went insane because he killed his friend, Pluto. So Pluto haunted him but like not really. Then he killed his wife, and was HAPPY because it got the cat (other one) to go away! Geez! I miss Bagheera and this beginning of the story brought back the look in his eyes when I turned and walked out. I was so much younger but I remember it so well. Dear stranger who reads this, if you got this far... thanks. Leave a like? I'm sharing a story no one cares about but it would mean a lot to me... Thanks if you ever find this. Anyone else feel bad for the cat? Has anyone else have the same kind of experience with a pet? Let me know and enjoy your day, I'm gonna go find some tissues :,)
Marina TheWolf I did feel bad for the car as well. Especially since I LOVE black cats the most and I think they are really sweet.
Thank you for ruining the whole story. Atleast mention at the begining that your rant has spoilers!
@@ladybookworms Thanks! I really like people who support me! :3 ...Also, not my fault you looked at the comments... sorry?
The best short story ever😍
Love this story, even better for the narrator. Perfect choice for the tale!
``Your swords please, gentlemen. Let's not make a mess of things in front of the Chancellor``
I can't sleep now,thanks.
Count Dooku reading this is perfect.
Gosh, this short story is way creepier than "The Raven" or "Ligeia". I simply love it!
Not even 5 minutes and I've cried....
Thank u for this, I understand the story better !
One of Poe's darkest stories...never read it as a kid
Thanks for the subtitles! :)
This sounds a little creepy about the knife thing
***** oh I didn't know I only had to read it for school.
Damonique Barber You should read more of his work. They are truly amazing :)
OMG i love E.A.P's writing's
It's actually "Fireside Tales" not "File Site Tales." But you did a great job on this..thank you!
This is my favorite poem. I can't stop listening to it. lol
It was the first novel that I read.Iwill never forget it
Doin it for school project but found something new, I think I like🤔👀🤷🏾♂️
I dont get why we can read crazy stories like this for school but we cant talk about GTA, guns, kids cant play with toy guns, cant talk a bout death, ect. We get it from school and they want to blame it on families .Thus world is so fucked up.
Because edgar allan poe is the father of the horror short stories his stories show a great amount of irony and perfect english his stories show how someones personal life can impact there own writing truly amazing
Goosebumps!! Very good!!
Felt bad for the cat 🐈:(
My favorite Poe story.
From my infancy I was noted for the docility and humanity of my disposition. My tenderness of heart was even so conspicuous as to make me the jest of my companions. I was especially fond of animals, and was indulged by my parents with a great variety of pets. With these I spent most of my time, and never was so happy as when feeding and caressing them. This peculiarity of character grew with my growth, and, in my manhood, I derived from it one of my principal sources of pleasure. To those who have cherished an affection for a faithful and sagacious dog, I need hardly be at the trouble of explaining the nature or the intensity of the gratification thus derivable. There is something in the unselfish and self-sacrificing love of a brute, which goes directly to the heart of him who has had frequent occasion to test the paltry friendship and gossamer fidelity of mere Man.
This is my favorite paragraph from this short story. Even Poe loved animals.
Ummmm, yeah I was going to let my mind take a walk on the dark side but ummm this is one interesting creature Edgar Allen Poe! I appreciate poems!
Love it !! Um dos meus favoritos ❤️
Dark, but beautiful.
Adopt a black cat 🖤
Not just one black cat ADOPT THEM ALL (´⊙ω⊙`)
My black cat is so irritating 😂😂he only likes me when I give him food
@@Nick-qc7wm Well mine won’t stop meowing at you when he wants attention or pets and if you ignore him, he will try to maneuver himself under your hand just so you can pet him.
Ngl all of his stories scare me and books dont usually scare me 😳😳😨
thank u .i subscribed in your chanel coz i like it
There's an entire paragraph missing from this.....
Kaylena Milhone it’s been edited
@@sharpies_yt yeah, way more than a paragraph missing
It’s abridged
Such a scary story!
Андрей Казакевич if you have readen i have 1 question can you answer
Thanks count duku!!
i went to the house(Philladelphia) he was in when he probably wrote it, the cellar with the same projection as in the story big enough to fit someone inside.
That cat's a hero!
Music is too loud.
Well done.
so messed up!
Nice.
Im crying
Not scary it's just damn man murdered his cat and wife and got his comeuppance
I'd rarely describe Poe as "scary". More like, creepy, suspenseful or just weird.
This story is the best! I love both cats and revenge stories, so this is purrfect 4 me!!!
(lol get it? I was referencing "purr"... which is a noise made by a cat ........................... which this story is about ..................... no? Ok, I'll leave. Peace)
List of stories by E.A.Poe
would love to hear the isolated vocal cut
thanks
Use this to sleep, great voice
I really need these videos to stop adding background noise and music.
I want to know the name for the intro and outro music.
I have a homework assignment on this and the question is Wher is the narrator as he is telling his story? Please help I hate school
Ngyjjcf Willkefghujbvf if I was paying enough attention, he's in jail. Or rather, death row, as he's retelling his story the day before his demise
the Gallows row - he foretold his own demise
One time, I walked into my 9th grade English class thinking déjà vu, i have done this before, I've been here before.
Doing project in school what’s the most important part in the black cat -stay spicy
this is depression
😲 wowww ty
The music in background is irritating! and there is a echo when he is reading.. shame too, wanted to hear this....will find another audio on YT.
What is it with the soung effects?
Hi, I hope you can help me, I have an assignment about this story it's (In no more than two long paragraphs or three short ones (one page), discuss how the themes of superstition and violence affect the story.)
What do you think?
nice
we got Count Dooku reading Edgar Allan Poe before GTA VI
If Count Dooku is telling me this story, I'm staying don't @ me
The entire time the teacher played this I couldn't unthink of count Dooku reading me a story.
File Site Tales? I think that's supposed to be Fire-Side Tales!
Also 4:19 Poor kitty!!
Ohh Gothic tales! I love it!
Saruman rulezzzzz ♥♥♥ ;-)
who's here just for school ( '-'/)/
Sounds like count Dooku, I heard another version where the narration was super quiet but had super loud cat screaming which just hurt my ears
M Gfngndfsh thats bcuz it is
Jake Castillo wtf he is one of the most famous actors of all time! Never knew he did audio books
Listening to this at 4:30 am off jibis wibis...
I think tales from the hood should have been on this list since it was about real story’s metaphorically.
I try to write positive and go to heaven.
Who was man reading the black cat horror book by edgar allan poe in english voice?
Count dooku is reading this!
The exact same thing happened to me.
Why am I listening to this at 4:00am??

Why do you make me suffer
It was a black cat , a black cat, a gigantic cat... Pretty good 👌

New writing?
He deserves it the poor thing never did anything wrong but he killed it for what it didn't like him after he cut its eye out
This is fun homework tho
Don't f*ck with cats.

This is so EVIL. Hopeful it is just a story.
