I think it's more the way he spoke and wrote that lends itself that way. I'd really be interested to hear his actual voice. I imagine Vincent Priceish, but not quite, and his readings are not my favorite
I haven't listened to this yet..but I will soon. I was a huge fan of reading poe 30 yrs ago as a kid. I remember this story as being one of the scariest...for me, anyway. Maybe I'm remembering it wrong but isn't this a lot like "Pet Semetary" by Stephen King?
Am I the only one who found out about this book because of Bungo stray dogs Like i loved tall tell hearts and the raven ect but never found this one until bsd
This story chilled me to the bone. I think the cat was an omen of death, a spirit. That's what I love about poe, open to interpretation 😊
excellent recording! skimming through the story again as i write an essay. i think its compelling to see the cat as a symbolic metaphor for his wife
Poe was brilliant in his darkness.
He certainly was. Thanks for listening!
What about in his light?
Funny how most people think all of his writing is best read with an English accent when Poe was a Boston boy😂
You’re absolutely right! Hope you enjoyed this one, though
@@classicaudiobookswithelliot Loved it!

It is because he used a British English, I noticed that when I read the mask of the red death.
Who would want to hear a Boston accent? 😜

I’ve never read Pet Semetary actually! But this is certainly a creepy idea for a story. Well worth listening to (in my humble opinion!).
@@classicaudiobookswithelliot nope...I was wrong. This is WAY darker than pet Semetary.
